We reported last week about Slumdog Millionaire stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto seen kissing in Israel - word came in that they are officially a couple. Now we’re getting the backstory on the relationship, including a rather bitter interview from Freida’s former fiance, Rohan Antao. Apparently, Freida and Dev became a couple rather quickly once they got thrown together, promoting the film. They were spending so much time together, and one thing led to another. Freida jettisoned her relationship with Rohan… over the phone. That’s just one reason Rohan is bitter - but Freida might have lied to him in the beginning of her realtionship with Dev.

The two were spotted getting cozy recently - even kissing - during lunch at an Israeli restaurant. In fact, Dev flew to Israel to spend time with beautiful Freida, who is on location filming the movie Miral, about the founding of an orphanage in Israel’s early days.
“They couldn’t keep their eyes or hands off of each other,” says a source. “At one point Freida laid her head on his shoulder, looking into his eyes, and they kissed.”
Before Slumdog Millionaire became an international sensation, Freida was engaged to marketing executive Rohan Antao. He blamed the breakup on his engagement on his former fiancee’s relationship with Dev.
“She ended it with me after getting close to Dev Patel,” Rohan said. “We both agreed we wanted to spend out lives together.”
Film producers had intentionally tried to keep Freida and Rohan’s relationship under wraps. He was kept in the background during promotional tours - while Freida and Dev, who played childhood sweethearts in the hit film, were out together enjoying the spotlight.
“She was always with Dev, doing press publicity. I knew there was chemistry between them, but she said she had no feelings toward him at that time,” Rohan stated.
But once Freida got close to Dev, it wasn’t long before she broke off their engagement in a telephone call, he explained.
“I hate the film. It wrecked my relationship.”
The Israeli lunch date isn’t the first time the couple sent tongues wagging about their relationship. Dev and Freida were seen holding hands in Los Angeles in January at the Sweet Lady Jane bakery, kissing while they shard a slice of Oreo cheesecake. They also spent Valentine’s Day in London together, where they stopped at an Oxford Street jewelry store.

Once the story broke that Freida was engaged (and maybe married) to Rohan, a lot of commenters pointed out that Rohan isn’t the most attractive of men. I think he probably knew how lucky he was to be Freida, but when she broke his heart, he turned into this really negative person. So did Freida cheat? Was there some discrepancies in time between when Freida started with Dev and ended with Rohan? Probably. If you were hanging out with Dev Patel, how could you not jump him? He’s so cute!

Remember Dev from the UK show Skins. I think he looks so young, that they look a little mismatched. However, I think it’s sweet that they found love, so I’m rooting for them.

Why do tongues have to “wag”? They’re two single people who are dating. It couldn’t have been that great with Rohan in the first place and although he is obviously sour grapes, it’s over, and he needs to move on. His carping won’t get him anywhere. It probably won’t last with Dev and Frieda forever, but who cares? They’re enjoying it for now and having a great time.

She handled the whole thing terribly she pretended in interviews to be single when she was ENGAGED to this man.

Dev is 19, Freida is 24. But even if the ages were 18 and 25, it still wouldn’t be wrong or illegal.
I just love them both. And she totally traded up.

They are super cute together…19 vs. 24 is not that big of a gap at all. Besides, Dev is definitely maturing into a handsome young man….he’s athletic, slim, can act soulfully, and has a killer sense of humor. With Anwar’s skills, who wouldn’t want to roll around with him?

It’s one of the worst things in the world to be left for another person- her ex might not have handled it well, but thats forgivable as he was in trauma and a young guy too. Further, if she lied about the technicalities of when one relationship ended and the other began, or even her reasons for distancing herself(she shouldve been honest out of respect & to give the ex closure) thats not cool at all - but also happens often - and i’m sure, the ex isnt upset as much over that but the part which hurts the ,ost - ‘that theres no one to blame’. He’ll be older and wiser for it in the end - realizing that there’s no point in being with s’one who’s that vulnerable to another’s affections - its good it was discovered early. As for comments on people’s appearances etc - those are non-issues and cruelly typical of gossip - they’re meaningless - attraction is subjective. ..Duh-).

Just because you play a muslim doesn’t make you one. And-weren’t you watching the movie? Guess not. Anyway-he’s had a TV series for 2 years and at 6′2″ he’s hardly a little boy. After publicity for the movie for a year,I’ll bet he’s grown up a lot. If it’s OK with his mom,it’s ok . And she seems pleased as punch.

OK, so I will buy this since the actual person is quoted rather than a “family friend” or whatever. It probably wouldn’t have lasted anyway if they had gotten married, if she could leave him so easily. So he probably is better off. I do like Freida/Dev together though.

I’ll give Freida the benefit of the doubt. She probably broke off when him early on and he didn’t want to accept it. He wants to ride the gravy train. Judging by his reaction, he’s getting paid to tell his story. I’ve read this story before and thought they were married. The jilted ex’s reaction seems to be more about she’s embarking on a huge film career and he’s not reaping the benefits of it. With Dev, at least she’s his equal. Not saying that she’s the next big thing but she’s on her way.
I like Dev and he’s going to have a long career. He has charisma, depth, and talent. He’s a cutie who will grown into a good looking man.

They were engaged but not married. She has a right to change her mind. It hurts like hell to be the dumped but he should be happy that it ended sooner rather then later.

This sounds like a rehash of the interview he gave when the story first broke about them. He claimed something was going on back then but I’m not convinced. Truth is Dev or no Dev, Freida would have finished with him anyway, it really doesn’t sound like the relationship was going great guns and she woke up one morning and decided to dump him. Time to move on dude!
Her and Dev are just adorable together. Who knows how long it’ll last but I wish the very best for them.

Seeing as her post-Slumdog career is likely to outpace Dev’s, she’ll probably be dumping him soon, too. Probably for whoever she promotes her next film with.
