Liam Hemsworth is PETA’s sexiest male vegan celebrity: good choice?

Premiere for 'Independence Day: Resurgence'

It might not be as big of a deal as being named People’s Sexiest Man Alive or anything, but Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth has been named the Sexiest Male Vegan Celebrity by animal rights organization PETA. Mind you, this is the same group that is advocating kale eating contests (for the love of God, why?), so there’s that. The new man in my life, Kevin, is an actor here in Atlanta who feels he was robbed of the title. I, of course, agree. Liam is okay, I guess. I consider him more like “blandsome” over sexy, but I doubt Jon Hamm is a vegan, so I’m not sure what size pool of celebrities PETA had to work with. Singer Jhene Aiko was named the sexiest female vegan celeb of the year by the organization. PETA made the announcement on Wednesday, tweeting, “Hot AND a friend to ALL animals! Congrats to our 2016 Sexiest Male Veg Celeb @LiamHemsworth!”

The 26-year-old actor, currently appearing on the big screen in the two hours of your life you’ll never get back, Independence Day: Resurgence, became a vegan last year. He told Men’s Fitness magazine that he was inspired by his Hunger Games co-star Woody Harrelson, who is a long-time vegan. I’m sure his significant other, Miley Cyrus, who was voted PETA’s sexiest vegan in 2015, may have also served as some inspiration for Liam to dump animal products.

Liam and Miley were spotted on a date, possibly celebrating his new title, on Wednesday night at Malibu’s Nobu location. Wait, two vegans at a sushi restaurant. What gives? So, do they just get rice nigiri? Sushi is the main reason I’ll never be on anyone’s “sexiest vegans” list. Oh, and if you ever catch me participating in a kale eating contest, just shoot me.

Vegan nigiri and makimono are a thing in chi chi sushi places. I had nigiri made with a marinated tofu skin with thinly sliced eggplant which was to die for. Asparagus and mushroom maki. Mmmmmmm.

    • BananaBoatt says:

Yummmm! There is absolutely nothing wrong with loving your body and the planet. Kale is fantastic (kale chips anyone??) and to be shot over it….hahaha

      • qwerty says:

        And, you know, the animals.

      • Clovermuncher says:

Not everyone that is Vegan does so for the animals. Many are strictly for health reasons. I personally wasn’t aware of this until I watched Forks Over Knives.

  2. Erinn says:

Pre-caffeine Erinn read this as “Liam Hemsworth is PETAs sexist male vegan celeb” and was relatively confused for a moment.

We need some animal rights groups who aren’t as hypocritical/crazy as a lot of the PETA people seem to be. I’ve donated to WWF and our local shelter any celebitchy’s have an organization to point me towards that I can look into?

    • BananaBoatt says:

WWF is notoriously corrupt. I suggest groups like Born Free Foundation (gets wild animals into sanctuaries), Animals Asia (combats the bear bile trade and dog meat festivals of Asia), Dame Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (cares for orphaned baby elephants due to ivory hunting and poaching) and Nakawe Project/Oceana.

      • Erinn says:

Thank you! I’ve donated only once through WWF – and I’m always kind of sketched out about charity foundations because God knows that there are some sketchy people out there.

I’m going to look into these – thanks so much BananaBoatt

        Thank you.

Go local- check if your local Humane Society does spay/neuter or vaccination clinics and donate to them if they do. I say check if they do the clinics because our State’s biggest one that raises the most money does literally NOTHING for animals. They rarely have more than a few animals for adoptions and have agreements with local vets to not have clinics. Meanwhile, the one 40 minutes from me neutered one of my fosters- an older great dane- for $170 and treated him very very very well even though he was terrified. Donate locally 🙂 but, do your research.

@Erin, as someone who works in conservation, WWF is actually highly respected, and they do a lot of great work. Your money that goes to them is not wasted. Conservation International is the main one of the big ones that seems to have some questionable money spending habits. Wildlife Conservation Society is good though!

      Hi, Erinn,

Check out Mercy for Animals (mercyforanimals.org)! Absolutely fantastic organization that focuses on farmed-animal welfare. Its website has a boatload of information on why it’s so great for the animals to go vegan. Lots of cool recipe links, too. I’ve volunteered for them, and they are an awesome group of people. 😊

  3. Locke Lamora says:

Well, he didn’t abuse anyone in college, so I’ll take him over Hamm, even if Hamm was vegan.
Liam doesn’t do it for me, and he’s not that great of an actor, but he seems like a nice enough person. Out of the 3 Hunger Games stars, he was the least annoying, so that’s something.

    Jhene is stunning.

  4. Sixer says:

I don’t really see veganism and sexy as intersecting sets in a Venn diagram. Each is nice, both is not required. But I suppose PETA do – so on their grounds, I will say Liam is not sexy to me and they should do better next year.

Also: HONK FOR KEVIN. I’m sure you’re a beauty, Kevin. Don’t listen to anyone who says otherwise, including PETA.

  5. lisa2 says:

He and his brother and many others are examples of people that have all the elements but something is missing. Something is just not there to make you gravitate towards them. I can’t put my finger on it but that IT is missing.

    • Erinn says:

Yup – I agree. I really don’t know what it is. It’s not like they’re bad looking, or that they’re a major pain in the butt… but I just can’t find any feelings greater than ‘meh’ when it comes to them. They seem lovely enough, but they’re not the kind of guy that I’d go to a movie to see.

    • HH says:

Chris Hemsworth does it for me when he’s in his Thor physique with the long hair. But when he’s himself, not really. Soooo…. I guess it’s not always good to be yourself. Haha.

And then Liam, well… he’s just Diet Thor. Like if studios can’t score Chris, then go with Liam.

  6. Emma - The JP Lover says:

I’m sorry, I know many here think this guy is babelicious, but I just don’t get it. (Shrugs) He looks like a goober to me and I don’t find him handsome or ‘cute’ in any way, shape, or fashion. I can’t believe people consider him better looking than his brother Chris, who to me has classic old-school Hollywood Leading Man good looks and presence on screen. But to each his or her own, I guess.

  7. Bex says:

I was reading this piece on women in film recently and the producer of The Dressmaker said that they’d had Kate Winslet and Judy Davis on board for ages, but were told they couldn’t secure funding until they got an ‘A List male star’. Enter Hemsworth- who I actually thought was rather charming in the film- but in terms of acting talent and prestige obviously Kate + Judy > Liam. He seems like a pretty decent guy but that story annoyed me.

  8. Nefer says:

By its own records PETA euthanizes over 90% of the animals it “saves” to include many healthy cats and dogs. They have supported proposals to kill all cats brought into animal control.I wish people like Liam would wake up to this.I personally was told by a PETA rep that their goal is to eliminate all domesticated animals and make our companion animals obsolete. He is so good looking I just wish he had given his time to an organization like the SPCA or a spay/neuter campaign.

    • KiddVicious says:

Yep. PETA needs to go away. I give generously to no-kill shelters in my area who are NOT affiliated with PETA. I refuse to support anything they do.

  9. Nefer says:

I want to apologize.I couldn’t get your comments to come up before I replied which teaches me a lesson yes? As an animal rescuer who is broke but happy helping animals I was glad to see comments that came up.Yes your best bet is to donate locally. The national Humane Society is led by a man who admits he hates animals and little of their funding goes to animals.Local chapters can be much better venues for your donations.Any rescue that won’t answer questions or let you see their records should be avoided. It is an unfortunate fact that many crooks are now using animals in need to scam people.

  10. What was that says:

In as much as there are problems with PETA ..they did not have shelters in the UK so I cannot speak to that ..and I feel that vegan is for many a fad I have been a veggie ..not vegan..for many years…that does include dairy and I acknowledge the hypocrisy but I try my best
Anyway the point is that Veggies in the UK and in my experience when I travelled in the USA western states were misunderstood and considered weird and Always an unhealthy looking aenimic type
I am please we are moving on and to that effect I see it as a light hearted attempt to show you do not have to eat meat to be an action hero
So I can only speak to my experience which is that as a committed veggie it is a nice thing and so what if he is not Brad Pitt..?

  11. OriginallyBlue says:

I really don’t know how people support PETA. They would rather kill perfectly healthy animals than put them up for adoption. They are better off dead than as pets according to them.

  12. Meee says:

If those shoes, in the last picture, are pleather, then they’re doing a darn good job at making them look real, instead of the weird shiny look of old.

  13. jeanpierre says:

Woody Harrelson is way sexier than him.

  14. Lbliss says:

He has no personality. Look Liam you’ve tried to be a big actor in Hollywood, it didn’t work, can you just go away now? How many chances does this guy get? It’s not working…
