Taylor Swift ‘secretly’ wrote Calvin Harris’s hit single ‘This Is What You Came For’

tay1

Taylor Swift posted this photo ^^ to her social media at the start of this year’s Coachella festival. Note her jacket – that’s the same image being used on the single cover for Calvin Harris’s “This Is What You Came For.” Taylor did not play Coachella, but Calvin Harris did and Tay came out to support her then-boyfriend. At Coachella, Calvin performed his latest single live for the first time, with some help from special guest Rihanna. They performed “This is What You Came For,” a single released in April and still making the charts as we speak. It’s a catchy song and Rihanna’s vocals are pretty good on it. You may hate me for saying this, but I’ve always like the combination of Calvin Harris + Rihanna. (I also like CH + Florence Welch.) Here’s the video for “This Is What You Came For.”

There’s drama about the song though. I first heard this conspiracy theory weeks ago, and I wondered if we were going to hear more of it. Weeks ago, Swiftloonies were abuzz with the theory that Taylor had written or co-written “This is What You Came For,” and because Calvin didn’t want Taylor’s name all over his song, Taylor used the nom de plume/alias Nils Sjöberg. Some Swiftloonies even claimed that they can hear Taylor’s faint vocals on the song. Well, guess what? The conspiracy theory is true, at least according to TMZ.

Taylor Swift really is the creative brains behind Calvin Harris’ monster hit “This is What You Came For,” and their relationship fell apart because he disrespected her when the song was released … this according to sources connected with Taylor.

It’s a fascinating story. We’ve learned an early fan rumor about the song is true, but to a deeper extent than anyone suspected. During their relationship, Taylor wrote the song, sat down at a piano and did a demo into her iPhone. She sent it to Calvin, who loved it. They both went into a studio and did a full demo with Taylor on vocals and Calvin doing the beat. They both knew the song would be a hit, but Taylor wrote it for Calvin and both agreed it was a bad idea to let the world know they collaborated as a couple … it would overshadow the song. So Taylor, who kept the publishing rights, used the pseudonym, Nils Sjoberg on the credits. Fast forward to April 29th. Calvin released the song with Rihanna and it became an instant hit. It’s been at #1 or #2 on the Dance/Electronic chart for 9 weeks, and is #5 on the Billboard 100.

The problem in the relationship came the day the song was released. Calvin appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show and Ryan asked, “Will you do a collaboration with your girlfriend?” Calvin responded, “You know we haven’t even spoken about it. I can’t see it happening though.”

We’re told Taylor was hurt and felt Calvin took it too far. It was a quick downward spiral from that point. One source called it “the breaking point in the relationship.” The Met Gala was several days later, when Taylor danced with Tom Hiddleston.

BTW … Taylor has the right to prohibit Calvin from performing the song, but she hasn’t and doesn’t plan to exercise that right. Ironically, Calvin once wrote a song with then-GF Rita Ora and when they broke up he yanked her right to perform it.

As for why the squad is talking now … we’re told they’re sick of Calvin trashing Taylor and feel he should be thanking her for quietly giving him a smash hit. We reached out to Taylor’s rep. So far no word back.

[From TMZ]

It wouldn’t surprise me if Taylor wrote the bulk of the song and Calvin got “co-writer” credit because he changed a few lyrics and added that same old beat that he uses in half of his songs. It also wouldn’t surprise me to learn that Taylor probably did want credit for the song and she might have even wanted her vocals on the single, but Calvin talked her out of it. As for Calvin’s disrespectful interview… yeah, he did take it too far and I wouldn’t blame Taylor for being hurt by that at all. But as we’ve seen a lot over the past month, Taylor and Calvin were perfectly matched in petty dramatics. I can’t wait to see what Calvin says about this.

Update: Taylor’s rep has now confirmed the story to People Magazine. Taylor wrote this song.

Update #2: And now Calvin Harris is confirming, plus he’s DRAGGING Taylor. It’s amazing. Go here to see his Twitter.

This is messiness is all too delicious.

    • Birdix says:

Nils Sjöberg, a former Swedish Olympic gymnast, must be really confused. Or pissed, if he’s truly a songwriter.

    • cyn says:

Has anyone mentioned that Calvin has taken to Twitter to defend himself and it’s awesome?

      • holly hobby says:

Oh yeah he’s the first of all those exes who actually fought back. Love the Katy Perry references. This is going to be the best break up ever!
        hhaha

      • Nancy says:

Oh yeah! She probably had the rest of them sign confidentiality agreements. I love the way he is defending himself and throwing a pot of tea at her. Where there’s smoke, there is generally fire…..Katy’s Regina George comment makes perfect sense.

      • twilly says:

Twitter is exploding with comments about this mess.

      • cyn says:

I really hope that we have a thread tomorrow about Calvin’s twitter rant. They are going in on Taylor. #TaylorSwiftis over party is trending.

    • Deedee says:

This Is What We Came For.

      • CityGirl says:

        Snort

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

Yup. It’s funny how much I have liked this single, because now that I know its origins I hear Taylor all over it. She does write catchy songs, but Rihanna breathes life and earthiness into it that Tay-Tay just lacks, frankly. I love Rihanna’s voice and her style. The video is just okay — not as good as lots of other Rihanna videos I’ve seen — but I think the production of the track itself is brilliant.

Not any particular Calvin fan, but I do love that he’s not taking her habitual trashing of ex-boyfriends lying down. Why should he?!

      • ronaldinhio says:

I was going to write exactly this

      • Bishg says:

You know what? If you think about it, Calvin might be one of the few, if not the only one, among Taylor’s exes, that has nothing to lose from fighting back Taylor’s “Regina George” ways. Both because he’s in a similar position of power (he might not be as famous or rich as Taylor, but he is an incredibly successful producer with a number of hits under his belt) and because he was not under the same scrutiny as his predecessors. He is not a closeted case (ahem, Harry), a shady character (John Meyer) / underage at the time of the relationship (Conor), nor was he explicitly going after publicity (all of them?).
For what it’s worth, I think Jake Gyllenhaal and Harry Style were the only two obviously fake relationships. Calvin and Taylor might have happened for mutual benefit, but I do believe the relationship was somewhat sincere. Hence, the scorned, vengeful Calvin we’ve been enjoying so much. He did pretty much the same when he and Rita Ora broke up. Yes, he’s been whining, yes, he sounds immature, but at the same time, he’s not sitting back, and I love him for that!

  2. AlleyCat says:

I really don’t find this true. I had heard this rumor first straight from the mouths of Taylor fans who believe she invented music. Not everything TMZ says it’s true, they usually piggyback of a rumor. I also cannot imagine Taylor not letting the world know that she wasn’t part of a hit song. Calvin might be a douche, but he’s capable of writing catchy songs himself.

  3. ell says:

the more i know about him the more he comes across as a twat. i hope this is true and taylor never stops him from playing the song, so he remains the only petty sod doing that (and no the fact rita ora cheated on him was so NOT a reason to be unprofessional).

    • Sophie says:

      He’s an idiot.

    • Jwoolman says:

I wonder if he’s especially ticked because the song she wrote was such a hit even though her name wasn’t on it? Might have hit him in the old male ego. He really is going overboard on the Taylor bashing. Has she even mini-bashed him? Or is he into pre-emptive strikes? Not really getting this tempest in a teapot, seems so junior high.

  4. grabbyhands says:

I feel like I’m missing something-how was she hurt about him telling Ryan Seacrest that that he couldn’t see them collaborating if they’d already agreed that it was a good idea to not let people know that they’d collaborated on the single because it might overshadow the release (They both knew the song would be a hit, but Taylor wrote it for Calvin and both agreed it was a bad idea to let the world know they collaborated as a couple … it would overshadow the song.). LIke, wasn’t it a continuation of the story they’d already made up?

I mean, he is as petty and childish as she is, but it sounds like another shot fired in their teenage level PR war.

    • Crox says:

The way he answered the question sounded like she’s not good enough for him, while in reality he had used her work (if we are to believe this piece). He could have said something like “one never knows”.

      • Adele Dazeem says:

I think he always thought he had the upper hand in the relationship and was “too cool” for her. She’s since schooled him a bit and I love it.
Yes I’m kinda on the Swift train. (Ducks for cover)

      • Andrea says:

I agree with you. Wether you like her or not there is no question that she is very talented. His answer in the Ryan Seacrest show sounded despective, he could have answered the question a lot better!!

      • K.C. says:

Ah. I didn’t hear that interview, but considering it has now been revealed that she really DID write the song, it wasn’t very nice of him to sound condescending in his answer.

      • Deedee says:

First he said she wasn’t his type and then he implies that he wouldn’t collaborate with her when both were untrue. He’s an asshole and she’s way better off without him.

      • Net says:

        @Adele YES THIS.

      • Rebecca says:

I haven’t heard the interview. However, I feel like if you tell a man something, he is going to take you at your word. If she told him she wanted it kept secret, she can’t really blame him for keeping it a secret. How was he supposed to answer that question? Perhaps that is something they should have talked about before they did interviews about the song.

If you want a man to do something you have to tell him exactly what you want. I have been married for 23 years and this is one of the ways you stay married. You don’t expect him to guess. I think this is what men mean when they say women expect them to read their minds.

    • Carol says:

You make a very good point. If they both agreed not to let the public know they collaborated, it makes sense that Calvin felt free to deny working with Taylor to Ryan.

      • Crox says:

But he didn’t deny working with her. He denied that he will ever work with her in the future. (Which could be a truthful answer, but I can see why she would be hurt by his remark.)

      • Carol says:

@Crox hmmm. You make a good point too. I guess I can see how Taylor would be hurt by his comment referring to future collaborations.

      • Ursaline says:

I have to agree with Crox.

It’s not that CH kept a previously agreed-upon arrangement by omitting her contribution in the interview with Ryan Seacrest. It’s the disrespectfully condescending, bitchy attitude that he presents about her not being good enough for him in the past, present and future that makes him the asshole.

She was fully justified at that point to dump him and find someone who is delighted to be in her presence and then rub it in his face all over the media. Vindictive maybe, but she could have written another song about what a piece of crap he was, and probably make a pile of money doing so.

Instead, she moved on and is having a great time jetting all over the world with a man who will wear an “I <3 TS" tshirt in public with a straight face. I think that she's a famewhore but it's an awesome breakup move nonetheless.

    • MorningCoffee says:

I think it was the way he said it, not what he said. Dissing the whole concept.

    • Santia says:

I think it was the dismissive tone he used, even knowing that he had already collaborated with her. I don’t think she’d have been upset if he said “you never know. That girl has the golden touch, so I wouldn’t rule it out.” That’s giving her props while denying.

      • Rebeca says:

I just watched it. To me, he looks nervous. It’s as if he is thinking, “What can I say here so that she won’t be mad at me.” I see a nervous guy, not an arrogant condescending guy.

  5. Elisa the I. says:

If this is true, it’s epic, considering his history with Rita Ora! 🙂

  6. Betti says:

Am not a Calvin Harris fan – he’s a one trick/beat douche pony but i do like his colabs with Rihanna. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor did write this, the lyrics sound like something she would write also he’s not a great lyricist.

  7. Crox says:

Aww, Rihanna is singing a Taylor Swift song.

In all seriousness, tho, if Swift’s Nils Sjöberg, does that mean she gets royalties for the song?

But I sincerely doubt you can hear her faint vocals on the track … If Harris didn’t want her to be associated with the song, he wouldn’t keep the vocals in, and no way they would remain by accident, these people are professionals at recording and mastering.

    • Talie says:

Yeah, she makes major bank being the writer.

    • Rachel says:

If Taylor is Nils Sjöberg, it explains why she helped promote the song on her IG and Twitter when Calvin never seemed bothered about promoting her work. She had an invested interest in the song doing well beyond being proud of her boyfriend.

      • Missy says:

You’re right. She even purchased the song and posted it on IG https://www.instagram.com/p/BFnEkqPDvO_/. I thought it was weird but now it makes sense

      • K.C. says:

Very interesting point. I don’t follow her that closely on social media, but it’s curious that she promoted him heavily when he didn’t do the same for her music. Makes one think perhaps she had her own reasons for wanting it to do well. Or she was just being a supportive girlfriend. But judging by the photo in this article, she was going pretty hard promoting it.

      • Crox says:

Did she ever promote his other songs or was it just this one?

      • Rachel says:

        @Crox

I think she posted something from ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ because Gigi Hadid was in the video for it? But that was one screenshot from the video, whereas for ‘This Is What You Came For’ Taylor was posting her buying the song on iTunes, her in a jacket with the cover art, clips of her dancing to it at Coachella, etc. There was even a link to buy the single on her website.

      • Bridget says:

Those would have been placeholder vocals in a demo. That’s different than what’s actually used.

  8. Missy says:

I hope to God that Rita Ora makes a snide comment about the situation. I hate that Taylor gave Calvin a smash hit and he took all the accolades. What a sh*tty person.

I’ve never said this before about Taylor, but she deserves better than him. She needs someone that’ll make her better, not feed into her pettiness and insecurities.

    • K.C. says:

This situation aside, what I’ve seen of Harris doesn’t impress me much. They were an odd pairing.

    • Missy says:

This is my (perhaps fan-fictiony) take on their relationship. Calvin Harris needed an ego boost and popularity boost after the whole Rita Ora debacle. She cheated on him, which was humiliating, and he responded pettily by pulling all their songs together. It wasn’t a good look for him.

Enter Taylor Swift, America’s sweetheart. They “dated” even though, in his mind, he was too cool, too edgy, and so much better than her. You can tell this affected Taylor, bc she changed her whole look for him. Tried to dress sexier, went platinum blonde, got alleged new boobs. They wrote a great song together, but Calvin didn’t want to be linked to Swifty musically, so he made her use a pseudonym and replaced her with edgy cool-girl Rihanna. Ouch.

Calvin eventually loses interest, and lays the groundwork for his “cool guy” breakup by saying she’s clingy and more into the relationship than he is, too Hollywood, etc. He got what he wanted out of Taylor – popularity, a hit single, his ego back – and was done with her.

That’s why I love that Taylor is winning post-breakup, even though I’m not a Taylor fan. He tried to play her and it blew up in his face. Yes, she is being extra with Tiddles, but I understand why and can’t fault her for it.

      • claire says:

Good write-up. That’s how I see it too.

      • Tulip Garden says:

Never thought I’d say it but Taylor has earned a Prince quote: ” I can’t be played. A person trying to play me, plays themselves.”
        Oh, Calvin,Hahahhhhahahahahahahaha!
I might be a Taylor fan now. You know she’s all about the business and will never, ever, ever pull this song😋

      • Lockheed_m says:

Perfectly written (fan-fiction or not!). I’m not a Swifty fan BUT I’m even less of a Calvin H. fan – he’s such a little girl.

I hope she doesn’t answer him on Twitter – I’m not really checking but last I saw he seemed to be having a big old song of a meltdown with himself (backing vocals Ft. Katy Perry, because …reasons).

Lol, I don’t like anyone in this sordid high school drama – Ora, Calvin, Taylor or Katy (Rihanna’s not really involved, she’s back at the club house chillin’). I used to be Tom H. fan but he’s tainted now too …

  9. Nicole says:

Except I don’t believe this. Show me receipts NOT from Team Taylor and I’ll look again. CH has written countless songs without her and I don’t see her lyrics working for his sound.

But from a gossip standpoint this is fun. If Taylor was SO over CH (like her stans have been saying) why is she bringing this up now? Isn’t she supposed to be IN LOVE with Tom? Obviously this story is a slant because it’s now widely accepted that she cheated on him.

Try again people. Can’t wait for the next shot from Team Harris

    • ell says:

come on, the thing with TH is obviously done to lord it over calvin harris, he had his pr saying he dumped her because she wanted commitment and he didn’t, and she’s getting back at him. that said, it doesn’t meant this story isn’t true.

      • mee says:

it all makes sense now. the love tour w/TH is actually the revenge tour at CH. i get why she’s pissed at CH though and it sounds like he was competitive or didn’t respect her talent during the interview. anyway carry on kids and go live your lives, you’re both wildly successful – no need to waste time on this pettiness.

    • lilacflowers says:

Songwriting credits are big business and can involve a great deal of money. It has nothing to do with whether she’s with Eppie Calvin Nuke Laloush Harris or anybody else. This is business.

      • joanne says:

i really your comments, lilacflowers, also your name. i agree with you, Taylor is first and foremost a business person. that’s where she would draw the line.

      • Dara says:

If I’ve learned anything about Taylor in recent weeks, it’s that you really don’t want to f*ck with her when it comes to business. The Pretty Pop Princess and her team will tear your heart out, feed it to her cats and then sue you for damages when kitty comes down with a case of indigestion.

      • Chicken says:

Yes! Ebby Calvin Nuke Laloush! I would start calling Calvin this exclusively, but I don’t want to disrespect Tim Robbins.

      • Mira says:

        @lilacflowers
If she retained the publishing rights as this story says this isn’t about not getting credit in a business sense. If she has the publishing rights she is getting paid.
Also using a pseudonyms is fairly common check this article about all the famous musicians who have used pseudonyms
        http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop/7438176/taylor-swift-musician-pseudonyms-nils-sjoberg
So this isn’t really about her being hard done by in any way. To me it just looks like a personal thing between them.

      • lilacflowers says:

@Mira, the music sounds like hers. That is her voice on the track. Rumors about it have been flying around since it was released. Her representatives were asked and they answered honestly. Eppie Calvin dumped her. She owes him nothing. Whatever their personal agreements were, they ended when he dumped her. That”s how breakups work. She has every right to claim her work. I don’t like her but in this particular situation, she has done absolutely nothing wrong and he is being a total jerk and extremely unprofessional. That list you are posting is of people who despite using pseudonyms claimed their work.

  10. nicole says:

I can imagine this scenario – that song is catchy. I have never heard another Calvin Harris project that is that catchy and despite all Taylor’s faults she knows how to write a catchy song.

    • Laura says:

I’m sorry, but that’s rather ignorant to say… All of Calvin’s more recent songs since his album ’18 Months’ have a very similar sound, and many have been big hits. The music for ‘This is What You Came for’ definitely sounds more like Calvin than Taylor.

I think less people are aware of Calvin musically and so are jumping ship to support Taylor when in fact, this song sounds nothing like her at all. Lyrics, maybe but that’s about it.

  11. tomato says:

Just listened to the song for the first time. It absolutely sounds like the songs that Taylor Swift writes and sings. Down to the vocal yodeling. I believe she wrote it, and from what I hear of Calvin he doesn’t seem like a very nice guy. Good for her walking away. Hope she and Tom continue to be good to each other.

    • Original T.C. says:

First time I heard the song I assumed it was a Swifty song. Sounds exactly like her other songs. Oh-oh-oh is CLASSIC Taylor. Every time I hear it I still think it’s Swifty singing. love her passive-aggressive manner of her source dishing to TMZ while she acts like she doesn’t want credit.

      So #TeamPettyTaylor

    • Scotchy says:

When I first heard it , I also thought Taylor Swift wrote the lyrics because it sounded so twee and like it was cut from the pages of a 16 year olds journal.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I also just listened to it. God, it’s shit. Taylor’s songs are usually better, and I’m not a fan of her music.

  12. Nebby says:

Not seeing how this is disrespectful at all if they agreed not to announce the collab earlier. Besides that I just don’t think it’s true.

  13. Alex says:

i knew Taylor’s rebound fling wouldn’t be enough for her not to be petty. Never change Taylor.
Also Swifties are some of the craziest fans I’ve ever seen. They are just like her…teen drama queens

    • Erinn says:

So – he’s allowed to go and talk about her whenever or however he wants… but only Taylor is petty?

Nah, sorry. Last time he broke up with a celeb he blocked her from using the songs they worked together on… Taylor’s not doing that, so not sure what about this is making her look petty.

      • Livvers says:

I feel compelled to push back against the idea that a woman claiming credit for her OWN WORK is petty. Yes, I will leave room to allow that women can claim credit in ways that are less politic/less generous to coworkers, but all Taylor seems to have done is use the same backchannel outlet her former SO & coworker has used to needle her in order to correct the record.

*assuming the songwriting credit story is true; I’d make the same argument for any other similar case

      • Alex says:

Except she only wants credit post breakup. She was fine with no credit before (hence the alias) so yes petty.

      • Livvers says:

@ Alex In my opinion, a woman asking to be credited for excelling at what she does is not “petty” when it is one of the most important things in her life, no matter what her choice of timing. Hypothetically speaking, if I and a coworker worked on a project together, and for certain reasons I agreed to leave my name off the work (but still maintain legal rights to it), and after a personal falling out I heard the coworker was badmouthing me, calling me needy, and a cheat, and a liar, all the while making bank off my ideas, then yes, maybe I could write it off as a loss and gracefully allow this to continue (i.e., what women are expected to do), or I could use the same gossip channels to correct the record and get credit for my work. If I am a powerful successful woman, I will almost certainly go with option #2.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Alex, maybe the pseudonym because she wanted to see if the song did well on its own with out the “couple project” aspect hanging over it. Never forget: Gigli!

      • claire says:

I don’t know why any woman would want him after how he treated Rita. He showed her colors back then, and it seemed like he had a terrible reputation with women. I was absolutely surprised that Taylor got with him – now she’s seeing who he always has been and known to be. Misogynist, controlling, petty a-hole.

      • claire says:

It’s super surprising to me that people wouldn’t cheer her on for standing up for herself. He’s been trashing her constantly, he put out stories to basically push agenda he was too cool for her and condescendingly put her down, that he would never work with her. All the while, she wrote him a hit song.

Biases aside, if it was someone else, wouldn’t most be cheering that woman on for getting her credit?

    • Chelsea says:

Ikr? They are the craziest fandom apart from the 1D fandom. They are downright scary.

    • daisie-b says:

Quite possibly she and Tom met when he was in Nashville or Australia in the recent past but both were so tied up with work they couldn’t act on their mutual attraction. Once they had time they could have realized there was something worth exploring further. I think she wrote the song as a parting gift with the proviso that he keep things dignified plus he would make the announcement. When he saw what a big deal the new relationship was, he couldn’t keep his end of the bargain and vented. From the start, maybe a song was what he came for.

  14. Lbliss says:

Does she have a personal photographer on her payroll just for social media? Is that the new norm for celebs now? Ugh. Weak.

  15. TyrantDestroyed says:

It’s funny because everytime I hear the song I couldn’t stop thinking that the woman the song refers would be somebody like Taylor Swift or at least the image she has of herself. So I would believe this rumor is somehow true and she wrote a song for themselves as a couple.

  16. K.C. says:

This is such a juicy story, and I could believe she wrote the song. But hasn’t he been writing for years? I don’t know anything about his career, but I’m pretty sure he has been very successful, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he just wrote another hit and people are trying to stir up more drama.

That said…it fits the timeline we’ve constructed on here beautifully.

    • Mira says:

He won’t the Ivor Novello award for songwriter ( prestigious UK songwriting award) of the year a few years back. He is definitely a successfull songwriter and a prolific one at that.

  17. Bxhal says:

I KNEW the song was Taylors the very first time i heard it because:
    1. Lightning, strikes everytime you move – is a lyric i can only associate with Tay as she sees love in technicolor (cue: sparks fly whenever you smile and suchlike songs). That just screamt out to me coz thats the kind of Taylor writing im used to and love.
    2. Rihrihs vocals on that jam are just waaaay too high n thin. She is trying too hard to sing at Tays level and actually manages it.
    3. This is the first Calvin Harris jam i have ever liked so this was definitely not his song.
    4. Its got a damn catchy tune and thats Tays and Drakes corner.
I loved both Calvin and Tay but i love Tay more and happy with whoever she ends up with. I do feel all these guys arent at her level and wish shed date a star bigger than her…i dunno, someone older and much more famous.

    • Llamas says:

Um, everything you said sounds downright conspiracy theorist. Kind of like Taylor is queen and because she is queen she obviously does everything and everyone wants to be her and everybody is below her. I don’t think Rihanna gives a hoot about Taylor swift and I don’t think Riri would ever try to emulate Taylor Swift. Plus Taylor can’t even sing that high (belt) without sounding like her vocal chords are going to burst. It just sounds like you are lapping up her koolaid a ton.

      • daisie-b says:

Everyone in the music industry gives a hoot about Taylor Swift. Whether they are fans or foes everyone respects her ability to navigate the system and reap the tremendous success that she does over and over.

    • Ennie says:

Ha! just when like when I found myself humming at a Justin Bieber tune recently, I was horrified! then I discovered that it was an Ed Sheeran song. I love his music, the lyrics are OKis in his songs, but the music, same as Passenger’s , I like it.
I was also surprised with “This is what you came for”, in my opinion, it could very well be a TS song.

  18. Crox says:

I don’t like this song, TBH, but that’s just me.

And I hate what they did to Rihanna’s voice. Why use so much artificial sound over it? She is a talented singer and her actual voice sounds much better than this mess. Autotune used for artistic effect is still autotune.

  19. Ellie says:

I believe this. “We go fast with the games we play” and several other lines sound like Blank Space pt 2. And Taylor posted not only the photo above, but three photos of her and her friends (not Calvin) at Coachella with lyrics from the song underneath it. Then when it reached the top of the charts she posted about that. That’s five posts about the song, almost as many times as she posted photos of Calvin himself. Maybe she couldn’t help taking a little credit for it and bragging about its success a bit. And those 5 Instagrams were also the only CH-related ones she didn’t remove after they split.

But I gotta say I like the song a lot for a Calvin Harris song. Maybe that is because she wrote the lyrics (and he’s not trying to sing on this one).

  20. Rapunzel says:

    Here’s what I think:

I think Taylor agreed not to take public credit for writing Calvin’s song, in case if failed, so as not to be attached publicly to a flop. Once it became a hit, she hoped Calvin would spill the beans and associate her with a hit. He didn’t and she got mad. Especially since he not only straight up didn’t give her credit, but also acted like he’d never need/ want her. Which of course is BS given she’d just wrote him a hit.

    Bad moves from both parties.

    • Christin says:

I assume they had some type of copyright or other written agreement naming her (real name / publishing company) for splitting the royalties, though?

Hopefully having a relationship didn’t muddy those waters. To give an example, there are at least three different versions of who really wrote Ring of Fire, 50 years ago (a song about Johnny and June’s relationship).

    • Livvers says:

It could be less about avoiding her name being attached to a flop (since both her and Cliffy Clavin are at the top of their field, I’m sure they were pretty self-assured they could write a hit), and more about the effect that having a pop princess’s name being attached to a different genre could affect the saleability of the song.

      • Rapunzel says:

Livvers- that’s possible too, and actually works better to explain why she got mad at him not giving her credit. If she kept her name off to avoid affecting sales, she might have expected him to pony up credit once it was a hit and could not be affected by having her name attached.

      • Erinn says:

I think that’s what it is, Livvers. I think she probably delved into something different than her normal stuff, and didn’t want the automatic name association – good or bad. A clean slate kind of thing. There’s at least a small amount of musicians who’ve done that sort of thing.

  21. Mira says:

This story originally comes from Taylors fans fan fiction, so its not entirely believable.
I don’t like his music but hes a pretty prolific songwriter and there are several other examples of artists he has worked with where he clearly said they wrote the song. Like his most recent hit How deep is your love. He has said in interview they sent him the song and he just tweaked it a bit here and there. Same with the hit he and John Newman had. He actually won the Ivor Novello award as songwriter of the year in the UK a few years ago, theres no doubt he writes his own music. However shitty it might be
Also i don’t buy that someone who has her shit in order like Taylor would allow this to happen.

  22. Crumpet says:

I could only manage to listen to a minute or so of the song, but honestly, I thought it was Taylor singing it sounds so much like something she would write.

Having said that, I have no idea if any of this is true. But if there is one thing Taylor knows how to do, it’s write a catchy tune and she’s a good lyricist as well. So I wouldn’t be surprised. And all Calvin’s shots fired since the breakup are because deep down in his creepy little soul, he knows he was wrong. And here he has this hit song and Tay is taking the high road. That chafes the manly soul (manly said tongue in cheek).

  23. Donna Martin says:

Lyrically this sounds Taylor swift 100%

    • lautie says:

      +1
“Some Swiftloonies even claimed that they can hear Taylor’s faint vocals on the song”………….and this also is so true after listening to the song, “the oouh ouuh ouuh part”

    • Frexit says:

      It’s awful so yeah.

  24. Jade says:

I’ll give her credit for keeping the publishing rights, if this is true. At least not being too crazy in love.

  25. Div says:

John Newman originally tagged Taylor in a tweet about the song when it first came out & apparently there is a Nils S but he claims he didn’t write the song….plus it lyrically sounds a lot like a Taylor Swift song with a more adult slant. Basically, I totally believe this….especially after the cr*p he pulled with Rita Ora. Taylor is savvy when it comes to business and song writing and I bet it made her angry that he denied it after it became a hit….because if he confirmed it it would show her branching out a bit as an artist by penning this hit. Also, the interview kind of gives the vibe that Harris thinks he is too cool for Taylor’s music….and if he conned her into writing under a pseudonym and then denied her involvement while reaping the very public benefits…then her anger is justified.

I do think Taylor is petty but I think Harris is even worse for trying to smear her in the tabs (TMZ doesn’t normally run these sort of stories and most have been from his side) and trying to come off as an angel in comparison when he did some shady sh*t too. Taylor may play the victim in her songs but I can’t recall her ever viciously and consistently trying to destroy the reps of her exs to the tabs a la Calvin. There’s just a level of vitriol from Harris that Swift has never come close to in her songs or in the tabs.

    • Llamas says:

But Taylor smears anyone and everyone who might look at her wrong. Everyone is acting like he is so childish and he’s the only childish one and she’s soo mature but let’s be honest here: she is a victim player that will go to any lengths to be a victim in the press. Don’t forget that just to bash Calvin in some weird man hating business

      • Erinn says:

Have you been here long? Because if you go through ANY TS post, the majority of people posting are talking about how horrible she is, how childish she is, how twisted she is… it goes on and on.

Accepting the possibility that she isn’t the only ‘petty’ person in this relationship isn’t worshiping her or elevating her. It’s looking at this situation without a bias – but people are getting crapped on for even suggesting she might not be some kind of evil-doer – being ‘fans’ or that they’re ‘buying her crap’ or whatever.

  26. Guest says:

What a bull. Guess the PR machine is rolling now as Taylor had to eat shit because of the cheating story. First the hospital visit, now this one. Manipulating witchy…..no clue how this girl has become so famous and loved.

  27. Chelsea says:

Nils Sjoberg is Marcus nils sjoberg a member of Swedish EDM act Wintergatan. He is credited as cowriter with Calvin.
I hope Taylor’s team didn’t plant this story it’s incredibly disrespectful to an up and coming musician, downright mean.

    • Div says:

He denied being the co-writer though

      • Chelsea says:

As far as I know that was something that was claimed by Taylor’s fans. Calvin is apparently friends with Sjoberg of wintergatan, why would Taylor use Calvin friends name as an alias? The guy is already registered as a songwriter. By using the same name she would effectively be giving him the rights to her song. That doesn’t make sense. If she was going to use an alias she wouldn’t use the name of an already existing songwriter.

    • Div says:

      @Chelsea
All I know is that I read on a music blog that he denied it a few days ago (this story has been around for the past week). Plus, I doubt having the same name (well, his first name is Marcus anyway) would be an issue ….I’m sure receipts will come out one way or the other.

      • Chelsea says:

That guy that denied it is not the guy that is in that band, it’s some random guy with the same name.

See that Taylor’s rep apparently confirmed it. Can’t wait to see what Calvin says. Drama! 😂

  28. Ecl0891 says:

Ok, now this break up makes sense. Taylor was head over heels for him and he had lost interest. Remember his face when she publicly thanked him at that awards show? He looked soo uncomfortable. Taylor justifiably went hard on him about that interview, he decided to finally pull the plug (since he made it so clear that he dumped her) and here we are.

Also, I generally admire Taylor Swift but do not fall in theswiftloonie category by any means. The first time I heard that song, my immediate thought was, “Oh, Taylor Swift wrote that.” Had never heard the theory from her fan base. So just saying…

Hope she and Tom work out, he seems like he would not be threatened by her success.

  29. HeyThere! says:

I love this song!!! Can’t wait to hear CH response! If he stays silent….it will speak volumes to the rumor being true!!!

  30. DuckGoose says:

If this is true, their breakup / Tiddles makes waaay more sense to me. They didn’t have some sad sack emotional breakup. Calvin disrespected her — as a professional. That made her PISSED. OFF. That is why she never looked back.

    • Llamas says:

But if they originally (that’s a big if because this whole collaboration is a rumor) agreed that she would not have her contribution be public then she cannot get mad when it becomes a hit and he says nothing about her. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. They made an agreement and it’s not disrespectful or petty to follow through with that agreement. I think it’s more petty to leave someone because they honored an original agreement and you decided randomly to change your mind much later. That’s not cool imho.

      • Crox says:

But he didn’t honour any agreement. He wasn’t asked if they’ve ever worked together (in which case saying no would be like they agreed). He said he doesn’t think they’ll work together in the future, which has nothing to do with the agreement. It also sounds like he doesn’t think much of her as a musician. Which I can believe would hurt her, especially if she actually did write a hit song for him.

      • wrinkledpeas says:

I swear, the mental gymnastics people will go through just to make Taylor out to be in the wrong in every situation.

      • Colete says:

Maybe he didn’t want to work with her again. Many people decide after working with a mate,it’s not something they want to do again.

      • Crox says:

That’s possible, but that doesn’t negate the fact that he said it like she’s not good enough for him. Right after she helped him create a hit song.

If he really thought that, I can imagine she’d be hurt. If he didn’t really think that, just said so, I can imagine she’d be hurt.

What’s funny to me is that I think the song is really really bad. So much drama over *that*?

  31. me says:

Wait, so she didn’t want people to know they worked together on a song so she used a fake name…but when Calvin was asked if he’d ever do a song with Taylor he basically said “no” which is what she wanted. Why would that make her mad? I don’t get it. There has to be a lot more to this story.

    • Hannah says:

There’s definetly more to it. She didn’t want people to know. Why else would she not have her name to it?

    • Cricket says:

totally agree.. especially since the one thing that is not disputed is Taylor’s business sense and her excellent business skills. Do we honestly believe she was so naive and taken advantage of evil Calvin Harris by not crediting her for writing the lyrics to his new hit? I don’t believe this for a second. She agreed and signed the contract, etc.. using an alias for whatever motive.

I just don’t get if she is so f’ing happy down under with Loki, why is she doing this now? Maybe things aren’t so great with Mr. Etonian after all?

      • Crox says:

Because Calvin is accusing her of cheating. She’s firing back. They both want the last say. We’re probably going to get more dirty laundry daily now. How late in the mess do sex routines come up?

  32. Michelle says:

I never comment, but I was so enthralled when I read this because I didn’t know who made the song this whole time, but literally every single time it comes on the radio I think it’s Taylor Swift!!! Then I hear the Rihanna voice and I’m confused. It makes so much sense now!

  33. Caitiecait says:

Her rep confirmed to People that TS wrote the song, this whole Taylor-CalvinAdam-Tom is the gift that keeps on giving.

  34. DuckGoose says:

Her rep confirmed it to People! This is how you serve up revenge… cold. Calvin you let your ego get in the way, and got played. And I’m not even a Taylor Swift fan, but how could say he “can’t see it happening”… what an ego. He looks like a twit now.

    • Hannah says:

He does. But so does Huddleston. He wrecked his credibility because A pop star came calling. All this OTT romance was just her way to get revenge on her ex. Hahaha these people are hilarious!

    • PrincessMe says:

OK, I’m starting to love this. Your move, Calvin. Bwahahahahaha

    • claire says:

When it’ s a guy, they’re smart and conniving. When it’s a woman, she’s scheming and a witch. Don’t fall for it people.

  35. MI6 says:

Ah HA. That explains the rebound lightning round.
CH and TS back together by December. I’m calling it now. They deserve each other.

  36. Hannah says:

Lol Taylor’s rep says it’s true This explain why Taylor had this crazy aggressive PR campaign with Huddleston. That dude is nothing but a pawn in the game between Tay Tay and Harris!

    • MI6 says:

      @ Hannah: This.
Epic meltdown on Twitter right now. This guy is not going quietly
      #TeamCalvin
      #Notsorry

      • Cricket says:

With you… Harris says on his twitter (I can’t believe I actually read it) … here it is:

“And she sings on a little bit of it too (upside down smiley face) Amazing lyric writer and she smashed it as usual”

“I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym”

“Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though”

“I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do”

“I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”

“Please focus on the positive aspects of YOUR life because you’ve earned a great one”

“God bless everyone have a beautiful day”

      • Dara says:

I just want to say that I am irrationally excited that Calvin’s tweets seem to support my theory that this has become Taylor’s ‘Summer of Revenge’, complete with fairy-tale romance that she can publicly wave in her ex’s face. Now I’m wondering if Hiddles knew that going in and signed on anyway.

p.s. I think EbbyCalvinNukeLaloosh is a childish knob, but that doesn’t make him wrong about his ex-girlfriend’s motivations. If anyone would know her MO, I should hope it would be the guy she was in a relationship with for over a year.

      • MI6 says:

        @Dara: right there with you.
…Just a tad worried about poor Hiddles. I don’t think he signed up for this.
        *ducks*

      • bonzo says:

Dara, I doubt he was out of the loop, with the six figures PR team he has advising him. He saw the opportunity and jumped on it and since Tom isn’t a petty, malicious guy (as far as we know), I wouldn’t expect her to have a messy breakup with him. It’ll be one of those sad, growing apart kind of scenarios rather than being wronged.

I too think Calvin is being petty, but I like the fact that he’s calling her out & spilling tea. They seem better suited than her and Tom in their childishness, that’s for sure.

And lets be realistic… she’s laughing all the way to the bank if she’s the songwriter of a #1 hit.

  37. Fa says:

They agreed to keep their collaboration quiet, he upheld that agreement, this doesn’t make sense for the radio interview he was quiet about it because she wanted to stay that way, if she wanted to get a copyright on the song she would’ve sue him ages ago

  38. K.C. says:

Taylor’s rep just confirmed this is true and I can’t stop laughing. Don’t mess with this chick. Oh my god, she is providing us with such juiciness this summer.

  39. CatJ says:

I am just happy about the recycling of the Drake dance box…. that is all….

  40. Annieb says:

    Check out Calvin Harris’ tweets.

    • Sue says:

is that really his account? bc there were some rumors about his tweets before. if yes then wow, just wow 😀

  41. Crox says:

And Calvin Harris tweets back and misses the point completely. On purpose, I presume, I don’t think he’s that dumb, but his ego will make him explode soon.

  42. kanyekardashian says:

I’m so happy that I am stuck in the Lilith Fair days, because I don’t understand what’s going on in the music biz today. Whoever this Calvin Harris is, he supposedly made $65 million last year – for what? What does he even do – spin records? You can make tens of millions of dollars doing that? What happened to writing your own lyrics, playing your own instruments, singing live to an audience? If you can’t do that, you don’t deserve a career in music.

    • Scotchy says:

      @kaynekardashian,

Ok I will give Calvin million names Harris some credit,
He does play instruments, he does write his lyrics and he also produces and engineers.
Before he was this weird dance music dude, he had a band and was the singer and writer and producer of some really really fun 80’s esque gems.
So regardless of this ridiculous melodrama, he IS quite talented.

Right now the music industry is horsecrap so you know making lame dance tracks with little to no live instrumentation makes bank so it’s what folks do, but he does have chops. And his chops are better than old Swiftles. Anyhow, this whole thing is ridiculous. It seems suspect to me that she wouldn’t have just had her name on the track. Either way you better believe she has some serious publishing on this so she is making bank, they both are. It’s kinda a win win situation for both of them in terms of press for a track that is already doing really well…

  43. Mindy_dopple says:

His twrets are glorious, no one knows how the agreement for the pseudonym took place but apparently she can’t take credit for her work anymore? She’s not slamming him, she’s not keeping it a secret. Maybe she was upset professionally that you said you would never work with her after you literally have a hit because of her. Guess what? That’s her right, so is those writing credits. She’s a multitasker, she can burn you a ltitle more (by being honest about her work) brothel man and all while on the lap of her new love.

  44. Mar says:

Sorry but I’m on team Calvin for this one. She wanted it kept a secret, now that the song is a hit she’s talking…..

    • Annie... says:

Because she needs a hit? Please.
I think she is hitting back at him because his team has been trying to make it look like she cheated with Hiddles

      • Mar says:

No, because she wants the credit and the attention now after a making a professional decision, duh….
She’s just as petty as he is.

    • Annieb says:

I agree. Her people could’ve talked to him if she changed her mind and wanted to get credit for the lyrics. Instead they chose to do it via TMZ and other gossip sites. It’s even worse that she’s trying to make it seem like this whole thing was the cause of their break-up.

      • Jwoolman says:

Maybe it really was the cause of the breakup, or at least the last straw. If she felt he disrespected her professionally, that would definitely put a significant stress on any relationship. He’s being so snotty that I wouldn’t leap to the assumption that Taylor is the one spinning tales. And there is also his behavior with Rita after their breakup – likewise hitting her in her profession and actually costing her a lot of money. He sounds like a guy to be careful of getting entangled with.

  45. Mindy_dopple says:

one more! Calvin’s reaction even after he completely yanked all of the songs he wrote for Rita?? What does this guy know about agreements? I’m sure he even tried to convince Taylor to not use her pseudonym name at all, too bad she’s too smart for that. She’s just taking credit for her work. Take that Calvin, now one of your smash hits will forever be associated with Taylor.

    • Annieb says:

Isn’t it presumed that both Rita and Taylor cheated on him? That makes his pettiness understandable in a way.

      • Nicole says:

Yep. Can’t blame someone for being petty when in the beginning both splits were cordial until he found out they cheated.
If it was Taylor she would be going FULL FORCE on the cheating thing. This is relatively mild

      • wrinkledpeas says:

So there’s solid evidence she cheated? Oh wait, there isn’t…

      • PrincessMe says:

        But… but… but… he said so @wrinkledpeas.

      • claire says:

There’s no evidence she cheated. That’s just basically a story everyone has built up to slut shame her because she started dating someone right after him. No one would care if he had started dating someone after her.

      • Noname says:

@Annieb- Why is Calvin’s pettiness understandable but Taylor’s is not? Double standard?

  46. Fa says:

Calvin Harris confirmed she wanted to keep quiet but her team are saying now she wrote the song and he acknowledged that fact I am really with this why team Taylor talked about this song when the beginning she didn’t want to do anything with it
    https://twitter.com/popcrave/status/753263522998616064

  47. boobytrap says:

    THOUGHTS (I have ’em):

    1. CH is a wimpering sulk. He doesn’t get to boo-hoo when he screwed over Rita Ora from not performing their song.

1a. I’m not entirely convinced that TS outed this herself. It sounds like someone making waves and she simply confirmed the story, as it makes no sense to deny it.

1b. It’s possible that SHE leaked it so that she could put him in the corner, which proves how much of a genius manipulator she is.

    2. I really, really love how much of a whiny child he is. Selling stories (Taylor wanted to get married!), changing stories (Taylor cheated on me!), and now the best tweet of the week:
“I know you’re off tour and need nd you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy…blah blah”. ooooooohhhhhh, burn. But it only makes him look petty. He should have saved the Katy commentary for an interview or something. Not as a retaliation (see Calvin? you are not the master that is Taylor. You didn’t play it right).

  48. someone says:

I wonder how much of the decision to have Taylor remain anonymous as the writer was her choice and how much was him instigating? Calvin makes it out to be Taylor’s decision but what if really he pushed her to remain anonymous and then mocked her by saying he’d never work with her. Either way, he had to know he was egging her on to admit it when he keep talking about her on twitter and complaining she never met his Mom etc etc.

    • Fa says:

She is business woman she knows her right & I believe she wanted to stay quiet about it or else she will has sue him if she didn’t approved that he release the song

    • Goldie says:

The story from tmz was clearly from Taylor’s camp, and it says that both Taylor and Calvin wanted to keep her involvement quiet, so I believe that. That said, I do think he could have been nicer when asked about working Taylor. Something along the lines of “She’s super talented, but we like to keep our careers separate” would have been less dismissive.

All this drama is so funny, though. I’m not on either side. I’m just watching it all play out.

  49. Crox says:

    So it goes like this:

    1. They break up, there’s a rumour he dumped her for being too clingy, he’s fine with this narrative, so is she (I guess, if they never commented).
    2. She shows up with a new dude.
    3. He now claims she dumped him and not only that, but she cheated too.
    4. She claims the relationship went sour when he, eventhough he worked with her, said he’d never collaborate with her.
    5. He confirms that and wants her to stop commenting on him (will he stop dragging her, tho?).

    Did I miss anything important?

    • Looty says:

      Thank you!

    • M.A.F. says:

you forgot about the part where they give snide looks to each other across the junior high cafeteria.

And I doubt he will stop dragging her. How long did he drag Rita Ora?

      • Crox says:

Oh, I forgot about the song he wrote from TH’s perspective. That was 4.1 or something.

And there was something about him having a woman with him when his car crashed. It was mentioned a couple of times here but I don’t know the details. I did read, tho, when I was trying to find anything on that, that he left the hospital against doctor’s wishes because they didn’t have a room where he could stay alone. That’s really not a good move, dude! (But this was reported by DM and they’re notorious liars, so I’m taking it with a grain of salt.)

  50. Alex says:

Ohhhh the tweets are good. And he manages to make her look petty yet again. Dang.
    Alright Calvin I see you

    • claire says:

Legit question: how is it petty to admit she wrote it? he was taking credit, trashing her, that he was too cool to collaborate with. Where’s the petty, except on his side? Kudos to her for continuing to stand up against his nutty twitter meltdowns.

      • D says:

Petty is she agreeing to keep the rights quiet and then sending her squad to try paint him as a douche for not giving her credit she agreeded she didn’t want public. They agreeded to that otherwise she’d have sued him way early. We aren’t talking about a nobody here, It’s Taylor Swift. He wouldn’t get away with some bs like that. Also, all of this weeks after the relationship is over and she is parading around with a new dude. Why now? I don’t like Calvin and think he is whinning, but in this case it was clearly her team/squad or whatever wanted to start s*it that was already quiet. That makes her the petty one.

  51. Lilacflowers says:

AdamEppieCalvinNukeLaloushHarris is tweeting that, yes, she did write the lyrics and yes, she does sing on the track but he did all the other stuff so, apparently lyrics and voice are insignificant because just listen to his drumbeats. He then tweets that she’s picking on him and should focus on her new relationship and hints that if new relationship were so great she wouldn’t have time to make her old boyfriend look so bad and he’s such a victim. He’ll probably delete most of it in a few hours.

Oh, Eppie Calvin, sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. And sometimes, it rains.

    • peanut says:

his tweets are just brutal. He’s acting like a child.

    • K.C. says:

He made himself sound so foolish in those tweets. She didn’t say anything bad about him, just confirmed a rumor that was growing more persistent. He’s making it a bigger deal than it needs to be.

      • Livvers says:

He sounded like every other self-absorbed man trying to be ‘totally chill that his ex has moved on to a new relationship, oh, but his enduring beef with her is just totally based on unemotional logic,’ and in doing so exposes his soft condescending belly. Who among the least of us lady-weasels could resist such a tempting target and refrain from sinking our sharp little teeth into it?

      • PrincessMe says:

        +1

    • Dara says:

Oh Ebby Calvin, you just got lesson number one. Don’t think, it can only hurt the ball club. Or – The world is made for people who aren’t cursed with self-awareness.

    • Jwoolman says:

He’s now claiming he wrote the music. Is that consistent with what else has been confirmed? Some people have noted her skill writing catchy tunes. Did she write this one and not only the lyrics? Or is he exaggerating his involvement in tweaking the tune?

  52. Annieb says:

Could he perform the song without the lyrics if Taylor, hypothetically, decides she doesn’t want them played?

  53. claire says:

Just saw his tweets. What is he exposing? What is he mad about? That he can’t claim credit for a song he didn’t write? I’m so confused as to how this is her doing something wrong.

    • Alex says:

He’s saying that they mutually agreed to keep it quiet but now she wants credit beyond the alias SHE wanted. The TMZ story is clearly a slant to make Calvin the bad guy when it seems like if she wanted her name on the song it would’ve been there.
That and she’s supposedly happily in love with the new guy that she (probably) cheated on him with so why drop the story.

Basically this is petty all around.

      • Crox says:

I don’t think she wants her name behind the song, she’d get royalties anyway. I think what she wants is to explain why the relationship went sour. She’d keep it quiet but Harris accused her of cheating and now she’s showing the public that the relationship was in trouble even sooner and that he’s not innocent either.

        But yes, petty all around.

      • claire says:

I guess is someone was nonstop trashing me and dismissing my talent, while taking credit for a song I wrote that is giving him a hit, AND, everyone was asking me if I wrote it…I’d have no issue admitting, yes, I wrote it.

Still don’t see why this is Calvin ‘exposing’ Taylor or how it’s shade to Taylor. I’m seeing lots of tweets like this: “God bless Calvin Harris for exposing Taylor Swift.”

Exposing her as what? A good songwriter? lololol

Or “thank goodness Calvin is standing up for himself.” For what? He’s the one who has been mouthing off and constantly going on about her. What has she actually said? He’s the one that said he was bored with her. Dumped her. Then he’s flip-flopped. She’s just moved on, so he’s mad. There ain’t’ nothing for him to stand up against.

      • Livvers says:

        @claire All the applause! 👏👏👏

      • someone says:

        I’m with you Claire!!

      • Ennie says:

        Claire +1000

    • Annie says:

Maybe you should read his tweets again. He said he wrote the music, and she the lyrics. So am guessing he’s mad since TMZ and people wrote that she wrote the entire song on her own.

  54. Simone says:

Taylor has met her match in “PETTY” and I love it 😂😂😂. Watch her attempt to make it seem like she’s talking the high road now. Calvin is a douche but Taylor is no Saint either .

  55. guest says:

uh, so I am not the only who one hears it. At the end, “but she is looking at you oooh…” and I thought that is not rihana’s voice and it does sound like taylor. well now I know why.
    😉

    • Lauren II says:

I jog every morning to TIWYCF. The shrilling chorus does not sound like RiRi. I believe Taylor sang on the track.
Calvin states Taylor is “boring, not his type, unsexy, and more like a friend-not a lover.” Adam was also caught exiting out of a seedy rub and tug. Soon afterwards, Adam gladly uses Taylor’s lyrics for profit and fame.
I would run to Hiddles too.

  56. Freddy Spaghetti says:

Calvin is acting like an idiot. He really needs to just stop talking and be grateful that his narrative of lies hasn’t done more serious damage to his career.

    • Alex says:

They both need to stop. Taylor have to stop the petty games to make her the victim all the time too. Its annyoying af and overplayed. Focus on the showmances she is great at.

  57. Courtney says:

His tweets are just ridiculous. It would have been SO easy for him to take the high road.

    • Annie says:

You do understand that he wrote the music? Her team or squad or whatever they call themselves were trying to present it if she was the creative brains behind the entire song. She only wrote the lyrics, no songwriter wouldn’t stand for someone else took credit for their music. He shouldn’t be quiet if his work is misrepresented,

      • Lilacflowers says:

A good deal of what he is tweeting goes beyond apportioning credit for the song.

      • Courtney says:

His first two or three tweets were fine. He confirmed her contribution to the song and clarified his own.

It’s after his third tweet about the situation where he gets unnecessarily rant-y. Why did he bring other people into the conversation? Why couldn’t he have just stopped after the third tweet and taken the high road like the professional collaborator he should be?

Between this and the Rita Ora situation, it does not paint a flattering (or mature) picture of who he is. Leave the rants for the master, Kanye 🙂

      • Noname says:

According to douchey he wrote the music.

      • Annie says:

Yes because kanyes rants supporting Bill Cosby and dragging kids and ranting about how disgusting his ex is better than calvins petty ass. Seriously Calvin is petty and immature, but only a die hard Taylor fan would think he’s the biggest douche that ever lived. As Twitter meltdowns go this is fairly mild.

      • Luca76 says:

Nah if it’s between Taylor and Katy I’m team Katy. If we are talking about Kanye although he’s a crazed idiot I believe that Taylor gave him the thumbs up on his album.
But Calvin on the other hand is a total douchey, petty, scummy jerk in the situation, I haven’t even heard the song either.

    • holly hobby says:

Why when she dragged all of her exes through the mud (with the exception of the Kennedy CHILD). If you can dish it you can take it. Finally someone fighting back and it is a glorious thing to watch!

  58. T. May says:

I don’t think T. Swift or her camp would leak to TMZ. It’s become a MRA mouthpiece. The outlet would matter as much to her as the message. TMZ has been Team Overrated DJ, not Team Now Banging Hiddles. Leak to deny is a strategy but so is leak to attack. I’m putting this on Rita Ora’s sloppy seconds. I think he’s the “source.” A rumor about the song that wouldn’t go away was true. He used TMZ to get the truth out, about both their breakup and “This Is What You Came For,” and to give him a chance to attack his ex. My take, as a Gossip PH.D., not a Swiftloonie. He’s still trying to control the narrative of their relationship, like a loser.

  59. Colete says:

    Team Calvin
    Drag her Ass
I’m starting to believe she lied about not knowing about Kanye song as well.If you want to stay anonymous than stay anonymous.

    • Elias says:

^^^THIS^^^ I think this whole mess started when Taylor got wind of the story coming out in GQ. Taylor’s been called a lot of things but until now she’s NEVER been called a liar. NEVER… She freaked out. Go look at her team’s response posted in the article. Just look at it. LOOK AT IT… She’s had everyone jumping hoops and acting like rats in a maze for the last month to bury that story. So far she’s been successful. So far… Here’s me, with a big bowl of popcorn just waiting for Kanye to drop that mix! 😉

    • Freddy Spaghetti says:

Kim claimed there was audio/video of Taylor agreeing to Kanye’s song in GQ. Knowing the Kardashians, not to mention Kanye, you think that wouldn’t have been released ten seconds after it happened? Please. I know Taylor is the most annoying person ever for a lot of people but she’s not stupid when it comes to business or herself as a brand.

      • Elias says:

Well Freddy, there’s laws about recording/releasing convos without both parties knowledge. There are (allegedly) witnesses during this convo. I’m waiting to see if he figures out a way to get the tea spilt by some other avenue rather that just straight up releasing the recording. And here I thought it was gonna be a boring summer in the world of gossip 😉

      • MI6 says:

This would be the Best Day Ever if Kanye released that tape now…

      • lilacflowers says:

Agreeing to being named in a song; agreeing to specific derogatory lyrics in a song; and agreeing to being depicted as stark naked, including breasts, pubic hair, and vulva, lying in a bed next to the rutting pig who has been harassing you for years so he can pretend to claim dominion over your breasts and vulva are three very different things. Which one did KimI’mokayifmypigofahusbandfantasizesaboutsexwithotherwomencallsmeabitchandputsmybuttondisplay claim Taylor agreed to do?

    • Luca76 says:

I totally believe what Kim said that still doesn’t make her wrong in this particular situation. Or make it alright for Kanye to release that disgusting video.

  60. Cricket says:

I wonder if Rhianna is upset she has a hit song written by Taylor Swift? And has Taylor singing with her on it?

  61. Jade says:

I swear Taylor Swift wins juiciest gossip of 2016. This girl. Say what you want about her, but she has us talking about her. First, the gripping hookup with youknowho. Second, the shocking song saga. Third, Rihanna the rebel manages to sing a Swift song? And in between Kimye try to get some attention waving frantically. Alert the church elders, it’s gossip sin that’s so delicious!

  62. Annie says:

a lot of people are missing the point here. There is nobody taking the credit for someone’s work. She didn’t write the entire thing on her own. He wrote the music, she the lyrics. He produced it. She sang backing vocals. They share publishing rights. It’s a collab. She wanted to go by an pseudonym, her choice. She’s getting payed, that she only wanted the public acknowledgment now tells us that this is not about the song in essence. It’s about two exes who feel they need destroy eachother post break up, I pity anyone who gets involved with either of them. Both are extraordinarily vengeful.

    • Luca76 says:

If he publicly was patronizing and made it sound like he would never work with her. If the dispute over the collaboration caused the breakup. If the rumors of her cheating were used to advertise a new single that may have been written ages beforehand. I wouldn’t be so quick to deny the truth when asked.

  63. wrinkledpeas says:

So basically he and Taylor’s rep confirmed the same thing: that she had a substantial contribution to the song. And he’s throwing a tantrum because….??

    • claire says:

      No idea.
I guess people also forgot that he was being petty and posting Instagrams about how he writes his own songs, unlike other people. LOL.

Basically, he’s throwing a childish temper tantrum because his plan to deny Taylor credit for her songwriting didn’t pan out. LOL. But for some reason, some people think that makes him a winner?! It’s hilarious.

    • Annie says:

      @wrinkledpeas
No, they are not saying the same thing. Taylor’s rep or maybe it’s just lazy journalism from people. Said she wrote the whole song. He says she wrote the lyrics, he wrote the music. Two different things,

      @ Claire

How was it his plan to deny her rights when SHE wanted to use a pseudonym?
This mess isn’t about denying anyone anything. She has the publishing rights, means she’s making bank. It’s just about two petty exes.

      • wrinkledpeas says:

@Annie – the text from the TMZ and People articles only say that Taylor “wrote the song.” Not the entire song, and both do mention Calvin’s part in the collaboration (and so did not erase that information). So I’m not getting the impression that Taylor was the sole contributor to the song, just that she, as I said above, put in a substantial effort.

    • Veronica says:

Because it makes him look a fool. He’s been upset about this breakup, tweeting about it, posting on Instagram…and now we know that not only does his summer smash hit owe some of its momentum to his ex-girlfriend but that she’s been collecting revenue for it behind the scenes all along. Which just feeds more into my thinking that a lot of his anger stems from hurt pride more than hurt feelings. Like any relationship, I’m sure both of them had flaws that contributed to the breakup, but as to who’s come out the “winner,” well…who’s spending his summer dragging his ex online, and who spent last week touring Europe with the new beau?

  64. Danielle says:

This whole thing just reminds me of Rita Ora and what she said about him when they split in this old story..

    http://www.celebitchy.com/445578/rita_ora_is_still_sore_about_calvin_harris_why_i_thought_he_had_my_back/

On her break up with Calvin: “There was a reason why I split up with him. It was more of a thing where I was in awe. I was at that point in my relationship where I felt he could do no wrong. I thought he had my back and that he’d never steer me wrong. But then ‘I Will Never Let You Down’ came out, and everything started to go a bit weird. I don’t know if it was because business was mixed with personal or what.”

    • Annie says:

The Rita situation she refers to here Was both had hit songs competing in the charts- he had summer she had never let me down -both of the songs written by him. She felt he was competetive. Probably true. But Rita is no angel herself. Very strong rumour he dumped her due to cheating. obvi she wouldn’t bring that up. The last I heard Rita wants him back so I don’t know, they are all crazy

  65. L says:

Wow! You can cut the sexual tension with a freaking knife..haha

  66. Lisatorner says:

I immediately thought the lyrics seemed different from the usual Harris track, the lyrics to this song are written from the “guys” perspective about how magical this girl is and how lucky he is to have her looking at him..

All his other lyrics have presented him as a cool guy who DGAF..

To find out it is her lyrics makes perfect sense, she would think that men think this way or that they should think that way.

However Let’s not get it twisted These are the amazing lyrics which all this drama is about:

This is what you came for
Lightning strikes every time she moves
    Everybody’s watching her..
But she’s looking at you (ooh ooh x 1 million)

we go fast with the games we play
Don’t know why it’s gotta be this way
He says nothing more than we need
She says your place when we leave
    Everybody’s watching her
But she’s looking at you (ooh ooh X 10 million)

    That’s it folks

    • Ennie says:

Still a better love story than Twilight.
And the lyrics that Riri sings in many of her songs are not all that, they are many times dance tunes. I usually DGAF about lyrics in a club song. Maybe I should check how amazing are these lyrics compared to “Work”?

  67. JRenee says:

Somebody is ass hurt and being an ass about it…

  68. claire says:

Two men known for being terrible to women have tried to take credit for her success and she corrected both of them, but y’all are slamming her and cheering the misogynists on. Damn. Interesting stuff.

    • Goldie says:

Eh, I don’t care for Calvin. but I wouldn’t say that he tried to take credit for her success. She agreed to use a pseudonym, and she still owns the rights to the lyrics.

    • Ennie says:

I don’t know why he is so hurt about this. She revealed the pseudonym was hers. So? I like that she has a nice tune that branches over her usual style. Who knows? Probably the cool kids would’ve said “no” to a song written by TS, so she showed she could actually do somethings out of her comfort zone if she wishes so.
I saw some people saying that they did not believe TS could write such a song… Well we do not really know her, do we? She could be writing “cooler”, “dirtier” songs as far as we know. I actually do not mind her. She can be imperfect, but I like quite a few of her songs.

    • Elle says:

+1000 @claire She isn’t saying anything defamatory. Simply agreed to her contribution. And this is totally acceptable! His response was incredibly overblown. This coming from a guy who has already been trying to paint her as boring, bland, and a cheater- Writing a song from Tom’s perspective. Of course you are mad that she isn’t letting you have full credit now. Don’t blame her!

  69. Kimbers says:

While i think swift is embarrassing herself by getting played in her current tomsituation, grandpa harris needs to take several seats. His music is lagging and i doubt he’s used to being with a woman who’s his better.

  70. Mira says:

Team No one! This song came out almost 3 months ago Taylor so this is not about getting credit. The reason this is happening now is obviously because of the cheating accusation. Accusing her of cheating is effectively attacking her brand as a good role model. So she’s attacking his brand in return ( he recently posted on Instagram about his songwriting awards).I bet she peeks on Calvins Instagram/Snap/ etc when Tommy-Anne is out for one of those runs of his 🙂 They both know how to hit where it hurts!

  71. Cali says:

And of course Katy Perry had to get herself in the mix with some shady comments. She is annoying x1000.

  72. Jen says:

I wouldn’t buy a TS album but I appreciate that she is a Prolific writer and this sounds totally like her other recent radio songs.

A song is nothing without the core, which is almost always the words and melody. Thats what she contributed. So he’s acting the typical male musician ego bullshit way. Give credit where credit is due manchild.

    • Mira says:

They are both prolific writers. She contributed the words not melody. She made the choice to use a pseudonym. Its not a feminist issue its just a fight between two giant egos with very valuable brands who happens to have been romantically involved about a month ago.

      • Tammy says:

I guess you missed the part where he confirmed she also wrote the melody….

      • Mira says:

        No he didn’t.His tweet
Calvin Harris ‏@CalvinHarris 7h7 hours ago

I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym

  73. Suzanne says:

What upsets me most about this story is that this song constitutes a hit these days. Ugh.

  74. KatMC says:

This just keeps getting better and better! The fact that Calvin Harris brought up Katy Perry is HILARIOUS! If Tom Hiddleston does not run away as fast as he can now, he is a total fool.

  75. Bridget says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  76. InvaderTak says:

Well, the tide has officially turned on Swity. Everyone seen the #TaylorSwiftIsOver thing? I saw it on the NYDN site already for pete’s sakes. I don’t think her stans can drown this one out, and neither can her new “romance”. Everyone is over it looks like and Calvin is leading the charge. She’s getting dragged hard. I think now we’ll see how savvy her/her people are for real. She and TH need to disappear now or they’re both in deep trouble, publicly speaking. I don’t even care if it’s fair or not that social media is dragging her; it was inevitable and the signs that people and the media are sick of her antics are all there. Now this mess is interesting again. Both TS and CH are so immature; it’s hilarious. Will she be smart about this or throw a public fit and make it worse for all involved? We shall see….Some of the tweets are actually pretty funny.

    • Tara says:

Have never even listened to a Taylor swift song, but I don’t get why any of this means she’s over or that Calvin “won.” I swear swift hatred must be some kind of psychedelic.

    • Veronica says:

I think it’s rather premature to assume an ex-boyfriend is going to be the end of a multi-platinum selling artist. Regardless of how I feel about her personal life, this woman has proven that she has staying power in the industry as far as both her record sales and PR is concerned. If RDJ can bounce back from years of a drug addiction douchery, it’ll say a lot about our society if a woman can’t rebound professionally from a bad breakup.

  77. jferber says:

I think Taylor should prevent Calvin from singing her song. That would be his just desserts since he banned Rita Ora from performing his songs since their break-up. I’d even go further and suggest that he be banned from entering the U.S. I think this is fair. We have to deal with Donald Trump AND Calvin Harris at the same time? It’s cruel. And InvaderTak, what are you talking about? I was always meh about Taylor, but now that this has happened, I like her a whole lot more. Calvin has been outmatched. He should just wave the white flag now.

  78. OhDear says:

I don’t get this drama at all. So they write this song and agree to not disclose her involvement. When asked, he does what they agreed on and says she wasn’t involved. And now she wants to start [doodoo] because he did what they agreed on?

TBH, it’s probably manufactured to increase sales for that song or for some other purpose.

  79. whybother says:

Gosh… A new development in this messy break up! I like.
And no wonder that song lyric seems familiar. It was Tay~
Well, no matter how petty I think she is, I do agree that she is a smart business woman.
annnddd CH is continue to act like a petulant kid at twitter. I dont understand his tweets after he confirmed Tay’s involvement in that song. Guess just being petty and childish as usual?
And why are some people think that just because some of us call CH petty, we are not calling Tay the same too? This is not either/or situation. Both of them are petty and childish. But right now, CH is bringing his petty game to the front and centre and we call him for it. It doesnt makes many of us Tay stans tho.

  80. Betsy says:

It’s funny to read this page of comments the day after it was confirmed that Taylor did the lyrics and melody.

Also, for as much talk of Taylor “stans” as there is here, it seems the really obsessive people are those who hate Taylor. Like irrationally so.
