Pippa Middleton has ‘sizzling chemistry’ with terribly rich James Matthews

Ever since she announced her engagement, Pippa Middleton has been getting pap’d constantly. As in, at least two costume changes a day. These are some photos from Wednesday, where Pippa wore a cute Vila dress, which I surprisingly like a lot. I’m hoping that now Pippa is engaged to someone Terribly Rich™, she’ll find a way to hire a full-time stylist and her fashion choices from here on out will be on the upswing. Fingers crossed! As you can see, Pippa was also making sure the photographers got some shots of her ring. While I rolled my eyes a little, I’m also happy for Pippa. She seems really giddy. Drunk on love, perhaps. Or just really pleased that she’s no longer “the Pippa Problem.”

There are several new stories about and around Pippa, and it does feel like the royal-gossip people are really hoping that the Pippa-engagement stories sell. Are they selling? I don’t know. It’s a weird week for gossip and it feels like everything is being drowned out by A) the Trumps and B) Taylor Swift vs. Kimye. But people are happy for Pippa, so here are some of the stories out there.

Pippa’s sizzling chemistry. Here’s something I didn’t realize until now, but James Matthews is 40 years old, eight years older than Pippa. I think that’s good for her – he’ll probably be a stabilizing force. E! News’ source claims that Pippa and James are a “love match” and “they’ve always had sizzling chemistry. He’s now 40 and ready to settle down.” “Sizzling chemistry” doesn’t really go with “he was looking for a wife now that he’s 40,” but whatever.

Pippa’s winter wedding. E!’s source says Pippa is “over the moon as she definitely didn’t expect an engagement so soon!” She also wants to make sure that her wedding isn’t like William and Kate’s 2011 wedding, and she’s thinking about having a winter wedding “to immediately avoid any inevitable comparisons.”

It’s never too early to talk about the gown. Apparently. Let the girl breathe! People Mag is running a story about how Pippa will likely go with a British designer for the gown but Pippa would definitely avoid Sarah Burton/McQueen because “she won’t want her bridal gown to compete with Kate’s – the wedding dress of the century!” O RLY? When the century comes to a close and we’re looking at the best wedding gowns of the 21st century, I doubt Kate’s gown will even make the top 50. I’m just sayin’. My guess is that Pippa will go with Temperley London or Jenny Packham.

If Pippa is thinking about a winter wedding, would that be THIS winter? Like, a January or February wedding? That might be something nice and different, actually. I suspect that Pippa will end up with a spring or summer wedding in the end, because she’ll want to wear a clingy gown that shows off her figure, not a bulky, winter-ready gown. But who knows?

  1. Zimmerman says:

Pippa may just prove to be a lot more exciting than her sister.

    • Bee says:

But nothing about this engagement screams excitement. Not even the ring. Unsure why this is even newsworthy. I guess because he’s sufficiently rich and/or posh?

    • Guesto says:

      @Zimmerman – That’s setting a very low bar.

      • cherrypie says:

And what is she grinning so much about in these pics?

      • Canadian Becks says:

The Middleton sisters are very prone to big wide smiles. I have images of Carole coaching, “Stride, and grin. Now Stride, and grin”.

      • Zimmerman says:

True, but Kate’s already done that and I still enjoy the hoopla.

    • Suzanne says:

That wouldn’t be hard to do. I think she’s cuter too!

  2. Melly says:

Pippa Tips: When choosing a husband, make sure they are “terribly wealthy”

There are some really awesome winter wedding gowns. I hope she goes with something a little different and fun.

    • Intuitive says:

In the words of the late, great Caroline Aherne: “so, Pippa, what first attracted you to the terribly rich James Matthews?”

    • Canadian Becks says:

Somewhere, in the style of Mrs. Bennet, Carole Middleton is exclaiming, “Oh my dearest child! 10,000 £ a week!”

    • Sabrine says:

I like the print on that dress, very pretty. I’m glad she’s found happiness even if she does look like the cat that swallowed the cream.

      • Pixelated says:

LOL @ Canadian Becks SO TRUE.
I like her dress. A lot. Grabby hands.
Even if she is marginally more interesting/involved than her sister, I will be content. I’m so glad Pippa is stepping away from column writing, ect. It clearly wasn’t a good fit for her. I do hope she will take on some charity causes like women’s sports. It’s something I’ve wanted Kate to do for a long time but I doubt she ever will.
Will Pippa ever be inspirational? Probably not. But she could prove to be at least not as eye-rolly as Kate.

  3. HappyMom says:

There is no way she’s waiting until next summer: she wants to lock it down.

  4. Kitty says:

On the Daily Mail, its said that James would inherit some land in Scotland and Pippa will be be titled. Also there was another article about pitting Pippa and Kate against each other on the DM and most of the comments were about how Kate won since she has a loving husband, beautiful children and will be titled Queen. Now I think we all know she will not be Queen and William King since he does not want to be. Also there has been a lot of talks of the monarchy abolished once The Queen passes.

    • spidey says:

Where is this talk coming from?

    • Erinn says:

I don’t like the pitting. It’s kind of sad, really. I’m sure Pippa has been compared to Kate most of her life… it must be awful seeing it in the media.

I know it probably won’t happen, but how amazing would it be if Pipps just peaced out and eloped on a beach somewhere and called it a day.

      • Kitty says:

The annoying part is that the Middleton’s will make it a public affair!!!!

      • JenniferJustice says:

I think we all would have a new-found respect for her if that happened. I don’t see Mother Middleton allowing that and Pips still does what mother wants. They all do.

    • MinnFinn says:

The comments might be saying Kate wins but the Daily Mail articles claim Pippa is the victor. That’s because Pippa has the more valuable engagement ring and her Cartier watch is top of the line (about $15k) while Kate’s is only entry level ($6K).

      • Tough Cookie says:

Pippa’s ring is more valuable? Nope, not buying that. Big Blue has the Diana Factor and I don’t see how one can put a price tag on that.

      • Bee says:

If Diana’s ring was to go on the open market it would sell for millions. There is NO competition in that regard. Anyway, Diana’s ring is a statement piece while Pippa’s ring is tacky looking. It’s the kind of ring she’ll look at in a year and think “Damn, I’m stuck with this.”

      • MrsK says:

Kate is called Your Highness and people older than she is have to curtsey to her. She signs her name only as “Catherine.”

Kate wins. And I just threw up a little in my mouth.

      • stella says:

Sorry but Pippa’s ring does not sparkle. Which means it is not a grade D diamond. Not an F Either. So the estimate in the media which referred to her diamond is not correct as they assumed it was a D grade (the best and most expensive). Which it is clearly not. Some people choose size over grade. Especially people who are not diamond experts. So I guess he isn’t.

  5. QQ says:

Do you guys Over enunciate TERRIBLY RICH? or Whine it? Personally Im saying TUH- RIIBLY RIIICHH

    • Melly says:

I’m thinking you and I enunciate it the same way because we are TUHRIIBLY classy.

    • Bridget says:

You’re supposed to say it through clenched teeth.

    • LAK says:

I’m really enjoying Pippa’s engagement to TUH-RIIBLY RIICHH James Mathews with the £17M townhouse.

    • MinnFinn says:

I over enunciate plus I roll the Rs.

    • Canadian Becks says:

And with a mouth full of marbles.

      • antipodean says:

Or plums do as well, Canadian Becks, and reiteration is always good! As in terrubly, terrubly, etc. Mama Middleton must be in seventh heaven. Now she has another posh “do” to plan, I wouldn’t be surprised if she has the brass neck to try for Westminster!

  6. Ms Vogue says:

Worst shoe game, just like her sister…

    • LAK says:

      Her shoes are killing me.

      Cute dress, terrible shoes.

      • Red Snapper says:

Her pigeon toed walk doesn’t help matters. Is that correctable? Is there something she could do to walk normally?

      • LAK says:

I’ve never heard of a cure for knock knees in adults.

      • Azurea says:

No, Red Snapper. Just like nothing can be done about her huge ham hands that hang there. For someone so athletic she is unbelievably ungainly in posture and attitude.
And why is she wearing a large, clunky-looking watch which competes with her ring.
        No taste. *sniffs*

      • burnsie says:

Red Snapper I thought I was the only one that noticed! That walk looks painful

      • JenniferJustice says:

I noticed the competing watch and the funky walk. I gave her the benefit of a doubt that she knock-kneed ’cause she was turning a corner. Does she walk like that when not turning corners? Legit question.

Also, I want Kate to ask her sister if she (Kate) can wear a white dress to her wedding? Things that make you go hmmmm…….

      • LAK says:

JenniferJustice: She’s always had knock knees. It’s the first thing i notice in video/pictures of her when taken front view. Not so evident when she’s in longer skirts.

  7. perplexed says:

“She also wants to make sure that her wedding isn’t like William and Kate’s 2011 wedding,”

How could it possibly be so? Pippa isn’t marrying a royal. This statement reads funny to me. William and Kate’s wedding would always have been different from everybody else’s because of who William is.

I doubt the Queen would be at Pippa’s wedding.

    • Kitty says:

Well until Harry gets married then no one will top the 2011 wedding. Good The Queen doesn’t need to be there.

      • Bee says:

I’m torn at the idea of Harry marrying, mainly because I can’t think of any girl awesome enough for him.

    • Kitty says:

@Bee I feel the same but I think it will happen. Who knows God probably has the right girl Harry is looking for.

    • FuefinaWG says:

I was wondering the same thing, perplexed! Is Pippa going to be arriving in a Carriage?
I agree with losing the watch (but I’m not a fan of watches, either.) If you want people to notice the ring (not a fan of her ring, either), get rid of the watch. But, I suspect, if this family has anything of value they want to make sure everyone can see it.

  8. LAK says:

At least she’s stopped wearing the signet ring.

  9. Micki says:

…..“Sizzling chemistry” doesn’t really go with “he was looking for a wife now that he’s 40,” but whatever……

Why not actually? If s.o. wants to settle down why not take a partner that brings “sizzling chemistry” I don’t get why “settling down” should always mean a loveless match.

  10. Fran says:

I think Kate’s dress will definitely be included in all of those round ups…mostly for what it represents, but the dress was actually quite beautiful and fitting for the occasion.

Either way, I’m happy for Pippa. I haaaaate her ring (serioulsy, it looks so so clunky) but she does look happy

  11. Chaine says:

Wtf? She would probably have sizzling chemistry with Donald Trump, for that matter, if he was giving her a £250,000 engagement ring.

  12. Lainey says:

They said in their statement they’ll marry in 2017, so if she’s having a winter wedding January or February. I think it’ll be next summer sometime.
Is it wrong that I’m wondering will the father of the bride pay for the wedding or will ‘terribly rich’ James pay for it?

  13. dodgy says:

She’ll probably have a destination wedding somewhere warm, tbh.

    • Mika says:

I’ve thought that too – perhaps on St. Barths, at his parent’s resort Eden Rock.

  14. Tourmaline says:

Uncle Gary Goldsmith has tweeted that Pippa’s ring is “beautiful” and retweeted a negative story about the ring being vulgar with the comment “Piss off”.

Wonder if he will be invited to the wedding. I think Carole may have cut him off after a few years ago when he went to Hello! with his memories and pictures of his nieces in an effort to flog his Ibiza property that was up for sale.

    • Kitty says:

Doubt it. Didn’t he fund them?

      • Mika says:

That is one of the stories out there – the other is that the Middleton family had access to a trust fund set up by Grandpa Middleton. All we know is that this family lived large for many years but with no real legitimate income to support their lifestyle.

    • Starlight says:

I like it Uncle Gary and Spencer Matthews two boys who certainly know how to enjoy themselves at any event

  15. MinnFinn says:

There was no sizzling chemistry when she dated him 3 years ago or they would have stayed together. So I wonder what changed when they started up again in 2015.

  16. Christine says:

Kate is so incredibly boring. I’m seriously hoping that Pippa will bring some interest to the family. Once she’s securely married and is confident with her newly acquired wealth, I hope she goes off script. One of the reasons I don’t like the Middleton clan is that they are so carefully managed. Let’s hope that James’ brother Spencer rubs off on her!

  17. MinnFinn says:

I have a plot twist for Pippa’s wedding planning reality show which I’ve titled “Carole’s In Charge”. Spencer Matthews and James Middleton should hook up. My theory is that Spencer claims 1000+ female sex partners because he’s actually gay but he’s overcompensating trying to suppress his own sexuality all while hoping his partner count will convince the public too. And there are ongoing rumors about James Middleton being closeted so my show CIC is the perfect forum for these two dudes spilling their tea.

    • PGrant's Girl says:

Omg that would be amazing! This needs to happen.

      • MinnFinn says:

One of the episodes will be “The Bachelors Tell All”. I can’t wait to hear what Nico, Alex, Lord Percy and others have to say about their involvement with Carole and Pippa.

  18. what's inside says:

I do not see anything sizzling about this relationship other than the fact that she’s finally brought home the bacon.

  19. kodakay says:

Where are pictures/videos of the two of them together so we can see the “sizzling chemistry”. I feel ripped off.

  20. Canadian Becks says:

Everything about Phillipa is kind of…..stubby, isn’t it? Stubby fingers, definitely stubby legs. When the Middleton sisters first came on my radar circa 2006, they were only 22 and 24, but I always assumed Pippa was the older sister.

But they sure are a smiley bunch – makes them come off as easy-going.

  21. Cerys says:

I’m sure I could manage to find some sizzling chemistry with someone terribly rich, if given a chance. Lol

  22. simone says:

i truly wonder at the obsession of america with the british royal family or the middletons….the brits don’t give a toss (specially with the latter).

  23. Dani says:

Her dress is from Asos. $60 bucks and selling out fast. I still hate her ring. Worst setting ever.

  24. Citresse says:

I haven’t summoned the energy to google Matthews sp- pertaining to his net worth, however considering the “terribly rich” label, I’m guessing his net worth is a more comfortable lifestyle compared to a situation of William perhaps abdicating someday or the British Monarchy being phased out sometime sooner than expected.
As for the question of a third child for W&K, I would guess if Pippa gets pregnant very soon after her wedding, then Kate will have a third baby. The clock is ticking.

    • Kitty says:

Why would they have another baby?

      • Janis says:

Competition for attention? You just know that Kate loves attention and with her sister being in the news so much with her engagement, wedding and then children expected, Kate might feel slighted. Ridiculous, I know, but these are the Middletons we’re talking about.

      • Citresse says:

        Janis
Yes, I agree and Kate, I presume, wants her last child to be close in age to Pippa’s first baby. You know, play dates, photo ops together etc… the attention esp paid by Daily Mail could be epic yes indeed.

  25. Tough Cookie says:

    I am loving the dress!!!

Is it just me or does she look like she forgot to spray tan her legs? She looks orange-y on top and then….those white legs.

  26. Georgia says:

I will never stop being amused that for all Royals’ paranoia about privacy, now they’ll be related to someone who was in a reality TV show. Can you imagine the glory that will now be Christmas at the middletons!
For that, Pippa, I’ll love you forever.
