Taylor Swift is trying to shut down an Aussie graffiti artist for a ‘Taylor Smith’ mural

wenn28660602

Following Kim Kardashian’s Receipts on Taylor Swift, many joked that Kim had “killed” Taylor. Meaning, Taylor was dead socially, her reputation was dead, it was the death of the Poor Innocent Blonde Child Act, etc. To honor the passing of Taylor’s credibility, an Australia graffiti artist created the public art you can see above. Even though “Taylor Smith” is an intentional typo (which he admits), I think the fact that we’re mourning the death of “Taylor Smith” is especially hilarious. Taylor Swift IS Taylor Smith. She is Becky with the Innocent Act. And as you can imagine, Taylor Smith is not happy. Taylor Smith’s lawyers are trying to shut this sh-t down.

A day after completing a mural signaling the death of “Taylor Smith” – a clear parody of Swift – in the wake of an ongoing feud with Kanye and Kim Kardashian West, the Melbourne-based painter claims he received an email from Tay’s attorneys asking that the artwork be taken down.

The mural, with a by no means unflattering portrait of the “Bad Blood” singer, reads, “In loving memory of Taylor Smith, 1989-2016.”

Calling the alleged correspondence from Swift’s attorney “your typical cease and desist kind of legalese garble email,” Lush Sux declined to go into detail about the contents of the alleged email, citing legal reasons. He added that he had no plans to destroy the mural.

“I won’t be taking down my ‘Taylor Smith’ mural anytime soon,” said the artist. “But there have been multiple threats from Taylor Swift’s own version of the Hitler youth, who dub themselves ‘Swiftys,’ to go down and destroy the wall.”

In fact, Sux is prepared to go further.

“I’m sure I can cook up a round two for the spot if it gets destroyed. I may even go down and change it around tonight for another good laugh,” said the artist, considering the idea of putting Caveman Spongebob’s face over hers. Among the general, non-Swifty public though, the reception of the Taylor memorial has been much less contentious. Since the mural was officially completed on Wednesday, people have honored the commemorative portrait with “empty beer bottles, cheap roses and even cheaper candles,” said Lush Sux. “Real classy down there at the moment.”

[From The NYDN]

Unfortunately, the mural has already been defaced. I’m including the Instagrams below. I take Lushsux at his word that he will redo the mural or do a similar mural somewhere else. Please do it, Lushsux!

Other than that, it seems a little bit quiet today? I’m sure as soon as I publish this, all hell will break loose though. People Mag had an exclusive story yesterday afternoon about how Kim Kardashian could face criminal charges for her role in exposing Taylor on Snapchat. But People’s sources say that Kim doesn’t really give a s—t. There’s also this fascinating story at the Daily Beast about Taylor’s utter silence on political matters. Tay’s nemesis Katy Perry has been full-throated in her support of Hillary Clinton, and many other bands and artists have been supporting candidates throughout this political season. But not Taylor. The Daily Beast suggests that Tay is secretly a Trump supporter.

WHO DID THIS?!?!

Taylor is too much. First she tries to Taylor Swift-boat Kanye AND Kim. But little did she know she’d be involved in a Kardash Crash. And now this. GET A SENSE OF HUMOR YOU STUCK UP PRIG!

    • Megan says:

This girl just doesn’t know when to quit. Threatening a graffiti artist may be the most petty thing she has ever done, and that’s saying something.

      • Hazel says:

I thought the threatening of little Etsy sellers was also very petty.

      • Little Darling says:

I thought it was banning her guitar teacher from saying her name?

      • Bonzo says:

Threatening her guitar teacher with a lawsuit was even worse.

      • Erinn says:

As far as Etsy goes – man. Some people make a tidy profit off of those stores – and it’s all ripoff stuff of Frozen or whatever big fandom. They’re benefiting off of copyright infringement – they’re really just asking for legal recourse. I don’t care if it’s a ‘little’ seller – I have to make sure to cover my own butt when it comes to web design and stock photo rights and stuff like that – they need to do the same, but they aren’t.

      • cyn says:

Funnily she’s never sued or even threatened to sue the white supremacist groups who use her image on shirts.

      • ctgirl says:

Swifty wants everyone to believe that she sprang up from under a cabbage leaf fully formed as a wunderkind. That way she doesn’t have to give credit to anyone else for her awesomeness. Her parents must be so proud that they nurtured such a selfish and egotistical creature.

      • fine with the copyright stuff, but the GUITAR TEACHER!? The reason she has a career in the first place!? Come ON you guys, of COURSE she’s a Trump supporter. She uses the EXACT SAME TACTICS as he does. shut everyone else down with lawyers and money, and lie about EVERYTHING. How is this a mystery?

      • Solanaceae (Nighty) says:

Why did she sue her guitar teacher (I basically have no knowledge of her life, music, etc.) except from what I read here…

      • cyn says:

She sued her guitar teacher for shockingly saying that he taught her guitar.

      • Shijel says:

I also thought using an artist’s design with zero credit to the artist was lame.

      • Solanaceae (Nighty) says:

REALLY???? What, she wants people to think she was born a genius, better than Beethoven or Mozart, who also had teachers? She was born already knowing how to play the guitar??

      • Christin says:

Search her name and guitar teacher. A Daily Beast article from last year has a good summary of his story.

      • Alex says:

She’s threatened fans with C&Ds before. Got a girl’s wedding video taken down because their first dance was to a TS song. Seriously this does not surprise me in the least

      • Noname says:

Her lawyers threatened her guitar teacher over a domain name ItaughtTaylorSwfit.com. “According to the Daily News, lawyers got in touch with him on Feb. 6, suggesting that his website “incorporates the famous Taylor Swift trademark in its entirety and suggests TAS’s sponsorship or endorsement of your website. The Domain Name and your use of the Domain Name are also highly likely to dilute, and to tarnish, the famous Taylor Swift trademark.””

If you’re going to bring up her threatening legal action against Etsy and the guitar teacher, please bring the facts with it, too.

      • Llamas says:

Based on all her actions and lawsuits over petty shite I don’t think so understands what the first amendment is.

And suing a couple for playing her song as a first dance is downright absurd and nasty.

    • C says:

I bet she’s freaking out. Thank you, Kim.😀

  2. toni says:

Well Taylor is Aryan Barbie, the Trump supporters love Taylor’s approach when caught lying since that’s what they intend to vote in November.

Also she looks like Trump with that hairdo on the graffiti.

    • Naya says:

Oh shes definitely a Trumpette. If she werent a successful musician, I could see her doing the weather at some backwater Fox affiliate station before marrying into some connected Republican family and setting her squinty sights on the governors house.

      • honeybee blues says:

Let’s not forget that original fantasy involved a Kennedy. I don’t think party affiliation is a factor for TS; she just wants the power.

      • pretty says:

taylor swift got eye lift/eyebrow lift. like Kylie Jenner and Ariana Grande. i was just looking at her old pictures and wow . so different. her eyes are now more round and big. i’m just seeing all this because i’m korean and people are like how asians get double eye surgery to make them look bigger but caucasian celebs do the same freaking thing. not the same surgery but everyone wants bigger eyes

      • Wren says:

Is she, though? Has she ever made any kind of political statement whatsoever? I don’t recall any. It doesn’t fit into her Twee Princess unicorns and kittens image to endorse any candidate, party or political cause.

C’mon, you saw her Taymerica party pics. Her brand of patriotism is all perfect photo ops, coordinating swimwear, and waterslides with her name on them. Taylor Swift supports Taylor Swift and nobody else.

      • Naya says:

@pretty Wow. I hadnt noticed any eyelid surgery but honestly I just dislike her too much to stare at her face too long. It was dumb of me to put in that smirk about her squinting. Theres nothing wrong with narrow eyes and its heartbreaking to hear about Asians changing a very natural and very beautiful feature. I guess when I see her squinting just assume its a put on trait rather than just her natural eye shape, which is probably not fair on my part. I’ll focus on just her duplicitous ways from now on.

    • Audrey says:

I don’t think she necessarily supports Trump. I think she supports selling her music and making lots of money so she’ll stay out of everything political.

Let’s be real. Neither candidate is particularly good and you get backlash for liking either one. I really wouldn’t be able to throw myself behind either one, I don’t support Trump or Clinton.

    • JenniferJustice says:

OMG. I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it – she likes Rump because they have the same hair.

I’d wager a good amount that if the graffiti was flattering her, she would have loved it, but alas, any negative art brings on a law suit threat. I wonder how impressed Tiddles is now.

  3. Bex says:

In the immortal words of Elsa the Snow Queen: ‘let it go, let it goooooo…’

She/her publicity team isn’t reading the response to this right at all. The general public see her as constantly playing the victim now. She should pick her battles, go away properly for a while, then come back with new music and claim she’s learnt from past mistakes.

    • Bess says:

I agree. Taylor would be doing herself a big favor by disappearing and staying silent for a while. The public, especially in the US, has a very short memory.

    • Jegede says:

      Agreed.

But did this guy get an email?

The NYDN stresses on the word ‘alleged’ about this correspondence in their story, so I wonder if they buy this either.
Or think he’s an ‘artist’ looking for some infamy shine.

      • Secret squirrel says:

He also painted a mural of naked Kim last year.

      • Naya says:

Well, we know she had instagram suspending accounts of people who merely sent her snake emojis as multiple journalist in this link discovered.. http://www.refinery29.com/2016/07/117265/leslie-jones-twitter-taylor-swift-instagram-censoring

Just a snake emoji was enough to get you suspended. She clearly threw her weight around with instagram for them dedicate staff to censor her detractors rather than deal with the actual racist, sexist, islamaphobic, fatphobic etc content that thrives on that platform.

That woman would slit her own mothers throat to block criticism. She threatened him and good for him for not backing down.

      • Aren says:

@Naya, this seriously disgusts me. It is because she’s rich, famous, white???? It’s very worrying that Instagram is giving her a special treatment, while some serious threats go unattended.

      • Little Darling says:

@Aran I don’t think that it’s because she’s white. She’s rich and famous and has an agressive team of lawyers and an aggressive stance on her image and she is VERY successful. That alone is enough to have this major pull. I think any star who dedicated as much time to crafting this empire could shut things down in such a fashion when they want to, I don’t think that’s only relegated to white females. Like, rappers, divas etc. We don’t normally hear about stars being this aggressive, and litigious..not sure because they aren’t or they’re better at keeping it quiet.

      • Jess says:

        @Naya,

“That woman would slit her own mothers throat to block criticism.”

I’m sorry but that imagery is very, VERY ugly (and possibly triggering for some people). Her mom was diagnosed with cancer last year so I’m not sure why you’d drag her mom into this disgusting comment where you’re insinuating she’d kill her own mother. It’s not funny or cute.

The gross overreaction to this drama is veering into some disgusting territory. Everyone, (including TS fans) need to chill and stop making such dumb hyperbolic comments.

    • Noname says:

I don’t think her team is responding to this at all, I think this guy is making this up to gain attention for his work.

      • toni says:

Sure, because Barbie doesn’t have a history of suing people who dare to oppose, expose or make fun of her.

      • Lbliss says:

@ NAYA – if you can’t do snake emojis on her Instagram page, what about all the bey hives bees? F tswift. And f Instagram for catering to her instead of blatant racism first!!!

      • Jegede says:

        @Noname

I agree. And the NYDN write up confirms that for me.

      • Noname says:

@ toni- She had to have a legal argument to sue, there is none here.

      • Ican't says:

        @ Noname

It’s not about suing, it the threat of being sued. It’s a scare tactic to get him to take down the mural stunts like this are used all the time, think big corporations against Mom & Pop shop.

      • LadyLoo says:

Agreed, Toni. If it looks like a litigious TS, and issues C&D letters like a litigious TS, then it’s probably a litigious TS.

Also +1 Ican’t post. She sends her lawyers after people. Anyone remember the IG fox story?

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

But the question is CAN she let this go?

When paint comes to murals this might be the moment we realize Taylor CAN’T just let things go and relax, she can’t stand a moment where opinion of her is shaped by people who she doesn’t have under her total control.

      • OhDear says:

IMO, this particular siccing of the lawyers is her trying to control something while her world/image is going out of control.

      • Sixer says:

Just to acknowledge “when paint comes to murals” as phrase of the day!

  4. Jane says:

I actually got quite a chuckle out of this. It’s a nice accompaniment to my morning coffee!

  5. CornyBlue says:

Taylor has huge support within the conservative ranks. Not to say she is conservative herself but from a business standpoint it would make no sense for her to come out and support the Democrats.
Kanye had a mural of himself painted and then gave the artist around 100k to paint over it.
Guess it is pretty much established Taylor wont sue or wont have grounds to. Even if she does the public have heard it and nothing will erase it from their memory. As Skai Jackson said , Take your L.

    • Wren says:

I think it’s that being political simply doesn’t fit her aw shucks I’m just an innocent girl image. She’s sanatized to the max, and taking any sort of political stance would sully that and open her up to (more) criticism. And then there’s the whole not wanting to alienate any fans thing too.

Taylor is perfect, safe, and sterile. That image does not go with politics.

    • We Are All Made Of Stars says:

Well if my memory serves me correctly, she began her country career waaaaay back in the day supporting Republican politicians by allowing them to set up tables and what have you at her concerts. She then of course became a Kennedy Democrat when that suited her ambitions later on in life. Swift the Switch Hitter is the ultimate politician.

    • JenniferJustice says:

Occam’s razor would have us believe she stays quiet simply because she has no stance as she’s not informed.

  6. Green Is Good says:

Swifty really has NO sense of humor. How big is that stick up her tailpipe?

  7. shelly says:

If I could be bothered I’d sign up the domain name Taylor Smith, and then allow the graffiti artist free reign to do as he liked with @Taylorsmith.

  8. Jegede says:

This guy is being really evasive about this email he received.

I can 100% believe Swift’s people are stupid enough to keep stoking fries and sent him one.

But, but, I can also 100% believe he’s not being fully honest on this, in exchange for some controversy or notoriety.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Considering he claimed to have received the email in one of his first interviews about the mural, which was within a day of it going up, I’m a bit skeptical too.

      • I Choose Me says:

Me three. I mean I ‘m here for the takedown of Ms. Swifty but I like facts tyvm. There’s enough fodder for the fire without making stuff up.

  9. MI6 says:

This artist is mad talented. Rock on, LushSux!

  10. Pegacorn says:

Not a Taytay fan. But i really doubt she’s the brains behind this. It’s probably her management ordering the lawyers to go on a sue-ing spree.

  11. pretty says:

Taylor’s people are busy deleting every negative comments on her Insta. Not just snake emojis but they delete everything negative. I think they’re on standby 24/7 because the last time i checked was like 8 hours ago and now i just checked again and they’re still deleting all the fresh negative comments. bhahaah if you want some proof, just compare, for example, Kylie Jenner’s instagram and taylor’s instagram.. comments on kylie’s show up in bulk and if you click (on desktop) ‘load more comments’, the comments pop up in bulk again on kylies but on taylor’s, comments load very few because most of them got deleted. lol

    • jinx says:

lol probs! that reminds me of a south park episode – The obese kid Cartman felt all fancy and proud of himself one day, and decided to upload a vid of him dancing/singing to his youtube channel. Low and behold, an internet troll left a negative comment and it shattered Cartman’s ego. He went to school all sad and weepy and useless, so principle PC ordered the subservient character named Butters to delete all negative comments thus making Cartman happy once again. The comparison between that episode and what’s going down with TS is uncanny to say the least.

      • Wren says:

Ah yes the Safe Space episode. It’s exactly like that, isn’t it? That season of South Park was really good, but it made me pretty uncomfortable because it was a little too much like reality.

    • LadyLoo says:

I loved that episode too. IG and twitter ARE NOT safe spaces for Tay right now. And no amount of bleaching and scouring by her PR people will change that. She needs to learn how to ignore and grow some thicker skin.

  12. Div says:

Her lawyer isn’t stupid and I doubt he or she tried to get this taken down. There is no law that would allow them do so, especially with the Smith instead of the Swift. My guess is the artist is saying that for publicity.

She can afford good lawyers (and a good publicist) who are probably advising her against pressing charges. She may have a case but it would be a long, drawn out legal battle against Kimye. I wonder if she’ll listen to them though.

    • Pegacorn says:

Yes, this is really just PR for the artist.

People are desperate to milk the TayTayTrain because aside from IG post and the lawyers & publicists doing their work, Taylor hasn’t really said anything directly.

    • Noname says:

I highly doubt Taylor’s lawyers threatened this street artist at all. He’s just looking for publicity.

    • cyn says:

Taylor does this all the time. She has her lawyers send letters hoping to scare people into compliance even when she knows that she isn’t going to follow through. It works on the little people a lot.

    • Alex says:

This is not the first time her lawyers have done this.

      • Noname says:

Just because this has happened before doesn’t mean it is happening now.

      • Alex says:

No but typically a pattern makes people believe that its beyond possible

      • Noname says:

True, I am just a bit suspicious about this artist’s claims at the moment. I am a lawyer that lives with an artist and if I thought an artist was doing something that infringed on my client’s trademark, business, etc, I’d send him a letter, not e-mail. E-mail is just not professional enough for me, not for threatening legal action (although I have seen it done) Her lawyers wrote Kanye West a letter and just about everyone else that was threatened, why change the pattern now?

    • LadyLoo says:

The Taylor Smith thing doesn’t get him off the hook. That’s obviously TS in the picture (you can tell by the awful hair), so her lawyers could have sent a C&D letter for using her image.

This, remember, is a woman who wanted to trademark words like ‘Blankspace’ and ‘Swiftmus’ along with trademarking the year ‘1989.’

No, she’s not at all overprotective of her name and brand!!

  13. Betti says:

How typical of Tliar – picking on the little people. Girl needs to get a sense of humour. The bullying tag is only going to get even bigger with stunts like this – plus the continued threats to Kimye via TMZ about going to sue them. Kim must be shaking in her Manola’s – at least Kim has the guts to follow throw. TLiar has yet to follow throu with her legal threats but maybe thats because she hasn’t got a chance of winning.

On something more newsworthy – at least Pistorius’s sentence is being appealed against. Maybe they’ll get a judge who is not biased to the poor white rich disabled athlete who is also a bare faced liar. Maybe he and Taylor can be new besties.

  14. Lauren says:

Oh sweet dear Taylor calm the f-down! You are a celebrity, not everyone will or has to like you either you grow some thick skin or you retire to Antartica.

  15. InvaderTak says:

That Daily Beast article is completely asinine; moreso than the “nothing burger” one that one of the Fug girls wrote about Katy Perry. “Despite her stated support for women’s causes, Swift has yet to publicly endorse Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign” So of course, therefore, she is a Trump supporter! Join or die! Shout your political standpoint from the rooftops whether you like it or not! Otherwise the self appointed politics police will brand you an undesirable person! That article is awful and embarrassing. That writer is about as mature about politics and people as Swift is about romance. I can’t even talk about the artist thing I’m so mad; if that had appeared on Tumblr it would have gotten a ‘whatever’ but that’s supposedly a ‘serious’ news/opinion site. I don’t talk politics except with people I know IRL. Wonder how many people like that writer think I’m a Trump supporter now. Some people just don’t want to talk politics. Assuming anything about how they think is wrong. It’s worse than wrong but I can’t think up any words right now. /rant.

    • K.C. says:

Ew, that’s gross. Some celebrities (smartly) don’t talk about their politics. People complain when celebrities are so bold as to state their social/political opinions, and get just as annoyed when they stay silent. There’s no winning.

    • honeybee blues says:

Let me unpack it for you: She claims to be a feminist, when convenient, and yet remains silent on all things women related. Trump is a huge danger to my gender and our rights, so yes, if one wants to claim feminism, then do so properly, not just to get your arse out of tight PR situations (Do the names Tina and Amy ring a bell?). So yes, it IS an important detail about her true motivations and philosophies. Very much so. I personally don’t think she has the intellect to be aware of what is going on beyond her insular world, and would vote for or endorse whoever he team told her to, or, in this case, not at all. If she choses to be apolitical, fine, but then she needs to keep her narrow ass out of the feminism end of the pool. She has no place there. Those seats are earned.

      • InvaderTak says:

You missed my point. I’m mad that the writer made massive assumptions about TS’ political opinions and who she supports based on Katy Perry’s actions and KK’s boyfriend. Just because Lena Dunham came out in support of HRC doesn’t mean for an instant that TS “should” as well. That’s wrong and gross. We’ve discussed TS’s use of feminism ad nauseum; that’s not my gripe RN. If Swift were to come out and endorse HRC that wouldn’t change the way she’s used it in the past, in fact people would probably just say she’s trying to make up for the crap she’s said previously. It ticked me off because it hits home for me as I’m not very vocal IRL about politics. That doesn’t give people the right to assume things about the way I think or use irrelevant evidence to come to conclusions about my opinions.
“And while Swift will hopefully end up voting for Hillary, in another way, a Swift-Trump alliance feels so wrong it’s right. ” This is gross.

      • Maria says:

have you publicly denounced every terrible political movement? if not should i assume you actually support the holocaust, slavery secretly?

that line of thinking is right now popular in Turkey.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

I don’t much care what the girl supports politically but I think you’re going to see a lot of examination of things she’s said and done (and not said and done) in articles for a while.

The one thing that phone call showed is that things don’t just happen to poor Taylor and she just struggles through them like a survivor. She’s quite aware of what world perception is and she chooses every single action carefully.

I think there’s going to be a lot of questions asked and articles written about why only when poor Taylor was getting called out online did any of her friends suddenly invoke Black Lives Matter, Selena Gomez even went so far as to say she refuses to choose a ‘side’. Till today Twitter and Instagram are in high gear banning accounts that post snake emojis (a calm response that surely won’t stoke the fires of further dislike of her) and we’re all one Google link away from reading about the Etsy sellers she sued but not a word on major serious issues. Feminism in a bottle, all about squads and Fourth of July photo shoots.

    • Maria says:

i agree. also what a weak article. saying Taylor is a feminist then showing that taylor really isnt a feminist and then saying as a feminist you must support a woman who wants to be president because the gender counts more than anything else.

at least she calls out Taylor for her meminism. Taylor does not care for the rights of all women, ridiculous. she has never. she uses feminist buzzwords to try to protect herself and to paint herself the victim. And then wants other women to not make jokes about her because they are women while bashing other women…

im also very upset about this “you must declare yourself to be on our side or you are against us” line of thinking thats so widespread in american politics.

and then even invoke her friends and say they should have influenced her or made sure she votes for the “right” candidate” wtf?

    • Miss Jupitero says:

If she doesn’t want to be political, I am fine with that. Not everyone cares or feels comfortable with these issues. I get it.

But if that is the way she wants to be, she does NOT get to wave the “feminism” flag as a convenience, to gain an advantage, or as a way of silencing someone else.

Be a feminist or don’t, but please stop insulting the rest of us.

  16. K.C. says:

Can anyone tell me what the point of writing “Smith” instead of “Swift” is when the face is her exact likeness? If they were trying to avoid getting in legal trouble, I don’t see how switching the last name helps when there’s a mural accompanying it.

    • honeybee blues says:

Because T. Swift is not dead, and even though artist are protected by satire laws, he doubtless knows her team’s rep for litigation. I would have done the same, even though I would be well within my legal rights to use Swift.

      • Noname says:

He didn’t even know what songs she sees so I doubt he knows her team’s reputation.

    • Maire3 says:

Yesterday, I mentioned that it reminded me of the “Bye Felicia” meme

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Yeah I also think there’s a level of “You’re basic” shade thrown in there by dubbing her Taylor Smith.

    • Deedee says:

I took it to mean that nobody will remember her name.

    • PaschaP says:

Maybe the artist switched the ‘Swift’ surname to avoid being sued by Taylor/her graphic designer? If you do a google search of ‘Taylor Swift album covers’ you’ll see many of her early albums and singles use the exact same typography.

    • JenniferJustice says:

      Smith = forgettable.

Apologies to all the real Smiths out there. You are not forgettable.

  17. Bee says:

If the girl was smart she’d fly herself to Melbourne and pose in front of this. Her and her lawyers need to take a seat. Life is not one big litigation.

The same artist also did a large Kim K mural which was subsequently “defaced” with the word SLUT:

That’s a great idea Bee! She could even grab her guitar and busk in front of the mural to Pearl Jam’s Alive – I’d pay to see that actually!

  18. teatimeiscoming says:

She really knows how to make friends and influence people. /s

  19. guesto says:

Re the email, if it didn’t happen and this is just him looking for a bit more attention, then surely Team TS will respond with a denial since it makes them look even more ridiculously petty and humourless than they already look? Control freaks can’t not control.

Unless they deny it, I’m going to assume he’s telling the truth.

  20. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

If this is gonna be Taylor’s response to this whole issue then I’d say I can see why Kim waited to show the video.

You really only have to give Taylor an inch of rope and she’ll find a way to get a mile, double-knot herself, knit it into a sweater and then hang herself with it.

It’s like when we found out Martha Stewart was a bitch, but Martha rolled with it and didn’t mind the change in world perception. Taylor however is clearly devastated by the change in people’s opinion of her. Banning and deleting people who post the snake emoji is beyond stupid, those people won’t forget and will just take their dislike of her even further and more publicly.

Swift is gonna turn this into a slow agony.

    • Maire3 says:

I’m googling this right now to confirm, but was the emoji ban only for her Instagram account, or did they write the code for ALL account holders?

      • Naya says:

Just her account which is why people doubt it was an algorithm. It looks like they dedicated a staff member to just keeping her account pristine. They were even at one point handing out temporary bans for sending HER a snake emoji.

    • Little Darling says:

The knit sweater comment was amazing. AMAZING.

It’s going to be a slow burn for sure with this one. Personal growth is a tough thing, looking at yourself, your truest behaviors, sucks. That is the kind of humility she needs to have, and needed to have immediately after this all came out, or even before this came out. IF she’s just staying quiet and trying to scrape clean any negativity towards her brand imprint, this isn’t going anywhere. If she’s with her team trying to “craft” her next steps, it’s likely not going anywhere. Basically if she’s doing anything other than coming from a place in her heart to just admit what happened happened, it’s not going anywhere.

    • holly hobby says:

Martha owned it! Missy should learn a few things from Martha!

  21. Whatabout says:

I’m curious doesn’t Tom need to be in San Diego for comicon this Saturday? So he’s probably already left Australia, right?

    • Lilacflowers says:

Probably flying tonight or tomorrow unless he had some other business reason to be in Los Angeles. They tend to schedule travel very tightly around SDCC, especially when filming is going on. Last year, he arrived the morning of his appearance. Saturday is movie day. He is announced for Kong. Marvel hasn’t announced its lineup so he might be there for Thor too.

      • Whatabout says:

Thanks! When thinking of travel I always compare to what my lazy butt would do. Which is get there early and take a few naps.

  22. A says:

I hope Tayliar is privately crying bitter tears of defeat. She is like the bully who finally got spat on the face at the playground.

    • Jenalle says:

exactly! the more i think about it, this isn’t about the glee over someone’s downfall; it’s really about the long history of pettiness and unkindness on which she built her career . as much as kimye are not my favorite people, i am uncomfortable with the fact that she was ok with him getting skewered for harassing her again. the real loser is tom. rest in peace to the erudite, eloquent gentleman …his best acting ever.

  23. shelly says:

She should embrace the “scandal”, if you can call it that.

She finally has a chance to show the World she is grown up, human and makes mistakes just like everyone else. I would have a snake tattoo on my arm if I were her (well maybe a temporary one)
Then I’d hunker down with my boyfriend and start enjoying all the trappings of wealth, health and youth.

    • K.C. says:

Totally agree. This is her opportunity to embrace the fact that her fans can now see her as a more fallible person. In the long-run, this is a good thing. If she is able to take steps moving forward that roll with it, rather than against it.

    • Flowerchild says:

That’s not showing the she a grown up that’s just as childish.

She should shut up, which mean no leaking stuff through her PR team, no having her friends talk for her, no Instagram, no tweets and apologize in private. Not to mention go away for awhile and take a big long look at herself.

    • popup says:

Haha! She should definitely take this mural and post it on Instagram with the comment “RIP me.”

  24. saltandpepper says:

I’m actually starting to think all of this is one HUGE PR stunt and that Loki was briefed about it beforehand. I think he’s well aware of what’s going on. He’s not going to leave her, he’s played along right from the beginning. This is a well-orchestrated event. Sued her guitar teacher? She’s not well.

    • jammypants says:

If all this stuff is news to me as a fan, I can only imagine some of the tay-cray train is news to him too.

  25. Veronica says:

I want to see this email because it seems like a surprisingly tone deaf response from a PR perspective.

    • Flowerchild says:

I’ve noticed that every time someone says they want to see the evidence, in actuality they don’t. When Ben Affleck cheated and people wanted proof the nanny showed it, she was called every name in the book. His fans said it was a setup, it’s not good enough ex…. Same happened with Amber Heard, Kim K in this situation and so on.

I’m leaning towards believe this because Taylor lawyers will sue her fans for using her likeness in etsy merchandise, banning her guitar teacher from saying her name, she sent a C&D letter to Kim/Kanye to destroy the recording, She’s threatened fans with C&Ds letters and gotten a girl’s wedding video taken down because their first dance was to a TS song ex…. This is not out of realm of being unbelievable for Taylor.

      • Guesto says:

Agree, Flowerchild. And as I said above, IF the guy is lying for a bit of extra attention, then surely there’ll be a denial from the control freaks at TeamTS HQ?

      • Aren says:

Very good points Flowerchild. There’s already a lot of evidence that all people involved (Taylor, Kanye, Kim) are horrible, yet everybody makes excuses.

      • Flowerchild says:

        @ Aren

Exactly Taylor lie about something so stupid and insignificant and couldn’t help, but make herself a victim by throwing Kanye under the bus. Does that make Kanye song any better no, does that mean they aren’t attention seekers no. Like you said they are all horrible, who use people for their own gain.

  26. Margo S. says:

I feel like he can keep it up because of parody laws. I assume Australia has them too. Basically you can blatantly copy someone’s likeness if it’s a parody. Hahaha, she is so over. The Internet does wonders.

  27. me says:

Ok this is just getting ridiculous. Taylor is not a rapist or murderer. Kim is a liar too and has been caught in many lies. She’s also a snake that used to sell stories to TMZ about Paris Hilton back in the day. How is she any better? Kim and her family drag down EVERY man they have ever dated. I think this is all crazy. So what if Taylor has blonde hair? Kim has had blonde hair too. Just remember neither Taylor, nor Kim, nor Kanye are innocent in any of this. They all suck.

    • Ican't says:

No one is saying any different. Kim and Kanye aren’t rapist or murderers ether doesn’t mean we can’t call them out of their BS when they are caught in a lie.

I fun it funny that Kim/ family and Kanye have had years of this type of scrutiny from the media and public plotting their down fall while taking joy in it and no one says a thing.

Yet poor Taylor is getting a 5th of this type of scrutiny and her fan/supporters are freaking out saying it’s ridiculous.

I won’t even touch your blond hair comment😒

      • me says:

We are all allowed to have different opinions aren’t we? If you read my last line, I said they ALL suck. None are innocent here.

      • Noname says:

@I can’t- I’ve been reading the comments to Taylor Swift all week and I can honestly say that the scrutiny is higher than what you think is. And the level of hate directed at Taylor is off the charts. Is she perfect? No. Did she lie? Yes. Does she deserve to be crucified for it? NO!

      • Ican't says:

        @Noname

So have I and the scrutiny is not higher then I think. Your looking at it from a fan/supporter point if view so of course in your eyes it’s ten times worst then what it is. The so called “hate” level is not off the charts again you may think that because you are use to mostly positive thing being said about her so in comparison you might thinks it’s too much.

This is not on the Tom Brady, Ben/Jen, Tom Cruise/ Katie, John Travolta, Bill Cosby, kardashian, Duggar, Kanye West, Johnny/Amber and so and so forth type scandle level far from it.

This more on the Gisele/Reese Witherspoon level. They were called out for being hypocrites, people got to see who they truly are and had to eat crow for a week or two. Then the media moved on to the next scandal/drama.

Should Taylor be scrutinize for it? Yes and it’s not just about the lies.

      • Noname says:

@ Ican’t- I’m not a fan. Not even close. I am just not into dragging anyone unless their actions meet it. Johnny Depp? Yes. Alec Baldwin? Yes. Charlie Sheen? Yes. People that abuse children? Yes. Animals? Yes. I don’t even drag Kim Kardashian or Kanye West. I have even defended Kim for posting nude selfies and when others get on here to make disgusting comments about her body.. so it’s more of the fact I am not into dragging another person unless they have no redeeming qualities in my eyes. I’m sorry writing songs about your exes and people who did you wrong does not rise to my level of what needs to scrutinized.. not when we have the Donald Trumps of the world to worry about, a failed coup in Turkey, cops being killed, blacks being killed.

I’m sorry but when someone comments on here that Taylor would slit her own mother’s throat to block criticism.. it’s a bit much. That’s going to far. So yeah, I do see it being over the top.

      • LadyLoo says:

If people in the TS stories feel like she’s getting more stick for her actions than Johnny Depp or Trump or whoever else, please feel free to pop over to those stories and address the imbalance.

The simple fact is: she deserves criticism. She lied, she made public accusations against a fellow artist in her Grammy speech, she threatened legal action over a tape that proved her to be a liar, she’s constantly played the victim card while being far from an actual victim. She deserves criticism for these actions. And it is up to each individual commenter to gauge the severity of her transgressions and decide on the severity of their own criticism. Other people don’t get to tell me how much or little criticism TS deserves. That’s my decision.

Noname, give over. This is called The Selena Defense. Yes, there are terrible things going on in the world, and no, TS has not staged a coup, or killed cops, or beat her wife. That doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to call her out for the mistakes she has made.

      • Noname says:

@Ladyloo- I didn’t say she shouldn’t be criticized. However her actions don’t compare to Johnny Depp &others I’ve mentioned I have commented on those posts, by the way. You, on the other hand, only pop up on TS posts.

    • pk says:

I agree with you me! The blonde comments are getting old. Apparently its ok to “blonde shame” around here.

  28. MI6 says:

TayTay did an interview where she stated she was terrified and “freaked out” by the idea of wiretapping. What in God’s name are you saying that you have to be that paranoid about being recorded?
    No wonder she’s lawsuit-happy.

    • Lilacflowers says:

That was the rationalization used to support the telephone data collection and wiretapping provisions of the PATRIOT ACT.

Recording conversations without telling people is creepy and unethical and everyone has the right to be freaked out over it.

      • MI6 says:

Yeah, Lilac, but she’s not on any terror watch lists that I know of.
It’s odd for a pop star to be that concerned about being recorded. It’s not like she’s hiding military secrets or anything.
Maybe Kanye knew about her history of lawsuits and suspected she might go back on her word, so he taped it?
And legal experts opine that conversation was not recorded illegally because it was able to be overheard on speakerphone, so no laws were broken.
People who have something to hide are the ones who generally fear being exposed, that’s all I’m saying.

      • Noname says:

@ M16- What legal experts are opining this? It becomes murky but to automatically jump the conclusion that no laws were broken is a bit of a stretch.

I’m sorry I find it creepy and consider it to be unethical of Kanye, he should have told her she was a) on speakerphone and b) was recording the conversation.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@MI6, many states have laws requiring that you must tell a person you have them on speaker phone and tell them who is in the room listening.

      • Noname says:

@Lilacflowers- good point. Too many people on here are too excited that Taylor has been taken down (or so they think) that they are forgetting that at the very least Kanye was unethical in his actions. I kind of think this was premeditated but then every TS hater will come out of the woodwork and accuse me of trying to paint her as a victim.

It’s funny, how is she not a victim here? Outside of Kanye crashing her acceptance speech at the VMAs, this is the second time I think she was actually a victim. More by Kim Kardashian than Kanye West because I truly believed he never wanted to drop this video.

She’s a flawed human being and she’s her own worst enemy here, she should have handled this differently and yes, she lied. But so does Kim K, (and on a daily basis), and Kanye… everyone lies. We all make mistakes. However, it seems Taylor is held to a different standard. Is that her own doing? Maybe. I still find it creepy and unethical Kanye not only recorded the conversation and had her on speakerphone but never told her.

      • lilacflowers says:

@NoName, she is a manipulative brat. He is a misogynistic jerk. He did a bad thing to her. She has done a bad thing to him. They’re now even and they should end it and leave the rest of the world alone. As for his wife, this is all about ratings for her, nothing more.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Yeah that stuck out as bizarre to me too.

Hacking? Sure. Some hotel employee relaying her secrets? Okay.

Wiretapping? Wtf? It makes it sound like she’s really quite…cruel in private for that specifically to be a concern of hers. Like she knows if the world ever heard the ‘real’ her it’d be over.

      • MI6 says:

        Exactly my point.
check out Lainey today on TayTay In the Press.
Very interesting. She’s a mean girl with them, too.

      • popup says:

Lainey also says that being a “mean girl” with the press is very common among celebrities, who want a say in what gets discussed during interviews and junkets. That’s not anything new or unique to Taylor.

As for wiretapping and secret recordings, I don’t get the skepticism being expressed here. Does not everyone remember what happened with that Beyonce elevator video? When you’re THAT famous, you’re vulnerable to people taking a secret recording of you and exposing it to the public during your most vulnerable moments. See wiretapping scandal from Britain’s News of the World, in which Prince Williams, Jude Law, Sienna Miller, J.K. Rowling, among others, got secretly recorded, with private conversations being spun into gossip stories for the public’s ravenous feasting.

Maybe this says something about Tay’s victim persona, but it’s not actually an unreasonable fear.

      • Noname says:

@M16- Lainey also stated it’s nothing new or unique to Taylor,

@popup- I am not understanding the skepticism here either. Everyone commenting on these posts would have a huge problem if someone recorded them and then dropped it on the internet. I wish everyone would stop pretending that it’s not a big deal when it is. Not to mention a violation of California law.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        @popup

But that wasn’t a secret recording. Celebrity or no when you get into a brawl in the elevator of a public hotel there’s a good chance the video’s going to end up seen by many many people.

The reality is that heat of the moment or not Bey and crew did something wrong and the video was hotel property. Wiretapping however is a crime, it is an invasion of privacy the same way being a peeping tom is. It’s quite different for me to hear someone go, “Wow I hope someone doesn’t see me during a bad moment and release the tape (Beyonce) vs. Wow I hope someone doesn’t tap my phones and release the private things I talk about”

Because at least in this example when the private conversation was released it showed her as manipulative and conniving. Saying one thing in private and then publicly lying and throwing someone under the bus. In Taylor’s case it’s not about unfounded fears since her own real-world example happened. It’s about the wool being pulled back on the sheep to reveal a wolf.

      • joanne says:

i would never want my private conversations published. people say things PRIVATELY that they would not publicly. have you never in your life said something that would embarrass you if overheard. if you say no, i would give you a side eye.

    • MI6 says:

@Popup: You’re right. It isn’t an unreasonable fear.
      For her.

      • MI6 says:

@Noname: check out TMZ’s coverage on the story. And the fact that Taylor’s people havent filed a police report is pretty telling. She has no case.
Besides, don’t you think Mama Kardashian would’ve made sure they were bulletproof before they launched this grenade?

    • LadyLoo says:

“What in God’s name are you saying that you have to be that paranoid about being recorded?”

      Lies.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        Ding ding ding ding ding!

      • Bonzo says:

My thoughts exactly. It’s quite possible to guard one’s words well enough that if broadcast around the world, it wouldn’t cause humiliation. It starts with being a truly kind person since what you think eventually spills out in something you say.

  29. Seriously? Taylor is such a narcissistic, control freak she thinks that free speech and someone having a funny, unpraising, opinion of her should be silenced or she’ll sue. She makes herself look worse and worse with every obsessive, irrational, image-controlled, action she tries to take. If you have to put this much thought and action into doing damage control on what people think of you then clearly your image must be a big, fat, phony one. What a nutcase.

    • MI6 says:

      ^ This.

    • LadyLoo says:

‘…free speech and someone having a funny, unpraising, opinion…’ People who do this are not only breaking the law, they’re also misogynistic, sexist, trying to claim credit for her success, and are just MEAN. Welcome to Taylor Swift Town, population: 1 very important, precious snowflake.

  30. Joanna says:

I truly believe Kim and Kanye knew that Taylor would seek legal action after the Snapchat videos and just do not care whether that happens or not. Unveiling Taylor’s deceitfulness is what they wanted.
And I wouldn’t be surprised AT ALL if Swift was a Trump supporter.

    • Aren says:

She probably only supports herself. I wouldn’t be surprised if she eventually wants to become president only to seek revenge on the Kennedy boy.

    • Lady D says:

Maybe one day someone will return the favour and unveil all of KK’s deceitful actions.

  31. Angel says:

    She’s beginning to look unhinged.

  32. iheartgossip says:

This special snowflake needs to stop already. Nobody is this important, especially Taylor.

  33. Pantalones en fuego says:

I am enjoying this way more than I should as a grown woman.

  34. Annieb says:

I wonder what the celeb world would look like if they didn’t have PR people and lawyers advising their every move.

It’s scaring me a bit how much I’ve been following this story after TS’s break-up and her new romance. I don’t know who the guy from this interview is, but this sounded interesting:

“When Chloe asked if he’d seen Taylor in LA, he replied: ‘I went to Gigi Hadid’s birthday so we were all hanging out there. It was really weird because she was talking to me a lot about Calvin [Harris] and then a week later she was with Tom Hiddleston!'”

    http://www.reveal.co.uk/showbiz-celeb-gossip/news/a689688/towies-vas-j-morgan-says-taylor-swift-told-him-all-about-calvin-harris-just-a-week-before-split.html

Now I’m curious as to when she (or more likely her team) decided to pursue a relationship with Tom H.

  35. Piper says:

I think that if you’re superstitious at all, this might be a little spooky. I wouldn’t want it there. I don’t hate Taylor like most on this page. I also am glad that she hasn’t endorsed anyone, because it actually annoys me when celebrities endorse candidates. There votes aren’t anymore important than ours as private citizens, and for the most part, the laws don’t effect rich celebrities the same way they do us. Kind of like when Leo flies all his private jets across the world to lecture us on our carbon footprint. If Taylor did endorse Hillary, everyone would be screaming that she’s just trying to insert herself into politics and steal the limelight from Hillary or Katy perry…. Or maybe Taylor actually thinks both candidates kind of suck, so she’s not endorsing anyone. (Everyone applauded Ted Cruz for not endorsing Trump and standing by his convictions)

  36. Miss Jupitero says:

    I <3 Lainey: http://www.laineygossip.com/How-will-those-who-are-no-longer-enthusiastic-about-Taylor-Swift-be-punished-when-its-time-for-her-to-release-new-music/44453

"Taylor’s been deep underground since Gossip Christmas happened. Amazing how good she is at concealing herself when she wants to, non?"

    • MI6 says:

      Love it

    • popup says:

Yessss. I think Lainey’s analysis of Tay is so good. And Lainey enjoys a good bitch. Wonder if Tay would take offense at that. Probably would but she should consider changing her mind about that.

    • Bonzo says:

I was just about to comment on Lainey’s piece today. I had read that article by the journo that got shut out for giving a less-than-stellar review of Taylor’s show and couldn’t find it yesterday to repost. I loved her questions at the end:

“This week more and more entertainment outlets have been given a pass to write less enthusiastically about Taylor Swift. So many, in fact, that if she’s keeping a list – OF COURSE SHE’S KEEPING A LIST, like a burn book – and it’s probably pretty long. How will that look when it’s time for her to release new music? How will those people be punished? Will they be punished?”

      • Llamas says:

She shuts down people who don’t giver her good reviews? She’s a scary person. She’d do better leading Soviet Russia.

      • Ican't says:

I have to laugh at Lainey saying how Taylor might punish people. Lol
she is not that powerful and it’s not the mob. She so over dramatic with her analysis 😂😂😂

        @LLAMA

Not really it more like she has her people go to the executives and promise exclusive interviews/pictures if they have the writers take down negative reviews.

      • Annieb says:

“Not really it more like she has her people go to the executives and promise exclusive interviews/pictures if they have the writers take down negative reviews.”

        That’s basically censorship.

I don’t understand why her people are so controlling and sensitive to any kind of criticism. I can see why she would be affected by negative opinions of herself or her work (I assume most people in her position would be), but her team should help her deal with it and take it in stride instead of doing whatever they are doing even these days.

        She should just relax.

      • Ican't says:

        @ ANNIB

True, but not uncommon, Kardashians have the same type of deal with People Magazine. In favor of People not printing/posting negative write ups  the Kardashians give “People” exclusive interviews and pictures, same with the Duggers remember the all positive articles coming from People Magazine. Now the Kardashians go one step further  with the “Daily Fail” where they are actually in business together. Nothing is written about the K family on that site without their approval.

Even celebrities like Kristen Bell has done something similar. In favor of “Just Jared” not post kid photo on that site. She promised exclusive from her and I’m sure her celebrity friends as well. “Just Jared” gotten exclusive interviews from Kristen, gotten invited to her photo shoots and in the recording studio with her.

I bet The hiddiot likes being punished by miss taylorsnake. Those english public schoolboys

  37. MI6 says:

Also worth checking out Jordan Vogt Roberts’ Twitter re. plagiarism and the TS Apple campaign…
    “welp…shit.”
    Yup.
A joke about the 800 lb gorilla in the room seems a bit obvious…

    • Lilacflowers says:

His whole series of tweets on that needs to be read because he clarifies that his point is directed at the corporate people who produced the video and not the artists in the video, after a deluge of tweets from pro and anti Swift contingents. He then directs a highly critical tweet at Kanye, not having to do with this mess but about intellectual property and plagiarism

The whole mess of irrelevant and nasty stuff directed at him demonstrates that just because people can respond to a celebrity’s tweet, they shouldn’t do so just to stir things up.

      • Dara says:

In advocating for a friend, he inadvertently threw the girlfriend of his star – the guy he has to sit next to in a few days – under the plagiarism bus. After he snarked at nameless corporate SOB’s who steal ideas without compunction, someone directed him to an interview that said there was no ad agency involved in that particular campaign, that “Taylor came to [Apple Music] with an idea, and I [Apple Music’s head of content] protected it for dear life, because it’s that good.” Oops…

Sometimes Twitter serves up a gem amidst the garbage, and I agree with his “welp…shit” assessment.
        http://www.fastcocreate.com/3059033/why-the-new-taylor-swift-apple-spot-isnt-a-toothpaste-ad

      • MI6 says:

…and then it was pointed out that she developed the creative…hence the embarrassed reaction.
        Well done, Dara.

      • Jenalle says:

It is worth noting that the NPR interview with the artist that Kanye was inspired by is so shockingly sweet. This guys loves and respects Kanye more than anyone in the world. He is very gracious (the artist) and said that Kanye floored him. So, it is BS to say that Kanye violated copyright law. I think he is backtracking to appease Tom b/c he realized what it looks like.

  38. Chels says:

I miss when we would get new cheesy romance novel cover photos of Taylorsnake and the hiddiot every day. Those were the days! Sadface.

Wow. I’m kind of bummed that the article came out months ago, I think the author should update it for recent events, because I think a lot more people would read it now than they would have done in March.

Honestly, I think I’m so bitter about TSwift because I totally bought her act. I used to not like her because I disliked a lot of things she wrote (Especially “Better than Revenge”) but then when she reinvented herself, I definitely thought she had matured as a person, and I liked that she was a feminist and had a group of girl friends that she supported. But then I started feeling like it was starting to get contrived and that her #squad was more of a PR stunt than anything else and then the whole thing with the VMAs and Nicki Minaj started really making me question why I was a fan. And now with the attempt to toss Lange under the bus… God, she’s terrible.

It’s quite enlightening about the writer too.
