IKEEZY: Kanye West really wants to collaborate with IKEA on dorm furniture

Kanye West spoke to BBC Radio One yesterday about all of his Kanye things and all of his Kanye ideas. It’s funny to me that people are like “classic crazy Kanye” but how many times has Kanye been proven right this year? He was telling the truth about Taylor Swift. His Adidas collaboration is a huge success. The Life of Pablo is popular and he got several VMA nominations for the “Famous” video. Personally, I love a Kanye interview. He’s never dull. And I think the secret is going into read his quotes as he meant them – partly tongue-in-cheek. Some highlights:

Performing at Glastonbury last year to bad reviews: “It was incredible. I started off the show and I completely messed up the music. And me, as you can imagine by this phone call, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. So it really put me into a slightly depressed state and it put me back in the position of when I was in high school and I got fired from my job. I don’t usually get nervous, I prepare, I get fully prepared. When that music messed up in the beginning it tapped into my nerves and when you’re nervous or vulnerable something special and something different can happen.”

Presidential ambitions: “When I talk about the idea of being president, I’m not saying I have any political views. I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth. We are numb, we’re numb to 500 kids getting killed in Chicago a year, we’re numb to the fact that it was seven police shootings in the beginning of July. If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while I’m alive I’m going to try to do it.”

He wants to collaborate with IKEA: “I have to work with IKEA, make furniture for interior design, for architecture and I know that if I do a minimalist apartment inside of a college dorm where the TV goes on the side of the wall…Yo IKEA, allow Kanye to create. Allow him to make this thing because you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes – I want more products from Ye.”

Cooking his greens: “When my wife cooks for me I will always ask for greens and she never wants to cook the greens because they take three hours to cook.”

[From BBC]

I assume when he says “greens” he’s talking about collard greens, perhaps with ham or bacon and whatever? I’ve never cooked collard greens (a staple of Southern cooking) but I don’t think they take three hours? Although the first thing that popped up when I googled collard greens was Paula Deen’s recipe, which takes 2.5 hours. So maybe. I wouldn’t want to cook a side dish for 2.5 hours either, unless I was already cooking a large meal and I was going to be in the kitchen already. As for a ‘Ye + IKEA collab, I would be interested in seeing what he could come up with. I mean… wouldn’t you? I want to see the inexpensive rug designed by Kanye. I want to see his ‘Ye tchotchkes. Ooooh, they could call the collab IKEEZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, I just made myself laugh. IKEEZY needs to happen.

    Lol, Ikea, so random.

    • Tiffany says:

Random, yes. But I think they would be a good collaboration now that I say it out loud.

    • MCraw says:

Ikeezy. Kaiser, I love you. Maybe not as much as Kanye loves Kanye, but enough to keep me coming back every day for the last 5 years ❤️

This collab needs to happen. I’m throwing out so much stuff, this would be the prefect renewal.

And yes, Kanye has been right. He’s always been right. Idk how people get so mad when most of what he says is hilarious. Or is it because he’s rich? See, lol.

  2. jeanpierre says:

Ok now I’m all excited about this collab, someone please make this happen!
I too love Kanye’s interviews. To me he is the only US big star to be this genuine and unscripted, and he is a very clever man.

  3. HK9 says:

Nooooooooo! I have enough trouble putting that sh-t together. The last thing I need is Ikeezy furniture with a complementary rant from Kanye in the instructions.

    • Mia V. says:

Imma let you finish, but you need to fix part A to B first.

    • LadyMTL says:

LOL. Just last month I had to put together a ton of IKEA cabinets for my bathroom (doing it alone, mind you) and by the time I was done I was so tired and banged up that I was tempted to set it all on fire and walk away.

I cannot IMAGINE how convoluted and complicated any YeKea stuff would be, with or without any rants or asides about how much of a genius Ye is and how this new flat-pack furniture is the greatest of all time.

  4. Nev says:

I would love it too. Amazing.

  5. pikawho? says:

I want a Kanye West designed wardrobe with whatever funhouse mirror he and Kim look into before they leave the house.

  6. Jennifer says:

Awww. I have a lot of love for Yeezy. He’s talented, he tries to learn when he fucks up, he has no filter, and he genuinely loves his wife and daughter. Yes, he’s an egomaniac, but he OWNS it. Nobody is ever going to accuse him of false modesty or hiding his light under a bushel. More Kanye!

    • Jensies says:

Exactly this. I love him. I feel like with him, you get this real sense of vulnerability. Like he’s just trying to slog his way through it like everyone else. His fashion line is God awful but everything else is pretty brilliant.

  7. lizzie says:

if you want greens worth eating – it easily takes 2.5-3 hours

  8. swak says:

Did he really design the Yeezy’s or did he just approve of someone else’s design and put his name on it?

  9. Luca76 says:

He’s talented but I do think he’s lost the plot. I always believed him when it came to Taylor. But as they say even a broken clock is right twice a day.

  10. MrsBPitt says:

    Kim K: Like… what’s cooking??? I don’t understand!!!

  11. Lucy says:

For what it’s worth, I’ve always believed in Kanye’s love for all things art and design. Are his executions always perfect? No, but I think he’s legitimately passionate about all that. Of course, there’s also the money.

  12. Aiobhan says:

Now we know why Kim’s food pics always looks so dry and tasteless: she does not cook it or season it for the proper amount of time. Greens prep time is not long at all. You cut up the greens, put them in chicken stock or water and add your protein of choice (I use smoked turkey because I don’t really like ham). Put the heat on and then let it sit for three hours.. I love to cook though, so it seems more simple to me than someone who is only doing to make their partner happy or only eats to live.

The only issue I have with this interview is that line about not having political views. He says this and then goes on to state a political view. Political views are opinions. Our opinions are a part of who we are and connect us to one another, whether they are good or bad really depends on the effects they have on us as a whole.

Also, I really like ikea and would be interested in seeing what a collaboration with Kanye would look like.

  13. Denise says:

Ikea doesn’t make TVs Kanye. Could Swedes work with him? That would be an interesting reality show.

  14. vauvert says:

So trash clothing is not enough, now he wants to do trash furniture too? Maybe something that looks like the set of a zombie apocalypse movie, – torn doors, drawers hanging out with no knobs or handles, slashed mattresses…?
I know you love him Kaiser but how can you give him credit for anything other than being unmedicated after reading all his Twitter rants this year, ending with his Apple appeal to give Jay his check for that Tidal mess?
Famous is stil a disgusting video (and a bad song), his tweets are word salad, his “fashun” is still a disaster no matter how many people buy it – and let’s be honest, it is not the clothes that are selling, but the shoes. I don’t know about other people but after being an Adidas fan since childhood I won’t buy the brand anymore after they allowed Ye to put his name on it. Just because someone is famous doesn’t mean he is a genius, a legend, a designer, an entrepreneur, the greatest rock star ever. And if he wants to “help” others he is welcome anytime to start donating his time and money to a cause. And by effort I don’t mean yelling at people on Twitter to give him cash.

    • mellie says:

He’s so superficial. I find it amusing that before he married KKW he didn’t want anything to do with KUWTK and he didn’t want North on the show much either. Now he’s on there all the time, and he makes such stupid comments such as last night’s re-run about Cuba, “these colors are so yeezy”….seriously? There were some bright colors and he just went on and on about them like he’d never seen a teal blue before. I’m sorry, he might get lucky sometimes and say something halfway intelligent, but like the rest of the K family I think he’s just dumb. They all just sound so unintelligent, no matter how slow you speak, how long your drag your words out, how much you try to enunciate, you can only hide complete stupidity for so long. And yes, sometimes I watch this stupid show, I have three daughters 17-23 so it was inevitable that this would be on in my house at some point. It’s like watching a train wreck. Kris is probably the only one with a brain…a calculating brain at that, she is a crafty one.

  15. lobbit says:

I’m going to grudgingly admit that an Ikea/Kanye collaboration sounds kinda cool.

  16. Mieke1989 says:

He visited IKEA HQ in Älmhult a few months ago. Or so I was told by a former colleague that works there now. Just don’t see a match, but that might be the aversion I feel to Mr Kardashian.

  17. iseepinkelefants says:

Nah Kanye would probably be perfect for the Swedes. He likes clean design. Those hideous couches he showed off a few months ago were not my liking (egg design) but they were minimal and white. I’m one of those weirdos that likes white furniture (white head board, white couch). Actually I have a bomb ass bed from Ikea that looks like the bed Charlotte had in Sex and the City but the covering was white tweed (it was called the Grimstaad). IKEA hasn’t made anything that clean or fancy looking since. I would kill to see what Ikeezy looks like. I’d probably like it.

  18. Tessa says:

Why does he think he can design?

    • jeanpierre says:

      Because he can.
The inspiration of Kanye West passion, why do people can’t see it?

  19. May says:

Kanye actually visited the IKEA hq a couple of months ago. Was a lot of headlines in Sweden, but IKEA denied any collab. Swedes love Beyonce more than Kanye I think. Kanye has a personality that clashes big with Swedish temprament. We are taking pride in beeing modest.

  20. Anon says:

Ikea said no to him, right?

  21. Anon says:

Name your favorite song from life of Pablo… That Awesome album that you hear everywhere.
