The problem is that society puts these people on a pedestal and once we realize they're above us we do everything to tear them down. For those of you attacking her acting, where's your Oscar? and Annie, the "same tired person over and over"? she is the most versatile actress, doing roles from murderess to psychotic to backroads mountain woman to overweight british icon to numerous period pieces from the 20s, 30s, 50s, 60s and 1800s...gimme a break! u can't buy that talent. and lay off the puckered face already...its old. Great movie. She's got two films coming out this year - My One & Only, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and got pretty good reviews, and My Own Love Song with Forest Whitaker which also looks really interesting. I don't get the antipathy towards her at all. She's a clever, versatile actress and, by all accounts, a really nice person. And highly professional. She's kind of old-school, keeps her private life off the radar, does her own thing, maybe that's why the tabs don't like her? She seems to be much better liked this side of the pond than in America - her press over here is much more positive, even when her films don't necessarily get great reviews - ie. people seem more disposed towards liking her and far less inclined to write her off on the basis of an occasional dud. (Ex: Clooney = bachelor playboy, charming ladies man; Zelwegger & Aniston = frustrated spinsters, would-be cougars). I loved her in the first Bridget Jones Diary. Did not care for the sequel because I think she allowed her body to get too plump the second time around. But just the same, whenever actors are willing to change their bodies for their art it shows some real sacrifice. I also think she is very classy and I loved her in Chicago also. The only thing I never understood was her romance with the White Stripes guy. He may have been(or is) a good musician, but he always looked dirty and actly rudely. Renee was way to good for him.
