Taylor Swift’s record company swears she’s not releasing an album this year

FFN_Swift_Taylor_INI_081016_52144887

Here are some photos of Taylor Swift in NYC on Wednesday. She went to the gym and got pap’d coming out, which is her habit this week. It takes me back to 2014, when it seemed like every day, Taylor was getting pap’d coming out of the gym or entering or leaving her apartment building. Those were fun days, because it felt like Taylor just wanted to give people a fashion show on a daily basis. It worked too – she got lots of fashion/blog coverage, which added to her overall press in advance of the release of her last album, 1989.

Speaking of 1989, did you know that Taylor keeps to a big album/promotion/tour/recording schedule? Ever since 2006, Taylor has put out an album every other year (even years: 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014), always in the fall. Her albums always come out in October or November. My first thought/theory as to why she does that is because she releases an album right around the Grammy cut-off so she can “campaign” for a Grammy for a full year. Meaning, she won 2016 Grammys for an album she released in 2014.

Anyway, considering Tay-Tay’s tried-and-true schedule, we’re due for a new album this October or November. One brave Swiftloonie tweeted that question – “Are we getting a new Tay-Tay album this year?” (I’m paraphrasing) – to Scott Borchetta, the president/CEO of Big Machine. Borchetta shut it down:

Do you believe this? Or is this just Taylor’s attempt to do a Beyonce-style surprise-album drop? I suspect that Taylor truly hasn’t finished an album yet. Most of the gossip has her writing the new album now, and maybe she’s recording here and there, but that takes time. My guess is that the new album will absolutely break Taylor’s pattern and she’ll probably finish it this fall/winter and maybe release it in the spring. While Taylor is extremely disciplined about many things, I don’t believe she’s disciplined enough to drop a surprise album without giving any woe-is-me interviews or dropping any hints to the latest batch of blind item songs. She couldn’t even ghost-write a Calvin Harris song without turning it into a five-act saga of he-said/she-said accusations and cat-tears. My point? Setting up that kind of album promotion takes time, which means her album is coming out in 2017.

I feel Taylor is still organizing her archive of who wronged her this year in order to start writing.

    • Lora says:

      Hahahaha! I’m dying 😂😂

    • Artemis says:

I think she was experimenting with a new sound and look considering her change of looks in rapid succession and then when she broke up with Calvin, changed back to her normal hair.

Also, she’s ‘been through a lot’ in a short amount of time that might even eclipse the Calvin break-up. It’s hard to choose a direction when so many people took shots at her, she can only make so many songs about being wronged. Better to keep it with 1 or 2 events maximum. Maybe she has Victim Fatigue and needs time to recuperate 😀

She could just make a love album which is entirely positive but in order for that, she has to be with Tom until at least the tour starts which I don’t see happening tbh because that would mean going over a year of dating and she can barely manage a couple of months usually.

      • Betti says:

If there is one thing life has taught me is that self absorbed people like Tay Tay never change, they front they like have but change is frightening to them. She only knows how to wrong blind items song of people who have ‘wronged’ her, so don’t expect any new material to be any different. She has WAY too much material to work with now.

      • Dippit says:

Yes Betti – if Swift’s next album seems a departure from her usual infantile revenge blind item songs, then expect a lot more acknowledged co-writing credits OR a lot of ghosting songwriters tied up in legal red-tape, for a lifetime, not to reveal they wrote the album for her.

      • Artemis says:

@Betti: I only said that because it would help with her image. I don’t think it’s her thing either considering her Mean Girl personality but it would help people think of her in a different light. That’s only if her relationship with Tom lasts for a long time (at least 2 years!).

But if she does want another Victim album, it’s going to be hard because we have had so many players inserting themselves in the drama and Taylor does not take well to even the slightest hint of being unpopular. Even the media went in so how will she deliver a consistent album with 12-14 songs with so much material? That works against her and she cannot be too vengeful. Also her albums consist of: saying how she fall madly in love, the deceit, the recovery (hope in finding love again). There is SO much material that has nothing to do with a romantic relationship that she cannot go the traditional Break-Up album route 🙂

    • Kate says:

Exactly what I was going to say. 2016 has been rich in source material for her. No matter than she bears some responsibility for her woes. It’ll sell big, I’m sure. Perhaps she is also waiting on the inevitable melt down of Hiddleswift?

  2. lilacflowers says:

Has she even been near a recording studio?

    • FingerBinger says:

Certainly. She probably has studios in her many homes.

      • Bonzo says:

No she doesn’t. She may have a studio in her RI home for demos, but a professional recording studio with full production capability? No.

I used to work in the music biz (recording studio, record label & management) for artists lower on the totem pole than Taylor and they don’t record a song here and there, working half-days while traveling all over the globe. The A&R team at the label will oversee the process by getting producers, engineers, studio musicians and studio booked. Once they’ve selected the songs from the demos, everyone hunkers down for weeks at a time to put it together. It’s not unlike film production in that regard. There’s a lot that goes in to it.

Right now, she’s writing songs and possibly recording demos. If she wants to go in a new direction artistically, she’d be having meetings with her manager and the label about it and deciding on a producer to help her achieve a new sound as well as co-writers. With her personal life in an upheaval at the moment, that could make writing and making these decisions more challenging. She’s got a boyfriend that may not be around next year. What if she writes a sappy love song about Tom now that she wants to replace with a breakup song 6 months from now? In my opinion, she could use a little homeostasis in her life before she moves forward with a new album.

Remember, not even Beyoncé can record without people knowing about it. It was all over the news months before Lemonade dropped. Taylor with her intense need to stay in the news, won’t be secretive about it when she starts recording.

    • Liberty says:

He was bring truthful. The album is called NOPE.

it is a collection of songs explaining why each BF was kicked to the curb. Dedicated to her YEP, who is TH. Out in Oct.

  3. InvaderTak says:

She’ll either come out with a video and a new single or try to Beyonce it and drop it without warning. Which I doubt will work for her at the point.

    • Fa says:

Beyoncé is more clever than her & Beyoncé don’t talk these days her albums talk for her

      • Kate says:

A very smart strategy indeed for any celeb that wants some sort of private life. Taylor can’t even touch Beyoncé.

      • Fiorella says:

Lainey writes about this a lot. See Beyoncé wasn’t the best talker , making this the best choice. Ever seen the story Bey told about the trophies on Tyra? Tyra and her mom just awkwardly changed the subject. Taylor is pretty comfortable, articulate and charismatic giving interviews. She comes off well in her 73 questions even though her house isn’t my style

    • Artemis says:

No. Simply because Taylor needs to drop hints and pretend to be ‘mysterious’. Beyoncé LIKES to hoard her shit and then surprise people. It’s her thing and she’s good at it. She wants people to talk about her not talking and guessing, leaving the narrative open for analysis.

Taylor could never operate that way. She needs people to talk about things she gives them to talk about, she creates the narrative at all times even if it’s a snippet of a song or liner note.

Her team also relies on riling up the fans to ensure they will go out in droves to buy her album to hit 1m+ sales. If she would drop a surprise album, I’m not 100% sure her fans would like being treated like that, they need to feel Taylor cares for them and leaving them out of the conversation and promotion prior to a release might turn them against her more than any of the backlash she ever received. They are delicate flowers after all.

The plan of action now is probably make people forget about the LIES and then they’ll choose a direction for her new album. In a way, Kim probably also screwed up her typical ‘I was wronged by my boyfriend’ themed album. She was wronged by many people as Kim made Taylor vulnerable to other people attacking her which makes it harder to write Victim music.

    • Nicole says:

I think she would try that but it won’t work. Just like the idea for a concept album video won’t work for her either. Beyonce drops surprises, promoted for a while, tours then relatively “disappears” while she gets the creative together for her next album. That’s her thing cultivating from start to finish. Like others have said Taylor courts opinion, slyly bashes people in an effort to generate buzz for an album before dropping something. She needs the buildup for the “blind items” before releasing an album. The buzz is half her power but with the Swiftgate of 2016 she may go a different route.

I wouldn’t be shocked if she does pull a Beyonce but again there’s a reason Bey is the Queen B for a reason. She doesn’t need the buzz to have people lose their minds over her stuff

    • Dippit says:

She drops an album as a surprise a la Beyonce then: 1/ she is copying Beyonce; 2/ she places herself in direct comparison on authenticity, and the music and vocals – Taylor loses on all fronts.

If she goes visual too – still she loses.

Also, her usual schtick is old, and has been revealed as manipulative and artificial.

She’s backed herself into a corner as an ‘artist’ and no change of hair style OR continued greatest love ever pap walks change that.

She doesn’t have the talent to be anything other than the Taylor Swift who appears to have worn out her welcome – excepting as now merely tabloid fodder and an Instagram ‘princess’ for her fan girls.

I picture music execs screaming to minions, “Find me the next Taylor, this one is on the slide”.

      • Naya says:

I agree. A surprise album would invite instant Beyonce comparisons. When Drake did it, there were mutterings too but he is both male and a rapper, and he has a positive history with her going by the fact that he actually has a song titled “ladies love Beyonce”. Taylor may be friendly with Bey but it will be publicly viewed as “theft” of Beyonces strategy and lead to rehashing of the “theft” of Beyonces VMA award. Especially given the origins of the Kanye feud.

Maybe, Taylor would do it in the gamble that her album will sell more and help reassert her dominance but I dont think she has the guts to gamble like that. Its more likely just her waiting out the bad press to the point where she can capitalize on public sympathy. Once theres a backlash to the backlash, she will reemerge with her burn book and aim at every single last person on the list.

      • Nicole says:

I agree. She loses on all fronts trying to “out-Beyonce” Beyonce. Again taylor needs the buzz for her albums. Beyonce doesn’t. I mean lets be real Beyonce sold out an arena tour WITHOUT AN ALBUM. That’s how good she is at cultivating the experience. Taylor’s experience is pettiness and 12 year old antics before dropping an album. Is it catchy? Yes. Is it juvenile absolutely. She won’t win against Bey at all.

So yes I think she was going to drop an album but now she’s been exposed that whatever she had planned she scrapped. She’s trying to regroup basically and its affecting her work schedule.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Tbph I couldn’t see her trying the Beyonce method. One thing that works for Beyonce is when she wants to be private she is like a ninja. Taylor on the other hand…Taylor releases professional photos of her own Fourth of July BBQ’s. I think it’s a mix of lack of discipline and that frankly she doesn’t have a strong song message.

Beyonce succeeded by basically going, “I am not what everyone thinks I am.” and gave us surprisingly mature songs about marriage, racism, motherhood and etc. T-Swizzle’s song content still hovers somewhere between “That boy didn’t ask me to go to the dance!” and “He’s so tallll and handsome as hellll”

      • The Gift says:

Everything you said, Nicole. I just have one correction; Beyoncé didn’t sell out arenas, she sold out STADIUMS. Her boxscore is at $210 Mil with just 40 dates. Chica’s averaging $5.3 mil every night and if she adds a few more dates she will out-gross Madonna’s sweet and Sticky Tour as the highest grossing female tour of all time. Madonna’s average was $4.7mil with that tour so with $5.3mil average, you can tell Beyoncé is taking no hostages. And her average attendance is over 49,000 which no popstar has done. And she did based off Formation which was a free single. Taylor can not touch that. Ever! Not even with her publicity machine

      • Nicole says:

Agreed Gifted. I went to the Formation tour myself so I KNOW how wild it was that tickets were sold out sans album. Heck we didn’t get the album for another TWO MONTHS. The power of Bey is not to be denied

      • Dippit says:

Nicole, in Glasgow they laid on special trains for Beyonce concert goers with railway announcers tannoying times and platforms for the next “Beyonce Train”. My daughter said it was crazy just getting through the station on her regular commute.

I’ve yet to hear of a TayTay Train.

    • Sarah says:

Hmm… didn’t Taylor already drop a video out of nowhere (not a whole album though) with Shake it Off?

  4. Jane says:

Well, she certainly has enough material to write songs for a new album. I bet 1/2 of them will be hate for Calvin and the rest will be gooey-gag-worthy love songs about Tom.

  5. jeanpierre says:

I’m not found of the breast enhancement but this new ass looks good.

  6. Olivita says:

My main reaction: IDGAF. I hope, for her sake, she lays low for a while. She’s currently verrry overexposed. She needs to take a break, chill on the planted pap pictures and just stop trying so hard to convince us all what a wonderful, kind, flawless person she is. There’s something that rings so false in current persona to me.

    • Betti says:

She won’t go away – her ego and need for the attention won’t allow it. Like many others before her she will be the architect of her own downfall.

      • Christin says:

As the weeks go by, I’m holding to my (unfortunate) thought that she’s the new LeAnn. ==== Stardom at young age, cannot let go of the adulation, will become even more foolish once the spotlight dims a bit more and handlers cannot handle it anymore.

    • holly hobby says:

I think yesterday Entertainment Weekly posted on their Facebook that Missy wrote a congratualtory note on her instagram or whatever she’s using about the US ladie’s gymnastics team. The people responding to that were pretty brutal. Accusing Missy of stealing the ladies’ thunder and making it about herself. There were also snake emoji’s all over that post.

It’s sort of funny but I think the tide has turned for her. She should drop the sweet and innocent act and own up to her bitchiness.

      • Dippit says:

The same response is happening on DM and elsewhere to that story.

I think now she’s been exposed it’s going to be a hard ship to turn.

  7. Juju says:

All i see in those photos is PLASTIC SURGERY.

  8. Snarkweek says:

She’s trying to figure out how to spin this. Swift goes for the stereotype, the trope, the most reductive packages a woman can be put into over the course of a life cycle. Sweet, country ingenue, Mary Tyler Moore big girl in the city, American Girl doll summer edition, Taymurrica Aryan wink wink goddess, Calvin Harris era budget budget Heart of Glass crop top diva, S’mores and Fresh Step squad leader, Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck newt struggling on a rock.

It makes me shudder to think that the *real* Tay might be so bad her handlers won’t let her come out and say hello. I’m exhausted.

    • Betti says:

If you read her lyrics alone you can see the real Tay Tay – an immature not very nice Princess, who will get nasty to anyone who upsets her in any way.

    • Artemis says:

Exactly. The media went IN and wrote what they have been thinking for years and finally seeing it validated (thanks Kim for making her vulnerable!) made them stronger to ‘expose’ her.

How does she reinforce being a stereotype or a trope when people have stopped accepting that behaviour as authentic? Can she really pretend that people don’t know? Can she really show a more than one-dimensional personality if she wants to continue selling 1m+ albums that rely on a certain image? Can she really portray herself as conniving and business minded person when her fans think she is a special fragile snowflake JUST LIKE THEM?

If she tries to be more authentic, her ‘haters’ have won because she had to come out and admit she wasn’t authentic before but if she continues her stereotype, she might find people being bored and turned off by the fakery which is well discussed. Nothing lasts forever, especially not TS’ type of success.

      • Maire3 says:

@Artemis – that’s why a tween fan base worked so well for her for so long. Their critical thinking skills are not well honed.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Ooh excellent theorizing by Artemis and yes I agree, there’s a reason she never strayed from the Tweens section.

      • Bonzo says:

I subscribe to this line of thinking as well. Having a predominately teen fanbase enabled her to be less authentic and get away with it.

I’m really curious as to if/how she will try and change her image to a) mature it a bit and b) move past all the mean girl bad press she’s gotten over the past year. Now that the media is willing to write more critically about her, she can’t assume that they’ll fall in line anymore.

I’m not convinced that she has the ability to be more mature as I think she’s probably stunted at her 18YO way of thinking, but it’ll be interesting to see what she does over the next year to try and change the narrative.

      • Snarkweek says:

I’m not even sure what tropes are left to plunder lol. Minivan majority? Her twee base will just scratch their heads and the real minivan majority will just shrug and go back to their Jen Garner feature in InStyle or Shape magazine.

    • Snarkweek says:

      This.

    • cindy says:

      @Snarkweek
“It makes me shudder to think that the *real* Tay might be so bad her handlers won’t let her come out and say hello”. That last line scared me a little! Like a Stephen King novel! Or The Girl With All the Gifts. Makes me think of Tay in a cage at night with terrified handlers. Speaking of…when is the last time anyone has seen her parents? *laughs nervously*

  9. Becky says:

She loves having her picture taken doesn’t she?

  10. Michelle Connolly says:

Off-topic – I LOVE that hoodie – does anyone recognise the brand?!

  11. Nancy says:

The truth and Swift have nothing in common. She’s become such a media joke lately that an album this year could make or break her. Poor Swifty

    • We Are All Made Of Stars says:

Word. It’s been a long time coming. But I don’t feel bad since it’s all been brought on by her. Plus, maybe she’ll learn something in the meantime and it’ll give her an opportunity to straighten herself out as a person. There, I said something nice.

  12. pikawho? says:

You can tell by her smirk that she went out JUST to show off her new ass injections or whatever. You can’t turn a banana into an hourglass, Tay. You just look like a banana with two marbles glued to the front and two glued to the back.

As for her music, I hope she is in full Emperor’s new clothes mode and completely ignores all PR/career advice and drops a surprise victim album. I want her to really lay it on thick and have it backfire magnificently. Then we can get a new pop tart du jour.

    • jeanpierre says:

      Tee hee
      Same here!

    • holly hobby says:

You can’t turn a banana into an hourglass, Tay

      OMG, best comment ever!

    • We Are All Made Of Stars says:

Haha, you win the Cleverness Award for today. She does look more muscular in that photo though. Her legs don’t look so sickly thin in this one like in the famous pigeon-toed one with Calvin.

  13. Dippit says:

Maybe she’ll write an album about how difficult it was for her to write an album and find her “authentic artist” within when the entire artifice of her “poor difficult life in the public eye, through no desire of her own making” collapsed around her.

Entitled “The Private Artist The Big Bad World Wouldn’t Let Me Be”.

OR an album of love for her cats – they seem her go to Instagram image repair at the moment.

    • browniecakes says:

She’s going to be 28 this year. She and her lyrics needs to grow up.

      • Dippit says:

I think she’ll need a lot of ghost-writers to do that for her, as nothing indicates she has it within herself to mature – personally or professionally.

She’s pandered so much, and for so long, to her as a special snowflake image and fed the special snowflake needs of her fangirls. She’s rock and hard place in that her fans, not the most discerning, don’t want a ‘different’ more mature Taylor, that would challenge their own lack of maturity and special snowflakeness. She created a rod for her own back there. And she doesn’t have an alternative fan base she’s likely to pick up now – I think Calvin was part of that design but didn’t work out.

All indications: wavy (old) curly hair; the pinafore dress and kicks; the paler lipstick/less make-up; etc. She’s re-imaging to the “innocent young Taylor” in a reversion to pre being seen as fake days – not maturing.

If she keeps up her reversion look of the last few days in side-by-sides with Tom in LA today/tomorrow, they are going to look even more of a jarring disconnect together.

      • Nicole says:

Problem is she will never grow up because she sees herself as the victim and she tosses anyone that doesn’t subscribe to her whims. Friends, bfs, etc all get the boot if they don’t protect Princess Taylor.
And she will be 27 I believe we are the same age

      • Dippit says:

Exactly Nicole. I find it interesting that #TheSquad have been conspicuously absent lately. These lone shots (gym pap strolls) whilst looking/styling to “younger, innocent, little girl alone in the big city” appear to have an implied ‘she’s been bullied into solitude’ optics about them. A further reversion to the days when she ‘claimed’ to be the lonely girl preyed on by ‘mean girls’.

        More VICTIM artifice.

It’ll always be “poor Taylor” with her, even if it’s now obvious most have seen behind the curtain to anything but ‘poor Taylor’.

      • Maire3 says:

And a grown woman needs to work on retiring the nickname “Tay Tay” along with that victim stroll

But if TS & her PR team insists on resisting, there’s the possibility all that could be spun into “Poor Little Tink Tink”.

      • Sarah says:

She is currently 26 and will be 27 in late November. Let’s not age up women when they are already so criticised for ageing!

  14. maria 2 says:

Are we supposed to believe she actually worked out at the gym? No one I have ever seen looks like that after working out

  15. Trace_smiles says:

Nope no album this year. But she will be releasing a heavily stylized mockumentary about how A-mazing her life is in Taymerica with a posh, over eager gentleman at her beck and call.

  16. Tris says:

re: “I don’t believe she’s disciplined enough to drop a surprise album without giving any woe-is-me interviews or dropping any hints to the latest batch of blind item songs.”

Haven’t we just been talking about her almost exclusively for months???? In what universe is this not “album promotion”?

  17. Erinn says:

I still maintain that her version of Vance Joy’s riptide was really nice. I’d kind of like to see her get into a bit more of an indy vibe. I’ve randomly started listening to celebrities covering celebrities – and I’m surprised how many of them do such a good job with someone else’s songs.

I don’t hate her music at least as of 1989 – she’s no legend, but it doesn’t annoy me as much as it annoys a lot of people. I’m not into a whole lot of super poppy music, but I found hers a lot catchier than I wanted to admit when the album came out. They’re fun little radio songs. I’m not going to listen to a TS song and expect some sort of amazing insightful revelations – I’m going to take it for what it is. A kind of catchy, marketable tune.

I’m kind of surprised that she’s not putting something out this year- given the pattern. I also hope she’s not going to drop an album as a surprise. I’d hope she’s not that dumb, but who knows given the recent events. I could see her maybe dropping a single by surprise… but I think it’d be a ways ahead of an album.

Maybe she’s caught on and wants to take a longer break and lay low for a bit. Maybe she’s changing her sound up some more, and isn’t ready to release anything. I’d REALLY like to see her release an album that didn’t read like a bunch of blind items – but honestly, I think some people are so obsessive that they’d find a pattern in anything even if she specifically didn’t include hints/references.

    • Gg says:

Erinn – thank you!!!! I just looked up her Riptide cover and it was all together lovely!
I agree I am surprised she isn’t following her tradition. She seems kind of superstitious like that. Plus NY seems like her recording spot these days.
I will say I wasn’t a huge fan until she started dating TH and I think they are kind of enthusiastically adorable in a way our jaded world can’t get our heads around anymore. And I’m not a tween!

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Hey I’ll check that out, I do enjoy a good singer covering other singer’s work on occassion.

  18. Lynnie says:

Why did her latest album sell 1 million though? Especially in a world where album sales are declining fast? Was it because she took it off of streaming sites, or did she really just strike a chord with that many people? Always puzzled me tbh, especially because she had just left the country scene where her new fanbase wasn’t checking for her besides the singles.

    • Fiorella says:

Lynnie not to be rude to her but kids (girls especially) often like her song and their parents probably buy them her album instead of getting it illegally or telling their kids to use YouTube

      • Lynnie says:

Lol I wish I had those parents. My mom would not by my siblings and I ANYTHING that she didn’t deem essential. Needless to say, Spotify was a godsend for me lol

      • Maire3 says:

@Lynnie. Lol, I’m a bit older than you, but your comment had me flashback to a day in my childhood. My sister and I approached my dad for 50cents to go to the corner store to purchase gum or sweets with some neighborhood kids. He looked at us as if we’d asked for his spare kidney.

    • pikawho? says:

Her fans are truly cult like and post photos where its clear that they have bought MULTIPLE copies and pat each other on the back for it. I saw one where a girl had like 25 copies of 1989 spread out on her floor. They take Tay’s place on the music charts with a religious level seriousness.

They also enjoy “policing” mp3 host sites on Taylor’s behalf. There is a fansite with a direct link to getting in touch with her record company and instructions on how to report. Its like she has her own personal gestapo.

      • Lynnie says:

Omg… that is just insane 😶. I could understand a regular CD and maybe a special edition Vinyl one for posterity or something, but 25??? And the policing? Without even getting anything in return (besides the “satisfaction”)? Geez, the power of obsession.

On another note, Idk why marketers ignore/pigeonhole the teenage girls demographic. Clearly as your anecdotes show they’ve got the money/time to spend and they’re extremely loyal.

      • Maire3 says:

Something similar happened with the Beiber. This was a while back, when he was still in his “cute” stage. All these young girls with twitter accounts were rallying fans to go out and purchase *multiple* copies of his CD the weekend it dropped so it would make #1.

This was around the time he lost out Best New Artist Grammy to Esperanza Spalding – which might clue you in to who vandalized her WIki page.

It sold more than a million in the first week it came out and was the only album to do this in 2014. The following year, 2015, was a better year for albums. Adele’s 25 came out and crushed the records with 2.3 million in the first week. But consider the top five albums to reach 1 million in sales in the first week:
      1. Adele (25) – 2.3 million
      2. Taylor Swift (1989) – 1.3 million
      3. Taylor Swift (Red) – 1.2 million
      4. Lady Gaga (Born This Way) – 1.1 million
      5. Taylor Swift (Speak Now) – 1.0 million

Taylor is a freak of nature and she has rabid fans. She cultivates her fan base with personal touches; she sends people Christmas presents, ffs. She makes them feel like she’s their friend.

Also, she purposefully promoted 1989 as an album, not as a series of singles, like other musicians do these days. She held listening sessions for 1989 in her homes for super fans and personally served them homemade cookies. Taylor’s consistency at being at the top is fairly astonishing if you ask me.

Other mega popstars have different approaches that work for THEM. Mystique works better for Beyonce, who’s a master at withholding (no interviews, serious media management). Also see Adele and her withholding (going into hiding, not putting out an album for four years).

Idk about the promoting 1989 as an album bit. That’s very interesting, and frankly smart. Personally, I like the focus on albums being cohesive again instead as a vehicle to sell the singles, and if Taylor/Beyoncé success is what drives other artists to do the same then great!

The fan coddling just does not sound healthy from a stalker perspective, but it does explain the album success. Thanks!

She’s going to drop a surprise 24-track album with a Side A EDM + Normal pop tracks and Side B pure country, because why not? The curls are back and she is Taylor freakin Swift, she can do whatever – and i for one, am here for it. Just wish i knew when. I dont see her going past this yr…i bet she’s going to drop it on the same month she dropped her first album or first single “Tear drops on my guitar”, ahh yes back when myspace was still a thing and she’d written she’s a country girl who’ll never straighten her hair for a boy. On the Edm tracks she’ll work with Tiesto just to diss Calvin. Then she’ll go to an interview and say, “This song I wrote is about finally finding yourself. After years of dating BOYS who want you to fit their perfect night time fantasies, you finally come across a MAN that wants you just as you were at sixteen, ccan you say, currrrllls? So yeah, as always i never mention names, nope, but if you quickly buy my album and scan the lyrics, youll see his name, yep.”

Because despite what her defenders say homegirl got hit hard by the snapchat release. This is as quiet as she’s ever been in the time since she STARTED releasing music.

The media isn’t following her every beck and call, her image of the sweet well meaning girl who became a pop superstar has been shattered, her and her new boy toy are being mocked for being ridiculous and honestly…I think she’s trying to figure out where to go from here. Someone above said it well. Taylor Swift sells you a package of what being a girl/woman should be. In the past she slowly could try to adapt that package as the ol persona got stale and she got more criticism for being too – fill in the blank – but now her whole business plan has got a shock to its system.

She can’t immediately drop a song/album about this, she can’t show off her new romance, she can’t pretend to “aw shucks, you guyssss I’m so surprised everyday by my success!”

Homegirl is testing the waters and getting plastic surgery every other couple of days, she’s in Kardashian territory now.

I havent heard anything or seen pictures of her going into a recording studio. Unless she has one in her home (which could be possible). So I certainly wasn’t expecting it. But considering she was still releasing singles earlier this year for 1989, it would seem weird to drop another album this year. I always expected it would most likely be next year. But i guess time will tell.

As long as she releases Tom, preferably now. 🙂
