Karlie Kloss lashes out on Twitter: ‘Taylor has always had my back…’

karlie2

Oh, honey. NO! Yesterday, we discussed a brief snippet from Karlie Kloss’s Sunday Times Style interview, in which Karlie sort of fell head-first into the ongoing Summer of Receipts. To do a bare-bones recap: Karlie and Taylor Swift are BFFs, but Karlie never said anything publicly to support Taylor in Tay-Tay’s beef with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. It always read to me that Karlie just didn’t want to get involved with Taylor’s drama and shenanigans, like Karlie was “above” that kind of nonsense. So it was interesting when Karlie was asked directly if she thinks Kim Kardashian is a “good person.” Karlie’s answer?

“Ha … you know … I honestly … I … I … I think she’s been a lovely person to me in the past. Look, I really don’t know her that well.”

I laughingly wrote yesterday that Karlie’s name was being added to Taylor’s Sh-t List. But no! As it turns out, Olivia and Meredith sent out an S-O-S to Karlie using their paws and Tom Hiddleston’s confiscated phone. Perhaps Karlie even got a phone call from Kitty Shenanigans Mountain with a sobbing Taylor Swift trilling, “How could you do this to me, Karlie?!?” All I know for sure is that somebody said something to somebody, because Karlie posted these tweets on Tuesday:

First of all, what was there to misconstrue? Karlie was asked if she thinks Kim is a good person and her answer was basically, “she’s been lovely to me in the past but I don’t know her that well.” It was non-committal and low-drama, unless you expected Karlie to suddenly go HAM on Kim Kardashian. Which is probably what Taylor expected and what she expects from all of her squad members. As for “I will never be the girl that you can use to pit women against each other. That isn’t me.” Talk to your BFF Taylor about pitting herself against women. Talk to your BFF about how she went after Katy Perry and used her “girl squad” to do it.

“I will never be the girl that you can use to pit women against each other. That isn’t me.”

Well, except for that one time I was in my BFF’s video that was a direct slam against another woman. And just because my BFF constantly accuses other women of pitting women against each other (and by each other I mean her) while simultaneously doing it all the time to any women she feels has failed to bow down to her, that doesn’t mean I do it.

    Nice save, Karlie.

    • Shambles says:

      Awwwww sh*t. Tell em, Grabbyhands.

“When it’s just petty high school mean girl drama I’m all about it, but when stuff gets real and there’s career-affecting receipts being dropped I’m just so above it, don’t you know?”

    • Runcmc says:

I hate the Taylor Swift brand of feminism that basically states because I have a vag I have to agree with everything every other woman says, ever. Because sisterhood.

That’s not how it works, kids. We’re human adults and relationships are more complex than “total and complete blind support” or “anti-feminist women hating”. Ugh.

      • shelly says:

I think she is more into Taylorism than feminism. She couldn’t care less if you’re Male, Female, Black or White.

You’ll get thrown under the Tayhound bus if you cross her. And Karlie knows it.

      • Nina says:

” I have to agree with everything every other woman says, ever”
nonono. you dont have to agree with every woman. you have to agree with everything Taylor does and says.

      • NeoCleo says:

@shelly “Tayhound bus.” Absolute gold. I hope you don’t mind if I borrow this occasionally!

    • Nicole says:

Yup. Exactly what I thought when I saw the tweet…like ummmm tell that to taylor.

    • susiecue says:

Say “pit women against each other” ONE MORE TIME, Taylor or ANYONE who is repeating it from her. Just one more time. I absolutely cannot take it. It’s laughable that this is her go-to catchphrase as she, herself, pushes other women down. It’s only anti-feminist if you’re doing it to her! And that’s not even what f’in feminism IS. Her understanding of feminism runs as deep as her Fourth of July slip-n-slide.

  2. jeanpierre says:

Ha. Good old Taylor. I was worried.

  3. Becky says:

“using their paws and Tom Hiddleston’s confiscated phone” – lols

  4. Lora says:

So much drama… Girl, just shut up

  5. MissMerry says:

this is why nobody questioned why I would hang out with mostly guys instead of girls in my teens and early-to-mid 20s…

    bitches be bitches.

    • The DEEEH says:

Guys, come on. Taylor and Karlie have been in a long term relationship and of course, she’ll say damn near anything since Taylor’s been exposed for being a hosebeast perpetual victim, but let’s be honest. Taylor used Loki as a human shield for her coming shit-storm, even trying to passive-agressively force him to propose, by leaking stories to the media that he would do so. All of these people who defend her are foul. Taylor’s idea of feminism is stealing fire from the men. That’s not feminism, it’s just theft.

    • INeedANap says:

I hung out with mostly girls instead of guys in my teens because boys are cruel, sexist, and lack empathy at that age.

      Assholes be assholes.

      • me says:

Really I remember the teen boys at my school were some of the most cruel pieces of sh*t ! Some of the girls were too though…but by far the boys were the biggest a$$holes. I mean yeah if you’re drop dead gorgeous they’ll be nice to you.

      • K2 says:

Agreed. So much. I hate the internalised misogyny that holds teenage girls are all ebil and the boys just these sweet mellow young men.

One of the many horrifying things about the Steubenville case was the vindictive, callous, gleefully spiteful texting and social media commenting from the boys involved, and the bystanders. There was a particularly horrible, cruel, misogynist and gossipy Youtube film that demonstrated that well – including two boys who were calling the rest out on how wrong it was. It’s burned on my memory.

      • Danielle says:

Yup. Boy Jenks and girl Jenks abound

    • Locke Lamora says:

Assholes come in all genders. This has nothing to do with Taylor/Karlie/Kim/Kanye being women or men.

    • Naya says:

To paraphrase a common expression; if you run into a bitch in the morning, you ran into an bitch. If you run into bitches all day, throughout your teens and twenties, you’re probably the bitch.

Not trying to insult you. Just trying to get you to do some clearly much needed self reflection.

    • menlisa says:

      Maybe you were the problem?
      Agree with what Naya said.

    • Nilber says:

      Preach!
I had a moment of stupidity and volunteered as a chaperone for our church youth group. 11 preteen kids… 6 boys and 5 girls. I thought i was going to need therapy after 24 hrs with the girl’s self-imposed, lil haters, drama queen lil freak outs. Seriously?! The boys have their moments at that age but jeez girls are another animal. It was bad when I was growing up but honestly these days it is a whole other animal.

  6. INeedANap says:

I fervently wish that Swifty will reinvent herself as a calculating, ice-cold diva. A mix between the Evil Queen of Snow White and Frank Underwood. Girl, we know you’re mean as hell. Embrace it.

    • Nina says:

you can get away with that if you have the talent. sometimes it even helps to be a diva when you are hugely good at what you do, it gives you an aura. Adele could do it, Taylor cant. she is mainly so succesful because she embodies everything society expects from women, right down to the thin blonde princess look.

    • LannisterForever says:

Swifty as the female Frank Underwod gives me life. Does that make Karlie Claire?

      Hiddles can be Zoe Barnes.

  7. Plank says:

Karlie does seem a bit dim and for a few seconds I thought she actually had her own brain and thoughts but no she has to use Taylor’s lame quote. Sigh!

  8. tw says:

Karlie seems like a great girl. I think her response was polite. We all have friends who we may not agree with every move they make, but it doesn’t change how we feel about them.

  9. TommyGirl says:

Good for Karlie to put the record straight.

It must suck to have to prove how good of a friend you are.

Then I remember all the money involved and take it all back.

  10. Adrien says:

The lady doth protest too much

  11. MI6 says:

This is awesome. You know Karlie got read the riot act.
How anyone is falling for TayTay’s shit anymore is beyond me. You have to either be 12 or brain dead.

  12. Lyka says:

I swear, Taylor vaguely heard Lena Dunham use the expression “pit women against women” one day, loved it without understanding what on earth it could possibly mean, and decided to write it into the White Squad Feminist Charter. Now every member of the squaaaa must invoke the credo when speaking to the press.

  13. Artemis says:

Honestly, do any of Taylor’s puppets ever get tired of defending her in the media? At what point will one of them grow a backbone and tell her ‘you know what girl, I love you but you’re too much drama so you fight your own battles thankyouverymuch. The exposure I get from being your friend isn’t worth the drama. Goodbye’. How hard is that? Seriously!

And the fact that Taylor NEVER stands up for her friends (au contraire, she dumped Selena during her Justin drama periods) speaks so much to her true character. The way she clearly tells them to defend her all the time without caring about their reputation is grating.

She’s the good weather friend who only talks about her friends in a conceptual way when it suits her e.g. friendship is so important to me…we support each other…the squad is really about… etc etc…Empty platitudes. The money must be really good to be treated this way but is it really worth it for women like Karlie who have a real career? I get Ruby Rose, hanger-ons, but accomplished women need to stop being such a doormat to a woman who is always going to be just FINE. Worry about yourself Karlie.

  14. Livealot says:

Just came to say that those two are juvenile beyond words

  15. KatM says:

I am not the type to pit women against women….oh, please. I would tend to guess that Ursula has shared her hit list with you.

  16. coco says:

I guess playing a victim is contagious

  17. AlleyCat says:

Those tweets sound like Taylor wrote them. Which she probably did.

  18. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Didn’t I just say yesterday how all of Taylor’s friends came off as members of a cult under the hot seat whenever it came to interviews about her?

It’s all either bizarrely gushing about her or offering quick – don’t make her mad at me – answers.

    Then this happens.

I don’t know what happens behind closed doors that they always sound so scared, it’s creepy.

  19. Casi says:

So it couldn’t be that Karlie and Taylor are best friends, but she offered up a tactful, non-commital response to a very weird question (more polite than I would have been for sure) and then got a little testy when gossip sites (like oh, say, this one) said that Karlie actually agreed with Kim?

That’s way more believable to me than, Taylor (or her PR people) called and read Karlie the riot act and she had to take to Twitter to calm them down.

Karlie is from my area and she is, by all accounts, a nice person and a good friend. I definitely believe the more plausible scenario over the conspiracy scenario.

    • Flowechild says:

I think you need to go back and read yesterday’s post because Kaiser nor did anyone else on that post say that Karlie agreed with Kim. Kaiser even went so far to say Karlie may not even like Kim, but didn’t want to get involved with the drama.

That wasn’t the narrative on most media outlets so not only was there no need for the tweet, there was no need for her prove her devotion to Taylor. Taylor or someone definitely said something to Karlie.

    • Jen says:

      @Casi +1
If I were a friend put in Kloss’ situation (being asked that question but knowing my friend is at the top of most hated current celeb list) I might tweet something similar, as there’s tons of free floating glee on celeb blogs right now about Swift getting her come uppance and deserving it basically, and how she’s so irritating and blab blab.
I’d just feel bad for said friend in general. So yeah I might tweet something to show extra support.

  20. holly hobby says:

Ugh, what a bunch of baloney. It’s not “misconstrued” if the media quoted you verbatim – including your awkward uh’s.

Your friend sucks and she is part of the big problem with all her smear campaigns. Whether Karly likes it or not, she’s complicit.

  21. Erica_V says:

I think she means misconstrued in that many media sites were saying because she didn’t out and out say Kim is a bad person that must mean she was in support of Kim. She didn’t say that so I can understand her wanting to clarify that or shut down any discussion that might imply she supports Kim over Taylor.

  22. Cinderella says:

I thought Karlie had escaped the squad. She’s too fabulous for that insanity.

  23. Sarah says:

Reminds me of Paul Ryan and Donald Trump. The Holy One must always be supported, no matter what.
