Blake Shelton is sorry that you were offended by his gross, offensive tweets

wenn28747515

Welp, I was wrong. I was wrong to give Blake Shelton the benefit of the doubt and I was wrong to believe that Blake was not a rampant racist, sexist and homophobe five years ago. My bad. As I discussed yesterday, people were suddenly talking about some tweets that Blake Shelton made back in 2010 and 2011. I thought there was a solid possibility that the tweets (which are no longer on Blake’s account) were mocked up by some Blake-hater and merely attributed to Blake. I even pointed out yesterday that Blake hadn’t said anything about the tweets, which might mean that they were faked. But no. He really tweeted that sh-t. And now he’s apologizing in a really half-assed way.

In case he takes that down, he writes:

“Everyone knows comedy has been a major part of my career and it’s always been out there for anyone to see. That said anyone that knows me also knows I have no tolerance for hate of any kind of form. Can my humor at times be inappropriate and immature? Yes. Hateful? Never. That said I deeply apologize to anybody who may have been offended.”

Here’s the thing… I’ve lived in Virginia most of my life. I know rednecks, because of course I do. I also know that most people, redneck or not, wouldn’t make these kinds of jokes online or in public at any point in the past decade. The dated stereotypes, the absolutely inane comments about women and homosexuality, it’s also so crudely retro. And I actually think it’s a put-on personality for Blake. I think he’s trying to appeal to what he perceives as his fanbase. That’s how it reads: pandering. And I’m so glad that Blake didn’t feel too “afraid” to make these tweets back in 2010-11. That’s why he’s supporting Donald Trump: because white heterosexual men shouldn’t feel afraid to be sexist, homophobic bigots.

    Well he’s Gross.

  2. lilacflowers says:

“may have been offended” does not equal an apology.

And those jokes are disgusting and indicative of a disgusting person.

    • Liberty says:

      +1

    • Alix says:

^ This. That kind of non-apology drives me nuts.

And this is what he considers comedy? Run, Gwen, run!

    • Otaku Fairy says:

His comments about Trump and political correctness, combined with the fact that he didn’t even try to deny that the tweets were his and the way nbc tried to keep it quiet, made me think that at least some of them the tweets were his, but I was a little skeptical about the ones on Muslims and Dakota Fanning. But now that he’s brushing the whole thing off as jokes of his that people found inappropriate? Yeah, those are all his. Totally explains his whining about political correctness a week or so ago.

  3. lisa2 says:

Never thought he deserved the adoration. Don’t get it. And if this is what he puts on Social Media in 140 characters. I can imagine what he says in private is far far worse.

“When people show you who they are… BELIEVE THEM”.

    • Toot says:

      Yep!

    • Kitten says:

Absolutely. I don’t think this is pandering or a put-on persona to please his fanbase. I think this is really who he is.
      *shrugs*

      • doofus says:

        what kitten said.

when I read about this yesterday, I was like OF COURSE they’re real, this is him and this is his fanbase. before he was a TV star who has to be liked by a much larger demographic, he was a redneck hero. his “put-on persona” is what you see on whatever crappy singing show he’s on.

  4. daisyfly says:

The guy’s a serial cheater and alcoholic. There’s nothing redeeming there.

    • Little Darling says:

He’s always struck me as a stereotypical douche. Nothing more nothing less. This just proves what an awfully tone deaf human he is.

    • Rhiley says:

Yep. I don’t think he is pandering here– I think he is really this way, even now. Sure, he way have a broader perspective of the world now that he has spent more time in a melting pot like LA, but this kind of homophobic stereotyping and misogyny doesn’t ever really go away, does it? Also, I wonder what Gwen is going to do. She strikes as being very desperate for love, but not someone who will tolerate hatred to be in a relationship. But who knows.

      • Flowerchild says:

I too think this is who he is and probably says worse in private.

Gwen and Blake have been prarading their relationship around for the media for months, Gwen has to know who he is by now. He has no problem posting this stuff on social media so he’s not hiding he is bigotry. I can only guess that Gwen knows and just doesn’t care.

  5. Ankhel says:

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

  6. Jane says:

That’s totally uncalled for. I heard he is a heavy drinker (Not sure) If so…my goodness, how much booze did he slug back to get those hideous words out? I’m disgusted by what he said.

  7. Pinky says:

He needs to pick on himself more–call out his own redneckitude, hetero machismo–and leave “teh gays, teh women, and teh A-rabbs” out of it.

  8. Marcy says:

It’s people like him that will be out in droves to vote for Trump. Watch.

  9. QQ says:

This seems like the pro-forma apologia preferred by Racist that still depend on the public for Cash Money everywhere

    • Merchant Smearer says:

Exactly, which is why I just called him a wimp. He shows far more conviction when he’s writing horrible shit than he showed in his idea of an apology.

    • I Choose Me says:

Indeed it is. Also I’m going to be that person and say I’ve NEVER liked him and his stupid face from the get. I try to trust my instincts when it comes to people whether I know ’em personally or not and when I do, I’m never wrong.

      • Kitten says:

        Same here, I Choose Me.

Always got Smug DudeBro: Country Edition from this guy. Never liked him.

      • Pedro45 says:

Perfect, Kitten! “Smug Dude-Bro: Country Edition”

      • QQ says:

I too am very very smugly in the no Country for this cornball from the Outset.. I mean LOL I’m fairly sure i’m nowhere near his desired Constituency for started and also .. have ya’ll really really OBSERVED his nose and teeth?? what?

  10. Zapp Brannigan says:

I wonder what “jokes” he makes about Gavin to Gwen?

And why did no pr people at The Voice think to search and burn down his twitter, I thought something like that would be your first stop when hiring.

    • Merchant Smearer says:

Because it appeals to a certain demographic. NBC doesn’t care about anything but getting ratings, like every other network. They’ve done far worse for ratings, and still are.

  11. Scarlet Pimpernel says:

I get the feeling with Gwen Stefani, she’s really gone from one extreme to the other. Gavin Rossdale represented a very liberal thinking individual (known in the UK as the Primrose Hill set), she got burned and now she’s trying to find some kind of stability in the other extreme represented by Blake Shelton (Bible-belt America).

  12. Toot says:

I don’t think it was pandering, that’s just him. He hides it now because he’s on a network show, but his seeing the appeal of Trump let’s you know it’s still there and real.

  13. Sasha says:

Remember when he bragged about swerving his truck to run over a turtle in the road? Acted like a prick when he got called out and then later tried to deny it. I don’t believe for a minute it was a joke. Sick freak either way. These losers are too stupid to keep their mouths shut on social media and always show their true colors. I can’t stand to even look at his fucking face.

    • Merchant Smearer says:

@Sasha “Remember when he bragged about swerving his truck to run over a turtle in the road?” What a tough guy. I missed that, mercifully. I feel about him same as you.

    • Kitten says:

Exactly. That whole incident said so damn much about the kind of guy he is.

    • Ann says:

I was over this idiot the second I read about him gleefully running over turtles. I love turtles and tortoises!! Turtle killing and now homophobia?? Enough already. This jerk needs to go away already.

  14. byland says:

I’ve known he was a douche for years. A girlfriend and I “met” him at friend’s bar and his version of hello is . . . not polite.

Gwen’s really scraping the bottom of the barrel – again, I guess, after Gavin. Her taste in men is really suspect.

  15. Beer&Crumpets says:

I wonder if Gwen is horrified. I would be .

  16. Marmaduke45 says:

    Aim higher, Gwen.
Unless you want your impressionable sons to be influenced by this pathetically unfunny, willfully ignorant, poor excuse for a man.

  17. Lucy says:

Gwen, sweetheart, I love you. PLEASE RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

    • sanders says:

Why do we give women who date sexists bigots so much credit? Would any of you get involved with someone like that or expose your children to that kind of world view? It may be that Gwen doesn’t care because she shares some of his backward ideas.

  18. Elizabeth says:

He lives in my hometown and people back there are always falling all over themselves to excuse his behavior. Because he brings in tourism dollars. Not as many dollars as Miranda did, apparently, but still some.

  19. Frey says:

Seriously how insecure must she be to even date this pig for press. Woman, get some standards, you deserve more.

  20. Samantha says:

Doesn’t Gwen have a gay son? Or did I miss something.

  21. Brittney B. says:

He lost me (long ago) at killing animals for fun. These aren’t very surprising, though. The only Blake Shelton fans I know are racist homophobes. (Not saying that’s an actual correlation — confirmation bias, etc. — but pandering to that demographic does make sense.)

  22. Shannon says:

Miranda, consider the bullet dodged (hopefully she’s a little more enlightened)

  23. isabelle says:

How the heck does this man have fans? Especially so called “redneck” ones. He really isn’t that talented, he is overconfident for his actual talentm and is nothing more than a smug frat boy. When did rednecks start liking rich arseholes?

    • doofus says:

oh, make no mistake…they like rich arseholes who are also bigoted, xenophobic, misogynist arseholes, regardless of income level. same reason Drumpf is doing so well.

  24. Londongal says:

Best stick to singing, you unfunny Oaf.

  25. Amanda DG says:

Typical celeb apology/non-apology. He probably can’t comprehend what people are even upset about. I hate that Gwen is dating this clown… and I hate even more that she won’t dump him because she’s too afraid to be alone.

  26. Sandy says:

When did you all become God so you no what’s in a person’s heart ! He has a better heart than any of know it alls!!!

  27. JRenee says:

    So sorry not sorry?
Half assed apology but a whole ass.

  28. pandacookie says:

Oh for gods sakes, now we are dredging up celebrity tweets from six years ago trying to find outrage? Gossip is supposed to be Fun people. Not looking for things to be offended about. It’s insufferable. I’m not a fan of this guy, but this is ridiculous. And it made me realize why, less and less I come here to unwind.

  29. Mika says:

Isn’t Gwen known for letting his son wearing tutu skirts and other “girly” clothes? I’m not against it in anyway but I wonder how her homophobic boyfriend would react to seeing her son in female clothes. Imagine how much shit Blake would give him if he marries Gwen… He might try to “fix” him

  30. Rose says:

I’m disappointed. I thought he was better than this. He had me fooled.
