Christina Aguilera making her big-screen debut

It’s surprising to see a pop star who has lasted in the industry without a movie to their name. Britney had Crossroads, Beyonce has had several, including the recent Obsessed, and now Christina Aguilera will have Burlesque.

The movie was written specifically for her and will follow a small-town girl who moves to LA to sing and dance at a burlesque club. No word on who her love interest will be. Interestingly, the movie will be released by the same production company who released the new Beyonce movie.

Christina Aguilera has signed on to make her feature film debut in “Burlesque,” a star-vehicle written especially for the pop siren, Variety.com reported on its Web site.

Described as a sultry musical after Broadway legend Bob Fosse’s heart, Aguilera will portray a small town girl with a big voice who moves to Los Angeles and finds romance and stardom at a new-fangled striptease club.

Though her voice was featured in the animated film “Shark Tale,” the new film will give the Grammy-winning songstress’ a big screen debut in the flesh.

The film is scheduled to begin shooting late this year.

Let’s just hope the studio behind the project, Screen Gems, has better luck with this movie than their current film driven by a big name pop goddess.

That movie, the thriller “Obsessed,” starring Beyonce Knowles, managed to eke out surprise box office success in spite of being universally panned.

I am curious to see how this works out. Aguilera been laying relatively low recently, taking care of her baby and being a mom. She’s also been spending time in the studio, as her fourth album will be released sometime this summer, just before filming begins on Burlesque. It will give her just enough time to do some press rounds.

There also isn’t any information on whether this will be a modern musical or just feature her singing during her striptease shows. A musical would be more interesting, but the other option would be more believable. I just hope this isn’t going to be like Coyote Ugly or Showgirls - both movies about small-town girls with big-city dreams. We’ve seen this plot before; now it’s up to Christina to make the movie all her own.

  8. She looks like a clown, pencil drawn eyebrows, blood red lips, cheap wig. Shall we say Hooker clown? She should trade mark that look.

  9. Oh no, not another one. This girl could be really pretty with more natural hair, no wig, lose the red lipstick and tone down the makeup. She’s too young to look this. What is up with that?? Did she get a face lift? Her eyebrows look like they are above the browline.

  10. I love her, love her music, love her 20s look, though I agree the makeup could be toned down. Still, it’s hard to compete with that voice.

    Oh. My. God.
Does this sound suspiciously like Glitter to anyone else? Why do popstars think they’re talented? Why? *sigh*

She can sometimes be very pretty…without the ten pounds of makeup.
