Duchess Kate ‘found it difficult’ to decide what she wanted to do with her life

FFN_WIlliam_MIddleton2_FFUK_090116_52161214

These are some additional photos from William and Kate’s Day at the Beach, also known as their “royal tour” of Cornwall. I’m surprised that Kate didn’t have a bikini on underneath her dress so she could get some sunbathing in! And yes, as you can see the above photo, The Flasher struck again. We were due!

Will and Kate actually did fit several events into their day in Cornwall. They even had a drink of some Cornwall-produced liquor, and Kate did a rare thing… she took a sip of an alcoholic beverage in front of witnesses. Usually she never eats or drinks in front of people, she did do a shot of whiskey with William. There’s also a weird story about how Kate likely “put William on a diet” because he looks “noticeably thinner”?? He never had a gut or anything, but sure, he does look a bit slimmer. My favorite story to come out of their Cornwall tour is the following story though – Will and Kate trying to interact with children.

The royal couple stopped by Zebs youth center to talk to kids about careers, dreams and goals. While there, William admitted that it took “an awfully long time” for him to figure out what he wanted to do with his life, so he told the group that it’s totally OK to take some time to figure it all out.

“Do any of you know what you would love to be? Do you have some aspirations?” Kate asked the group.

“It is totally cool not to have that, by the way,” William interjected. “It took me an awfully long time to work out what I wanted to be.”

“It is so difficult because there’s so much out there,” the duchess added. “It is hard, isn’t it, to pinpoint one thing? William is right. I found it difficult as well.”

Many of the kids breathed a sigh of relief after hearing from Kate and William, feeling reassured that they didn’t have to have their lives figured out already. “They are both higher class and stuff like that so it is just reassuring that we can do well as well,” one student shared. “They just sounded very interested in everything. They do genuinely want to know what it is like.”

Afterwards the duke and duchess stopped by the center’s sound and music room to take in some performances from the music students. When asked if William wanted to have a go on the drums, he joked, “Absolutely not. I would just hammer the drums. I know where my strengths lie and it is definitely not at a drum set.”

[From E! News]

First, let me be nice: I’m sure those kids truly appreciated hearing two adults basically say “It’s totally fine if you don’t have it all figured right now, sometimes it takes a while to find your passion.” That sentiment is absolutely welcome and underutilized when it comes to kids and teenagers. So good for them for saying that. But I still found it odd/funny that William, who will one day be king, who always knew he would have to perform years of military service, who always knew that his life would be full of charity work, that same Prince William is all “It took me an awfully long time to work out what I wanted to be.” Really? Because it seems like he’s worked out that he doesn’t want to be king. It seems like he worked out that he just wants to be Normal Bill, the middle-class bloke who has all of the privileges of royalty without any of the responsibilities. Is that what he worked out?

As for Kate? “It is so difficult because there’s so much out there. It is hard, isn’t it, to pinpoint one thing? William is right. I found it difficult as well.” I thought she figured out what she wanted to be when she was like 19 years old and decided to devote ten years of her life to Getting the Ring.

PS… The photo below… I’m going to use it for the rest of the year for Duchess Kate stories!! Just FYI. It’s my new favorite Kate photo.

  1. Kate says:

That crazy smile freaks me out! I can’t imagine that it endeared the children to her.

Their pursuit of normality is tiresome.

  2. lilacflowers says:

Now that he is an adult and has supposedly figured out what he wants to be, what exactly IS William?

  3. Bess says:

Kate is so unbelievable phony. Her personality does not mesh with her role at all.

    • Kate says:

      What personality?

    • anon says:

I think she has a lot of interests and in real life, the two might be interesting with their pursuit of sports etc. I think the two of them are introverts and interacting with strangers does not come naturally to them.

  4. Tiffany says:

Kate, that is what you’re going with. You. Are. Funny.

  5. mila says:

    epic pic! suits her personality.

  6. Sixer says:

THAT PHOTO! Even better than helicopter hair. Imagine having that manic grin bearing down on you. What with that and Normal Bill currently dressing as the weirdo we’re always being warned about…

… won’t someone think of the children?

  7. Goats on the Roof says:

Kate never actually did anything and never really appeared to even try, so it’s laughable for her to say she found it difficult. These are lines they are being told to repeat to make themselves look good, I think.

    • HH says:

That’s my thing. Even if we are to not count her time as a duchess, the 10 years of dating (6 post university), she did NOTHING.

    • Lindsay says:

I don’t think they were told to say that. #PoorJason is not a complete idiot and would know these statements would lead to ridicule. Say something supportive for the kids that don’t know? Sure. Talk about you and your “struggle”? No – they came up with that one on their own. I do believe they both think that they have had a tough time. Although it has been easier for Kate lately she has #PoorJason to pop in and tell her what it is she is ‘very keen on’ every six to eight weeks.

    • graymatters says:

I think she means that she moved from failing as a children’s clothing designer to failing as a photographer to failing as a duchess. And yes, I woke up on the bitchy side of the bed this morning.

    • mar_time says:

While I think they think it’s “cool” to tell young kids it takes a while to figure things out, they really have no idea what they’re saying. If I were meeting with those kids, I’d say “I’ve known I’ve wanted to be a wedding planner half my life and I worked very hard to achieve my goals. I planned weddings for free starting out and can still only do it part time as I also have a full time job that pays my bills… Think about what excites your soul and work very hard towards that!” I don’t know, I think it’s important to stress hard work, especially when things aren’t handed to most on a silver platter… It takes years to achieve career goals.

Sorry I’m a little grumpy, if I had her access I’d be arranging fundraisers and helping out charities all the time. How does she find the time to do absolutely nothing??

      • Timbuktu says:

        @mar_time,
but what would they know of hard work, though? In their world, you probably just mope around until you “find yourself”. Mommy and Daddy can support you until then, even if it’s well into your 30-s.

  8. Izzy says:

I actually burst out laughing when I read the headline. Startled the dog.

  9. Betti says:

ITA – she’s known all along what she wanted and spent 10 years pursing it until she got it. I think the not knowing what to do with her life nonsense comes from wondering what to fill her time with while waitying for her Prince to call.

That photo of her ‘smiling’ is going to haunt me – she does look quite scary. I just can’t fathom why she insists on pulling these faces and bares her teeth, you don’t see William or any other celeb gurning like that. But i guess this is the results of faking it too hard.

  10. Guesto says:

They are a pair of dull-witted dunces.

  11. Elizabeth says:

HAHAHAHHAHA.. ok now that is out of my system…
“Duchess Kate ‘found it difficult’ to decide what she wanted to do with her life… until she found the art of FLASHING”

^^ There Kaiser , I completed the headline for you 😀
And that manic grin, oh dear, that poor poor kid!
And William is a joke, is he trying to be relatable? cool? He was born to a “job”? What is there to figure out?? Their PR team is paid for nothing it seems, these two are so unprepared.

    • Lindsay says:

You can have the best advisors in the world but if you firmly believe, as William does (and Carole to some extent) and don’t take their advice there is not much they can do. With PR, legal advice, medical advice, ect non compliant clients make their job so much harder. There is an element of personal responsibility Willnot and Cannot have to have the dedication and discipline to show up and do their jobs and the self restraint to think before they speak and become informed about what they are speaking about.

At least this is asinine and patently absurd but not damaging like blaming parents, especially poor working parents, for causing their child’s mental illness, oversimplifying an important issue, and numerous other more serious faux pas.

      • Elizabeth says:

        @Lindsay: True that!
IT must be excruciating for their PR team to see this & you are right we cant blame the PR completely as Harry shares the same team and does a wonderful job.

But outside of blogs etc the PR is not a total fail.
I was working on a project in Sydney last month and many of my workmates were praising (!!) willnot and Katenot for being so “down to earth” and hard working DESPITE having 2 young kids!!! It really boggled my mind to hear Ivy educated colleagues have such opinions but then the fairytale story spinned out has still not worn off the general public it seems!

@Kasier: Harry helped rescue a crocodile in Africa..please a story on that to get over the grinning maniac please 🙂

    • Sarah says:

Also, while indecisive, most kids are working 2 or 3 low paying jobs, not being supported by Mommy and Daddy.

  12. Lindsay says:

That smile just screams genuine interest!

It would be encouraging to hear from an adult that was successful in their own right. It seems like William and Kate have still only ruled out what they don’t want to do. Plus I doubt those children have parents who can send them all over the world on a “gap year” and another after they graduate, and another after they first semi-job. And then enroll them in a custom built program at Cambridge once they realize their degree didn’t prepare them for their actual job.

I am surprised they didn’t share the inspiring stories of how they picked their majors. Kate picked hers because there were rumors William was studying art history. William ended up in geography because art history was too hard and more work than he wanted to do so he called up PC to whine and rage quit. Kate could not have that so her mother found an easier path for him. Great pick to talk to the kids about planning their future!

Also, most kids their age are full of ideas of what they want to be. My brother changed daily then decided he would be an astronaut veterinarian, who busted ghost and was a musician and songwriter in his free time. 🙂 It trickier once reality sets in, appraising your strengths and weaknesses, figuring out how much time and money you want to spend on school, getting an accurate, non-glamorous look at what your dream job really entails and what you have to do to get there and the odds of success. Not that they could relate to that either.

But given the alcohol in public at least she is putting on weight for reasons other than pregnancy. It still makes me laugh she was an “accessories buyer” and that is still the biggest flaw in her weak style game. Followed closely by tailoring and posture.

    • Annetommy says:

I’m surprised that geography would be easier than art history. You have to do extensive field work I believe. I thought he chose art history on the grounds that most of the pictures they were going to study could be found in granny’s house.

      • Crux of Seven says:

        @ annetommy

I am surprised about that, too. Perhaps it was geography from a “cultural perspective”? So instead writing about natural sciences which geography usually is … then geography from a cultural perspective would be to be allowed to write about pretty much any issue : cultural, historical, artsy, economic, social … Then it would be easier ndeed.

  13. Lainey says:

I’d love to know what exactly it is they’ve decided to do with their lives. Neither of them do enough of anything for it to count as a career.

    • JustBitchy says:

      +1

    • Sarah says:

Yes, I’d love to know, too! Cause it seems like they’ve decided “not much of anything!”

And pants when you are with kids, bending, kneeling, crouching. This isn’t rocket science. One would think she would think about this ahead of time. Another flash added to the list.

  14. Green Is Good says:

That headline. I didn’t know Waity was a comedian, because that is hysterical!

  15. Pepper says:

That’s nice Kate, but we don’t all have the luxury of deciding to do nothing with our lives.

  16. The Original Mia says:

Tone deaf idiots. They have no clue how moronic they sound.

  17. Kitty says:

I do not see her ultimate goal happening. Being a future Queen consort.

  18. Carmen says:

As a Yank, I do not get the constant hate and criticism of these people. They both seem fairly harmless, like a lot of young Americans who have too much money and no idea of what to do with it.

    • PHAKSI says:

Those young americans are not funded by taxpayers. How many times have commentators made the point that W+K have an obligation to the people of the UK?! They cant just do as they please. The behaviour of other rich people does not excuse them

      • Andrea says:

As a woman and an American, it isn’t very modern day woman to have your sole goal in life to catch a wealthy man. Every person I know would snub or shun a person who tried to infiltrate our friend circle with such an attitude.

      • Crux of Seven says:

        @ Andrea

The smarter golddiggers successfully pretend to aspire to a career / academic degree but do secretly put a lot more effort in partying with the right guys. The Middleton’s mistake was that their daughters weren’t good at pretending to try for a career. 😉

  19. Sharon Lea says:

Giada De Laurentiis does that same smile, showing all of the upper and lower teeth. It looks so unnatural.

    • graymatters says:

When I was in high school, I once surprised a girl in the bathroom practicing that smile in the mirror with a pencil between her teeth. She explained that the cheerleading coach recommended she do that before tryouts. She made the team.

    • Mamunia says:

I notice that too and it really annoyed me until they showed home movies of her when she was about 7 and she was doing it then too. With Kate, I don’t think it’s natural. She seems rather contrived.

  20. Seraphina says:

Yes. Great that they said it because I agree. Sometimes you can’t pinpoint what to do and we all change and evolve and so do our choices change with it.

That said, I find it hilarious these two would say why they said. WOW. I will leave this alone because I think we are all on the same page.

And she looks unkempt on these pics. So sad Kate.

  21. PHAKSI says:

I can believe that being waity was not in her plans. She was expecting a proposal right after they graduated.

  22. Ellen says:

“Do you have some aspirations?” “It’s totally cool not to have that”

Wtf! I would say it’s always “cool” to have some aspirations. Oh lord, these two.

    • Mary Mary says:

Kate did have aspirations: “In truth, Kate had long harbored a crush on the handsome prince. While other girls decorated their rooms with photos of soccer players and rock stars, Miss Middleton’s dormitory room was dominated by a color photograph affixed to the wall directly above her bed of the Heir in boots and tight-fitting jeans. (The snapshot, taken of William and his father standing beside a stream at Balmoral, originally included both princes; Kate simply cut Harry out of the picture.) She devoured every newspaper and magazine article about William and kept track of his schedule on the Internet. “A lot of girls said, ‘Oooh, I’m definitely marrying Prince William,’  ” one of her classmates recalled, “and maybe some of them really meant it. But you got the feeling that Kate really meant it.”

  23. Betti says:

They’re out and about again today – upping those end of year numbers and SHE’S WEARING TROUSERS and has the front part of her hair tied back!!!!! Well skinny tight fitting leggings.

The fail has a great picture of them at the Eden Project with their ‘interested and engaged’ faces on – pursed lips, slight frowns. She still has that clutch grasped against her crotch for dear life.

    • TeamAwesome says:

I saw the picture on Instagram and was like ZOMG she’s wearing pants! To Celibitchy! Then I remembered that pants also means underwear, and I laughed because Waity is the Duchess of Flashington.

    • Crux of Seven says:

Skinny tight fitty leggins and no camel toe? Or just no camel toe pics?

Don’t like the skinny leggins. They kind of didn’t fit with the outfit colour-wise and style-wise it was an even worse choice.

  24. what's inside says:

“They are both higher class and stuff like that so it is just reassuring that we can do well as well,” one student shared. The idea that a child actually thinks in terms of class really pisses me off. Excuse me, but they are still people who put their pants on like everybody else.

    • Crux of Seven says:

The problem is that British Society and British Media all teach the Brits to respect and obey to the class system. Simultaneously they teach all Brits that there were no more classes but that everybody were middle class.

    • addie says:

I don’t think Kate puts her pants on much at all.

  25. Dee says:

You all are so extra when it comes Kate. She hardly looks like a maniac. I wonder what we’d look like if every hundredth of a second of our conversations were on camera.

  26. Jb says:

That photo is brutal in the best way.

  27. Citresse says:

The smile on Kate’s face (thumbnail photo) kind of reminds me of the look people make at the dentist’s office when a cleaning has been completed and the hygienist passes you a little mirror to have a look.

  28. Starlight says:

Speechless – she found it hard to know what to do – what did she do? anyone with any gravitas would have made sure to have had some life work experiences even if he was in the frame early.

  29. Murphy says:

Well that’s a pretty moot statement considering she still hasn’t done anything….

  30. Crux of Seven says:

    2nd photo

All of Kate’s teeth showing: Does Kate want to eat the child?

  31. SEveral comments – first, her teeth seem so “thick.” Does she always have to show the public just how big her mouth is?

If I were that child, she’d scare me to death – the crazy look in her eyes and she does look like she’s going to take a bite from him. Is she preparing for Halloween? She looks like she could be Jack Nickelson’s sister in the movie “The Shining.”

Why doesn’t Jason see these photos of Kate, flashing, and tell her about it? Or is this something she gets a thrill from?

And, lastly, what would Kate have done if William had never proposed? What would she have done with her life??? There was no guarantee she was going to get what she wanted.

    • justme says:

It’s the last pic with the crazy eyed look, I think she was trying to strike a sexy pose? didn’t work. I wonder when they will decide what they will become 😉

  32. SevenNames says:

Speaking of “what you want to do with your life,” and I don’t know if this has been discussed or is old news already, but what ever became of Zara Tindall going to the Rio ’16 games? Didn’t she delay having a second child in order to prepare for the Olympics? I saw an article saying that she achieved the required marks but wasn’t chosen by the Federation over “concerns regarding her horse,” and then just released a statement to the effect of “she wanted to make sure the best team went.” Was this a straightforward situation of not being “good enough,” or a highly politically correct way for her to pull out of the Games over concerns over Zika virus?

    • LAK says:

For her particular sport, the condition of the horse to be used is as important as the human athlete. It also undergoes trials to qualify, same as the athlete. Both have to be in peak condition to compete. Zara’s horse wasn’t upto it which means she couldn’t make the team.

The selection process is various trials over several months with the horse you intend to use at the games. If the horse fails at yhe last hurdle or is injured, you can’t substitute another one even if you do have a substitute.

And it’s too bad that the team selection happens at the very last minute such that a substitute horse can’t qualify because it wasn’t put through the trials.

In a nutshell, Zara and her declared Olympic horse didn’t didn’t make the team.

As for the Zika virus, lots of people stayed away, no conspiracy

  33. emma says:

I wish people had told me that while it’s ok to wait to try and figure out what you want to do, to at least THINK about it and TRY different things. It took me too long to realize the second part.

  34. cerys says:

Stalking a prince, hanging around him catering to his every whim and waiting 10 years for him to settle for you is not much of a career plan. She has never had to work for a living and it shows in her inability to handle even the easiest of royal duties.
William’s career path has been marked out from birth and he constantly struggles with it. Neither of them have what it takes to be a future king and queen.

    • Starlight says:

I do think William made a sincere career choice alongside Royal duties and he trained to be a helicopter pilot. This would have been a life career choice I think he will always keep his pilots licence up to date. Let’s face it he went to university which he disliked by all accounts and got his training in after. self respect and substance in today’s society regardless of having wealthy parents, I mean even Chelsey Davey got a position in a law firm, Cressida Bonas actress, Jecca Craig charity work for African wildlife, Harry – Army training and trained. Let’s face it they have all something to look back on and discuss and are able to make the comment of thinking hard about what they wanted to do. Kate can say at least I gave it all up to give my precious time to be available for my future husband.

      • Thomas says:

William sounds like a joke , everyone knows that his path was set. Kate is such a fake , IMO Her whole life around 20 was devoted to PURSUING THE PRINCE. William is delusional and Kate is a phony. Can’t stand her. Their laughable. Lol They are both utterly dull, with their pre- written PR scripted comments.

      • Crux of Seven says:

        @ Starlight

They all have something to fall back on.
When William was or was nearly quitting his university studies the university made it possible for him to change subjects without him adding any time at university. In other words: the university likely changed the official study requirements so that William could take his credits from studying geography into his new major: history of art. It is actually quite a stretch. History of art and geography aren’t exactly closely related academically. So in other words the university likely did bend a few rules to help whimsical Willy to get his degree.

As both for William and Kate: both are rich and well connected. William is powerful enough to make a university bend its rules.

In Germany we did recently have a case of a rich upper class boy (former aristocratic family) who plagiarized his doctorate thesis. And there is a suspicion that he didn’t just plagiarize but he actually likely bought a doctorate thesis from a ghost writer. Now that German upper class boy became a minister in the federal goverment!!! And he wasn’t even as upper class as William. So if that German boy pulled such tricks then imagine what kind of tricks Prince William might be able to pull off being the grandson of a Queen and 2nd in line to the throne.

Why I wrote the above paragraph? I find it suspicious that neither William nor Kate show any interest in art despite studying history of art. I find it suspicious that the interior decoration in their home is so hapless and clueless and unstylish. Well, somebody might find out in a few decades …

  35. EM says:

What she wanted to do with her life? Well…she is living the high life on the taxpayer dime.

    • Crux of Seven says:

And if she hadn’t managed to nail down William she would have found some other chap. See Pippa.
