The Creative Arts Emmys were held last night in LA and as you can see there wasn’t an amazing turnout. This is the secondary ceremony where they give awards for things like makeup, cinematography, writing, directing and editing. Just looking over the full list of winners, which you can see at E!, it seems like the Emmys are a bit better than the Oscars at relegating some of the awards to their other show. The Emmys air this Sunday, September 18th.
First off here’s Heidi Klum in a strapless, formfitting metallic Roland Mouret gown with a slight fishtail. I really like the fabric on this dress and the slight texture it has, but it’s a somewhat overdone silhouette. Still this is Heidi Klum and the look is a win for her.
Heidi was up for Outstanding Host in a Reality Competition Program, for Project Runway, which went to RuPaul for Drag Race, yay! Heidi has been nominated in that category countless times and she previously won, along with Tim Gunn, in 2013. This is RuPaul’s first nomination and first win. Here’s a photo of RuPaul in his pink polka dot suit.
Here’s Lake Bell in Naeem Khan looking kind of miserable. I guess most people would look somewhat pained in that dress with that styling. If you look closely at the skirt you can see that it’s made up of tiers of stripes and sequins. This gown might be ok with that semi-circular stripe pattern on the top and a more plain skirt. Update: This dress had sheer panels under the tiers on the skirt, so when she moved you could see through the skirt. Here’s a link to photos of that.
Julianne Hough was there for Grease Live in this very bridal-looking Zuhair Murad gown. Like Lake Bell, her styling is awful. Grease Live won in several categories including Production Design, Technical Direction and Outstanding Special Class Program. Julianne looked a lot happier after the ceremony with her costars Vanessa Hudgens and Kether Donohue.
Vanessa Hudgens was in Maria Lucia Hohan and she always looks like she’s having fun. This is a great dress for her, it looks comfortable and dressy at the same time.
I’m including photos of Aisha Tyler (Archer won for Animated Program!), Ellen Page and Samantha Thomas, and Katherine McPhee below.

Actually excepting the Blackface dancing lady everyone looks objectively Amazing if not with great postures (im amazed at Vanessa Hudgens in particular)…. now Heidi… well It’s Heidi Klum HORRIBLE Kouture is really all she does, even with the poor fabric selection this is a WIn for her, she , not unlike Lena Dunham or Maggie Gyllenhall, gets graded on her own Curve of terribleness
For Heidi Klum it’s good. She could have worn something much, much worse.
I’ve seen worse on Heidi, but she always has to go for the bombshell look. It has gotten old.
Julianne Hough’s reminds me of that Beyoncé gown that Michael Costello designed.
Katherine McPhee and the cutouts…no.
I love Hudgen’s dress.
Love the bodice on Bell’s dress, not sure on the skirt and I haven’t watched the video.
McPhee missed the cutout trend by a year or two and Hough’s is just OK. I like her lip.
Love Archer. So glad they won.
Me too! I’ve put so many people onto that show…
Honks for Aisha Tyler! Love her and her work on Archer 🙂
Not a great dress, but that’s a win for Heidi. She usually goes for trashy instead of glam.
Omg. That pic of Julianne Hough. Proof that bad makeup can really ugly a good looking person up. Shudder.
Aisha and Vanessa for the win! They both look beautiful and comfortable (oh yeah, and not hideously made up)
Heidi’s forehead is amazingly smooth which is interesting as I can see some lines around her eyes. Not that I was zooming in on her face or anything. ☺️ I think she is beautiful and aging gracefully. She has said she will not mess with her face but it looks like she might have had a tiny bit of Botox in her forehead. Don’t go there Heidi!!!
