Liam Hemsworth claims he didn’t eat ‘for weeks’ before a shirtless scene

Every actress in Hollywood just rolled her eyes at that headline. Liam Hemsworth has a new movie, The Dressmaker, coming out in the US this Friday. In it, he plays Kate Winslet’s love interest. The role called for Liam to take his shirt off in one scene so Kate could measure him. According to Liam, he was so worked up about looking good half-naked that he prepared for it by doing push-ups in his trailer immediately before the scene and not eating for weeks.

Liam Hemsworth was nervous about undressing in “The Dressmaker.”

“I didn’t eat for weeks,” he admitted to E! News about preparing for his shirtless scene in the flick. “I did some pushups in my trailer. Anytime you’re going to come out and take your top off, it’s good to do a couple of pushups … It’s very difficult to come out and just take your clothes off.”

Hemsworth’s co-star, Kate Winslet, found the efforts amusing.

“When I would get to the point [in the scene] where I had to measure his waist, I would actually hear his stomach growling,” she said. “I would think, ‘Poor darling. Let’s get the scene done.’”

[From Fox News]

I won’t lie to you; I made the decision to see this film based on Liam standing with his shirt off in the trailer. I am not entirely sure what the movie is about but I have lined up three girlfriends for opening night. I kind of love that Kate, when confronted with a shirtless Liam, rushed the scene so he could have a sandwich. I’ll bet this is true, because she, like most actresses, starved herself for years for roles and she knew exactly how close he was to passing out. Interestingly, Liam said that after he was through with the scene, he couldn’t wait to go find a burger and fries. Does that mean he has to give back his Sexiest Male Vegan sash and tiara?

Of course, the main talking points of his tour were always going to be his getting nekkid and his relationship with Miley Cyrus. Miley fed the rumor mill beast when she dodged the engagement ring question, yet again. While on Today, Miley commented on how cute she found her kitschy, fruit-themed rings and then pointed to the giant rock on her third finger and said, “I didn’t pick this out… but it’s really cute.” Liam, for his part, is starting to at least acknowledge the relationship by holding Miley’s hand in public and posting a throwback photo of when the coupled met while working on the film The Last Song. So why is he so forthcoming now? Part of me says that his relationship with Miley helps promotion for both his film and her Amazon series and part of me… no, I think that just about covers it.

Shirtless Liam, y’all

The film came out over here a while back, and it’s completely nuts but I loved it. Judy Davis is brilliant, Kate Winslet gets to swish around in 50s couture, and Liam Hemsworth gets to be charming and hot.

How is it only now coming out in the US? I watched it over the summer when it was already old news. But I loved the film! It was nothing like what I expected it to be (I also knew nothing about it prior to watching).

      • Bex says:

I think it just hadn’t got US distribution yet. The producer said that they’d had some issues selling it because it was both a female-led drama and considered too ‘Australian’ to land apparently. Everyone I know loved it too, but that trailer is pretty misleading as far as the actual tone of it goes!

I loved this film. It’s impossible to fit in any genre. Kate is fabulous in it, the costumes are incredible, Liam is miles better than he’s been in anything else, Judy Davis is terrific. I really wish this had got more attention – I would have been far less annoyed if Kate’s last Oscar nom had been for this than Jobs, her accent in it is flawless.

(I think it was filmed ages ago, before he turned vegan.)

      • Bex says:

I thought Kate was good in Jobs, even if her role frustratingly amounted to nothing more than following Fassy around with a clipboard. But her Australian accent is completely faultless, which is quite something because nobody ever gets it right.

Yeah, I watched it a few weeks ago on Amazon. I have to say though, the trailer is a bit misleading about the tone of the movie. Especially the last quarter of the film or so. It takes a sharp turn.

It’s a good movie if you can get over the fact that apparently, Winslet and Hemsworth are supposed to be the same age. It’s never fully explained I think but that was so damn distracting.

    Chris>Liam any day

Veggie burger and fries, that’s what he meant likely.

I never truly appreciated the Lesser Helmsworth’s good looks until this movie. He stands out clothed or unclothed.

I really loved this movie. It’s quirky and probably won’t do much boxoffice, but it is a fabulous little film of the type Australia makes so well.

I saw the film on a plane a few months ago. I’m on the same page as the other commenters here.
The scenes where Hemsworth plays rugby totally made me reevaluate the guy.
Not the greatest actor but to paraphrase Judy Davis “he sure is a sight for sore eyes”.

    • Jenn says:

Manta he is not playing rugby. They are playing VFL its a hybrid game made up by the Victorians 150 + years ago. Its basis is in Gaelic football. ITs like a religion in the state of Victoria 😀

I just saw this film on the plane coming back to Los Angeles from France, it was hilarious and weird at the same time. I actually liked it more than I thought I would. He did a great job, I love his Australian accent. I never thought of him before as good looking but I changed my mind after seeing this film. I totally recommend it!

  7. Amanda DG says:

Yeah I’m totally seeing this because of Liam and Kate!!

  8. Bread and Circuses says:

    Gosh, he’s so pretty.

And I say that as someone who normally thinks he doesn’t compare too well to his brother Chris–but in all the above footage and still shots? Gosh, he’s so pretty.

  9. PamelaJudy says:

I don’t know anyone who has seen the film that didn’t love it, men and women. My BFF and I saw it at the movies when it came out, simply because it was the only thing on at a time that suited us both. I fully expected to hate it because the trailer is so awful but I loved it.
I even made my partner watch it with me the other night on demand. He loved it too.

Go see it! The costumes are amazing and if you can get over the obvious 15yr age gap between them, it’s a ripper of a tale.
