Idina Menzel is engaged to Aaron Lohr and has a $30k engagement ring

Idina Menzel at the 2016 iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vega
These are photos of Idina Menzel at the iHeartRadio festival in Vegas over the weekend, where she was wearing her gorgeous “vintage-inspired” two carat diamond engagement ring and looking incredibly hot in a black jumpsuit. I also love her styling here, curly hair suits her. Indina, 45, announced her engagement on Friday to her boyfriend of over a year and a half, Aaron Lohr, 40. Aaron is also an actor and singer who has done film (Rent, which Idina was also in, in 2005) and works on the New York stage. He bought a home with Idina about a year ago in Encino, California so it looks like they’ve been serious for some time. Idina split with her first husband, Taye Diggs, in late 2013. She has one child with Taye, son Walker, seven. She first went public with Aaron at the White House Correspondents Dinner last year and now they’re engaged! Here’s her announcement on Twitter. She’s also promoting her fifth album, idina., which just came out last Friday, so that’s what she’s referring to here.

Oh that’s such a nice way to say it! Idina took a private plane to Vegas where she ran into her friend Lea Michele. Idina played Lea’s biological mom on Glee. Here’s a video Lea posted about running into Idina on the way over to the iHeartRadio festival. Lea is annoying, but this is the time to be that way, when you run into someone you truly like.

E! also has details on the ring, which sounds really expensive to me, but by celebrity standards it’s not.

As for the pretty penny boyfriend Aaron Lohr spent on the diamond, jewelry and style expert Lauren McCawley tells E! News the Brilliant Earth-designed ring is worth a staggering $30,000.

She adds, “Idina’s new engagement ring is on-trend with its vintage-inspired design featuring a 2-carat round diamond with tapered baguettes set in platinum.”

[From E!]

My engagement ring is a moissanite and it’s a carat and a half. If you want a decent-sized ring and are on a budget like me I recommend moissanite and I don’t think people can tell the difference. (I’m cheap about jewelry though.) So that’s why I was surprised to hear that a two carat ring costs $30k! I googled “price per carat flawless diamond,” and a carat can go up to around $29k if it’s a perfect diamond, so I guess this is well within that range. It’s a gorgeous ring, I really like the setting and look as it’s somewhat timeless. Congratulations to Idina and Aaron! I hope to see wedding pictures when they make it official.

lol, wasn;t Taye Diggs also in Rent?

I have Moissy, too! I have a very lovely original e-ring, but when my tastes changed, I didn’t want to spend a fortune. I bought the stone (2ct) and the setting (deco style 18 kt white & rose gold) for a song on a jewelry forum. I get stopped on the street about it. Seriously – if you’re on a budget or worries about diamond ethics – look into Moissanite!

  3. Bex says:

That’s a very ‘Maureen from Rent’ look she’s got going on there and she appears not to have aged in 20 years! She was the Elphaba I saw when Wicked first opened in London, so I’ll always love her for that.

She looks amazing. Whatever work she’s had done (even if “only” botox and/or fillers) was done well. I’m jealous.

My great aunt left me her wedding set after she died. It was made in 1952 and has an emerald cut .78 carat diamond set in platinum flanked with two .25 carat diamonds on each side. Five stones total and they are all rated as “flawless”. When I had it appraised a year ago for insurance, it came in at 13,500. So I could understand the value of this diamond in a platinum setting. It’s lovely. Congrats to her.

I had a rude awakening when my (now) husband and I went shopping for engagement rings. I didn’t want to be involved because large purchases give me anxiety. He didn’t want to pick out something I’d have to pretend to like. So we went together. He wanted to go to a well known diamond importer. I found THE MOST BEAUTIFUL setting there. When we sat down to price it out with the diamond I wanted (1 carat, not flawless, not colorless, but a good quality diamond) and the matching wedding band… the total was more than my new car. Almost $30,000! My husband was willing to do it if it was what I wanted, and truth be told, after that setting, nothing else I saw made me happy, but I just couldn’t justify spending that much on a ring.

    • KB says:

My anxiety would come with wearing it around in public. I don’t know how it works, do you insure it? What happens if it’s stolen?

      • Regina.Phalange says:

Yes definitely insure it! Homeowners insurance, or a company called Jewelers Mutual- they are awesome.

  6. Apples says:

I don’t get the whole “Diamonds are girls best friends.” Like a car they automatically get depreciated as soon as you leave the store. What does it matter what the are valued at by an insurance company? You can never ever get that amount in cash! After selling some of my stones, something I did because I wanted new and different jewelry, I think diamonds are a bad investment. At least your car can get you places and a house has obvious benefits, but a big engagement ring? Please. It’s such a joke. At most you’ll get half of what your fiance paid for it if that.

    • Regina.Phalange says:

It’s true… I feel so bad telling people who want to sell their diamonds/ring what they would get if they were to sell. Less than half, easy. Diamonds are not rare in the way a lot of people think they are.

  7. Regina.Phalange says:

30k for this ring is totally reasonable! Yes, it’s a lot for most of us, and I would never spend money on a diamond myself. I know too much about the industry… Diamonds have lost all meaning to me. I work in jewelry and sell this kind of ring on the regular. Ps: gemstones are where it’s at!!!!

  8. Jenn4037 says:

He was in Mighty Ducks – how I will forever know him. He had about three lines in Rent – certainly not memorable!!

    Happy for her though.

  9. S in Seattle says:

Aw, I’m just happy for her. I saw her in concert (one for which she was late after missing her plane, she told a hilarious breathless story about it being the first time she tried to cash in on her Frozen creds and still got shut down!). She seemed incredibly gracious about co-parenting and just a nice woman. TDiggs is such a very fine example of manly specimen, I was kind of bummed when they broke up, but she sounds blissful.

It’s not Adele Dazeem-level wrong, and I know it’s just a typo. But I still get a little tickled when her name is spelled or pronounced wrong.

  11. Ivy says:

Isn’t a ring supposed to cost “3 months salary”? Idk I’m currently a single college student but later on I’d be a little disappointed if my man came home with anything less than $50k haha

  12. sequinedheart says:

I have a moissanite too and good lord, it is stunning! I would never wear a piece of jewelry on my hand that was $30k + I’m clumsy AF so imagine losing it. Considering how my ring has held up (5 years and counting!) for the cost & the fact most people ASSUME it’s a very pricey piece, diamonds don’t really mean s**t to me anymore!
I like her and I’m glad she’s happy.

  13. cakecakecake says:

Congrats to her! I hope she finds happiness and all the love she needs. I like her alot. Taye can go to hell though.

ps. I have a 2 carat moissanite engagement ring and I am in love w/it.
its gorgeous and I get compliments on it all the time. LOVELOVE it.
