Marion Cotillard & Brad Pitt’s ‘Allied’ promotion is going to be so awkward

On the same day that we learned that Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, Paramount dropped the first teaser trailer for Brad Pitt’s new film, Allied, costarring Marion Cotillard. In fact, the same day that we learned about Jolie’s divorce filing, Page Six had an exclusive story about how Brad and Marion hooked up on the set of the film and that was one of the reasons why Jolie filed. The whole thing became a clusterwhoops of scandal and gossip, especially when everyone was like “Oh and Marion is pregnant too!” As it turns out, Marion is in fact pregnant… and she says that it’s Guillaume Canet’s child. She also basically said that she didn’t have an affair with Brad, so whatever. I tend to believe her, but who even knows? Anyway, now that the dust is settling a little bit around the Brangelina split, Paramount released their full-length trailer for Allied:

It looks… okay. It looks like an amalgam of Casablanca, Inglorious Basterds, The English Patient and Foyle’s War. It also looks like Marion has the sexier role and Brad seems to be phoning it in a little bit?

I also think this is going to be so messy to promote. It’s clear – to me, at least – that Marion wants no part in Brad’s shenanigans, and she doesn’t want a lot of drama around her second pregnancy, presumably. It would be easier to promote this film if Marion and Brad actually had an affair and that was the gossip, you know? Instead, the gossip is terrible, and it’s about whether Brad hit one of his children.

Entertainment Weekly ran a piece a week ago about whether the gossip around Brad will help the film, and one “veteran Hollywood publicist” claimed: “Whenever there is a rumor that two hot movie-star types met on set and are having an affair, it’s not a bad thing. No one at the studio should go out of their way to squash it, whether it’s true or not.” Yeah, but… what if Marion doesn’t want to play that game? EW also says that it will be a breeze to get both of the actors booked on any show, which I do believe. There’s going to be a major competition to see who gets Brad’s first interview.

    I can’t wait for the promo….lol.

I doubt Brad does that much promo (other than what may have already been in the can prior to ‘the incident’) for this film.

I don’t think they were/are expecting blockbuster numbers at the b. O. for this anyway, it seemed mostly like Oscar bait (hence the Nov release).

There’s no way Brad will do interviews, tandem or alone, without having first addressed his ‘family situation,’ and possible treatment/resolution to his personal crisis.

Like I said.. I’d be surprised if he did anything promo wise, I believe they’ll just set this film to auto pilot.

Regardless of any of the personal stuff, I saw this trailer and just thought of Mr & Mrs Smith for the fist half. It’s just weird because two spies- fall in love- run around shooting bad guys- then the spy part gets in the way…..it’s been done. I feel bad saying it but I don’t think they should have cast Pitt in this movie.

And then the divorce when he is making a movie similar to how his first marriage ended….ugh. I don’t think it has any piece in it at.all but I can see why the tabloids would go there first.

I’m already seeing either Brad of Marion walking out of an interview.

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith interviews were rather intense if I remember correctly. Wait till the kid is born, yes honey he looks exactly like you! lol

I feel bad for Marion that she’s stuck in the middle of this crapfest.

  6. Evie says:

I don’t think she and Brad had an affair, but the petty gossip lover in me would have *really* enjoyed that messy turn of events.

Are you really admonishing this poster for enjoying gossip? You are making a lot of assumptions about this person from a pretty innocuous sentence.

I don’t see Brad talking about his personal life when he does promo for this movie. I know the media will ask, but I don’t see him giving them anything. It’s still too fresh. I blame the media especially Page Six for the affair drama. I know people wanted an affair story so bad, but it’s disgusting.

TBH I get the feeling Brad is in a full tailspin. Especially when hearing about his lack of work on his Make it Right project. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does the bare minimum of promotional stuff.

  9. MrsBPitt says:

I think Brad will do the absolute minimum promotion that he can do. And, I’m sure, he will only answer pre-approved questions, about the movie only. He is a big movie star with plenty of clout. The promo’s will be his way or the highway!

Or he could go all WWZ and promote the $h!t out of it. Maybe do Charlie Rose w/Marion and Zemekis. And another Fallon appearance?

That is, if he’s in a good place, in terms of the investigation and therapy.

  11. Sage says:

I think he will promote it. he may not do a lot of live talk shows but I expect a good amount of magazine interviews and the normal press junkets. The movie looks interesting and he still looks good… so.

The last talk show I remember him was breakdancing with jimmy fallon.

  12. Bendy says:

I feel sorry for Cotillard for two reasons: being dragged into this messy divorce of Brangelina and deciding to have another child with an asshole. Poor woman, she deserves decency in her life, not shit.

  13. Nibbi says:

i actually feel bad for him for having to make the promotional rounds at this kind of time in his life. what pressure
