Prince William got a fashion makeover by Duchess Kate’s stylist Tash Archer

I’ve covered the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal tours from the beginning of their marriage, and I think their second Canadian tour (which began in late September) was probably their least controversial, their most “on message” and… their least notable. I’m sure Canadians loved hosting them, of course, but did they really make any news? We covered Kate’s clothes, because of course we did. But there were only a few speeches – made entirely by William – and their didn’t seem to be any real message to the trip other than “the young royals are in Canada and they’re wearing fancy clothes.” Some argue that we shouldn’t spend so much time talking about royal fashion, but if we stop covering that, what else is there to cover? The fact that William doesn’t even bother reading his briefing memos? So, we’re talking about fashion again, but this time it’s William’s fashion. Apparently, Kate’s “stylist” has taken over William’s wardrobe too.

His wife may rightly be lauded for her elegant outfits but Prince William’s own fashion choices have been so drab, one style magazine cruelly accused him of dressing like an estate agent. So now Kate has ordered her stylist Natasha Archer to give William a much-needed wardrobe makeover – and she has started by throwing out his ubiquitous brown loafers and his tatty trainers. William’s cords and chinos have also been bagged up ready for the charity shop, replaced by tighter- fitting tapered trousers that show off a bit of ankle and which are worn with a pair of desert boots from L.K. Bennett.

For the tour of Canada, the 29-year-old stylist – known to friends as Tash – added linen jackets, and sweaters from J Crew, Jaeger and Reiss, her favourite high street label. Sources tell me the makeover process was done tactfully, with Tash assuring the Prince, 34, that she was merely helping him to ‘edit’ and ‘freshen’ his wardrobe.

For more formal occasions, William will now been seen in suits by Savile Row tailor Gieves & Hawkes, and never double-breasted – a style favoured by his father, the Prince of Wales.

Kate will no doubt be thrilled that William’s ultimate style crime – white Asics trainers that he has worn for the best part of a decade – are finally out. As a source says: ‘You won’t be seeing him in those again any time soon.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Tash has no training as a stylist at all, by the way. While she did improve Kate’s wardrobe since joining the “team” in 2014, that’s setting the bar way too low. Kate is famous for what she wears, but that’s not the same as saying she’s famously fashionable. Tash managed to get Kate to spend more of Charles’ money on clothes and that’s about it. As long as those damn wedges exist, I say Tash is a failure! As for Tash taking over William’s wardrobe… yes, I did notice that he has some new clothes and they weren’t notably horrible. But just like his wife, William loves some tight-ass trousers. Every time Kate’s skirt blows up, William’s moose knuckle gets more pronounced. Tash needs to take care of that too. Maybe “tactfully” suggest that a snug fit is doing him no favors?

    He looks worse now.

  2. LAK says:

I think he looks worse. He is being styled in a slim silhoutte that doesn’t suit his frame at all. Everything is too tight and too short now. And my goodness his moose knuckle is all you see these days.

He needed a wardrobe update, but he needed to stick to Saville Row, and if he wished to be fashionable, he could be served by someone like Oswald Boateng who, like William, is a tall, broad man.

  3. Senaber says:

I do think the tighter pants would suit Harry. Are you listening Harry?

  4. Adele Dazeem says:

    Moose knuckle!!

That is all I need today.

Thank you Kaiser for a much needed laugh. Lmao.

  5. Melly says:

I don’t see the style improvement. The Dolittles would probably be better served getting a real stylist, but you have to admire Tash’s hustle.

  6. SamusAran says:

    LoL @ moose knuckle!

Willy-um’s pants are consistently too short and tight. He usually looks like everything was accidentally thrown in the dryer and he just picked whatever and went with it.

  7. Sixer says:

    Stealing moose knuckle, RIGHT NOW.

I keep thinking to myself, oh, so THAT’S what he did with all the royal ivory. Shoved it down his pants. But moose knuckle is much betterer.

  8. minx says:

Some men can wear the tighter look, some can’t.

  9. Cc says:

Love that first look on him.

  10. Wren33 says:

I like the slimmer look on guys, but like much of women’s fashion, it gets tricky if you are not super skinny.

    • LAK says:

He could solve it by using tailors. This off the peg clothing is ridiculous on him because it doesn’t fit.

Rugby players always have these sorts of problems especially in the thigh (too big)/neck (too big) area and the solution is to go bespoke. It’s not as if he can’t afford it.

  11. Digital Unicorn says:

He’s worse – neither of them dress for their silhouettes. Its shows that Archer has had no training as a proper stylist, no one worth their soul would let their client walk out looking like these 2 do. I suspect that she only got the job because Chutney liked the way she dressed herself and they got on – its like the fashion blind leading the bland. The only thing Archer got right was for her to start wearing designer/couture but she still wears it badly.

  12. HK9 says:

He had a makeover?? I don’t know what it is, but it’s not a makeover.

  13. Deedee says:

He looks more like Normal Bill Middleton, if that’s the look he’s going for. Meh.

  14. Nymeria says:

That’s, um… that’s bad. He looks like he’s trying to fit into his favorite pair of pants from when he was 13. That is a cheap and terrible look. It is very Kate Middleton, whom I view as cheap and terrible.

  15. Debutante says:

I think he would look so much better if he just shaved his head and worked on his posture.
He has a good body, he just needs a good tailor like everyone else says.
So the bespoke clothes, along with the shaved head and standing up staight , maybe some Pilates or yoga??, and hell, throw in some discreet bronzer , I think he’d be all hooked up!

  16. Kori says:

He does ha e a nice physique. Philip and Charles have been and still are well-dressed. Get up with them. Charles was overshadowed fashion wise by Diana but not because he was ill dressed.
