Janet Jackson confirms that she really is knocked up at the age of 50

Back in April of this year, Janet Jackson canceled what was supposed to be her big comeback tour. She said she did it for the health of her family, and that the cancelation was actually good news. Most people speculated that she was expecting a child with husband Wissam Al Mana. Entertainment Tonight confirmed the news in May of this year – they weren’t adopting or pregnant-via-surrogacy, Janet Jackson was and is pregnant at the age of 49. Well, since then, Janet has had a birthday. She’s now 50 years old. And pregnant.

Janet Jackson is one glowing mom-to-be. The 50-year-old singer is officially confirming her pregnancy and showing off her growing baby bump exclusively with PEOPLE.

“We thank God for our blessing,” says the star.

After Jackson announced in April she was postponing her Unbreakable World Tour in May to focus on “planning” a family with her husband Wissam Al Mana, sources confirmed to PEOPLE the star was expecting her first child. Over the last few months, Jackson has kept a low profile and was last spotted shopping for baby buys at London’s Back in Action furniture store.

“She is super excited about her pregnancy and is doing extremely well,” a source close to the Jackson family previously told PEOPLE. “She actually feels very good about everything.”

So, there you go. People Magazine has an exclusive photo of Janet and her bump too (I’m including the tweet/link below). Are there any more thoughts on Janet being pregnant at 50? I still believe that she had some help, likely by fertility treatments and such. Although who even knows? Halle Berry also got pregnant in her late 40s, and it happened naturally for her. Janet is so crazy-private, we’ll probably never know the details around all of this, and she might not even tell us when she does give birth. But I still love her anyway! Send out some good vibes for Miss Jackson if you’re nasty.

Sending good vibes her way for a healthy & happy birth & baby!

    • Ditto MC2 (and I only just got your handle name hahah)

Luckily science has advanced so much that while still a risk, with unlimited funds you really do have access to a lot of specialists to help bring this baby into the world healthy.

      I’m happy for her.

  2. QueenEllisabet says:

I don’t think Halle Berry got pregnant naturally with her second child…probably her first though

    • Sigh... says:

She’s been quite public about her pregnancy: She told Oprah (on her network talk show) that she’d been trying to conceive w/ her model beau (something about a drawer full of negative pregnancy tests?) and years later told a late night talk show host she thought she was having other stomach issues that turned out to be a “geriatric (her word)” 2nd pregnancy.

      • Molly says:

My pregnancy was fertility-assisted, and I lie about it to everyone without pause. Halle is well within her right to provide the details of her pregnancy as truthfully as she wishes. (That being said, statistically both Janet AND Halle most certainly used medication to assist.)

      • Starkiller says:

“Geriatric pregnancy” is a medical term, used for (I believe) any pregnancy age 35 or older. It’s not intended to be derogatory.

      • Fran says:

the medical term is now “advanced maternal age”, not geriatric pregnancy.

      • Trashaddict says:

Which is so much better, right? Almost as good as “ovarian failure” (note men have erectile “dysfunction” but women have ovarian “failure”.
Female orgasmic disorder” and “hypoactive sexual desire disorder” , as if others should determine what your desires SHOULD be, and let’s blame the woman if the stimulation ain’t right. Just stop it with this nonsense terminology already.
Sorry, this gets me very rage-y.
And best wishes to Janet. I’m very happy for her!

    • Ennie says:

It is usually easier to get pregnant the second time than the first, particularly for an older mother. The body already “knows” what to do. Mine did it want to go through that, there are many of us that, over 35- 40 have it really difficult without (and with!) medical assistance, although a dear friend lucked out and naturally got her only baby at 41.

  3. Bridget says:

I don’t find her age as interesting as the fact that she’s on her 3rd marriage (and at least 1 other serious, long term relationship) and only now having her first child. She’s so private, for all we know she’s been hoping to get pregnant all these years and it’s only just now happening, but I wonder. Either way, I hope she has a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

    • Ayra. says:

I thought the worst kept Jackson family rumor/secret was that Janet already had a kid like 2-3 decades ago.. and she’s was raised by Janet’s family members.

      • Colette says:

Really ? where is the child ?
What family members raised the child?

      • SpunkyPR says:

The rumor has been that she got pregnant when she married one of the DeBarge brothers when she was very young and that Rebbi (sp? the older sister) raised her. There are some pictures of the her on the internet somewhere.

      • Ayra. says:

I think it was an aunt that raised the daughter Colette, and like Spunky said, there’s a few pictures online, she really does look like Janet too

      • Colette says:

Those pictures are of Randy’s daughter,Stevanna.Who looks identical to Janet.I have heard those stupid rumors.

    • Sigh... says:

That’s what gives me pause: those whining and her being “selfish for waiting.” Her marriages have only been made known WELL after-the-fact, she pretty much disappears btwn projects, so who knows if or why this was her “waiting” or if she just couldn’t conceive/carry and she’s been private about it, as per usual? Who the hell knows with this one…

Welp, good luck to her and hers, as well as all of the MEN who were her age and MUCH OLDER than her when they became fathers (Letterman, Baldwin, Goldblum, Skarsgard, Hughes, Randall, Zane, EVERYBODY in The Rolling Stones, etc), because there’s more research/info around the birth risks involved in “late-in-life” fatherhood, too.

      • Bridget says:

I guess what I wonder if she’s the one who even wants a baby, or if she’s doing it for her husband, just because she has the money and means to very likely make it happen had she wanted parenthood. Either way, it’s total speculation and not my business.

  4. Maleficent says:

Congrats to her and her hubby!

  5. HH says:

Her nose looks ridiculous but good for her.

Whenever/If I get pregnant, I feel like i”m gonna have cheeks like Janet. My face gets SO FULL with any weight gain. Well it’s naturally full all the time, but it’s one of the reasons I hate gaining weight.

    • QQ says:

Right? for years now I can’t look at her cause that sh*t drives me to distraction!!! Is absurd what the Jacksons seem to have decided their Family nose to be LOL

(Also related but not Every time I read about people getting pregnant at ___ Age ( any age lol But deffo what’s considered “advance Maternal age” within that week I pretty much lose my mind having actual Nightmares about getting pregnant, checking and rechecking my IUD Strings.. Yes I’m the worst and Probably have not a Mild case of Tokophobia)

  6. Cupcake says:

How often does getting pregnant without any fertility treatment and delivering a healthy baby happen at 50? It’s gotta be .000001% or something?

    • SnazzyIsAlive says:

Happened to one of my closest friends at 46!! Total surprise ( she thought she was startkng menopause when she went to the doc). She was/is super healthy so it happens more than we think!

    • Babyswans says:

By age 44-45, you have less than a 2% chance every month. Come to your own conclusions about most of these “natural” pregnancies in women over 40.

    • The Other Katherine says:

Given her age, it is most likely a donor egg pregnancy. If it is not donor egg (unlikely, but absolutely possible), it was probably conceived the old-fashioned way, although perhaps with a bit of ultrasound monitoring and injectable FSH; hardly any clinics will attempt own-egg IVF at her age as the odds of success per cycle are unbelievably minuscule and look bad in their stats. Either way, she’s very fit and that will give her a great shot at a healthy pregnancy.

    • Ange says:

I think I remember reading she was having peri-menopause symptoms back in like 07 so I doubt she managed it naturally.

    • Fiorella says:

Happened to my distant Inlaw, she was living in Vietnam at the time and it was the 70s (obviously it was “natural”- there was no fertility help available then and there), she already had 5 kids. More likely to happen if you already have kids I bet! She is old and healthy now (the mother) I think it is good for your longevity prognosis to have a kid late (not cause and effect necessarily but correlation)

  7. MrsBPitt says:

I’m happy for her, but I can’t even imagine being pregnant at the age of 50! I was in peri-menopause at 50,hot flashes, night sweats, the whole nine yards, and went through menopause at 52. I know everyone is different, but, I vote that she definitely had help getting pregnant! She looks great, though!

  8. lisa says:

wow holy pig snout, she was so naturally pretty

congratulations on your bouncing baby pillow

  9. Payal says:

If these ladies need to announce their pregnancy to the world (I mean who’s asking), they should make it clear that it’s with technology/donor eggs or something. I would think girls would look at her and assume that you can get pregnant at her age the traditional way.

    • Colette says:

Does a 30 year old celebrity who used technology/donor eggs also need to announce that to the world ?
No it’s none of my business how ANY woman gets pregnant.

    • SnazzyIsAlive says:

Read my conment above. It does happen. Plus, honestly, how she did it is her business

    • Leen says:

I think anyone who wants to get pregnant should always consult with their doctor on the best way to do so (traditional or so). If the doctor advises more non-traditional ways, women should listen to their doctor not look to celebrities.

Congrats to Janet. I don’t think she should have to say how she got pregnant, it’s her business.

  10. Payal says:

And what has she done to her once-pretty face:(

  11. Jb says:

I got pregnant without fertility doc assistance at 42. My OB said chances of staying pregnant & delivering a healthy baby (I had an almost 3 year old) were, at best, in the low single digits (1-3%). Add 7 years….
I support a women’s right to make all reproductive choices – and if for Janet having a baby came together at 49 and she could finance it – that’s fabulous.

  12. Wellsie says:

So, loads of people here thought Beyonce was faking it but we’re just going to believe Janet? Mmmkay.

    • JenniferJustice says:

I think we’re the only ones feeling suspect. Every blind site in the cyber world has outed her as having a surrogate. I couldn’t care less how these people choose to have children, but it’s the lying that gets me. And yes, multiple sources claiming she has the prosthetic baby belly when it’s time she should be showing. Why go through all that deception?

    • cait says:

That’s because it was SOOO obvious Beyonce was faking, in every respect, and she had plenty of reasons too as well (vanity)….I think Janets faking as well, just because of her age.

  13. Hfsni says:

A picture of a bump in oversized clothing is not evidence. She could just be wearing a fake baby bump.

  14. reg says:

Her secret daughter is pregnant she will try to pass her grand daughter as her own child.

  15. Payapa says:

I read on Blind Gossip a few weeks ago that her bump is a pillow baby. She is using a surrogate. I wonder why the need for coverup.

  16. LeAnn Stinks says:

Sorry, just like the Kardashians, I would never believe a word from a member of the Jackson family.

It is possible she had IVF, but again, I believe the surrogate rumor way more.

  17. lizzie says:

if she is really pregnant i wish her the best – but i’m pretty pissed off at miss jackson these days. she did not cancel her tour. she postponed it indefinitely – aka – no one got their money back b/c in 10 years it will be rescheduled. it was a complete and total money grab (which is mind boggling b/c she is married to a billionaire). a person who is 50 does not naturally get pregnant – she had to have been undergoing extensive fertility treatments while planning for and at the beginning of her tour. maybe don’t plan a world tour when you know you won’t be able to complete it or at least give people their money back.

  18. LAK says:

The happy news is that she is having a baby. The eyebrow raising question is who is actually carrying it?

  19. reg says:

Her daughter from DeBarge marriage is pregnant and carrying the baby
    for Janet J.

  20. lucy says:

“Knocked up” is SUCH a crude term! 🙁

    • Sasha says:

I completely agree. I don’t understand why the writers here keep insisting on using it. I also posted this before. It is demeaning for women. How can the writers here be all about gender equality and women empowerment and then use a term “knocked up”?

  21. KateBush says:

I can’t get past her nose it’s truly horrid

  22. Anastasia says:

Nope, sorry, I don’t believe this is a naturally-occurring pregnancy. I’m not even totally convinced she’s the one carrying the baby.

  23. MediaMamacita says:

Here’s why I hate the lie that these celebrities tell about getting pregnant without intervention past 45: it makes women without access to endless funds or other eggs or secret surrogates feel inadequate, reinforcing that others can but they can’t. I say this as someone who got pregnant at 42 after one round of clomid. And I don’t care what my mom friends pretend. All the twins to moms in my age group are not naturally occurring.

    • Babyswans says:

      Yep. X1,000,000

My husband is a physician and started pushing babies at a certain age. I thought he was crazy bc I was still so “young”! And I was young according to society standards but not by medical and scientific standards for conception. Anyway, long story short I didn’t believe him and when I went to the obgyn and asked her opinion and she pulled out what she called “the truth chart” with stats, etc. My mouth hit the floor and stayed that way for a week after. I would never ever push anyone to have children within a certain time period-everyone should do what they feel comfortable with-but people also need to know the real stats and that they may need to start considering other medical procedures to help.

    • Fiorella says:

Haha most people assume twins aren’t natural. Even though I had three kids before twins people still ask if they’re natural. Most people don’t choose to start IVF when they already have 3 kids ( for one thing, you’d feel guilty not spending that money on your existing child id assume.) so I find the question about “natural” pretty weird but it’s a super common assumption. Natiral twins are indeed more common for older women than young though- because your eggs are being “cleared out” (my scientific term;) )faster and faster before menopause

  24. hey-ya says:

    …she’s not knocked up…she’s Having A Baby…her first…she’s maybe ecstatic maybe scared…Best Wishes to her…

  25. reg says:

After that weird kidnapping attempt of MJ children backfired, she went
to plan b to get her hands on some money. Her Grand Child will surely
    inherit some of Wasam’s fortune.

  26. reg says:

If you take her to OB/GYN they’ll confirm she has already given birth…
    over 20 years ego

  27. Kit says:

In case there is anybody getting sucked in to the scaremongering of these 300 year old inaccurate statistics on women’s fertility, read this article:
    http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-24128176
Some people have difficulty conceiving at any age. Some people start puberty earlier than others, some become peri-menopausal earlier than others. Your body and your experience is different to everyone else. There are doctors who prefer to shut you down, discourage or frighten you by presenting a lopsided view and biased opinion. Find a doctor who listens, presents facts and gives considered, evidence based advice.
My first pregnancy was unexpected at 37. My second took 4 months of trying and arrived when I was 40. My third took 3 tries and I will be 42 at the due date. The extent of intervention for me was an ovulation prediction kit and a product called Pre-Seed.

Congratulations to Janet, whatever way her baby arrives!

    • Elaine says:

Thank you for this article @Kit. I’d read it at the time, but had again been looking for it.

  28. JRenee says:

Every pregnancy is different. I know someone who got pregnant at 48 & miscarried. Got pregnant again at 49, delivered at 50. The child was born in perfect health. No intervention. The 1st pregnancy took almost a year. The 2nd not as long. It does happen.

A relative had her 6th child in her latest 40’s. The oldest child was 23 when the youngest was born. This was in the early 60’s. It happens.

  29. DSA says:

    Her nails! They’re gold.

  30. Donna Martin says:

I really think this is a Beyoncé pregnancy
