Michelle Obama destroyed Donald Trump without even saying his name

FFN_WAW_OBAMA_M_9282016_52188679

I’ve been wondering for a while if Hillary Clinton might be better served if she merely goes on vacation to Margaritaville for the next three weeks and empowers her surrogates to fight on her behalf. Pres. Obama is a great surrogate, as is Joe Biden, as is Elizabeth Warren. But HRC’s best surrogate? Michelle Obama. You guys, when FLOTUS speaks, everyone stops and listens. Michelle hasn’t even been able to say Donald Trump’s name, which makes it even more powerful. Michelle f—king thrashes Trump every time she makes a speech these days. She does it all with heart, passion and love… and she never even bothers to say “Donald” or “Trump.” HRC should just let Michelle finish out the campaign.

So this is what happened yesterday and I want every one of you to watch this MULTIPLE TIMES. Watch how emotional she is. Watch how brilliantly she dissects a small man like Donald Trump.

I mean… Michelle said it all. When she says his comments “have shaken me to my core,” she means it and you can see it. You can read the full transcript of her speech here at Time Magazine, and I would also suggest you study the way she constructed her argument. This wasn’t simply “he is an awful man and his comments were disgusting,” although there’s a good dose of that too. No, she also talks about how it feels as a woman to hear the constant repetition of misogyny, the barrage of insults and violent rhetoric, the stomach-churning admissions of groping and assault. Michelle’s speech is worth your time, forever and always.

What was also amazing? Twitter blew up during and after her speech. Even seasoned journalists were like “FLOTUS IS FIRE!”

She is a goddess and her speech yesterday and the way it reverberated through the news media and social medial inspired me and comforted me.

She is amazing. I hope everyne thinking of sitting out Nov 8 watches this and reconsiders. It’s not enough to beat Trump. He needs to get crushed as a repudiation of his grotesque view of women.

    • Obsidian says:

      +1000

    • Kitten says:

      YES. Thank you. LighPurple.

My god she is amazing. She is straight-up the most talented public-speaker of my lifetime.
      (in my opinion)
People keep calling her speech a “take down” but I think that really does it a disservice. She was speaking earnestly and from the heart. Her words resonated with me on a level that I cannot possibly explain (although I’m sure you ladies get it).

She just said everything I was feeling and so eloquently.
      Gah! I just adore her.

      • I came back from my day away restrengthening my soul, popped on CNN and this refreshing summer breeze sauntered on stage and incited the feeling of a big, giant delicately smelling bosom for all of America to rest their weary heads on and breathe a collective sigh that everything just might be okay if we listen to Her. Shivers!

Yesterday I also saw a spiritual advisor , who said she was feeling St.Agnes might be someone I could open up to, but she didn’t know what St.Agnes stood for or anything. When I found out I was blown away at the relevance.

      • lightpurple says:

I saw her speech as uplifting. We know what is bad. We see it before us. And we are not going to tolerate and accept it. We will fight against what is bad to make our lives better, to make better lives for our children, to teach our children how to be better. And we will do it with eloquence and reason and courtesy and grace.

@LD-You just reminded me to change my name 😉

And YES, her words were so comforting and reassuring.
She was our voice yesterday and because of her, I finally felt heard.

I might even love her more than our president right now, and that’s saying a lot. She is so smart, with true family values. I’m still pissed that conservatives took that title. Her love for our country and citizens shines through, and she can do it in such a positive, honest manner.
        My hero!
I hate to mention how she looks, because she has many other more amazing qualities, but she is gorgeous and stylish and fit and strong.
My 12 year old daughter is getting a homework assignment from me to watch this tonight.
Thanks, CB, for all the coverage. We need a sane place.

I sobbed. I outright cried like a small child. That’s how she made me feel. She was the mom we all needed.
She said: I know, sweetheart. This hurts. I know. And it is not okay.
She got straight to my heart in such a deeply comforting way, and she’s my new personal hero.
We’ve had a black president, we’re about to have a female president (please), so now we are in need of a black female president… just saying……..

      • Tiffany :) says:

Her words really moved me as well. There is so much power in the way she uses her heart and positivity. She knows what to say to make me feel heard and understood.

      • Melly says:

I watched Michelle’s speech with my mom and in the middle of her speech my mom burst into tears. My mom is tough as nails, she never gets real emotional, but Michelle’s speech hit her hard. She’s been so disgusted with the election and everything Michelle said made her feel like everything is going to be ok. She wants Michelle to be president!

I guess no one remembers what she said about Hillary when her husband was running for president.

      • Tina says:

I would imagine that, after a divisive primary, the fact that Hillary put aside her grievances and went to work for her former opponent in one of the most demanding jobs in the federal government might have played some part in changing Michelle’s mind.

    • Amelia says:

It’s been a wonderful eight years, for sure, and that’s coming from someone observing from the other side of the Atlantic! She’s an incredible stateswoman.

      Obama/Warren 2024….?

      • LinaLamont says:

That would be nice. Unfortunately, she has no presidential/political ambitions. Her focus is family and activism. She’d be a great ambassador.

      • paranormalgirl says:

Even though she has no political aspirations now… maybe she’d consider Vice Presidency…Warren/Obama 2020. She would be good at whatever she put her mind to.

    • Kitten says:

      Gonna miss her so much.

      • eggy weggs says:

Me too. She’s so wonderful. So is Hillary.

      • Lady D says:

(heaves heavy sigh) Afraid you are right, Kitten.

      • Melly says:

I’m going to miss their entire family. They are all wonderful people who I’m proud to have represent me.

      • susanne says:

I am sure they will go on to do amazing work, without the pressures of the white house.
Michelle is just not a politician, and I think her immense skills could be used to good effect in the public sector.

  3. Soror Bro says:

Fair enough. But where are the impassioned speeches denouncing America’s wars?

    • Arlene says:

      Aw whataboutery, how are ye?

    • littlemissnaughty says:

Oh honey, you’re not going to derails the conversation. Not on this blog.

I can’t watch this until I get home tonight but I’m absolutely sure it’ll be worth sitting down with a glass of wine on a Friday evening. She’s such an inspirational figure.

      • Arlene says:

Sure, Soror Bro, that’s exactly what I said. Because a person can only have one opinion or thought at a time…

      • Soror Bro says:

I’m not trying to “derail’ anything. I’m just surprised that people who can get so worked up over injustice in some areas can be so indifferent about it in others. I think Trump is a moron and would never vote for him but that doesn’t mean I’m going to turn a blind eye to Clinton’s short comings to the point of acting like they don’t exist.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

@ Soror Bro, you’re confusing sticking to a topic that’s being discussed with not caring about anything but that topic. Or who are you talking to when you say “people”? You commented on this blog so I assume you mean us? War isn’t being discussed because this isn’t a news blog. This isn’t the comment section of the NYT. Trump is being discussed because … I mean how can you not? If I say “I care about the environment.” you say “But what about politics?” That doesn’t work.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Who are you calling indifferent? No, seriously. Where did you get that idea from? You are making assumptions based on ignorance.

People can have more than one issue they care about. Just because they focus on one in this specific moment doesn’t mean they don’t have positions on other issues. You are being intentionally obtuse and oversimplifying complex issues. Shame on you.

      • Soror Bro says:

@littlemissnaughty: The topic is the election.

        “Who are you calling indifferent”

People who aren’t making American imperialism and military spending an election issue by being vocal about their opposition to it. How do you feel about Clinton’s idea of imposing a no fly zone over Syria? Do you think it’s a good idea? Or will it put the U.S. and Russia on a path to war?

      • Tiffany :) says:

Yes, I wish the presidential debate could revolve around the nuances of things like military policy, but unfortunately, the Republican candidate has lowered the bar so far that we are left having to debate whether it is acceptable to sexually assault women. That shouldn’t be a question, but it is because of the comments of Trump and the people that defend him. Do not shame people for standing up strongly against a sexual assault advocate. It is JUST and RIGHT to stand up against such a message. There is no shame in that cause. You do not have moral superiority because you are focused on another topic.

Syria is a VERY complicated issue. I don’t know exactly how I feel about it. Right now, the Assad regime with Russia is bombing families and hospitals. They also are starving them, not letting human beings receive food or medical care. They are killing children right and left. An argument could be made that Russia is already at war. Should this go unchecked? Should modern society let governments kill their citizens in mass numbers? On the other hand, you have ISIS who is in the region and battling the regime. I think that there isn’t a clear answer as to how to get Assad & Russia to stop killing thousands, while at the same time preventing ISIS from taking control. A no-fly zone would be a measured step.

      • Soror Bro says:

If you’re indifferent about the destruction caused by American imperilism and corporate greed you deserved to be shamed.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Enough with your false dichotomy. You have no evidence that people are “indifferent”. You just keep throwing that out because you have nothing to stand on. You are trying to shut down a discussion on an important topic. There are many important topics that deserve discussion during an election.

      • Soror Bro says:

My evidence? No one on here ever speaks out against American imperialism and the instabilty the American goverment has caused in Libya and Iraq. If you educated yourself you would know that rape is rife in war zones like Libya and Iraq but people like yourself don’t speak out about how the policies that contribute to this are going to continue under both Trump and Clinton. And what’s worse is you attack people who do. People like you claim to abhor rape but your concern for victims stops at the border because when it happens to people outside of your country you see it as seperate issue even when your government has created the instabilty that allowed the attrocities to occur.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

@ Soror Bro: So that means you don’t care about the environment? Because you seem awfully focused on war. That must mean you don’t give a sh*t about our planet. I never see you talk about that on this site.

      • Soror Bro says:

Why it was only a few days ago that I was expressing admiration for Greens’ candidate Jill Stein.

    • toni says:

Stop trying to deflect attention from his predatory behaviour.

    • Original T.C. says:

Sorry if defending 50% of the population from physical, mental and emotional DAILY violence by repudiating TRUMP and rape culture is not a big enough thing for you. Must be nice to have all that freedom of being a man that us women don’t.

I’m sorry but to me this IS as important as wars and terrorism. Who do you think gets raped and suffers the most during wars? Women spend 90years of their lives fighting this type of violence. As has been said so often were Hillary a male, this election would have been a cake walk. Her negatives would have been seen as positive traits of a male politician.

      • original kay says:

I hope this link is posted. I think it speaks for itself. There are many kinds of wars to be fought, Soror. That they were taken in the first place is devastating.

        http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-37641101

      • Soror Bro says:

@TC: You’d be in the minority then because I’ve heard very little about America’s military spending and imperialism during this campaign. It’s all been about sexism and racism. However the concern for other races and women seems to stop at the border.

      • Kitten says:

        Preach, OTC!

      • Soror Bro says:

@original Kay: Indeed it is. But the most effective way to fight terrorism is to stop participating in it. If people are allowed to lead peaceful lives free from poverty and tyranny then they won’t be driven into the arms of terrorist organizations.

      • Flan says:

If there is one group of voters who are emotional (hateful) voters, it’s Trump voters, most of whom are male.

And yet they always pretend women are the stupid emotional voters.

This election really shines truth on falsehoods.

    • @sorobro Ohhhhhh,I’m pretty sure that WAS an impassioned speech denouncing one of America’s war. A war that is happening right on Americas soil, and ALL OVER THE WORLD, much worse in so many parts. One that is widespread. One that kills countless victims daily. A war upon which a movie titled “The Hunting Ground” was made. A civil war that is on the uprising now because a man in power came a knocking to remind us THIS IS A WAR WE MUST FIGHT FOR TOO.

A war to defend our bodies, for our voices, our rights, our brains, our intelligence, our wages…our own personal integrity. We have a right to live freely not in fear about someone stealing from us something that is often times irreplaceable.

      I stand with her.

      (Also; nice pivot.)

      • MsGoblin says:

        You rock, NOTDonaldsDarling!
Have you considered a future in public service? : )

      • Hahaa I felt very…very town hall speech maker, where then I stand up, grab the flag, wave it proudly and lead everyone out to…not sure what happens after that. I lead them out to the lawn? (:

    • jwoolman says:

As someone who is pretty passionate about stopping pointless wars – the most relevant thing is to keep Donald Trump out of the White House or else you will see troops sent hither and yon with wild abandon until he gets in a snit at 3am and decides to start WWIII. Then large areas of the world will be uninhabitable and uncultivatable. Including here, since the fallout and dust will find their way back to us also even if by some miracle there is no retaliation.

Any military actions by Hillary will be very minor in comparison. She’s pretty garden-variety in that aspect anyway (Americans are addicted to war and so politicians have a hard time getting elected if they object to it), but our job is to keep pushing and pulling every President to find other ways to deal with problems. With Hillary, we have a chance because she is sane and actually listens to a variety of views. With Donald – it will be chaos and there will be no chance for us to modify his behavior. He doesn’t listen to anyone except those voices in his head. So if you want a chance to reduce wars and warlets waged by the US, vote for Hillary regardless of policy differences you have with her. We can work with her to change her policies, we can’t work with Trump.

      • Aren says:

I just wanted to say that you bring out some very good points and I very much hope Hillary does have the strength to go against the violent side of America and stops bombing other countries.
In the end, all wars are pointless.

      • Soror Bro says:

Do you think Clinton’s idea to impose a no fly zone over Syria is a good one?

        https://sputniknews.com/politics/201610141046342123-us-nofly-zone-syria-clinton/

      • Tiffany :) says:

You linked to Sputnik?!?!? That is a Russian propaganda site!!!

      • Soror Bro says:

If you don’t like the site that posted that article there are many more echoing similar concerns about the potential consequences of a US imposed no fly zone over Syria. You do know that, right?

      • Tiffany :) says:

If you know there are other options, why did you link to that site? Why did you try to direct traffic to a Russian propaganda page, when there are other options? Your choices speak volumes.

      • Soror Bro says:

Not so much. I googled something like Clinton no fly zone over Syria and that was one of the first links to come up. I read the article and thought it made some great points. What part of the article did you disagree with?

      • jwoolman says:

Aren – yes, I’m old as dirt and all wars in my lifetime have quite definitely been pointless. I support the troops by trying to get them back home fast, if I can’t prevent them from going in the first place. No special knowledge is needed to judge the worth of an action, we just have to turn it around and ask how we would feel if we were being bombed in every city, if our water supplies were bombed, if we were invaded and occupied by a much larger country, if we had foreign military bases in every state, if the occupiers decided our elections, etc. No matter how bad our leaders – would it be worth losing our homes, burying our parents, spouses, children, brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors?

My brother is a serious Catholic (I’m the heretic) and we were talking about the morality of bombing cities in general. He was in Vietnam (unlucky draft lottery number). He surprised me by agreeing that it could never be moral to bomb cities, by its very nature such actions are disproportionate.

Centuries ago, Augustine devised Just War Theory to try to reduce the harm done by the endless wars of his day. They didn’t have modern WMDs but burning villages and towns was pretty effective in doing similar damage. So Augustine’s idea that a military action had to be proportionate and not cause more harm than it prevented was important. US Catholic bishops came out with a lengthy statement years ago showing the inherent immorality of nuclear war on that basis.

Unfortunately, most Americans still feel it’s morally acceptable to bomb other people in order to deal with their own fears. As long as voters believe that, they will elect people of like mind. We can at least try to elect those who will try other methods and if they use military action, will try to minimize damage to civilians and what civilians need to live. Just calling it “collateral damage” isn’t good enough. We don’t consider those who died in the towers on 9/11 as just collateral damage even if the hijackers had claimed to be only aiming at the cash registers.

    • Looty says:

Obama risked his political career by voting against the Iraq war when he was a senator. That was way before opposing the war was politically expedient. He has been working mightily to keep us out of wars evere since (to incessant criticism from the military industrial complex). Has all military aggression stopped? No, but he’s on the right side of history.

      • K says:

Obama wasn’t in the senate during the Iraq vote, he risked his legacy with the Iran diplomatic action (aka the right thing).

    • Bridget says:

Because we’re discussing the US’s Presidential Election. There are a lot of injustices in the world, and a lot of causes that are worthy of international attention. But we can’t talk about all things at all times.

      • Soror Bro says:

But that’s my point. The discussion is being dominated by talk about sexism and racism. And as I said, the concern for other races and women seems to stop at the border.

    • hmmm says:

      @Soror Bro,

You showed yourself to not even be an American, so you have little skin in this game. Nor can you see the forest for the trees. You’ve got a nerve coming onto this site, admonishing people and acting as if your vote matters.

  5. Nemera77 says:

Her speech was everything. And it hit home.

I’m also amazed that he has never come for her; when he comes for everyone else. That to me is very interesting.

    • lightpurple says:

If he did, Melania would have to stop stealing her speeches.

      • nemera77 says:

She is the most MIA candidate’s wife I have ever seen. She is not on the campaign trail stumping for him. She is not being interviewed. Every statement is through someone one else. And yet no one is commenting on it at all. Ivanka is taking the “wife position” in this campaign and that is weird. Especially since he actually does have a wife.

      • jwoolman says:

Melania isn’t suited for campaigning or making speeches and there’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t think we should assume a candidate’s spouse must be part of the campaign or must be active after election either. Spouses have their own lives and activities and should not be considered as part of a twofer. Some will be because of their particular skills and interests. But it’s not a healthy expectation and, since up to now it’s always been a woman who was supposed to drop everything else and promote her husband’s career — it’s an attitude that doesn’t fit well with modern concepts about the place of women.

    • Kaiser says:

The White House is basically daring/baiting Trump to come for FLOTUS. Like, Michelle wants that fight because she knows that as soon as he says one word about her, everyone will turn on him.

      http://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/warning-trump-attack-michelle-obama-229749

      • Lady D says:

The comment section: FLOTUS like a butterfly, sting like a bee. LOL

      • Melly says:

Exactly! It’s funny that Trump acts like a tough guy but doesn’t have the guts to try to take on Michelle. Michelle would eviscerate him, and look bomb as hell doing it.

    • Cran says:

He’s dead in the water if he comes for FLOTUS. I hope he is SEETHING and takes the bait and suffers humiliation on a level he has never imagined for all that he has engendered. I think it would be fitting for him to be so publicly brought to his knees by what he so deeply despises.

I in NO way wish to witness him attempt to attack Michelle Obama. As far as I’m concerned she is Empress of the Universe.

      • Delta Juliet says:

Her takedown of him would be EPIC. Now I kind of want to see it. Strong, powerful, intelligent woman with excellent and heartfelt use of the language pummeling that ignorant POS. BRING IT.

      • Melly says:

A strong, confident, powerful woman taking him down is great. A strong, confident, powerful woman OF COLOR taking him down would be poetic justice.

    • Bridget says:

Because FLOTUS is so far out of his league it’s a joke. Drumpf knows she will squash him like the bug he is.

    • Soror Bro says:

Yes. You’ve got to hand it to the Obamas – they’re very good at giving speeches.

      • norah says:

they are good at making speeches which matter and funny enough it is usually backed up by their actions. If you have issues with michelle obama at least say so no need to imply it

    • Sunglasses Aready says:

If Trump came after Michelle he would be unable to CONTROL himself. It would be epic, it would be vile, it would be racist. He would be like a wounded animal.

  6. C-No says:

Trending on Twitter right now: #WomenWhoVoteTrump. It’s terrifying. FLOTUS for POTUS, I say! Hopefully Hillary will set the precedent!

    • lucy2 says:

I won’t read that, but I just keep telling myself to feel sorry for those women. For whatever reason, they don’t believe they deserve self respect, or even safety for heaven’s sake.

      • Delta Juliet says:

I’ve had to unfriend a few people on FB over this. I just can’t wrap my head around anyone who supports Trump. ESPECIALLY women!

  7. cindy says:

This was so moving. Have to admit it made me cry a little. Rachel Maddow played it on her show last night and my husband and I were floored. This woman can speak. She said everything, just everything. I kinda don’t know what else to say? Getting teary again thinking about it. I’m gonna miss the Obamas so much. Oh god now I’m really gonna start balling and its only4:30 am. Gah! One more thing…..not saying his name was brilliant…..

    • Christin says:

Bill C was already avoiding saying his name on the campaign trail (referring to her ‘opponent’, etc.).

I think it’s brilliant, because it deprives the opponent’s ego of the publicity he craves and needs like oxygen.

      • MsGoblin says:

        ^^^^ Christin – Exactly. Exactly.

Cindy, I understand! I’m sitting here at work all teary-eyed having just watched FLOTUS’ entire speech. What an inspiration she is.

I’ve signed-up to work at one of HRC’s phone banks here in NYC.

        Who’s with me?

    • PunkyMomma says:

Saw the replay on Rachel Maddow, too. The epitome of grace – I’m so going to miss the Obamas. What an example they set for us.

    • Kitten says:

This is her calling without a doubt. Every. Single. Time. It’s a homerun.
And chills too…don’t forget the chills…

    • Aren says:

Same here, I started crying when I began reading it.

      • antipodean says:

I suspect that this speech will take it’s place alongside The Gettysburg Address, The I Have A Dream, and The Yes We Can orations in the annals of American/World history. I don’t think anyone has truly appreciated the luminous and inspiring grace of Michelle Obama until now. She just keeps getting better and better, and I will miss her terribly when she leaves the White House. What a clarion call to the very best in ALL of us. This is what we should all constantly aspire to, to be the very best we can be, and always go high, never low. She is so right that the vast army of women in this great country will hopefully send the disgusting opponent on his way, and his vile empire will fall to ruin as others before his all have.

  8. aquarius64 says:

The speech was excellent. Meanwhile Bill Clinton’s accusers are no where on the news now. Trump’s plan to use them just backfired because the press is focusing on Donald’s accusers and Trump is attacking those women. When that happened, Bill’s accusers became expendable to Team Trump.

    • Soror Bro says:

The press is focusing exclusively on attacking Trump now. I feel like every time I see any coverage about the election it’s an attack piece on him and it could backfire. There was a pundit on the news last night saying that the polls don’t mean a Clinton victory is certain, because the polling for Brexit also indicated that the stay vote was going to get up and look at what happened there. He went on to say that perhaps people are lying about who they’re going to vote for because they don’t want to admit they’re voting for Trump. Or maybe they’re not asking the type of people who are likely to vote for Trump when they do their polling. Suffice to say it ain’t over until it’s over.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

Yes. It’s mostly attack pieces now – or, you know, reporting – because he keeps delivering the material. His bs could feed an entirely new news network. I’m not a fan of 24h news but in this case, there aren’t even enough hours in the day to keep up with and dissect the horrendous things he spews. THIS, for once, really isn’t the press’ fault.

      • Kitten says:

        @littlemissnaughty-LOL. Exactly.

      • Alarmjaguar says:

Vote, vote, vote, vote! Don’t get complacent. This isn’t over until Nov 8!

      • Lady D says:

What time on the 8th will you know for sure who the president is? Does voting take all day or will we know by say 9:00am?

      • SMD says:

Sorobro, I would love to hear more details about foreign policy from either candidate. But it seems to me DT is so woefully ignorant when any questions are raised about foreign policy he does the whole interrupting waiving hands sniffing hard “I’ve got huge plans, defeat Isis,” which is not a well thought out plan, ahem. Also, I agree with you that when DT was claiming all Mexicans were rapists and Muslims were terrorists there wasn’t enough outrage. He’s shown who he was from the start, but many people have 1 or 2 hot button issues that sway them towards or away from a candidate. His supporters appear to be able to ignore anything else as long as he protects the country from “outsiders” which is horrifying. The problem now gorgeous the GOP is that DT has now shown the underbelly of the party.

      • Christin says:

@Lady D — It will be very late that evening (at least for us East Coasters) due to different time zones.

      • Bridget says:

Is it “attacking” when it’s directly reporting the things he says? Not to mention, it’s not like he has any sort of policies that they can discuss.

      • lightpurple says:

@LadyD, polls in East Coast states close at 7 or 8 PM EST, depending on the state, and then, as the evening rolls out across the time zones, more states close their polls. The media does not begin announcing results until after 10 PM because it has been found that announcing how an east coast state voted while west coast polls are still open might cause voters to figure their vote doesn’t count and stay home. Some states tally quickly, others slowly. And any projections have to be based on the electoral college numbers. Senate races will be settled throughout the night and those will be called as soon as possible.

      • Lady D says:

So plan for a late night on the 8th, then. Thanks for the info, all.
Does Fox News include itself in the media that will wait for the east coast to close?

    • nemera77 says:

I was reading a comment on some site and this person was speculating that Trump was going to use the Clinton accuser in the first debate but changed his mind. Remember when he said he was going to “do something against the Clintons but Chelsea was in the audience. So after he was not declared “The Winner”.. did what he always does.. acts like a baby and went a low. For him that didn’t work. Because if you are going to call someone dirty make sure you are very clean.
And yes he used those women, but they allowed themselves to be used and PAID for this stunt.

      • MsGoblin says:

Are we sure he actually PAID them? He has a habit of not paying his vendors. Since these women did not create the results he wanted, I’m sure he feels justified in not paying them.

  9. Bex says:

    She is incredible.

    • Pix says:

Truly incredible. Her convention speak inspired me to register to vote – seriously. I’m voting in this year’s election because of Michelle.

      • Flan says:

Good for you. Keep voting, Pix, whether it’s for president or someone more local.

        Your voice matters.

  10. Skyblue says:

I love that he dare not say a word about her!

    • Christin says:

A bully usually steers clear of those who are strong enough to call out their weaknesses. If he goes for her, the entire schoolyard would be on him.

    • BritAfrica says:

He stands no chance of being able to take her down, that’s why.

  11. Neelyo says:

The Obamas have never needed to speak their enemies’ name. I think it drives Sarah Palin batshit crazy that they’ve ignored her all of these years.

The White House threw down a gauntlet to Trump that he better not come after FLOTUS. They’re daring him to say something because that will really be the end for him. He must be having the most epic tantrums right about that he’s losing to a woman and now another woman, a BLACK woman is taking him down spectacularly.

    • Another Anne says:

Where IS Sarah Palin? Did the Republican Party kidnap her and confine her to quarters for the election? Can’t believe we haven’t seen her spouting off nonsense with all the other talking heads. I thought she was crazy, but Trump may have her beat.

      • Neelyo says:

I was wondering where she was too. She was one of his first supporters, finger pistols ablazing to support him last year. I thought she’d be all out there getting as much publicity as she could, striking while the iron is hot and all. He can’t be too crazy for her.

      • AreYouKittenMe? says:

        She’s still word-salading on Twitter.

      • lucy2 says:

I think Trump tried bringing her in early on and 1) she got a very lukewarm response that didn’t help him and 2) she probably tried to hog the spotlight.
Or, given the news this week, maybe he tried to take her furniture shopping and she’s spent the last few months throwing up.

      • Another Anne says:

“tried to take her furniture shopping” – DEAD. Thanks for the laugh, lucy2. 🙂

      • Cran says:

I like to imagine her in her yard with a telescope aimed at Russia hoping to get a glimpse of Putin with his shirt off 🙄. With Todd doing donuts around her in a motorized contraption of some sort trying to get her attention.

      • Bridget says:

Honestly, I just don’t think that people care what she says as much.

      • lightpurple says:

I’ve been wondering if Todd’s injuries from the snow mobile accident were more severe than they have made known and his rehab requires a lot of her attention.

    • Lady D says:

Gotta admit, the thought of Trump having epic tantrums made me smile. Petty of me I know, but after the grief this animal has fostered, I needed that grin.

  12. Tiffany27 says:

She is such an amazing HUMAN. I’m so grateful we got to experience her as our first lady. If I can be 1/8 the person she is I will be happy.

    • Esmom says:

      Hear, hear.

Unfortunately I fear she’s preaching to the choir. Because Trump supporters won’t give her the time of day, never have. They’re just as awful about her as they are about Hillary.

      • boredblond says:

I think you’re right, but considering she has a higher approval rating than both candidates (and her husband) perhaps there are independents who will listen and ‘get it’. You could feel her passion and frustration through the screen..quite remarkable.

      • Rose says:

But she’s preaching to the protest voters or the people who weren’t going to vote at all. I’m in the UK and things over here are so scary post-brexit, looking to you guys now to not let a total cockup happen in your elections too.

  13. original kay says:

I watched it yesterday, and cried a little too. Such a beautiful person she is.

We’ll watch as a family this weekend, my 15 year old daughter and 9 year old son. The message that women are not for sale, not commodities, cannot be said enough.

    • Another Anne says:

Exactly this. They played the whole speech last night on tv, and I grabbed our sons to watch, because her message is so important to kids. And it’s rare for boys to hear the message expressed so eloquently and completely.

  14. MI6 says:

THIS IS what it means to have compassion, integrity and intelligence. This person and her husband are lights shining on America during a very dark time.
    May the light prevail.

    • lucy2 says:

      Well said.
We all need to try to do the same, be a light in the darkness.

    • LiterallyaShambles says:

“While most of America seems to be getting more and more divisive, I’m going to be holding open doors for strangers, letting people cut in front of me in traffic, greeting all I meet, exercising patience with others, and smiling at strangers.
I will do this as often as I have the opportunity. I will not stand idly by and let children live in a world where unconditional love is invisible and rudeness is acceptable.
Join me in showing love and respect to others. Find a way to swing the pendulum in the direction of love. Because today, sadly, hate is gaining ground.
Love must begin somewhere and love will overcome hate. Imagine the difference if we each purposefully love a little more. ”

  15. Maya says:

Poetic justice – Trump the weak bully who has demeaned and treated women like slaves is being done by strong women such as Michelle, Hillary and Elizabeth Warren.

A bully and a male chauvinist is a weak, insecure man who goes running away when confronted by women.

  16. Sullivan says:

Gosh, I’m going to miss her. She is the epitome of dignity and grace. An antidote for the nasty Trump virus we’ve had to endure.

  17. zan says:

She’s amazing. Her speech was so powerful and honest. I’m canadian and it made me cry of emotion. The world will miss her

  18. Jess says:

She is amazing. This speech is amazing. He is loathsome and must not win the presidency.

  19. LinaLamont says:

I’m going to miss that woman so much. She’s intelligent, strong, funny, fun, warm, passionate… and, on a shallow note, stunning (the whole family is such a beautiful portrait). Yeah, the whole family is a portrait of grace and dignity, especially, considering the vile and crude comments and behavior they’ve had to face from deplorables these past 8 years.

  20. The Original Mia says:

Amazing speech by an amazing woman. I found myself nodding and agreeing with everything she said. It brought up memories of men who stood too close, who touched uninvited. Drumpf’s words disgusted me, but Michelle’s speech floored me.

  21. Trillion says:

Trump on the ropes is giving me hope.

  22. Insomniac says:

Love her. And her husband dubbed her “The Closer” for a reason; Clinton is really smart to have her on the trail.

  23. iseepinkelefants says:

I’ve grown up with men my entire life. I was raised with all boys. I have always felt closest to guys so I always more guy friends and I didn’t grow up with guys talking like that. It kind of saddens me that American men are even being painted in the same league as Trump because in my 30 years, I’ve known men that do not act like this and it’s kind of sad to see them all painted this way. I have never heard a guy boast about sexual assaulting a woman and if I had ever heard I can tell you I wouldn’t be friends with them.

    • lucy2 says:

I’ve never heard men speak that way either, and the same thing.

The Daily Show last night interview a bunch of Trump supporters. Every time one of them said “it’s locker room talk”, the interviewer said “Do you talk that way?” and they all said no. But still didn’t see the problem and were still defending him….

  24. Minxx says:

She’s amazing. I’m not even American and it made me tear up a bit. Compassion, integrity, intelligence and positive energy. Trump needs to disappear from the map and it would be poetic justice to have women finish him in the end.

  25. naomipaige says:

    You go girl!!!

  26. Pansy says:

I’m not a Hillary fan (I’m pretty conservative–different philosophies about a lot of things), but my gosh. How on this EARTH is someone as vile as this man running for the highest elected position? I listen to her speech, then check out headlines in the AJC and a woman was killed by her ex while returning her engagement ring yesterday. THIS is the kind of violence towards women, the kind of male elitism that this man is perpetrating! This will only get worse when boys will be boys and smug grins are the norm in the most revered office in our land if he is elected. I’m no Hillary fan, but I would NEVER vote for this man. Surely he won’t win. Surely.

    • CityGirl says:

As long as everyone who would never vote for him, votes for Hillary Clinton instead, he will not win. It’s not enough to just not vote for him unfortunately. We’ve got to get out there and vote: stand in line for hours, absentee ballot, whatever, do what we gotta do!

  27. FLORC says:

This is an amazing speech. Executed perfectly. Tears in my eyes and jaw on the floor awesomeness.

  28. Lana Banana says:

Most of the University students I work with either wont vote because neither candidate is worth it in their eyes or will write in Harambe/Bernie Sanders. Not even lying on that which is sad. No one on the ballot appeals to me either. The only good thing to come out of this election is to show a dire need for the end to the corrupt 2 party system.

In any case Michelle Obama is the grace we need in these times and I appreciate that, no matter what.

    • jwoolman says:

Good luck to all of you if Trump is elected. He will merrily smash programs that are helpful to students and young adults, just as Reagan did as he attempted to dismantle so much of the government. Hope you haven’t become attached to affordable health insurance. Trump will try to destroy the Affordable Care Act, which let me get insurance after I had to drop mine when the premiums reached 53% of my income pre-ACA. Also expect a draft to support more and more wars. The next draft won’t have educational deferments and will apply to both men and women. The military had unhappy experiences with soldiers who were college-educated and old enough to realize they are mortal, so they will not make that mistake again. They will draft kids straight out of high school. Also enjoy food shortages when crops fail or become inedible because Mr. Trump decided to play with the nuclear codes and launched those nuclear missiles and bombers, carrying weapons of mass destruction that backfire on the user. Oh, enjoy having abortion illegal again and access to birth control and reproductive care and disease screening severely limited.

You don’t have to agree with all the policies of a candidate to vote for them. I’ve been voting for decades and have never voted for someone who completely matches my preferences. Look for signs of sanity and willingness to work with others of diverse views, as Hillary has. Then you can work on the issues most important to you, and try to influence the policies with which you disagree. Also look at the other candidate – if he or she is awful enough, you really have to vote for the one who is less awful because in this country, one of this two people will be President.

Trump will be impossible to work with and is incredibly dangerous. He is unbalanced, spiteful, vindictive, thin-skinned, and ignorant about how government works or what the world is like. When there is a dangerous demagogue on the ballot, you really need to vote for “the lesser of two evils”. Otherwise you are letting the demagogue take over. I think Hillary will be a decent President and not an evil one, but regardless of how you think about her – if you see how dangerous Trump is, the goal has to be to keep him out of the White House. Hillary at least won’t start WWIII and knows where all the other countries are on the map…. Ask your student friends to study up on 1930s Germany to see how easy it is to trap a country in the hands of a demagogue who preaches hatred and fear of anyone different.

    • Bridget says:

So you think the solution is just to not participate? You know that’s how we got into this mess in the first place, right? The 2 party system ISN’T corrupt, it’s the fact that we’ve allowed people to gain power that are corrupt. And you know how that happened? We stopped paying attention. Instead of complaining, how about asking yourself what you can do to fix it.

  29. Cee says:

I truly believe Michelle Obama is one of the most influential and poweful women not only in the US but in the world. I hope she continues in the public sphere because she is amazing and what true role models are made of.

    • lucy2 says:

Me too. I have to think she has so much passion for making things better that she will – especially now.

    • Abbess Tansy says:

Me three. She has so much to offer to the country and the world. I shall certainly miss her. One of our best first ladies.

  30. mellie says:

She gave me goose bumps and made me instantly realize how much I am going to miss this lady. I really, really hope we see her in the future.

  31. TyrantDestroyed says:

She inspires us, thank you Michelle for existing and raising your voice. I am being selfish because I know her family comes first but I really hope she stays in the public eye. We really need more role models like she is for our younger generations.

  32. paranormalgirl says:

I have so much admiration for Michelle Obama. So much. She is wonderful.

  33. Annie says:

Genuinely love her. She and President Obama are such good, decent people and I have been so proud these last eight years having them to represent and lead our country.

    Her speech was magnificent.

  34. Green Is Good says:

FLOTUS didn’t say HRC’s opponent’s name once. She ripped away his power. GOOD.

He/him/ that guy doesn’t dare issue a rebuttal, because he is incapable of issuing a coherent, intelligent response.

  35. Jenn says:

    Michelle for president.

  36. Madpoe says:

Michele’s speak lifted me up into the stratosphere! The MOST inspirational speech i have heard in a long long time. she gave me goosebumps!!!

  37. Laura says:

Is there any way to swap Hillary for Michelle?! Michelle is extremely intelligent, passionate, articulate, genuine, and – although it doesn’t matter – Michelle is beautiful!!! Inside and out! I am Canadian so I know my opinion doesn’t matter, but I love Barrack and Michelle Obama – they seem like really down to earth, kind hearted, funny and all around amazing people…I would love to meet them someday!

I feel sad for America though….the choice for the next president will be difficult because neither candidate is truly suited for the job. Trump is an ignorant fool and Hillary is a robotic liar.

    • Betsy says:

      OH MY GOD.

    • AreYouKittenMe? says:

Trump is an ignorant fool AND a robotic liar.

      There. fixed it for ya.

    • Tara says:

I too would like to switch out Hillary for Michelle.

    • Lacia Can says:

Never mind that it’s been proven six ways from Sunday that HRC is one the most honest politicians – you know she’s a liar. As one Canadian to another, I say open your eyes. She’s been fighting opposition her entire career; every piece of p00 the Rs can fling at her has been flung. Nothing sticks because none of it has validity.

      • Flan says:

        Thanks, Lacia.

People are just repeating that she is a liar, because they heard it somewhere and don’t want to seem gullible.

While, she is actually pretty honest for a politician.

      • hmmm says:

And they’re too lazy to do research but not too lazy to have an opinion.

  38. Eric says:

I will miss Michelle also. Always appreciated her candor and humor on Ellen et al.

  39. popup says:

She is so incredibly charismatic and a uniquely gifted orator. I don’t know whether she had this talent before Barack ran for president the first time, but my God, she is amazing. She put into words what so many women (and men) felt when that video came out. She connects emotionally, she connects intellectually.

Is it too much to say she is our generation’s Eleanor Roosevelt?

  40. Heather says:

So much yes! I did not think I could love, admire and respect this woman any more. She simply blows me away. We are blessed to have Michelle as FLOTUS. Her words are a ray of hope in this otherwise dismal campaign season!

  41. Giddy says:

I absolutely adore FLOTUS. I’ve been so darn proud to have her representing not just America, but what an American woman can be, to the world. It’s just so wonderful to have Michelle speaking against the orange scourge. She is beautiful, impassioned, intelligent, thoughtful, all the things a cheeto can’t even aspire to be. How it must kill him to know he has been bested by by women: Hillary, Michelle, Elizabeth Warren etc. I voted yesterday and it felt good!

  42. MellyMel says:

Basically cosigning everything y’all are saying. I love this woman and everything she stands for. I want to be her when I grow up. I know she won’t run but she seriously would be an amazing president. And I can’t think about her and Barack leaving the White House or I start crying. Gonna miss them so much!

    • hmmm says:

She would have to be tough as nails. That kind of eloquence usually doesn’t go with a hard head. You have to sacrifice a bit of your humanity to be a successful politician, IMO. I like her just the way she is.

  43. K says:

She is amazing and America did not deserve her as First Lady, we are so lucky for the last 8 years.

Also everything she said was right on.

  44. Lolo says:

I adore this woman. She’s amazing

  45. Goo says:

Destroyed? Hardly… If Michelle was so “hurt” by Trumps words, maybe she needs to pay attention to her friend Jay Z’s lyrics. Now, those are hurtful to ALL women. But, you never hear her complaining about those disgraceful words.

    • HK9 says:

Jay Z is not running for president.

    • lightpurple says:

No, not hurtful to ALL women because ALL people do not pay attention to Jay-Z, listen to Jay-Z, give credence to his views of women, or buy his music.

You also do need to realize and acknowledge that, as far as we know, Jay-Z has not engaged in illegal conduct in a workplace setting in violation of the EEOA. Donald Trump has.

    • Tina says:

The problem is not the words. The problem is that he is bragging about having committed the actions. Jay-Z is not claiming that he has actually done the things he writes about in his songs. Not only is Trump claiming that he has done those things, it has been corroborated by multiple women that he has actually done those things.

  46. HK9 says:

    Michelle Obama is my hero.

  47. Hazel says:

That was one of the all time greatest political speeches ever. Ever. I cried.

  48. embertine says:

I know the YAASSS QUEEN thing is over-used and a bit appropriative, but I cannot think of any more fitting reaction. Can she come and be FLOTUK instead?!

  49. The New Classic says:

What exactly would the chances be for her to run for president in 2024? I am absolutely being serious about this. I would vote for her in a heartbeat and I’m sure I’m not the only person who feels this way. Does she have political ambitions? I honestly believe she is what America needs.

    • Anni says:

I’m in. Let’s make this happen.

    • Daisy says:

Zero. Michelle has been very clear that she has no political ambitions. In fact, she has made it known that, while she supports her husband, she is looking forward very much to the end of Obama’s term and a return to a more normal family life.

  50. Beckysuz says:

That was amazing. I was tearing up listening. So much truth. It’s not about politics, but right and wrong. That just stirred my soul

  51. CareBear says:

    Tears, shine on Goddess.

  52. Anni says:

Michelle for Secretary of State! And then…..PRESIDENT!

If only she would. God, we need her at the helm………

  53. callmeishmael says:

I caught wind of this on Twitter and sat up in bed, watching Michelle Obama’s speech from beginning to end. I had tears in my eyes. An impassioned, deadly, righteous, unbelievably powerful demolition of malignant attitudes and behaviours, and just why it’s so crucially important – not just for women but for society – to fight them wherever and however they manifest. She articulated perfectly everything I’ve felt in my adult life. I’m in awe of her.

  54. JRenee says:

    She was amazing!

  55. Stella in NH says:

If I didn’t have work obligations, I would have gone to see her–I live only twenty miles from where she spoke. What a powerful woman.

  56. Sophie says:

    Michelle 2020!!

  57. A says:

I love Michelle Obama from the bottom of my heart. I love her speech.

This is the politics I want. This is the country and the world I want. I want a system that is rooted in compassion and kindness for others. Where what you do for others comes from a place of respect and basic human decency. The world is hardly ever perfect, but damnit, if we don’t even try for something good, then what’s the point y’know?

But yeah. Thanks Obama. I mean that sincerely.

    • mee says:

Amazing woman and amazing man. The Obamas give great speech – they inspire us to be the best we can, not the worst. This is what true role models/leaders do and we have been very lucky to have had such a smart, thinking, honorable, and inspiring POTUS and FLOTUS.

  58. Jane says:

I will simply say this… I am in utter tears from the joy and inspiration I received as a result of listening to this lovely woman. I wish I knew her personally; for I feel she could bring me out of any darkness I feel with the stressful job I have. President Obama in one h*** of a lucky man to have this woman in his life. We are lucky to have her as our First Lady.

  59. Leslie james says:

I am for Hillary but don’t understand how everyone is so worked up about trump’s comments. Males talk like this every single day!!

    • Ange says:

Some do, most don’t. And if you hear them speaking like that demand better from the men you allow in your life. I assure you they are capable of it.

    • shura says:

Can you imagine what came out of the mouth of, for example, JFK and Clinton while behind doors? oy! Would probably make even this hard hearted New Yorker blush. “Locker room talk”- and I’m not convinced Trump’s comments are just that – is what it is. tbh I don’ begrudge men this. But have the decency to keep it behind those doors. And if a woman, much less the nation, happens to hear it, commence groveling.

    • Tina says:

It’s not the talk that’s the main problem (although that’s bad enough). The actions are the main problem. The actions that Trump has done, as confirmed by multiple accusers.

    • Betsy says:

I think you need to revisit who you consort with.

  60. shura says:

I didn’t vote for Obama, either race. I vote Repub as often as I do Democrat. But dayum. She is full on superb. Exceptional speech, exceptional speaker.

  61. Nikki says:

I adored her speech. I’m a fan girl forever!!

  62. maryquitecontrary says:

She spoke to us because she KNOWS us. Thank you, First Lady. Nobody else has spoken to us like they SEE us. We work. We caretake. We raise children. We keep the house cleaned, the fridge filled, the dogs fed. We come home to a third job. WE DO IT ALL.
    VOTE.

  63. Jezza says:

How lucky to have such an smart, articulate, gracefull, strong woman as FLOTUS. That speach was a masterclass!!. Michelle spoke with such passion and conviction and she took him down without even uttering his name to do it. Everything she said, and the way she said it – she went high. She didn’t stoop to his level and berate him or call him names. She took him down and still went high. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

she is a queen and a national treasure.

i actually wouldn’t like to see her as president. it’s like, i love her too much to see the abuse they would put her through.

  65. ickythump says:

She put into words what we all feel – it is rare in this day and age to hear someone speak with genuine emotion – heartwarming – a Shining light in the darkness.

  66. HeyThere! says:

Omg. She’s amazing. She had me in tears. This is exactly how I feel. To a T.

My husband and I just got into a very heated debate/fight about how he’s voting for Trump. Maybe it’s because he’s a man and doesn’t have to worry about sexual assault that it seems ‘made up and bias reporting’ to him???? My husband said he saw a video that had Clinton saying you could ‘abort a baby up until it’s due date and that should be OK’. We are going to have to just not talk about the election anymore. 🙁

  67. Chaz says:

Michelle Obama should run for President. She is better choice than Clinton or Trump.
She is an intelligent and powerful woman.
Bravo to her for saying what everyone with a lick of common sense is thinking.

  68. Hydrangea says:

No words for how touching and powerful this was.

  69. Justamea says:

Hillary is incapable of running the country, ask obama…they are his words.
