Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton at ‘TLBO’ London premiere: fab or fug?

wenn29813194

Last night was the big London premiere of The Light Between Oceans, the film where Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander fell in love. It is coincidentally the film where I began to fall out of love with Fassy, because my God, he is looking rough these days. I pulled up some closeups of Fassy at the premiere and I finally saw what the Fass-critics always said about him. For me though, I think it’s mostly about how much his hair sucks these days.

But enough about Fassbender. Let’s talk fashion! Alicia Vikander wore Louis Vuitton, because she is still brand ambassador and model for Louis Vuitton and has been for more than two years. It is a collaboration that I truly hope brings her a nice paycheck year after year, because that’s the only reason I see for why she would continue with this mess. Vikander JUST won the Oscar, so why does it feel like LV gives her Michelle Williams’ discards?

All things considered though, this isn’t the worst LV dress she’s ever worn. I was looking at a close-up of the fabric and it’s really, really pretty. It would have made a beautiful long sundress, or something with a more boho vibe. The problem is the actual design of the dress, with the puffy sleeves and the Totally ‘90s silhouette. The peplum is also a huge problem. Look at the full-length photos and tell me something: doesn’t it seem like she’s styled to look a bit like the Duchess of Cambridge? The Nashville hair, the puffy shoulders, the floral print. It feels very Duchess Kate. The difference is that Alicia’s makeup is WAY better than Kate’s. Also: Alicia wore some stunning Bulgari earrings (which we can’t even see because HAIR).

You know what labels would work really well on Alicia? Michael Kors. Burberry. Armani. She needs something cleaner and more consistent.

It looks like a Laura Ashley dress from the 80’s. Either that or something from the show Sister
    Wives.

    • tegteg says:

Haha I can see it. I was thinking Laura Ingalls Wilder.

    • Lucretia says:

Jessica McClintock! Gunne Sax! I’m reliving my 80s adolescence!

      • Jessica Bohatch says:

Yes Gunny Sax! I had this exact dress when I was 12 in a different color that I wore as a junior bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding. Exact dress.

      • KiddVicious says:

Yes, Gunne Sax! I wore a Gunne Sax to my prom.

The dress looks good on her, it fits her well. Just a little dated.

      • bonzo says:

I had a Gunne Sax dress at 14 after years of begging my mom to buy one. I thought of that too, when I saw her dress.

I love her hair… one of the best styles she’s worn ever.

    • Mari says:

It looks like the exact pattern of my parents’ couch in the 80s. So much so I’m having childhood flashbacks.

    • holly says:

      milkmaid territory

  2. Zan says:

    She looks good, very elegant

    • mbh12 says:

      She is so beautiful.
Not sure about the dress. Not into the print or style.

They look happy . I thought reports were they split? Glad to see them together.

    • ichsi says:

SHE is beautiful. The dress is a catastrophe. As is the whole partnership with LV and whoever styles her. There’s such great raw material there and this is what they do. Ridiculous.

  3. Aiobhan Targaryen says:

That dress is tragic. It reminds me of a dress that my mom wore to work often in the every 90s, this one is just longer and frumpier.

Her hair and makeup are good, though.

    • Dhavynia says:

It reminds me of those long dresses worn in the 90s with the terrain boots. I think Winona Ryder wore those a lot back in the grunge days.
Pretty material but wrong dress style

  4. kiki says:

Why are they promoting this mess of a movie, to gain what… award, seriously? I have watched the movie and I thought the movie is really boring, long and just god awful. Before, the Alicia Stuckander fans get on my butt, Michael asskissender is not off the hook. THEY ARE BOTH SELL OUTS AND THEY DESERVE EACH OTHER.

As for fashion, I am not surprised about Alicia LV ensemble, she has no fashion sense at all. As for Michael, he looks tired and fed up with all this mess, but he made his bed and he will lay in it.

    • Jayci says:

      Bitter much …?

    • uninspired username says:

They probably still consider it an awards contender even though it flopped AND has negative reviews.

    • Mia4S says:

Nothing to do with awards. No big mystery, it is just starting an international roll out. The movie is starting to open in foreign countries so they promote it. And considering they are both bigger stars in Europe it will likely make some decent box office.

He looks good, dress is meh, moving on.

      • kiki says:

The movie flopped everywhere, my friends. And you right… just because the movie flopped doesn’t mean it is not a good movie, but this movie to me is utter nonsense.

Yes, I am bitter because I am mad at Michael Fassbender. I have alread known what Alicia “Twinkle Toes” Vikander is about and it is going well for her and her “ambition” but Michael Fassbender just sold his soul to the movie devils to become a blockbuster movie actor which he is not.

    • Spiderpig says:

Well, it is literally their job. They are contractually obligated to promote it.

    • Original T.C. says:

“THEY ARE BOTH SELL OUTS AND THEY DESERVE EACH OTHER.”

Oh my. Still going with the “fake relationship” bit? After a year and a half? I know it’s painful when an actor you like falls in love with someone that you don’t like but just because you don’t like the woman does not mean the relationship is “forced” on him.

See Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendez.

      • kiki says:

I don’t care if they are fake or real. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendez are real because they didn’t publicize their relationship for fame or fortune. Which is why the (AV and MF) are both sell outs. But I am not mad at AV ( even though I still think she is a cold, distant STUCK UP) that is her nature, I am mad of Michael Fassbender because he want to be a blockbuster movie star like Leo or Brad,, which he is not.

So Yeah… They are sell outs.

      • Original T.C. says:

” I am mad of Michael Fassbender because he want to be a blockbuster movie star like Leo or Brad,, which he is not.”

Actually it’s the reverse: he was doing Blockbuster films BEFORE he met Alicia and has been doing mainly small Indie films since he met her with the exception of Steve Jobs which was a prestige film.

He worked with Brad Pitt on two films BEFORE he met Alicia. There has been no rumors that he isn’t still friends with or willing to work with Steve McQueen. Like your argument literally has no basis in fact or reality. It seems that you hate his girlfriend and are trying to blame her for non-existentant problems.

I brought up Eva and Gosling because there were Gosling fans who also hated Eva for not being “the right shade” for Gosling (but they disguised it by talking about her “bad personality”) and would come up with irrational interpretations of their relationship and how much she is hurting his career contrary to the facts.

      • bonzo says:

Thank you, Original T.C. for bring some facts and reality to this post.

    • I Choose Me says:

Say what now? How is he a sellout?

      • kiki says:

Yes he is a sell out.

      • Jayci says:

Kiki I mean this in the nicest way possible but seriously maybe you need to take a step back…

      • kiki says:

Is it wrong to say what I want? I am a passionate for the arts. Don’t get me wrong, I wished them all the best in everything. However, Michael Fassbender was an indie darling until he become bigger than his boots. I don’t care for his STUCK UP girlfriend anymore I have said my piece about her over the past 2 years. What really disappoints me about MIchael Fassbender is since when did he give a sh*t about what people thinks about him… He chooses great roles until he decides that he should choose roles to become a big Hollywood star like Leonard DiCaprio… I really miss the old him. Now he is kissing a** to Harvey Weinstein, Cian oh what’s his face and the major people. I get it.. you want an Academy Award, then start finding some great roles and great directors like David Lynch, Steven Sodenberg and Martin Scorcese or better yet GO BACK TO STEVE MCQUEEN. They made a great team. I WILL GIVE MICHAEL FASSBENDER MORE RESPECT IF HE DID MOVIES THAT MEANT SOMETHING TO HIM THAN JUST BEING FAMOUS. That’s all.

If anyone has a problem. THEN SUE ME

      • Mia4S says:

Movies that meant something to him like? Maybe like Tomas Alfredson’s next film and a low budget indie with Brenden Gleeson?Which are both among his next projects coming soon.

He’s striking a terrific balance and using his increased name recognition to get passion projects made. I give him kudos for that.

      • bonzo says:

        Mia4S, I agree.

kiki, you’re entitled to your passionate opinion, no matter how off-the-rails it appears to me and I’m entitled to my opposing one. But using all caps to shout out your opinion and telling people to sue you if they don’t like it doesn’t really bring any credibility to your argument. It just makes it look like you may have skipped your medication this morning.

Maybe you’re a little too invested in Fassy and need to take a couple steps back. It’s just acting… entertainment for the masses. It’s not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

    • SusanneToo says:

Very funny! A parody of a butthurt rabid fan, right? Has to be the only explanation.

    • Dorys says:

Ohhh, somebody needs a serious reality-check.. Fan entitlement: You are doing it fantastic!! LOL

  5. lightpurple says:

She looks like she FEELS pretty in the dress and that has to count for something. Otherwise, it looks like a Jessica McClintock gunne sax bridesmaid dress from the 80s

  6. Abigail says:

Both gorgeous people, and a great movie–I loved it. I think he looks terrific, and very happy; so does she. I don’t like LV on the whole, but this is a pretty dress.

    • Lurker says:

I haven’t read the book admittedly, but I believe it’s set in Australia, so I’m wondering how they do with accents? Bad accents are a bit of a deal breaker for me, so I may or may not go see the film, I haven’t decided yet.

      • Abigail says:

They just use a British accent; in some of the publicity, there was a discussion about the fact that what we see (or hear) as the traditional “Australian” accent was not standard until after World War II. Everyone in the film sounds the same to me, including the Australian actors. The accents aren’t distracting.

      • Nicecream says:

I’ve only seen the trailer but Fass and Rachel sound pretty English while Alicia didn’t speak much. The supporting cast member who speaks sounds very true blue Aussie though. I’m pretty sure recent studies have established that there’s been a distinct Aussie accent since at least the 1870s, though you’ll hear a more formal, clipped, almost British accent in Aussie radio/tv recordings (for news, etc) from the ’50s and ’60s.

  7. Alix says:

Pretty dress, but lose the peplum.

  8. Alleycat says:

How does Michael look rough? I think he looks great, and sure he’s gotten older, but I’d rather him look natural and aging rather than any type of surgery fakeness. Alicia looks really pretty in this dress, and I’d totally wear it.

  9. HK9 says:

I had a shower curtain with that print in 1985 so no to the dress.

  10. Bex says:

I’d love it without the peplum on somebody 10 years older. Fassbender just looks like somebody ageing naturally to me. I feel like we’ve half forgotten what that looks like on film nowadays.

  11. Seraphina says:

I think from the bust up she looks great but I got lost somewhere in the middle with this dress.

Ahhhhhh Fassey, I’m still with you. I think he’s awesome no matter what.

  12. A says:

    Gorgeous and talented people.

  13. AG-UK says:

I think I’ll give this a miss but my 15 y/0 and I are ready for Assassin’s Creed… in Jan. That dress too flowery for me.

  14. Joni says:

    He looks different lately.
Glad to see they’re still going strong, people seem desperate to break them up for some reason.

  15. seesittellsit says:

Nice try but drab. She seems to have a problem trying to strike a balance between the little-girl look (partly a result of her body type) and adult actress glamour. The dress is pretty enough but looks more suitable for Kate Middleton at a Buck House reception for pensioners.

    • OriginallyBlue says:

I thought she had a stylist, but someone said she dresses herself? It definitely shows. Most of the time her look is wrong, off or incomplete. She has different looks, but yet they somehow look the same, if that makes sense.
Also how did Rachel Weisz manage to get out of this promotion? They brought the little girl who plays the daughter, but I have not seen or heard from Rachel.

      • kiki says:

That’s because, she is not involve in this mess of a movie

      • Minxx says:

Yeah, I was wondering why Rachel Weisz didn’t promote it at all but I figured the producers were determined to sell the movie as a romance (also in real life), so having another actress involved in the promotion would ruin the image.

  16. Moon says:

This looks like my grandma’a curtains…lv has really lost the plot…

  17. Sage says:

An 80’s bedspread turned into a dress. These two have no chemistry.

  18. Spiderpig says:

Lol at “coincidentally” falling out of “love” with a celeb when they make a movie with the girlfriend you’ve been hating on their entire relationship…

    • Nik says:

      Exactly what I was thinking.

    • Sasha says:

I don’t get the fans who get upset about celebrity relationships. First of all, the celebrities are complete strangers. They don’t even know we exists. It is like getting upset about love life of some guy living on the next street.
Plus If they are disappointed, they can always move on to some other, more likeable celebrity.

    • Guesto says:

      @Spiderpig – LOL indeed. 😉

Glad to see (gleeful) rumours of their demise as a couple were greatly exaggerated. They both look great, as usual.

@Sasha – Agree. The bit I really don’t get is where dislike of a partner throws all logic out the window and manifests itself as a personal mission to destroy the couple.

  19. Dippit says:

I think Fassbender is getting better with age. A few years ago I couldn’t see the appeal but now I do.

  20. I Choose Me says:

I like the colour if not the print and I even like the peplum. Fassy looks just as yummy to me as always. I’m loving his suit but his shoes could’ve done with a polish.

    • Jayci says:

I agree Fassy looks as good as Fassy always has , and for me I’ve always found him in motion a lot more attractive than in photos anyway !

  21. Heat says:

I love them both. The movie was just ok for me. I would only recommend to fans of theirs. The beginning of the movie is Fassbender brooding alone on an island chopping wood, fixing things, wearing suspenders and long coats gazing pensively off a cliff into the distance…it was great!

  22. deevia says:

Dude looks OLD in the face. Guess the partying will catch up eventually. Plus pale and ginger needs great care to age well. Alicia is so sweet and elegant looking almost non-threatening. I’d believe her as “girl next door” or “American sweet heart”. Much more than someone like JLaw or Swifty, both have eyes that scream CALCULATED.

  23. Lilly says:

Such a lovely, low-key and talented couple. I don’t love the dress (not a peplum fan) but her skin is absolutely flawless.

I’d also find it hilarious is they got married and had a baby. Certain heads would explode…

  24. l says:

Her hair and makeup looks good but I’m not sure about the dress. As for Fass, the guy is nearly 40. With his lifestyle and age, of course he’s going to start showing signs that he’s getting older. And maybe I have a weird perception of what the average person looks like when they’re in the late 30s, but he seems to look about that age, maybe a few years older. He should stop with the smoking if he hasn’t already, though.

About their relationship, I think it’s hilarious that people are still getting riled up about it. I don’t consider myself a real fan of them together to be honest, but I still manage to have common sense and realize that a grown man is not going to commit two years of his life to a woman he doesn’t care about, especially for the sake of “awards” like some claim. This is standard promotion for a film opening at a later date. There’s nothing unusual about this.

  25. Minxx says:

This dress is a disaster, someone on gofugyourself said that Alicia looks like she just escaped the Big Love compound 🙂 And I don’t understand the fussy hair either. She’s pretty but terribly boring and bland. As to Fassy, he’s aged so much since last year, it’s quite shocking. I’m not sure why they’re still promoting this movie since it bombed everywhere already.

  26. Rosie says:

They both look great. Alicia’s dress sense is not my cup of tea but she still looks lovely. Michael was recently honoured in his hometown of Killarney, Ireland. Alicia accompanied him and supported him on the night he received his award. By all accounts she was absolutely lovely and really friendly to everyone. They took lots of pictures with the locals and were just really approachable and gracious. We are very proud of him and appreciate how much he promotes his country and county. He is a very low key man and never have I heard anyone say a bad word about him.

  27. LeAnn Stinks says:

I know they did this movie together, but I thought Vikander and Fassy broke up?

  28. A Fan says:

FAB. She looks absolutely lovely in this dress.

It’s so refreshing to see a non-plastic face and body. Even her hair looks like its natural colour.

    [*Plus she’s so darn cute.*]

  29. Heythere says:

Don’t hate me for saying this, but I can kind of understand Kiki’s POV. I’ve seen a couple of fassy’s movies, and saw that UNCLE movie Alicia did. But that’s about it, I have less than a passing interest for these two. I knew enough about Fassy to know that he has a relationship M.O and this thing with AV has been different. I think it has been different because of this movie in particular, and also because both of them want their careers to go in better directions.

Fassy may be striking a good balance with big blockbusters and Indie projects, but would that have been possible if he hadn’t decided to play the game a little bit more? And yes, we can and should agree that Alicia is aggressive with her career ambitions. Calling them sell outs may be a little harsh, but come on…. Fassy is way different today than who he used to be and if that change has been for professional gain, then yeah, that’s the very definition of a sell out.

    • l says:

I hope this doesn’t come across as rude, but could you elaborate on how he’s way different today? Do you mean professionally, his attitude, or his career direction? If you’re thinking it’s because he’s more in the spotlight than a few years ago, that’s kind of a given. He’s been working hard for several years with both large and indie directors on many films. Of course he was going to become more well known as the years went by. And honestly, people do change at least to a certain degree over the course of their lives. It’s human nature.

The thing that has been really unclear is that for all the insisting that this relationship is fake by certain fans of his, they’ve never been able to come up with a rational explanation of why he would even bother with it. Recognition? This is an actress who is even less known than he is. He doesn’t gain anything from that, especially for a movie that by and large wasn’t made with a huge budget and wasn’t really expected to rake in big amounts at the B.O. They filmed the movie two years ago, and I honestly have a hard time believing that he would dedicate two years to someone he either doesn’t like, or had some casual fling with. Two years is not exactly casual, by most people’s standards. I’m not hugely invested in them as a couple either (I’m actually a fan of his, not so much her), but the theories at this point are kind of absurd.

  30. Andrea says:

They never gave me a vibe that there is a grand romance here…

  31. MD says:

Drab dress. It’s worse than fug…it’s boring. How can anyone design or spend tons of money on something that is bland? Worst outcome for any creative business/person. Alicia’s Louis Vuitton outfits have all been less than stellar. Is her contract with LV nearly up or is she their fashion ambassador for the next five years?
