Tom Cruise on rumors of Top Gun 2: ‘We’re discussing it’

'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back' European Premiere - Arrivals

I’m totally okay with “Tom Cruise: Actor.” “Tom Cruise: rationally functioning human being” is where I’m not completely on board. That being said, Tom is definitely pounding the pavement hard for his new flick Jack Reacher: Never Going Back, the sequel to his first Jack Reacher film, which came out in 2012.

I have to give it to Tom, he is able to poke fun at himself, like he recently did on The Late Late Show with James Corden, when he recreated scenes from some of his most iconic films in an array of horrible wigs. I was disappointed he didn’t strip down to his tighty whiteys for the Risky Business nod, because he still looks mighty fine. Should I attribute that to an undying loyalty to Xenu or a great personal trainer?

While on his promo tour for Jack Reacher: Never Going Back, Tom made an appearance on one of my favorite talk shows, the BBC’s Graham Norton Show, with his co-star, How I Met Your Mother alum Cobie Smulders. Graham asked Tom about the possibility of a sequel to one of his most iconic movies, Top Gun, which has been the subject of speculation in the recent past, and Tom replied, “Yes, we’re discussing it. We’re discussing it. We’re trying to figure it out.” Check out the clip below:

I’m thinking that if the Jack Reacher films continue to make money, we may ever see another Top Gun sequel, as there are already over 20 Jack Reacher novels, which could keep him on screen for years to come. Although, as much as I’m not a huge Tom Cruise fan, I am kind of sad that Boo! A Madea Halloween beat out Tom’s movie over the weekend. Really? I am a firm believer in the concept that lightning rarely strikes twice, and maybe the world isn’t ready to find out what happened to Maverick, Ice Man and the rest of the Top Gun gang. And, as nice as Tom still looks, he won’t ever top his appearance in that volleyball game. Sigh. I think I need a moment…

His front teeth really freak me out.
Seriously – why are they positioned like that? He has obviously had dental work to replace his actual teeth with giant tic tacs…so why aren’t they where they are supposed to me?

    • Esmom says:

I thought I read that he has some congenital dental issue that’s caused the off-kilter alignment. I do remember him having braces for a while a few decades back, so presumably they looked worse before this.

      • Sea Dragon says:

His teeth were a mess when he was young. Google pics. I’m sure you’ll find them.

He does have weird teeth. He actually has a center tooth. I noticed it as a kid. I wasn’t aware of his dental issues.

I haven’t seen an updated photo in a very long time. I can’t believe how much he’s aged. He went from a shiney, pudgy filler face to having an older man’s wrinkles.

    • Maleficent says:

He’s missing one of his front teeth (the ones on the side of his directly in front ones). When I was younger, the dentist talked to me about possibly having to remove (only 1) mine–and mentioned Tom Cruise to me as an example of still being able to be attractive without this tooth.

And he got braces when his son got braces in a show of unity a decade and so ago.

    • enuff said says:

Agreed…his front teeth have always freaked me out and i always wondered why no one ever commented on them. With all of his money I never understood why they weren’t fixed properly in this day of high tech procedures. He looks like a goon…yuck…the fillers!!!

  2. Alix says:

I’m starting to get just a hint of Robert Redford here — an older guy with a (much) younger guy’s haircut. (Check out any recent pic of Redford — he looks ridiculous.)

  3. Tate says:

I am not ok with Tom Cruise at all. Too much is known to stomach anything from this monster and his cult.

    • Marlena says:

+ 1000 Honestly, I don`t get it. Where is the point where we turn our heads and simply do not care any longer? Slavery is not enough….. apparantly *sigh*

  4. Lilyvanilli says:

That photo with co stars is everything . She can’t even bring herself to put her arm around him .

  5. SnazzyisAlive says:

I stopped watching his movies once I had read about all the Xenu crap … it just crossed a line for me. I’m not putting money in his pocket, I don’t care how much I used to love his movies

  6. Sixer says:

The best bit of that Norton show was Cruise gazing at Catherine Tate going potty mouth with total incomprehension and bafflement. Mr Sixer said he should make an alien movie with Tate, no costume, as the alien. I love Tate. Doctor Donna 4EVA!

I know we don’t like the word problematic but um… Cruise is highly problematic. Notwithstanding, he still gives great value as a talk show guest.

  7. adastraperaspera says:

Scientology needs more money. My partner was friends with Nancy Cartwright way back in high school, and even though that was decades ago, we still get cult pamphlets in the mail. Stuff it, Nancy and Tom!

  8. linabear says:

    Tom is wearing lipstick! Right??

  9. Emma33 says:

From the waist down, he looks really feminine in both those suit photos. Is it the lift shoes? It’s like there’s something throwing his posture out a bit.

    • anniefannie says:

OMG! That’s it! I’ve been staring at the pics trying to determine what’s sooo off! It’s his slim/square hips combined with shortish legs definetly give off a feminine vibe

  10. Mia4S says:

I don’t pay to see his movies. I’m not supporting Xenu thanks very much.

” Should I attribute that to an undying loyalty to Xenu or a great personal trainer?”

Try plastic surgeon my dear. It’s subtle work, definitely well done. Seriously if you think his look is natural I have a terrific bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

  11. Barrett says:

I thought his face looked puffy on James Corden? Under the eyes and cheekbones. I kept thinking why does he look different? Either he gained weight or got filler/Botox. It looks weird on a man.

I also know he dyed his hair. He’s like Paul McCarthy. Wonder if a touch of gray would suit him, make him more distinguished looking?

Cuba Gooding JR once went to his house unannounced and said it looked like his face was all red ( laser or microneedling).

Anyway props the James/Cruise skit was very entertaining!!!

    • Amy Tennant says:

I actually thought he looked good in the Corden bit. I never thought he was attractive when he was younger (except for Lestat, and that was more about Lestat than Cruse), but I like his looks better now. He also came across as pretty charming in the bit, which ticked me off because I don’t want to like him. I have the same problem with Alec Baldwin. They seem like jerks in real life, but darn if they aren’t charismatic on screen!

  12. minx says:

He’s so ridiculous as an “action” star.

  13. Mindrew says:

Jack Reacher: Never Stop Reaching got beat out by a Tyler Perry ‘Madea’ movie. Tom.. It’s time to hang the ‘action hero’ costume up. In fact, it’s time for you to take a LONG break from ‘acting’ and figure out a new strategy for your career. No one in the USA wants to see your ‘action hero steely gaze’ anymore, not only is has it gotten worse over time, it’s sad to watch and now reeks of desperation. The only reason you have a large international following, is that you’re voice is dubbed. Give yourself a break… Give us all a break. Maybe your absence for a couple of years and a turn in either a drama or comedy may make the public stop thinking that you’re a sad, strange little man who’s desperately trying to hang on to his youth.

  14. Esmom says:

I could imagine Cruise in a Top Gun remake but Val Kilmer? No way. And with Goose not even alive what would be the point? I also can’t see Meg Ryan agreeing to do it.

  15. boredblond says:

They’ve been ‘talking about it’ ever since the original was such a hit..they missed their window of interest by about 25 years

  16. Arock says:

I think we should take a moment of silence and bow our heads to the actor “formally known as Tom cruise, non-zenu era” (hence forth referred to as Pre-Zenu Tom or PZT) Let us recognize PZT for his fine work in days of thunder, top gun, far and away, color of money, rain man, and the outsiders. Ye, PZT has blessed us in other seasons- risky business and cocktail- but the season of zenu is upon us.
Let us bow our heads and reflect while the choir sings take my breath away. In PZT name we pray…

  17. lisa says:

he looks like something i made out of play doh

  18. Lorelai says:

He was probably so pissed that Cobie Smulders was taken. She’s exactly his “type.”

  19. MrsBPitt says:

Tom is finally starting to look his age. I thought he was one of those genetic freaks, like JLO, that never seem to age!

  20. Lorelai says:

No. Just…no. Please leave Top Gun alone.

  21. Turtle says:

I don’t see it happening unless TC’s playbook significantly changes. The original was from the era when TC was all about being the hotshot piece of ass proving himself to/rebelling against a father figure. Now he’s already older than Tom Skerritt was when Skeritt played that role. TC doesn’t play mentor roles; he’s all about being misunderstood and overcoming the odds and fighting someone/thing that threatens to overwhelm and being the hero. No matter the plot of the sequel, it’s going to be seen as passing the torch. I’m guessing TC doesn’t want to do that with Liam Hemsworth or Miles Teller. It’s good press to talk about a sequel, though. Instant headlines.

  22. Amanda G says:

I didn’t think the original was all that great to begin with…
