Sean Penn doesn’t stop for striking workers

Sean Penn
Sean Penn is one of the most liberal guys in Hollywood. He’s so liberal, he gives liberals a bad name. He’s so liberal, he meets with Hugo Chavez and likes it. He’s so liberal, he can alienate half of America in less than a minute on stage at the Oscars. You get the picture. Sean Penn is going to be in for whatever leftie cause you can throw at him.

Except there seems to be one leftie cause that he’s not up for. Page Six is reporting that Sean is no friend to the working man! Apparently, while Sean was shooting scenes for Fair Game in New York’s Essex House, he totally did a walk-by during a employee strike. Two hundred hotel workers held a work stoppage in the lobby of the Essex House, and Sean gave them a “wave” of solidarity. For shame, Penn.

EXACTLY whose side is Sean Penn on? The Oscar winner was shooting his new flick, “Fair Game,” at the Essex House yesterday when 200 hotel workers staged a work stoppage in the lobby.

They claim management owes them $1.8 million in withheld tips. One striker told The Post’s Amber Sutherland that as the ultra-liberal star, who’s known for supporting workers’ rights, walked by the rally, he waved to them in solidarity.

And yet, a production assistant insisted that filming wasn’t affected in any way. Penn’s rep didn’t get back to us.

[From Page Six]

This is most likely a really bad move for Sean’s leftie credentials. Even if the production of Fair Game is one-hundred percent union (which it is), the locations where they’re filming should be within union compliance as well. Add to this the extra political drama of the film they’re shooting, and this could be a big deal. Fair Game is the film based on outed CIA operative Valerie Plame, with Naomi Watts as Plame and Sean playing Ambassador Joe Wilson. Earlier, it was reported that Sean really wanted Ann Coulter to make an appearance in the film, but that Ann had refused. What would Ann say about this?

I’m anxious to hear how Sean Penn blames this on the great right wing conspiracy. Since the NYPost is still owned by Rupert Murdoch, he’s halfway there.

Plame and Wilson are also insufferable, self-congratulating people and totally fake heroes, so it all fits within the film’s general theme.

Gawd, he is SUCH a dick.

^^Love the post before mine, agree^^

I’m a union girl through and through, and would never cross a picket line.
I hope this will come back to bite him hard, and not on just in the ass.

Penn’s never been the sharpest pencil in the box, but with Hollywood being a UNION town, I think he just bought himself a whole lot of bad will that will haunt him in the future.

Don’t drink the craft service coffee, Sean. It’s been spit in.

  9. Mebe says:

Sean is a douche for sure. Real lefties don’t cross picket lines.

However, Candykay why the Plame/Wilson dis? What the hell did they do wrong? Plame was undercover, until outed. Her job was to track lose nukes, kind of an important job for the safety of our country. Wilson did nothing wrong except expose that the Bush administration’s claim of Saddam buying yellow cake(the entire rational for war) was completely bogus.

Both have done a service to this country and for truth and justice in general, your comment makes me think you watch Fox News for information.

  10. CandyKay says:

Actually, I’m an Obama voter and, living overseas, I’ve never seen Fox News.

Wilson and Plame are and have always been highly political people – which is their right. But I don’t see them as serving their country as much as serving their own reputations.

I know nothing about this movie, but I’m guessing it won’t have much of a sense of humility or humor. Its subjects certainly don’t.

Wasn’t “Fair Game” Cindy Crawford’s big movie debut? I’d rather watch that a thousand times than any Penn drivel….

  12. Mairead says:

Is being Liberal really the same as being left-wing?

If one’s liberal one would defend their right to stop work without incurring penalty. But would you really be honour-bound to not cross a picket line where the issue doesn’t affect your rights? So no real hypocrisy there.

Whereas if you’re left wing, there is more of a moral obligation to share your fellow workers “pain” by putting yourself or your plans out for the common cause. So in that case, crossing a picketline would be hypocritical.

I wouldn’t cross a picketline myself unless it absolutely necessary (e.g. being 10 years old, stuck on the tarmacadam at Holyhead ferryport in Wales at 3am – I’m getting on that damned bus)

As for Fox and Sky News; I am no fan of Rupert Murdoch, but God forgive me I have stopped to watch Fox News on satellite – he evidentally ploughed money into the screen design and colouring because the layout is so much more compelling to stop and watch when scanning the channels… damned right wing conspiracy!!!! 😉

Hey Daisy, I joined FB and followed your instructions, but don’t see your icon anywhere…am I missing something?

You can find mine…it’s a pic of my black cat in a paper bag 😉 (kitties do love their paper bags…)

  14. Tess says:

    @ Mairead:
I could be wrong, but off the top o’ me head, I believe that that classical liberalism is quite different than what we consider left-wing, today.

I believe that Edmund Burke would consider today’s “liberals” and their positions to be unrecognizable from the fundamental philosophy that he wrote about.

Philosophically, conservatism has absorbed many views that were once considered liberal…especially where the importance and value of individuals and their freedoms are concerned. This is in contrast to the left-wing focus on groups and identity politics.

  15. barneslr says:

“Wasn’t “Fair Game” Cindy Crawford’s big movie debut?”

Yeah, her debut and swan song all at once…that was a pretty awful movie.

But I still agree with you—I’d watch it 1000x before I’d watch Penn.

  16. daisy424 says:

    @Barneslr, I think I found you. I sent you a friend request.
