New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men and Paula Abdul to tour

2015 American Idol XIV Grand Finale

Get out your jellies, shoulder pads and scrunch spray, New Kids on the Block are back! The original members of the 80s boy band, who don’t qualify to be “boys” (or kids) for that matter anymore, Jordan Knight (46), Jonathan Knight (47), Joey McIntyre (43), Donnie Wahlberg (47), and Danny Wood (47), are out to prove they’re still “Hangin’ Tough” and embarking on a tour in 2017. Joining NKOTB are 3/4 of Boys II Men and Paula Abdul. Talk about an 80s flashback.

The 40-city Total Package tour kicks off on May 12 and includes stops at the Hollywood Bowl, New York’s Barclay Center and my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. If just going to see the show isn’t enough for you, VIP packages are available, with prices ranging from $249 for some special swag to a staggering $995, which includes a photo op with the band, a backstage tour and a pre-show party. These VIP packages are kind of getting out of control, aren’t they? Of course, I paid $300 to go to a Rick Springfield sound check/meet and greet a few years ago, and it was worth every penny. Have I mentioned I’m kind of a goober? But $995? Wow. Tickets for the tour go on sale on November 19.

NKOTB have been keeping busy in recent years, touring with Backstreet Boys in 2011 and 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men in 2013. They had a brief Las Vegas residency in 2014 and, more recently, they filmed an appearance for the upcoming second season of Fuller House. In a statement, Donnie waxed enthusiastic about the tour, which marks the first time Paula has toured in 25 years.

Our fans know we love to bring them a party, and this tour is no exception. It’s not just a show, it’s an experience. Paula Abdul is such a pop icon and Boyz II Men are one of the best R&B acts of all time. It’s going to be a night of hit after hit, and we can’t wait to deliver the ‘Total Package’ to our fans!

[From Entertainment Weekly]

Paula is excited as well, tweeting, “So excited to share that I am going on tour with @NKOTB and @BoyzIIMen for the #TotalPackageTour.”

No word as to whether or not MC Skat Kat will again take the stage to sing the timeless classic Opposites Attract with Paula, but we can only hope. (Fun fact: the MC Skat Kat rap in that song was written by Romany Malco from the 40-Year-Old Virgin and Weeds. Yes, I spend entirely too much time on the internet.) I can’t believe they’re already announcing the 2017 summer tours. Already between this one and Bruno Mars in the works (and I’m sure more to come in the following weeks), I think I’ll be eating ramen noodles by the fall.

And the return to the Reagan era continues.

And no tix for me if mc skat kat doesn’t guest!

way to beat a dead horse!

  4. Louise177 says:

Why is this such big news? They’ve been touring and performing for several years so I’m baffled why it’s being reported as if it has been decades. I’m more interested in Paula Abdul.

  5. Green Is Good says:

I can see people getting sentimental for a nostalgia tour.

  6. EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

In the split second before I read the headline, I thought that headline photo of Donnie Wahlberg was Bryan Cranston.

  7. tifzlan says:

Is this US-only? Because i love Boyz II Men. LOVE. And i’ve been dying to see them live. I would even pay for Paula Abdul!

  8. I Choose Me says:

Wish I could go. Unfortunately that would require plane fare as well as ticket money. Donnie used to be my favourite New Kid but now it’s Joey Mac and Danny Wood.

Fun fact, Danny Wood once dated Halle Berry.

Er, that lady in the last pic in the mustard dress, is that supposed to be Paula Abdul?

  9. KL says:

I’ve been watching Iyanla’s House of Healing, and the story of Michael McCary, ak.a. Mike Bass, a.k.a. the fourth quarter of Boys II Men, is giving me the feels. Those guys were not very nice to him 🙁

  10. Heather H says:

Other than Paula they were 90’s bands, not 80’s bands.

  11. Colleen says:

I’m swept up in the nostalgia. Just last Friday I went to the “I Love the 90s” show in GBO to see Salt n Pepa, Kid n Play, Vanilla Ice, Young MC, Coolio and All4One. I kept thinking, “if only Boyz II Men were here.” But it was a good time, and I would definitely pay to see the Boyz.

  12. ria says:

I love Paula and think of her as hilarious, but she is not a good singer. Then again, most Pop stars today aren’t either, not beeing able to sing good is not a hindrance if the Show is done right.

NKOTB were on of the favorite Bands of a really hated school bully, Bad memories that band.

    BOYZ II Men are ok.

WOULD LOVE Cyndi Lauper, she is cool, still can sing.

Otherwise read today of rumors that Queen might record Songs with Adam Lambert.

    PLEASE YES YES YES

    What day is it?

  14. Happy21 says:

I saw NKOTB a few years ago in a small arena in my area and they were actually AMAZING. Totally interactive with the audience and excellent live. I liked Boyz II Men but they were never all that for me. Now Paula…pretty sure I was one of her biggest fans back in the day. I’d love to go see this show!

  15. Clara says:

You just blew my mind with that Romany Malco tidbit. And then I was like “if he wrote the rap, how old is he?” and he’s now 47 so MIND SUPER BLOWN.
