Jennifer Lawrence covers VF, thinks she doesn’t ‘give off’ the homewrecker vibe

JLAW VF

Ugh, I’m actually not looking forward to Jennifer Lawrence’s promotional blitz for Passengers. Jennifer stars in the movie with Chris Pratt, and they’re already being called the Prom King and Prom Queen of Hollywood. Personally, I think the movie looks kind of tedious, but I’m sure it will be a big hit because Jen really is America’s Farty Sweetheart. She covers the new issue of Vanity Fair and OMG, this interview is so long. That is one thing I’ll give her – she’s consistently a great interview and when she turns it on, she’s ON. You can read the full VF piece here and here are some highlights (again, this is a really long interview and I skipped a bunch of stuff about how she loves Beyonce and the Real Housewives):

She’s still a drinker: “I am playing a ballerina in my next movie [Red Sparrow], so my first step is not drinking alcohol for every meal of the day. Obviously I’m still drinking every day.

Why she works so much: “I don’t like waking up with nothing to do or going to sleep without accomplishing anything. That really depresses me.”

On Paris Fashion Week: “The most intimidating time to be alive. You get ready in your hotel and you’re like, ‘I look awesome.’ Then you walk outside, see the outfits and people who are like seven feet tall, and are like, I am a piece of garbage. I’m not going out anymore.’ ”

Her friendship with Emma Stone: “She texted me that she got my number from Woody [Harrelson]. I replied, F–k off!’ And we’ve been really good friends ever since.” The two of them texted every day for a year after that. “I feel like it was our version of The Notebook—365 texts. I love my job. I don’t know what I would be without acting. So if there is someone who loves the same thing, it should bring us closer. But it depends on how that person is, and Emma is so normal and lovely. If I wasn’t her biggest fan, I would’ve Tonya Harding’d her in the kneecaps.”

She hates being a bridesmaid (she’s done it four times): “All of my friends are getting married and having babies. Weddings rock, but I will never be a bridesmaid again. There needs to be a bridesmaids’ union. It’s horrendous. If anyone asks me again, I’m going to say, ‘No. That part of my life is over. I appreciate the ask.’ If I do ever get married, I don’t think I will have bridesmaids. How can I rank my friends?”

Her dog, Pippi Longstocking. Last Christmas, Lawrence’s mother commissioned a portrait of Pippi from a 14-year-old fan of Lawrence’s in New Zealand. At first, the actress hung the portrait in her Los Angeles home only when her mom visited before realizing, “F–k it. I am the person who has an acrylic painting of her dog,” and proudly showcased it above her fireplace. “I am a psychotic dog mom in a way that I am genuinely embarrassed about. If I could put her inside me and give birth to her I would.” Because of this, Lawrence jokes that having actual children “would be dangerous. My kids would be incredibly jealous because I would still be way more attentive to Pippi than I would to them.”

She made friends with Chris Pratt’s wife Anna Faris: “I think women can sense if you are the kind of woman who is going to run off with their husband. I don’t think I give off that vibe. I give off the ‘Please like me!’ desperation. Which is not threatening.”

Her feminism, work for equal pay: “I feel like something really clicked when I was 25. It’s not as scary to say what you mean anymore. Remember how scary that used to be? Like ‘What if they think I’m mad at them?’ Now it’s like ‘They better think I’m mad!’ ”

She doesn’t suffer fools: “I’m a good bullsh-t detector… Ever since I was a kid, I was always calling sh-t out.”

[From Vanity Fair]

She also refuses to discuss her relationship with director Darren Aronofsky, but she does say that she had always wanted to work with him because “He is a visionary.” She also doesn’t say much about her exes, Nicholas Hoult and Chris Martin, which is for the best. She confirms that she’s still friends with Amy Schumer, but it does feel like… I don’t know, maybe there’s a cooling off between the two of them. Like, Emma Stone is her BFF these days. As for the rest of it… J-Law is J-Law and I love her and enjoy her… in small doses. Like, this Vanity Fair interview was my limit for the week. How am I going to get through her promotional tour?

welcome back Jlaw…i miss her crazy ass.

  2. SilverUnicorn says:

I am not a fan and I like her only in small doses. When she does the promotional tours, her logorrhoic ways are unbearable. And I’m a chatty person too.
She looks fabulous these days, JMHO.

About the home wrecker part, I have heard that before and it doesn’t mean anything, people who are less confident can be attractive to men anyway so she’s way off base there.

    • perplexed says:

I thought she was basically saying she doesn’t flirt with married men, but I could be wrong. Maybe I assume that’s the best way not to give off a home wrecker vibe (and I projected that onto what she’s saying).

How do people manage to drink every day I have always wondered. lol

    • Moonstone says:

      Me too!

    • Wiffie says:

      Eh, i have a 1 and 4 year old. It’s easy. Lol.

Glass of red while i make dinner every night. Weekends, maybe another with the hubby before bed.

    • Incognita says:

How she manages to drink every day and still look like that is the biggest mystery.

    • Tris says:

ahem. um…uh… yeah, me too! *coff coff*

    • kimbers says:

Its called being a functioning alcoholic

      • Leah says:

        @kimbers
People can have a glass of wine or a beer with dinner it doesn’t make them an alcoholic, in fact its quite common in some cultures.

      • kimbers says:

Regular intake of alcohol or the inability to go without is alcoholism no matter how accepted in a culture. Sorry but my mom was an addiction therapist and helped many people from all walks of life.

Tell yourself whatever you want, I’m not judging, simply defining. Cultural doesn’t make habitual drinking not a form of alcoholism. Btw my culture is one that supports drinking with every meal. Might be why i support sativa instead of alcohol?

      • squeezeo'lime says:

maybe your mom should should do the diagnosing and not you. there’s no “functioning” addict.

    • MrsBadBob says:

      She’s 26.

  4. Janetdr says:

Wow! Love the silver dress. She looks great

  5. detritus says:

She looks hot and I want to own that red dress.
She seems to have problems keeping long term friends. No judgement, it’s probably really hard with her schedule. I just thought she was besties with Zoe Kravitz? Then Schumer, now Stone?

  6. shoochai says:

I must say, I agree 100% with her on the bridesmaid thing. No mas.

  7. BonnieJean says:

Welcome back Jlaw!! Love her haircut — love her entire look. After the trashy AMA’s, it’s good to see glamor & REAL clothing!!

    • Liz says:

It’s a great photo shoot by Vanity Fair. She looks incredible in some of the pictures like best ever in my opinion.

    America’s Sweetfart!

  9. LP says:

Passengers is an original idea not based on a book or a franchise- I don’t give a rat’s a** if it’s good, I’m seeing it twice.

    • Farah says:

Exactly! People always say they’re tired of sequels, prequels and book adaptation and then they don’t support original blockbusters. It’s a vicious cycle.

      • Nik says:

Regardless how overpopulated YA/Comic book movies are nowadays, that shouldn’t mean we have to be pressured into see any original work out too.

Passengers looks generic and trite. I’m skipping it…and I’ll still complain when the next superhero movie comes out.

    • someone says:

I thought the trailer looked good, I’ll be there when it opens!

  10. Yeahright says:

The level of tryhard has reached LadyGaga.
    I. Have. To. Leave. Before. i punch. Things

    • JackieJ56 says:

I don’t get tryhard vibes from J-Law at all. Frankly, I think it’s the other way round. She’s an interesting example of a young female celebrity who’s confident enough in what she’s achieved not to give a toss about playing a role.

  11. JenB says:

I love J Law. I feel a little bad for the friends’ weddings she was in though, that might sting.
I agree with her that she doesn’t give off that home wrecker vibe.
But I gotta say Marion Cotillard does. Is it just the French thing? I remain unconvinced it’s not Brad’s bun in the oven.

    • Lex says:

Everyone who has been in a wedding knows being a bridesmaid is a curse more than a blessing!
I am doing it now for my sister and I want to wring her neck some days

  12. Stuffapea says:

Her next film is titled ‘Red Sparrow” wherein she plays a ballerina? Is this the result of her relationship with Aronofsky, director of “Black Swan”?

    • Kate says:

No, it’s a Francis Lawrence film she’s been attached to since she worked with him in the Hunger Games sequels, based on a book of the same name.

  13. hey-ya says:

….”I dont like waking up with nothing to do…” always best to have interests outside work…like me😊

  14. M.A.F. says:

The trailer came on when I was seeing Fantastic Beasts and I agree with my friend- looks like a good movie but why thrown in a generic love story? I will probably wait for this to come out on Netflix.

  15. Tiffany :) says:

I love the cover image! Her hair, the red, the angle of her face. It is so perfectly framed, but it has movement. I really like it.

  16. OTHER RENEE says:

For my first wedding I had two bridesmaids and I told them to wear whatever they wanted but not to clash with each other. They looked lovely and comfortable. For my second wedding, no bridesmaids at all. Just my then teenage daughter as maid of honor. My husband’s child was best man. It was lovely. No pressure. I couldn’t imagine stressing out my friends with the whole bridesmaid costume thing and expense.

  17. sage says:

I feel her desperation too. Its not threatening but it can be annoying.

  18. Nemera77 says:

I don’t really like the cover. Just looks Meh to me.
