Hillary Clinton got a 50-pound basket full of meat & chicken pot pies from fans

Here’s something nice: in Hillary Clinton’s hometown, residents are going out of their way to support her. Hillary and Bill Clinton have been seen out and about in Chappaqua, and apparently wherever they go, they get hugs and well-wishes. People have been putting signs out on their front yards reading “We Love You Hillary.” The local Chappaqua Farmers Market “made a 50-pound basket of locally-sourced goodies for Hillary: chicken pot pies, carrots, meats, cheeses, vegetables and yoghurt.” People have been dropping off flowers, cards and letters for Hillary too. At the local bank, Bill Clinton was holding court with some well-wishers, telling them that he feels that Hillary “completely got railroaded by Comey” and that Bill wish he “didn’t know Hillary so he could really go to town on the people persecuting her so he could really speak his mind. He felt he was held back because he couldn’t defend her the way he wanted to defend her.”

Meanwhile, New York Magazine dropped this report yesterday and it’s one of the biggest-trending stories of today. There’s a voting-rights group which thinks that the vote was hacked in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Hillary Clinton is being urged by a group of prominent computer scientists and election lawyers to call for a recount in three swing states won by Donald Trump, New York has learned. The group, which includes voting-rights attorney John Bonifaz and J. Alex Halderman, the director of the University of Michigan Center for Computer Security and Society, believes they’ve found persuasive evidence that results in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania may have been manipulated or hacked. The group is so far not speaking on the record about their findings and is focused on lobbying the Clinton team in private.

Last Thursday, the activists held a conference call with Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign general counsel Marc Elias to make their case, according to a source briefed on the call. The academics presented findings showing that in Wisconsin, Clinton received 7 percent fewer votes in counties that relied on electronic-voting machines compared with counties that used optical scanners and paper ballots. Based on this statistical analysis, Clinton may have been denied as many as 30,000 votes; she lost Wisconsin by 27,000. While it’s important to note the group has not found proof of hacking or manipulation, they are arguing to the campaign that the suspicious pattern merits an independent review — especially in light of the fact that the Obama White House has accused the Russian government of hacking the Democratic National Committee.

According to current tallies, Trump has won 290 Electoral College votes to Clinton’s 232, with Michigan’s 16 votes not apportioned because the race there is still too close to call. It would take overturning the results in both Wisconsin (10 Electoral College votes) and Pennsylvania (20 votes), in addition to winning Michigan’s 16, for Clinton to win the Electoral College. There is also the complicating factor of “faithless electors,” or members of the Electoral College who do not vote according to the popular vote in their states. At least six electoral voters have said they would not vote for Trump, despite the fact that he won their states.

The Clinton camp is running out of time to challenge the election. According to one of the activists, the deadline in Wisconsin to file for a recount is Friday; in Pennsylvania, it’s Monday; and Michigan is next Wednesday. Whether Clinton will call for a recount remains unclear. The academics so far have only a circumstantial case that would require not just a recount but a forensic audit of voting machines. Also complicating matters, a senior Clinton adviser said, is that the White House, focused on a smooth transfer of power, does not want Clinton to challenge the election result. Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri did not respond to a request for comment. But some Clinton allies are intent on pushing the issue. This afternoon, Huma Abedin’s sister Heba encouraged her Facebook followers to lobby the Justice Department to audit the 2016 vote. “Call the DOJ…and tell them you want the votes audited,” she wrote. “Even if it’s busy, keep calling.”

[From New York Magazine]

I think this will probably end up like the Al Gore situation, which is that Hillary and her people will put the appearance of democracy ahead of a long, drawn-out legal fight. Years later, we still know that there were thousands of votes not “counted” in Florida in the 2000 election. And maybe when everything is investigated about the 2016 election, we’ll find that our democracy was hacked. Personally, I don’t think it would hurt if Pres. Obama – rather than Hillary – asked for an independent audit of the election, but I also think the Clinton camp wants to avoid the appearance of being seen as “clutching at straws.”

Based on the NYT interview Trump did…he’s irked about her popular vote win. It is a little weird that she lost and will end up with 2.5 million+ votes.

    • lightpurple says:

It would go a long way in easing tensions if he and Paul Ryan would acknowledge that she won the popular vote, that they know the majority of Americans did not choose them, and that they will work to represent all Americans, even though it means abandoning their platform. Instead, Ryan is smirking and running around screaming “mandate” and planning to shove his odious platform down everyone’s throats before anyone realizes what he is doing.

      • SusanneToo says:

Yes, Shrub boasted about the same “mandate” after he lost the popular vote. And continued on his destructive ways.

      • Lisa says:

People never learn. They will probably vote for Trump in four years times too.

      • Esmom says:

Do you honestly think Paul Ryan would ever concede that Hillary won the popular vote? I actually can’t think of a single civilian Republican who would even do that. Grr.

      • lightpurple says:

@Esmom, I think he should but I know he won’t. While Trump is the something shiny that causes great commotion and disruption, he truly is ignorant of what he is doing. Ryan is not ignorant. Ryan knows exactly what he is doing. Paul Ryan is pure evil incarnate and he enjoys causing harm but he does it in the shadows and the shiny orange buffoon is going to give him lots of cover. It is also now pretty clear that something was wrong with the voting in Ryan’s home state. The federal courts ruled yesterday that Wisconsin was gerrymandered and the vote shows they have more votes cast for president than actual ballots filed.

      • Lama Bean says:

@SusanneToo. Shrub?!?!?! That just made my day!

      • SusanneToo says:

@Lama Bean. The great Mollie Ivens dubbed him that. She had his number very early on and tried to warn everyone.

    • DeniseMich says:

      Appearances be damned.

The last time this happened we needed up with an idiot president. The result was a war, trillions of debt and the banks collapsing.

I am willing for Hillary to look like she is grasping at straws if it saves us a fraction of the trouble of presidential incompetence.

      • LinaLamont says:

Bush wasn’t elected; he was installed by SCOTUS.
Sick of Dems always rolling over. The Reps would demand an audit/investigation.
When they go low, we go lower. Grow a pair and stand up for your country, Dems.

      • Kitten says:

“Sick of Dems always rolling over. The Reps would demand an audit/investigation.”

THIS though. What lazy-ass, complacent party.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Democrats are the only ones standing up for our institutions, like the Supreme Court. I can see why they wouldn’t want to injure the faith in the election system, which is a very important element of a functioning democracy.

However, I also think that the consequences of this election are so important. Hackers have obviously tried to interfere in a number of ways. If they are ok with hacking the DNC, why wouldn’t they go after election results as well?

I called the DOJ yesterday. 🙂

  2. lightpurple says:

Additionally, the Federal District Court for Western Wisconsin ruled yesterday that districts had been unconstitutionally gerrymandered in an effort to make it difficult for democrats to cast votes.

    • Kitten says:

      I saw that.
      So what’s the fall back?
What are the repercussions of the ruling?
What kind of provisions will be put into place to stop this from happening again?

      • Betsy says:

Slate had a decent article about it yesterday; I know sometimes links are not allowed here or I would put it in.

      • Dee says:

        this ^
how can there be a ruling like that with no repreccussions ???

      • Lightpurple says:

Wisconsin will have to redistrict immediately with strict oversight on how they do it and their elections will be monitored for years..

      • Kelly says:

Lightpurple, it’s about fricking time that Wisconsin gets the blowback it has justifiably earned how Walker and his fellow GOP pieces of human garbage have eroded voting rights and many other things in Wisconsin.

During the recall election in 2012, there was actual fraud committed in Waukesha County. It’s the county immediately east of Milwaukee, a majority white flight area and very conservative. There was also a WI Supreme Court seat on the ballot between David Prosser, the conservative incumbent who choked another one of his colleagues, a woman, and a left, progressive leaning challenger. Ballots for Prosser mysteriously appeared when his challenger was coming close in multiple Waukesha County polling places. He won because of these late appearing ballots.

Our Attorney General, also a piece of human garbage, sent out election observers in mostly Democratic leaning areas. Very few observers were out in conservative and Republican leaning areas.

I’m still not sure if my vote in Madison was counted at all. I voted early because I could at the local public library and I wanted to start drinking earlier. Turns out it was a wise plan. I was drunk texting my equally stunned and angered sister who lives in Minnesota. She’s gloating that Minnesota was an oasis of sanity and reason compared to the rest of the Midwest.

    • BONZO says:

We need more of this. Gerrymandering is nothing short of election rigging by the GOP.

  3. Erinn says:

I really feel for her. She’s in a no-win kind of situation. She is essentially forced to take it gracefully and let it be – otherwise it’s going to be non-stop “crooked Hillary is a sore loser – she should be in jail wah wah wah”.

But let’s be honest- we already know that a specific hacker didn’t want her anywhere near the whitehouse. It would not surprise me at all if there was a hacking scandal with the voting machines.

    • ol cranky says:

I’m no fan of conspiracy theory but I’m starting to wonder if Trump’s bluster about the election being rigged against him if he didn’t win because he had Russia hack and rig it in his favor. If so it was a well-played stunt knowing we’d have to bite our tongues because we told him he was out of his gourd and planning to be a sore loser.

2M + vote difference is just astounding. I guarantee you that if Trump had won the popular vote by 50 votes & she won the electoral college there would have been an armed insurrection lead by all those Trump supporters tell us to grow up and Trump would be demanding that SCOTUS be the final arbiter (with RBG having to abstain)

  4. Bex says:

Please please please audit the vote

  5. eggy weggs says:

Hillary, gurl, you enjoy those potpies. Try to have a good Thanksgiving. I will be avoiding the stuffing and the mashed potaters and all the other carbs; this election cycle put a lot of weight back on me. Kaiser, Celebitchy et al — I know this is a celebrity gossip site, and I know there has been grousing on here about politics being placed in the foreground on this site. But, for me, I am thankful for it. Thank you for keeping us informed through the forum you have. #staywoke

    • Kitten says:

For me it’s the opposite: I’ve actually lost weight from endless sleepless nights and not having an appetite from the stress of this. I’m starting to feel better though…looking forward to my mom’s raspberry squares tomorrow 🙂

Oh, and I second everything you said about this forum. It really has been a safe place during this election and I am so very thankful for that. After going through all of this, I feel deeply bonded with all you celebitches ♥

      • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

Second everything you just said! Except your Mom’s raspberry squares, ’cause I don’t know your Mom, but I wish I did.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I’ve been totally eating my feelings the past month because of the election. It isn’t good. I am looking forward to a low key holiday with my boyfriend and dog, and lots of walks!

  6. Megan M says:

Maybe Trump’s “The system is rigged” was intended to prevent liberals from challenging his victory? He probably knew they would criticize him for these accusations and hoped that would make them feel like hypocrites should they later think about claiming the same thing.

  7. Aiobhan Targaryen says:

First, that is a lovely thing her the people in her hometown did for her. It does not restore my faith in humanity, but it is a nice touch for them to show appreciation to her.

As much as I want to prove that the Russians and the Republicans cheated, the establishment democrats will not do anything about this. They are always running away from fights- even when they are in the right of things.

They did little to nothing when the voter suppression started and they will do nothing about this either.

    • Bex says:

Taking the high road is an admirable sentiment but in this case I think the left (and the centre, and anyone decent on the right who is appalled by all this- I know they exist) need to give as good as they’ve got. Bernie Sanders giving soundbites on a book tour isn’t going to cut it.

      • Maria says:

i totally agree. It cannot be that the citizens are more appalled and up in arms than the actual opposition.

      • Aiobhan Targaryen says:

I agree. A lot of people on the progressive side have worked too hard to accomplish what they have done. It would be a waste of everyone’s time if they let this go do to fairness.

This country was not built on fairness and taking the high road. It was built on the backs of the disenfranchised and repackaged into the crap that we had to learn in high school history classes.

I honestly am sick of Bernie and his I told you so tour. This tour he is on now reminds me of why I was skeptical of him in the first place: he wanted to leave behind/ or ignore all the non-white voters of various economic backgrounds for the white middle class. It was not until POC reached out to HIM did he even half way consider including people of color in his campaign. He and a lot of other politicians need to get it through their thick skulls that American lives (actually all lives) are not on a binary scale but a venn diagram. Race, sexuality, religion, etc and the way we see the world intersects. Identity politics are just as important as the economy and no one should have to choose between being different things.

      • eggy weggs says:

+1 Aiobhan Targaryen, especially w/r/t: Bernie.

      • Bex says:

I just read the most infuriating article on Politico about electors from Colorado who are lobbying other electors to reject Trump. Great. Except they’re apparently former Bernie supporters who are also lobbying electors in blue states to reject Clinton and and ‘partner with Republicans in support of a consensus pick such as Romney or Kasich’ in order to undermine the system. Screw that.

      • Kitten says:

YES. So tired of the soft-ass Dems. I don’t have to vote Dem but I do in the hopes that they’ll advocate for the things that are important to myself and my fellow citizens. Sadly, they always disappoint me.

      • Rapunzel says:

Aiobhan- I’ll add my voice to the “sick of Bernie” group. Bernie would NOT have fared better!! I swear some folks are just deluded. And bitter Bernie boys helped spread the vitriol about HRC, instead of uniting the Dems. Pathetic.

      • littlestar says:

Bex, I get your frustration. I really do. Two weeks later and I’m still sick to my stomach that Trump is president elect. I really do hope the electors step in and DUMP TRUMP, but in doing that, they are walking a fine line. Peaceful protests will likely turn to riots if they try to override the electoral vote. I’m not a fan of the Repub party at ALL, but I think they still need to let the Repubs “win” this election, and then overhaul the whole voting system. So putting someone reasonable (damn, I can’t even believe I’m saying this) like Romney in for president might be good to stop mass hysteria.

Who knows though. That’s just my two cents.

      • Rapunzel says:

littlestar- I don’t think the answer is putting in someone who didn’t even run, like Romney. The answer is someone stepping up and proving, once and for all, that Trump is too corrupt to be President… like proof he worked with Russia to win. The Electoral College needs to pick HRC for her popular vote, but with a good excuse. If the media would give them on, it would all work out. HRC would be chosen, and GOPers wouldn’t be able to riot because Trump would have tanked himself.

I think the right reason for dumping him is out there that would make everyone say the electors HAD to change (even his supporters/Hillary haters). There’s some skeleton in his closet that is inexcusable, there has to be. But the media was too busy using Trump for ratings to do it before, and is too scared shitless to do it now.

Save us, investigative reporters. Save us, electoral college.

  8. SusanneToo says:

202-514-2000. That is the number to call the Dept of Justice and request they Audit the Vote. Punch 4 and leave message on public line. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO DO IT.

  9. Alix says:

A sweet gesture on Chappaqua’s part, but I’ll bet HRC would’ve appreciated it even more if the food had been donated to a homeless shelter in her name.

Instead of recounting the votes, I say we focus on establishing a list of treasonable/impeachable offenses of Trump’s part so we can ditch his orange ass ASAP. Already off to a good start.

    • Rapunzel says:

Alix- impeaching Trump unfortunately means President Mike Pence, who could very well be worse, and more insidious in his damage.

      • Alix says:

True, it’s not a perfect solution, but from what I hear Pence is 100% more controllable than the whacked-out Trump. And it might put the fear of God in him.

      • lightpurple says:

I have a little bit more trust of Pence around nuclear codes. The other horrible stuff to our institutions is going to happen with Trump or Pence. Paul Ryan will see to it.

  10. robyn says:

So glad she is getting good support in the community. About the vote count. I hope someone goes ahead with it because Trump’s win feels really fishy to me. There has been so much Russian involvement. When Trump was talking about rigging, he said a vote cast for him might transform into a vote for Hillary. I actually can’t help thinking there is a strong possibility that it was the other way around. I think Russia has been working to rig elections to destabilize the West and democracies for a very long time. Apparently, Putin has been cultivating Trump for years and Jill Stein was seen at an event for a Russian propaganda magazine. Fishy connections all over the place. The FBI is also suspect in my mind because that boy’s club failed democracy and the American people, as did the media.

  11. Rapunzel says:

The gerrymandering and possible hacking needs to be addressed. But Dems are so spineless they’re too busy appeasing Trump to do anything. This. Is. Not. Normal.

Obama / Biden are the only ones who might speak up after leaving office. But that’s too late. Why is this madness not being stopped?

    • Aiobhan Targaryen says:

I watched a segment on the Rachel Maddow show last night that one of the causes Obama wanted to champion was fixing the legal cheating that the Republicans did with redistricting. I want him to go further with this as he now has a lot of experience and a lot of smart and loyal people to help. I genuinely want to believe that this can be fixed soon.

Someone mentioned up thread about a court case in Wisconsin that may help with redistricting as well.

      • lightpurple says:

Redistricting happens after every census. The next is 2020. Things won’t be fixed in 2020; they’ll be fixed by 2022. A Supreme Court decision last spring struck down ways the Republicans gerrymander so there will be changes IF we make it that long. The only ways things are redistricted before 2021-2022 is if there is a successful lawsuit in a district.

    • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

I’ll give credit to Elizabeth Warren as well. She has told Trump that she is watching and she was instrumental in chasing Christie and his lobbyists out via Kuschner.

  12. Lisa says:

why are there always big queues in US elections? why don’t you let black people and other ethnic minorities vote? Why do you gerrymander districts so that Republicans can’t lose? Why do you only worry about this every four years?

    • Jane says:

There are big queues in the United States because we have 324,000,000 people in our country. Certainly we are not going to have SMALL queues.

People of color and other ethnic minorities are allowed to vote. Our 15th Amendment to our Constitution allows that to be so (for the black vote). It is against the law to refuse black or minority voters in this country.

We worry every 4 years because again the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution states that that a President holds office for 4 years. He can hold office for another consecutive 4 years if he is voted into office again. However, after that he can no longer run for President. He is only allowed 2 consecutive terms.

      • Lightpurple says:

I don’t wait in long queues to vote. My area has the sufficient number of polling places and a sufficient number of voting booths at each poll. The vast majority of people in my area can walk to their polling place. That is NOT the same everywhere in the US. The Federal District Court for Western Wisconsin found yesterday that Wisconsin has been deliberately making it harder for certain segments of the Wisconsin population to vote in violation of the Constitution

      • Kitten says:

I walked to my polling place. There was a very long line and when I checked in with the woman who was holding the clipboard, she immediately pulled myself and the woman in front of me into another line, which was only 3 people deep.

It was awesome. Whole thing took maybe 10, 15 min in total.

      • SusanneToo says:

@Jane maybe this will help you understand. Try google. There’s a massive amount of information on the gutting of the VRA in the wake of the right wingers on SCOTUS.
        http://www.thenation.com/article/there-are-868-fewer-places-to-vote-in-2016-because-the-supreme-court-gutted-the-voting-rights-act/

      • Jane says:

@SusanneToo I’m rather confused here. I have been teaching the Constitution for 32 years, and I do not think I misunderstood anything. What I stated above is true as I have the Constitution in my History Alive Teacher’s Edition right in front of me. The Amendments weren’t made up by me. What on earth am I misunderstanding about the Amendments?

As for the election itself, I am not commenting on it.

      • Sixer says:

I asked this question the other day and was greatly educated on how voter suppression works in the US.

I’m in the UK and I looked up our polling station stats in the light of that conversation and the fact that I’ve never had more than one person ahead of me in the voting queue and usually nobody ahead of me. To get to my polling station, I walk for two minutes and the voting itself takes approximately one minute. With no wait. Ever.

We have roughly 1 polling station per 1,200 voters in the UK. Polling stations are open from 7am-10pm.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“There are big queues in the United States because we have 324,000,000 people in our country. Certainly we are not going to have SMALL queues.”

I disagree with this (the idea that our size makes it impossible to have short lines). There is no excuse for not having adequate polling locations to serve the millions of people. Half of our citizens don’t vote. Can you imagine if they did? We’d have to wait in line for 2 days! Enabling the citizenry to vote should be a PRIORITY of a democracy.

The reason that we have such long lines, is because it is a form of disenfranchisement. Having the time to spend in line is a luxury. People with jobs without flexibility, people with children and few child care options, these types of voters usually vote democrat. By making it a burden to vote, it discourages these citizens from voting.

Polling locations are controlled at the state and local level. If your neighborhoods politics don’t match your state leadership, you might face more challenges at the polls. See Arizona.

      • SusanneToo says:

@Jane. It is not a question of the Amendments. It is a fact that nearly 1000 polling places were closed shortly before the 2016 election. Maybe you have no problem with transportation to polling places that are now miles and miles and miles away from you, but that is not the case with everyone. Maybe your polling place doesn’t all of a sudden have 100s/1000s of new voters because their polling place was shut down, but that is not the case for thousands of people. Maybe you have no trouble taking time off work to stand in line for hours to vote because of the hundreds/thousands of voters that have been rerouted to your polling place, but that is not the case for all.
What does NEARLY 1000 POLLING PLACES WERE SHUT DOWN BEFORE THE 2016 ELECTION have to do with your teaching the Amendments. That’s what I don’t understand.

ETA. I think we’re all aware of the presidential term of office and don’t need a lesson on it.

      • Jane says:

I’m sure everyone will feel better if I say I am a total idiot. Ok, feel better now? JFC–I cannot say anything here without getting slammed for LITERALLY everything I say here.

      • jetlagged says:

Each state controls how it organizes and funds their election operation – there is no uniform system, even when it comes to national elections which only happen once every four years.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think each state is on the hook for their entire election operation, even during a presidential cycle – they have to budget, plan, staff and pay for ballots or machines, polling places, election workers, etc. etc. all out of their own budget. For the large and relatively wealthy states, it’s just another line item in their very large budgets, but for small – or poor – states that have seen their budgets slashed and their infrastructure stripped by conservative administrations, they literally do not have the money to spend on a robust election apparatus.

Add in the wrong-headed Supreme Court decision a few years ago that gutted the Voters Rights Act, and there is absolutely no incentive for a state to even pretend they care about making sure all their citizens can exercise their constitutional rights.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I don’t think you are an idiot. I wasn’t slamming you, I just disagreed with one point out of your comment. I don’t think anyone intended to make you feel slammed. Hugs to you.

      • Timbuktu says:

As everything in America, instead of making sure we do it well for everyone, we practice “self-reliance” and put in place half-baked, spotty measures, such as hiring buses to transport some voters to polling places. Of course, that is not a reliable way to do it and is usually done in places with lots of voters, such as college campuses or nursing homes. That doesn’t help so many other categories of citizens.

      • Doodle says:

In Oregon we vote by mail–paper ballots that we mail in or drop off at special mailboxes at the public libraries. It’s easy, convenient, and not so easy to tamper with.

  14. lucy2 says:

I have a feeling they will let it all go, but for the sake of the country, and the world as a whole, I’m praying something happens one way or another – either the vote is challenged and determined to be fraudulent, or the electors say hell no to Trump. Long shot, but I’m still holding out a little hope.

  15. Rapunzel says:

The craziest thing in all of this is Trump doesn’t actually want the Presidency. It’s too much work, and he doesn’t want to live in DC, away from his company. If he was smart, he’d encourage electors on the sly to vote Hillary. It’s the best for him. He can say he won, start his TV network, and rant and rant as much as he likes. But Hillary would actually be Pres. and do the work.

Instead, he’s stupidly letting Pence, Ryan and the GOP have their way by using him as their puppet– which he has to do because he’s in over his head. These people he’s aligning with will dump him ASAP if he stops benefiting them.

    • SusanneToo says:

trump has no position on anything apart from enriching himself. Apparently, whoever had his ear five minutes ago has control of this ignorant fool.

      • Rapunzel says:

The “disavows the white supremacists” thing is so ridiculous…. his words are no hollow. The man has more passion condemning SNL and Hamilton than the Nazis having parades in his honor. Appalling.

I agree! I don’t think he wanted the presidency either – he just got hooked on the adulation. I honestly thought he was saying so much rubbish to turn off people, but no, they lapped it up.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I think he wants the presidency, he just doesn’t want to do the work, but he wants the power. He is already using the position to influence his business interests. Diplomats are feeling forced to stay in his D.C. hotel, lest they look rude by staying in a competitor’s hotel while looking for favors from the US president.

      • Rapunzel says:

Yes! He wants power and adulation. And money. Above all, money. But I think he knows he’s going to find the life too restrictive. I wouldn’t be surprised if the real reason Melania and Barron aren’t moving is because they know he’s just gonna milk this dry in a few months and then let himself get impeached. Then started his TV network, sell hats/merch, and hold rallies/speeches the rest of his life.

I still honestly believe he did this to make money only, because he has none.

I am sure Hillary donated all of that free food to the local shelter. Atta Girl !!

  18. Amy Tennant says:

My silly Republican parents actually think that the Democrats rigged the voting machines for Hillary and are just upset that they didn’t rig enough of them.

They’re intelligent, college-educated people, and I love them dearly, but my mouth fell open when they told me that.

  19. Rhiley says:

Her hands are tied. She told trump there is no way to rig the elections and that he would have accept the democratic outcome. This may get some boos but I feel like Obama and Sanders have thrown her under the bus a bit. Sanders I can understand to some extent but I disagree with some of his points, and I am not sure it will help the dems in the long run.

    • Kitten says:

Agree about Sanders, but Obama how so?

      • Rhiley says:

I felt his remarks regarding Iowa and Ohio were certainly pointed and suggested that Hillary’s arrogance is why she lost the election. I agree that it was stupid for her to not compete in those states. Polls were showing pretty early on that she was not winning those states and she pretty much walked away from them, instead of fighting for them. But rather than dwell on that, I wish Obama would focus on the popular vote as a symbol that while there are a bunch of angry white working class people, there are equally as much, if not more people, who want to know that their civil liberties will not be screwed with during a trump presidency.

      • Kitten says:

Oh ok I feel dumb now because I missed those comments from POTUS. But yeah I agree with everything you say here and now I’m off to Google!

      • Tiffany :) says:

With Iowa going Trump early in the general election, I think that was the canary in the coal mine. It reflected the mind set of a certain type of voter that was also going to be found in other states with similar demographics. I think she should have heard that warning and better articulated a defense of NAFTA and Obamacare. I think voters drastically misunderstand these matters, but the dems didn’t think it was possible/worth it to attempt to educate the public. I don’t know if it was possible, but I wish they would have tried more.

But at the same time, if people are fired up about a bigot who says he’s going to magically bring jobs back, it is nearly impossible to “reason” them out of that view point.

  20. Neener says:

Here’s something you can do to help. The Department of Justice is tallying phone calls regarding those who want the 2016 Vote audited. A shift of just 55,000 Trump votes to Hillary in Pennsylvania,Michigan and Wisconsin is all that is Needed to Win.
    • Call the Department of Justice at (202) 514-2000 ×4
    • Leave a message telling them you want the vote audited
Here’s a guideline if it’s helpful for you; or say it in your own words!
Hi, my name is [name], and I’m a voter calling today to let you know that I’m gravely concerned that foreign interference possibly changed the outcome of our election. I’d like the DOJ to call for cheap and easy audits of the election specifically in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio. This amounts to less than .5% of ballots cast in this election to insure that the results are the free and fair will of the people, the backbone of our democracy.
Thank you for hearing my request as a citizen, and for your service to our country.

  21. Fire rabbit says:

My news feeds are beginning to fill with leads about computer security scientists have found enough substantial evidence of election hacking in PA, WI and MI that they are saying Clinton should call for a recount in those states. Anyone else getting these yet? Or is it my personal algorithm at Google lol?

    • Fire rabbit says:

Never mind LOL. That’s what I get for skimming rather than reading details. Sorry Kaiser.

    • Lightpurple says:

I’m getting that too. Wisconsin has more votes for president than it has ballots. Something stinks in Paul Ryan’s state.

  22. Betsy says:

Ugh, Obama, come on! Did you learn nothing from the last eight years? I love that he’s an actual grown up, but he keeps acting like the conservatives are going to start acting like adults and

  23. Erica_V says:

Please for the love of God Hillary GRASP AT EVERY SINGLE STRAW POSSIBLE!!!

  24. Bailey says:

Ultimately, the Democratic establishment brought this loss on themselves. They spurned and tried to sabotage Bernie Sanders and his class message. Trump took the Bernie-style populism, emptied it of real class politics, reduced it to a jumble of affective associations, and used it to beat-up the smug liberals of the professional managerial class. It worked.

Alas, too bad for all those well meaning Trump voters and everyone else. Trump is a fraud, a ripoff artist who leaves unpaid bills and collapsed casinos in his wake.

The next four years look very grim indeed. As president he will attempt to govern by twitter and sound bite dragging American political discourse deeper into the muck. The worst case scenario is that Trump will establish a modus vivendi with the far-right Koch brother led wing of the GOP and achieve an historic gutting of the regulatory state plus a momentary debt, tax-cut, and infrastructure funded economic boom. This could consolidate a new right-wing populist base—at least until it all comes crashing down. If the Democrats continue shunning the working class, they will only help solidify Trumpism.

    • Rapunzel says:

I don’t think the Democrats brought it upon themselves. I think the public brought it on itself. In two ways:

First, the public that voted for Trump brought it upon itself by not being informed. And not caring about being informed. Or being informed, but not caring, or not being informed the right way. Trump won because voters chose to ignore reality. His supporters have chosen to resist facts and go with lies. That’s not the fault of Democrats. That’s the fault of idiocy.

Second the public that didn’t vote for Trump brought it upon itself by either not voting or voting third party when they knew it might help Trump win. And many of those who voted for Hillary still brought this upon themselves by not taking Trump seriously enough and not fighting hard enough against him.

The media aided and abetted all of this for ratings.

Ultimately, American was dying. There were two options to save it- the Dr. with decades of experience or the guy off the street with no medical knowledge, training, or licensing. The Dems put for a great medical option, and did their part. The lunacy of a particular fringe (and it is a fringe, since his supporters are not the majority) decided to try crazy option because they didn’t like the established doctor’s bedside manner.

It’s crazy. It’s stupid. But it’s not the DNC’s fault a portion of the country decided to commit suicide through inept leadership.

EVERYONE should have known better than to vote for Trump. Everyone.

      • robyn says:

Reality is Hillary didn’t do anything wrong except handing her enemies the email “scandal” to make a mountain out of. Bernie couldn’t win, too much of a socialist for America. Trump would have made mincemeat out of him, even though some folks like to think differently. The fact that Hillary and Trump were so close despite his racist sexist bullying ways, (weighed against her knowledge and years of dedication), just shows how little America respects women, especially when a “strong” man comes into view no matter how vulgar and ignorant. Trump is the ugly American on steroids.

  25. Lightpurple says:

Jill Stein has announced that she plans to challenge the count in 4 states! Do it!

  26. Fire rabbit says:

Yes!! Just read that too. She says she needs money to do it. Hopefully she’ll get it, someway, somehow. I’ll sure donate. This is a good way to get the recount without the HRC campaign being directly involved because you know certain people are going to go nuts. Its going to get ugly. And we’re also assuming she truly won, when it could still end the same. It’s just the redeeming confirmation that this election process was not clean, that it was rigged. My European news feeds have the media blatantly calling our election stolen, so even though I’m sure the Republicans are working overtime to counter this, it is now in the World’s dialogue that he isn’t the legitimate choice. Rough times ahead.

    • robyn says:

That would be great. It is puzzling how Jill got the money to run in the first place. She was seen with Russian media propaganda people at an event. Just another one of those things that makes this election feel very fishy.

Stein, probably, won’t be able to reach that amount in 1 day, especially on a holiday.
But, a two-pronged approach can’t hurt. I’ll pass it along.

They got the money! They’re filing!

      • LinaLamont says:

        I’m surprised, but, pleased.

I thought that, probably, even though Clinton’s team was working, quietly, behind the scenes, she wanted to see what Stein could do. That way, Clinton wins, without having to look as though she’s not accepting the election results. I wonder if Clinton’s team helped mobilize supporters to contribute.

I won’t get my hopes up. I remember 2000 all too well.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving, lightpurple, Sixer (even though it’s not your holiday), SusanneToo, Lola Bean, everyone here.

      • lightpurple says:

I’m not getting my hopes up either. Stein is challenging three states. I hope Clinton or somebody else challenges the fourth. The FEC just cited Trump for over 1,000 violations in campaign financing in October alone; Elizabeth Warren is demanding an investigation into irregularities in the transition and Katherine Clark has filed legislation about his conflicts of interest (which won’t go anywhere because … Paul Ryan); and it is now out that of the 15 daily presidential security briefings he should have received; he has only accepted two of them and God only knows if he has actually read them. He is NOT taking this job seriously. And her lead in the popular vote is growing. I’m praying that all this weighs on the electoral college and enough flip to give the election to her. Although I concede that that is a near impossibility and if quite a few flip but not enough, the whole mess goes to the House for Paul Ryan to do whatever evil he wants.

  28. LindsNoWork says:

Say what you will about 3rd parties and wasted votes, but the ONE thing Governors Gary Johnson & Bill Weld have on every other candidate this year is absolutely no stench of corruption or rumors of in proprietary or infidelity for that matter.
I know voters wanted to “change”, but there is something to be said about putting a wonk & a statesman in the most sacred office in the free world, who would have imagined character wouldn’t matter this year.

    • Lightpurple says:

Actually, there was quite a bit of corruption under Weld when he failed to oversee the Big Dig and let his Republican cronies fill their pockets with public money. He also chose to waste millions investigating Billy Bulget while ignoring Whitey. Whitey wasn’t a political threat; just a killer.

    • Betsy says:

There most definitely is a stench about Johnson.

And Johnson’s international ignorance was on par with Trump.

  29. chiclit says:

I think someone else should request a serious look at this situation-because there are elections coming up in Germany and France, and here in two years. Perhaps John Kerry, or George Mitchell. I would be quite interested to know what the Bushes, HW and W have to say about the stuff that happened earlier this year when election systems as well as internal campaigns were confirmed hacked. This is a matter for Interpol or Scotland Yard or an international task force. Putin already is running some Kremlin in puppet in Chechnya (he has an Apprentice style realty show) he is moving on the Ukraine and Crimea. Its awful. Also, I have a strong sense that the Russians also hacked the RNC, Trump, etc. God only knows how they will play him, or his family and staff-or even blackmail them.
