My original headline was going to be “Moron decides to be president after all.” Or: “Narcissistic douchebag admits obvious.” In the weeks following Donald Trump’s electoral victory, media outlets have been writing frightening stories about the massive conflicts of interest that Trump faces as a businessman/CEO. The Trump Organization has business interests around the world and there would simply be NO WAY that Trump could maintain any kind of controlling interest in Trump Org and still be president. He’s made a lot of noise about wanting to do just that though, especially as the horror stories about his conflicts have grown in the past few weeks. But now it’s fine, because Trump is going to announce that he’s leaving his business. He announced on Twitter that he would be making the announcement in December. Since I don’t want to embed another tweet-storm, here’s what he wrote:
“I will be holding a major news conference in New York City with my children on December 15 to discuss the fact that I will be leaving my great business in total in order to fully focus on running the country in order to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! While I am not mandated to do this under the law, I feel it is visually important, as President, to in no way have a conflict of interest with my various businesses. Hence, legal documents are being crafted which take me completely out of business operations. The Presidency is a far more important task!”
Yeah. I find it disturbing that it’s taken Trump three weeks to realize or understand that he couldn’t do both. I find it disturbing that he’s painting this as his choice, his decision to make, that he could totally do both and there wouldn’t be anything illegal or unethical about it.
What else? Trump’s Treasury Secretary will likely be Steve Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs guy who oversaw thousands of mortgage foreclosures during the housing and financial crisis. I hope the Rust Belt really loves how their president doesn’t have any ties to the big bankers and Wall Street.

The electoral college meets on December 19. He will just be saying he will do this on December 15 to forestall any movement by electors to shift their votes because of his greed. After December 19, he doesn’t actually need to follow through with it.
I think you’re on to something here, jwoolman. This is a tactic to forestall any faithless electors from switching to Hillary. It’s no coincidence that he’s planning a big media splash 4 days before the electorate convenes. And announcing it in plenty of advance so it sinks in.
Otherwise, why wouldn’t he just hold a Press Conference today? And get it over with? The timing is getting ultra suspicious. Notice this happened after a spate of negative articles about his conflicts, and the story of the elector in Texas who refused to vote for him. The chatter about electors switching votes (not voting for Trump) is getting louder, Donald. Better distract before people start getting ideas.
He is NOT divesting himself of his businesses. All he said is that he’s going to separate himself completely from the business but he seems to believe if his children are running it, it’s a blind trust. It’s not. For it to be completely blind, they would need to sell the business and an economic advisor or someone he trusts would then invest the proceeds into stocks etc. without his knowledge. That’s a blind trust. Saying you’re severing ties but your kids are going to run it? Means nothing! He’ll know that the hotel they’re selling their name rights to in Bahrain has run into trouble and maybe sell them some weapons to move it along. This is unacceptable. Sell your business or step down.
So in Trump logic, Hillary getting paid to give speeches to Goldman Sachs= horribly corrupt, but giving a Goldman guy control of the federal treasury= fine and dandy. I can’t roll my eyes enough.
And someone needs to explain to Trump that a guy with his name plastered all over his business ventures can’t ever leave his company in total.

Agreed. His children are always around as informal advisors so nothing is blind. He also has his name on multiple properties around the world. The only solution is to liquidate his assets and get a blind trust. But he won’t do it. It sucks to ask someone to do that, it’s an ACTUAL sacrifice for your country to do that. It’s totally unrealistic to believe that an individual so attached to his brand and businesses will be able to separate himself in way that does not cause concern. Blind trust or not, his position is in clear conflict of stated laws in respect to the presidents directive. How his fake university, casino involvement, labor issues, and tax practices are somehow less of a concern for people than hillarys non profit and speaking engagements is an example of the clear hypocrisy existing in his administration (omg that phrase makes me hard gulp). Like his Carrier announcement, it’s best to get the details before assuming that he’s not just spinning another one of his lies. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s likely that the employees of Carrier will have to make concessions on benefits and/or taxpayers will be paying for the *savings* of keeping those 1,000 jobs in the US.
I don’t expect Trump to sell his ownership in his businesses, either. He will still benefit personally from his actions while President and will be bribed by politicians worldwide to curry favor. Mark my word.

Ugh. Bob Gates changed his tune about Trump. They’re all caving. Trump is going to be the new norm. People are becoming desensitized.
A clerk in Hortonville WI, population 2700, gave Trump 403 extra votes on election night. An activist on Twitter noticed the number of votes for Trump exceeded the total number of ballots cast. The same thing happened in next town over in Grand Chute which amounted to 1200 extra votes for Trump and in precincts in Sauk County. Trump lost 5000 votes in WI last week before the recount was initiated.

I read that- three different counties in WI had more votes total then people who voted & thank god someone noticed (how many did we not). When the counties corrected their calculator “error” HRC’s numbers stayed the same in all three. Meaning three counties in WI gave Trump tons of extra votes, claimed it was a error in math & then they walked away saying “Oops”. Now they are being asshats about the recount. I want someone jailed for this- they are doing voter fraud & getting away with it.

MOST Trump licensing deals are done overseas, because the Trump brand isn’t that valuable to slap on properties here after the bankruptcy and/or collapse of his casinos, magazine, steaks, vodka, “university” scam, etc. The Trump company has continued to trademark names and negotiate licensing deals worldwide WHILE campaigning for President. And even after the election, using phone calls with world leaders as opportunities to ask for government favors that benefit his business deals. It’s literally insane. They’ve actually registered names and deals which explicitly capitalize, or try to, on the idea that Trump will run the USA. It’s their actual, stated added-value tie-in. And these are in countries like Saudi Arabia where, somehow, if Hilary Clinton’s charitable foundation that provides lifesaving medications in that region, received donations from Saudis, it’s something that looks terrible and fishy, but if Trump registers EIGHT companies there AFTER announcing his run, and brags about how, “they buy $40 million apartments from me,” it’s fine and dandy.

Last night Rachel Maddow played the footage of Romney blasting Trump as a dangerous misogynistic, lying grifter fraud who would destroy America if elected. Than she played the footage of Romney talking to reporters after his little dinner with Trump, calling it great and constructive, etc. So everyone on the right is falling shamelessly into place behind Trump, as long as they get something out of it. My brain is reeling. It’s like what is happening is of such nightmare proportions, I can’t process. And Trump’s evil smirk in that photo with Romney. I just don’t know anymore. One minute I think, okay, we will survive this, just have to get through four years and repair the insane damage Trump has done to the economy, global rations and civil rights later. The next minute I think nuclear war.
Another sleepless night. Trump and his voters have extinguished the flames of decency in America. He and his band of grinning gloating cohorts will have successes and failures, but it doesn’t matter. Voters chose a leader who will run the country like a mob boss with veiled and not so veiled threats called “negotiations”, strong-arm tactics and colluding with like-minded criminals, dictators and bigots of the world. He is making a sucker out of everyone, including Mitt Romney who I thought was a decent man. Why isn’t Trump in jail for working with Russia to get himself elected and why doesn’t anyone care that his business ties throw any thoughts about ethics out the window. Trump exposed what is rotten in America and I am heartbroken.

In previous elections any ties to Russia would have been a scandal. Trump quoted “Sputnik” (which is Kremlin propaganda) at a rally in October to smear Clinton. He appeared on Russia Today which is funded by the Russian government. He suggested Russia hack Clinton to find “missing” emails. He refused to acknowledge that Russia was behind the DNC hack even after US intelligence agencies confirmed it. He is rumored to owe money to Russian banks and has business ties in Russia. Of course we can’t confirm this because he won’t release his tax returns. He has spoken admiringly of Putin.
None of that matters because he told white folks in America that it was okay to hate people of color and LGBT people again.
For the record, I am so pissed at Courier for giving Trump a success before getting into office. The reality is that they are getting a great deal most likely through tax breaks and that people will not be helped. Courier wants to play this game then F off I will keep them off my purchase list this coming summer.

Just another Romney story, when he was governor of Massachusetts, the MA Supreme Judicial Court ruled in favor of same sex marriage and gave the state six months to prepare for necessary changes to allow the issuance of marriage licenses. Romney refused to accept the opinion of the state’s highest court and petitioned them several times asking for a separate but equal civil union provision, and other crap. He then tried to get a ballot referendum blocking marriage equality, arguing that we all should be able to vote on whether certain people could marry one another, (I wrote him saying that I wanted to vote on HIS marriage and would vote NO) and tried to get an amendment to the state constitution barring same sex marriage. This is all AFTER the court had ruled that it must happen. While the legislature was debating his amendment proposal, he had church groups from Kansas bused into the State House and had them stage protests on the State House steps, where they blocked MA residents from entering our own state house AND where they harassed MA residents passing by on the street or on the Common because they considered us all gay and evil. He met with the plaintiffs in the Goodridge case and then said horrible things about them and their families. He put immense pressure on the legislature to vote in his favor and argued for party unity – Republicans were not to vote for what their constituents wanted. This combined with Barney Frank’s announcement that he would out a MA state senator if he voted in favor of Romney’s amendment, resulted in my then Republican state senator coming out on the state Senate floor as he cast his vote against Romney’s bill. Mittens Romney, keeper of “binders full of women”, not a decent guy.

He’s gained more than a few pounds and is obviously sensitive about it. He used to be in reasonable shape until fairly recently, so this is a health issue for him. At the age of 70, it’s not a good idea to add enough pounds to put you in the obese category. He’s a big guy so he shouldn’t be skinny. But something really is wrong. Could be a combination of bad food, stress, less exercise and sleep deprivation that has put on the pounds. The body armor can’t explain the big change in how he looks. But it really is a health problem and is unlikely to resolve without dedicated effort.
He especially looks bad to me since the election. He’s trying to enjoy letting loose his inner megalomaniac, but he looks uncharacteristically stressed. Despite the business advantages, I don’t think he is looking forward to the next four years.
I prefer to believe it’s the ugliness of his soul manifesting itself in his outward appearance. I have as much sympathy for him as he has for anyone not a blood trump. As in, none at all.

Recounts are a normal part of our system. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for recounts. If Trump was deemed the loser with such small differences, he would be wise to ask for recounts also.
The Democrats, however, did not ask for a recount. The Greens did. They have the standing to do it because their candidate was on the ballot. That’s good, not bad.

Trump has to take the Presidential salary. That’s the law. He is free to give it away if he wants, but it reminds him that he works for us.
I doubt that Trump is actually divesting of his business interests. He did not say he was selling his businesses or putting them in a true blind trust (managed by someone other than his children, as is required in a blind trust). He is simply giving the appearance of not being in charge of it.
I think this is all for the benefit of the Electoral College meeting on Dec 19. He did not say the process would be completed by Dec 15, just that he will announce his intentions to do “something” to counter the criticism he has been getting from people of all political stripes. After December 19, my guess is that we won’t hear anything about it.
You do know he is charging the Secret Service rent in excess of $1.5 million annually for space in Trump Tower, which far exceeds the $400K presidential salary, right?

Say what you will about PE Donald Trump, but there is no denying that is a genius businessman. Hopefully he will bring that to the presidency when he takes the reins.
When, in the early 90s, the banks decided to bail Trump out, a few bankers noticed that he barely had any notions of basic economics. Yet his name had brand value, and he showed himself, for the first time, contrite and pliable. If he’s a genius, he’s one at self promoting. Plus he has an enormous narcissistic drive, that keeps him awake all night long, brooding and plotting. There’s several profiles on him from the 90s, way before any political scrutiny. Read up, it’s enlightening (and sickening).

Trump is not a genius in business. He just had a rich father who started him off and then periodically bailed him out.
He also is highly unethical. His business model includes running businesses into the ground doing the stuff he had promised not to do, skimming all his money off the top and then letting the poor fools who partnered with him deal with the bankruptcy. It’s not that easy to push a casino into bankruptcy, but Trump has the gift.
He also routinely cheats his contractors – either not paying them at all or paying them a small fraction of what is owed. Small businesses foolish enough to extend him credit (assuming he was too rich to not pay people) couldn’t fight endlessly in court- it’s like Walmart, they can take a loss in one location to destroy local businesses in a price war the little guys can’t keep up. Trump just threatened to keep them in court forever and in some cases, that really put them out of business entirely. I know I couldn’t survive that kind of loss myself. And his claim that all the contractors he stiffed did bad work is what every non-payer says. I always change contracts to insist on third party mediation over any payment disputes, so someone else has to look at my work rather than letting an unethical client make that decision. You have to watch out for snakes like Trump when you have a small business. People who work with him once don’t usually want to repeat the experience.
No American bank will finance his projects anymore. That’s why he had to go to Deutsche Bank in Germany and the Bank of China and very likely Russian friends of Putin. He defaults on loans, not exactly a way to win friends in financial circles.
He is undoubtedly lying about his income and assets. Very doubtful that he has ever been a billionaire. One of the reasons he had to quickly settle the Trump University fraud suits was because one of them would have put him under oath to answer questions about his true financial status. Whenever that has happened before, it has always come out that he has been inflating his worth considerably. But before, he could get away with it because he was just a sleazy New York businessman. Now he’s under more scrutiny than ever before in his life.
This is a three card monte.
He wants his children to run the business, and wont divest it, his children join him in meetings and phone calls with leaders of foreign governments, look for him to
be impeached in the near future.
I smell impeachment also. Which, in the long-term would be the best thing that could happen to Clockjerk Orange. He will go back to running his “businesses” and complain heartily about how he was wronged by being impeached. He won’t have to work as the POTUS (which he never wanted in the first place–just wanted a platform to advertise himself). So it will be a win-win-win for him ultimately.
The more frightening things are a) what calamity will he unleash on the citizens of America during his reign and b) which clown who follows him will have the most power.
