Cynthia Nixon confirms engagement to lesbian lover

Cynthia Nixon and friends walk in Soho, NYC
It’s true love between Cynthia Nixon and her partner Christine Marinoni. Cynthia confirmed that the two are planning to get married, most likely if and when New York passes its gay marriage bill. Cynthia confirmed the news during a gay rights rally in New York, where she and Christine were supporting Gov. Patterson’s proposed gay marriage bill, which most politicos believe will pass through the New York legislature within the next few months.

Cynthia and Christine have been together since either late 2003 or early 2004, right after Cynthia rather unceremoniously dumped her longtime partner Danny Mozes, father of her two children Samantha and Charles. Regarding her sexuality, Cynthia only said that she happened to fall in love with a woman, and didn’t see as any big deal.

Looks like wedding bells will be ringing for one of the ladies of Sex and the City: E! News reports that Cynthia Nixon announced her engagement to girlfriend Christine Marinoni this weekend in NYC.

Her rep confirms the engagement, which Cynthia revealed to audiences during the Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally. Cynthia and Christine are currently involved in supporting the new gay-rights bill proposed by NY Gov. David Paterson to achieve equality for same-sex unions.

The couple have been together since 2003, shortly after Cynthia split with longtime companion Danny Mozes.

Congratulations!

I’ve always been a huge fan of Cynthia Nixon – I considered her the best actress on Sex and the City, and her career outside of that hit show has been varied and challenging, showing her range as an actress playing everyone from Eleanor Roosevelt in a television movie to her Tony Award-winning role in Rabbit Hole. She is an ambassador for breast cancer awareness (through the Susan G. Komen Foundation), a public school advocate, as well as an environmental and gay rights activist. If they’re in love, then more power to them, I think they would make a lovely married couple. Congratulations!

No offense, but Cynthia’s fiance very unattractive, and it’s obvious she wears the pants in this relationship.

So weird that Cynthia was with men all her life, then finally dated a woman.

    Even Darren Starr(co-creater) of
Sex and the City said yrs ago when she auditioned for the role, that he thought she was gay……Cynthia was married to a man at the time…

Glad she feels she can officially come out of the closet.

Ummm… who cares if her fiancee is ‘unattractive’? What does that even mean, anyway?

I read some stuff that Cynthia said about CHristine last year and they should like a really great couple–Congrats-I hope the bill passes soon.

Yeah, who cares if she is unattractive. Ted Bundy was attractive, and the Craigslist killer was attractive.. wtf?? When you grow up you realize there is so much more in life and being truly happy and healthy.. they look very happy and commited. Congratulations to them.. they are a beautiful couple. People being gay is getting to be old news now..

I knew she was a lesbian from the first episode of SATC. She was obviously in the closet all this time and didnt just “happen to fall in love with a woman”.

Unattractive only to YOU people who say that, obviously not to Cynthia or they wouldnt be a couple.
And what the hell does outward appearnce have to do with it anyway– that will be GONE in a few more years.
Then youll find out why and for what someone “loved” you, if they really did/do at all…
And people always want to point out ‘who is the boss’ in fem-fem relationships– but when its a male-fem relationship nobody ever says “its clear he wears the pants”. Its overlooked and expected? … whatever… lots of things canbe argued here LOL

I agree with CB that she was the most talented cast member on SATC. I also loved her performance as Eleanor Roosevelt in the HBO movie with Kenneth Branaugh in Warm Springs. I am glad she has found happiness with someone she loves. I also like her honesty. Cynthia seems to have to the confidence and authenticity not to let superficial image concerns bother her. Good for both of them!

She was never married – only in a relationship with her childrens’ father. I think it is ironic that on one of the SATC episodes she was upset that someone in her law firm thought she was a lesbian. Her ex-partner, Danny Mozes, is not an attractive man. And while I am happy that she has found her soulmate, I have to agree (and should be allowed to comment) that her partner is seriously unattractive. Is it me or does anyone think her partner looks a little like Ellen Degeneres (only less attractive)?

Maybe a few Ellen like features but the heart wants what it wants

Christine looks like a nice person. She’s smiling in just about every picture out there.

I also think Cynthia is the boss in that household. She just strikes me as the one in charge.

Fem-fem relationships aren’t the only ones that have dominant partners. Opposite-sex relationships often have a partner that wears the pants, and it’s not always the man.

Why do people assume she is a lesbian? She has said countless times that she has been in relationships with men and loved it, and she just happened to fall in love with a woman. I happen to think she is pansexual, not a lesbian.

Pansexual… will have to look that up. My thought was she’s bi, but who cares? The main point is that they’re a wonderful couple and are in love. I wish them all the best. :)
