Leo DiCaprio met with Donald Trump about green jobs, climate change

wenn29741063

Leonardo DiCaprio is a big-time Democrat. He even supports Democratic tickets when the candidate isn’t all that cool (John Kerry). Leo made many public appearances with Obama administration people, and Leo endorsed Hillary Clinton and raised money for her. Leo’s big political issue has always been the environment and climate change, so it seems like a no-brainer that he would not support the candidate who publicly declared that “the concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” Well, long story short, the climate-change-is-a-Chinese-hoax candidate won. And yesterday, Leo met with President-elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower.

Hilariously (or not so much), several media outlets painted the meeting as furtive, like it’s Leo’s dirty little secret, that he was seen “sneaking” into Trump Tower. In truth, Leo actually wasn’t ashamed of it at all. As it turns out, Leo is one of those politically active guys who thinks he can manipulate and educate Donald Trump into going to a less ideological place on a big issue. Does this make Leo an appeaser to fascism? Or does it make him naïve? Because Trump will say anything in a meeting with Leo D. Trump will say that climate change is a bigly priority and that of course Leo made him see the light and Leo, he’s such a great guy, love this guy, loved Titanic, love your style, who are you dating these days, Leo? I bet she’s bangable. I bet she would love to be grabbed by the p-ssy by the president-elect. And then Leo will walk out of the meeting thinking, “At least I tried.” And then Trump will still have Scott Pruitt, a climate change denier, as head of the EPA.

Still, don’t say that Leo was hiding his meeting with Trump. The CEO for the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, Terry Tamminen, released a statement after the meeting, saying:

“The president-elect expressed his desire for a follow-up meeting in January, and we look forward to continuing the conversation with the incoming administration as we work to stop the dangerous march of climate change, while putting millions of people to work at the same time,” Tamminen said.

Tamminen told the Associated Press the celebrity not only gave a presentation to Trump and his team, but also to future first daughter Ivanka Trump.

“Our conversation focused on how [to] create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation,” said Tamminen. “These programs [are] attainable — and include energy efficiency upgrades that pay for themselves with savings, waste reduction projects that can turn every city into a source of new materials and fuels, and transportation projects that will support global trade while reducing traffic and air pollution and make America a leader in sustainable fuel and vehicle technologies,” Tamminen added.

[From The NY Post]

Bigly conversation, which I’m sure was in one ear and out the other for PEOTUS Trump. He was too busy quietly rating Leo’s ex-girlfriends on a scale of one to ten, ten being “the most bigly p-ssy grabbable.”

And why the hell does Ivanka keep sitting in all of these meetings? Does her father not know what to do if Ivanka isn’t there to burp him every five minutes?

Did he fly private to get there?

    • astrid says:

My first thought too. He talks the talk but doesn’t exactly walk the walk…

      • NastyWoman` says:

Then it was a perfect match. Trump just appointed a climate change denying, big coal/oil supporter as head of the EPA. I guess neither one of them realizes the “P” stands for “Protection.”

      • bleu_moon says:

Nah, it stands for “Profit” now. Or maybe “Pillaging.”

      • Dan Lopez says:

Global warming is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Ice core samples do not lie. I’ll make it easy for Y’all. Think volcanic activity for starters.

    • asd says:

Whatever. We all know it was just another boys’ lunch and they skipped to discussing the recent VS fashion show after 5 minutes.

    • pinetree13 says:

I’ve lost so much respect for him. I used to have the biggest crush on him! However, he constantly criticizes others while putting around in his EXTREMELY POLLUTING yacht! Criticizes other countries when California has a LOT of its own dirty-oil issues but he never comments on those! He’s now Mr. “Do as I say, not as I do” to me.

  2. paolanqar says:

Good luck with that. Trump have set the US back of at least 50 years with regard to climate change.. he is in denial and he surrounded himself with even more obtuse and in denial people.

    • Megan says:

Trump won’t set us back 50 years, he will push us past the tipping point on climate.

    • LoveIsBlynd says:

The orange POS just wants oil revenue. HE could give any Fs about dirty air water or species extinction- he knows the logic but doesn’t care. Waste of time with that stink we all stepped in. Leo just wants to say he tried. Trump will probably start driving a Tesla for the prestige and keep selling our oil to China. FYI the dakota access pipeline? All that crude oil is scheduled for shipment to China. Yes. China human rights violators low wage fear based puppets thanks the orange thing for JOBS.

  3. Lotusgoat says:

It’s admirable for Leo to talk to a man he despises for a cause that means so much to all of us.

On another note: could y’all please stop posting pics of Trump? They make me queasy. Just put up a pic of an orange dumpster fire.

Or an oompa-loompa wearing a swastika.

    • Ramona says:

Is it admirable though? It seems to me like all it does is give Trump a veneer to hide behind. “Look, I met with Al Gore and Leo DiCaprio, now ignore the fact that I have just nominated a climate change denier to head the EPA”.

I will not be surprised if Leo takes a vanity position in government. “Climate envoy” or something. Remember when Schwartzenegger was some sports ambassador during Bush senior?

    • Fallon says:

      I 100% CO-SIGN THIS.

We still need stories on Drumpf. We need them so we can have a place to discuss bigly happenings. But his FACE… we don’t need that.

Just use pics of Ivanka, we all know she’s the real PEOTUS.

      • minx says:

Agree. Maybe use a cartoon of him. Anything but that disgusting liar’s face.

      • Jayna says:

        I hate seeing his mug.

I think that melting Trump Time Magazine cover would be good. LOL

      • robyn says:

I don’t want to see his face or Ivanka’s for that matter. Why is she so involved … did anyone vote for her. It reminds me of when adult kids of aging parents go to the doctors with them because these old folk have trouble remembering anything so the kids are their ears. He is totally unfit for the job, particularly if he needs this kind of help. He can’t seem to do anything without Ivanka. Sad. Terrifying.

      • Robin says:

Were you all that upset when Hillary was so involved in Bill’s administration? They even talked about we were getting two for the price of one when he was elected. Or was that okay because you agreed with them politically?

      • robyn says:

Robin, So is Ivanka planning to marry her dad? He could probably get away with that too.

    • Olenna says:

His effort, on the surface, may be admirable but what did he really think he’d accomplish? I’m of the mind there’s a bit of naivety involved on his part as well. Paying court to a cold, calculating businessman who could give 2 sh*ts about the environment is perhaps overestimating one’s influence. Just look at who Drumpf selected to head the EPA, the king of climate change deniers. That would have made me rethink a visit with the dictator-in-chief.

      • EM says:

That’s true but perhaps it was a WTH kind of decision. Did he really have anything to lose? He tried and can at least say so and in another week join the rest of us on how disgusting the cabinet of horrors is.

I’m just confused as to why a lot of really smart people can’t figure out how to handle Trump’s PR attempts. Ignoring him isn’t the answer nor is slamming him because that’s feeding right into the strategy they’ve put in place. I know social media is new but the tactics are straight out of the Goebbels/Hitler playbook so figure something out.

    • LoveIsBlynd says:

I agree. NO more photos of the trump, his fembot women or his giraffe shooting sons. I loathe them all with every fiber of my body and spirit. Show some moron monster from a 1970s scooby doo episode. Same soulless waste of space.

  4. lightpurple says:

Trump announced yesterday that he plans to repeal all EPA regulations so sorry, Leo, but Ivanka got to stare at you for a few minutes.

  5. hnmmom says:

I don’t think Leo should be slammed for trying to get through to that man. Futile effort, for sure, and Leo probably only got that meeting because Ivanka loves “Titanic” and wanted to meet him. But I really can’t fault him for trying. We are faced with huge mountains to climb these next four years and I do believe every effort counts, whether successful or not. If enough people attempt to stand up to this guy and educate him, maybe one of them will get through to him one day (sigh, probably not). But to just throw up your hands and walk away without even trying, well, I’m not ready to go there yet. Stay in his face, repeating the message, over and over and over.

    • Esmom says:

      Agreed.

    • Nancy says:

Sounds about right. Hey Leo would you like to host the Apprentice, sure Arnold wouldn’t mind. We are definitely living in the bizarro world.

    • Emily says:

I think if you’re a person with any chance of influencing Trump to make something other than the WORST decision possible, you should at least try. I think it’s possible that Donald might listen to Leo (I’m sure Donald’s ego puts himself at the same level of attractiveness/coolness as Leo), so giving it a go is better than doing nothing because he wasn’t your candidate.

    • Erica_V says:

I agree on this – it’s clear DT won’t listen to the people so maybe he’ll listen to someone he might consider on his level in terms of celebrity?

Yes, I’m grasping at straws. Every straw possible that maybe someone can divert the Cheeto from ending our world as we know it.

  6. RussianBlueCat says:

So Trump met Leo and also met Al Gore recently. He can now say he is open to different opinions on climate change. When in reality his appointment to the EPA will gut and destroy years of progress and hard work.

    • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

      Yep! Just window dressing.

    • Ramona says:

Yes. neither should have met Trump without obtaining some show of goodwill on his part.

    • Megan says:

What was the purpose of the meeting with Gore the day before Pruitt’s nomination was announced? I assume it was to humiliate Gore. As for the meeting with Leo? Fan girling for Ivanka. Gore and Leo should not attempt to normalize Trump or his administration.

      • Ramona says:

Exactly. It makes it look like Gore signed off on the nomination. Uncle Al must be furious but serves him right for trusting that snake.

      • Lilly says:

First, I’d like to also add my vote to stop using photos of “him”.

Second, my theory is that “t” is such a petty and vengeful evil person, he allowed Leo and Gore to come to his tower and grovel and kiss his ring. Then in the ultimate f$&k you to both of them, he nominates the worst possible person for the EPA the very next day.

I believe all of his nominations are the exact same thing. A big giant f&$k you to everyone who hates him. He will destroy the planet just to get revenge on all of us AND he will feel zero remorse. The definition of a sociopath.

  7. Jayna says:

It’s all for show by Trump and his golden child. Nothing more. Trump has picked a big climate change denialist, Scott Pruitt, to head the EPA. This is very alarming.

  8. swak says:

Let me fix this for Tamminen: . . . “future faux first lady, Ivanka Trump”. Glad they all think they are getting through to Trump and having him have a larger conversation about global warming. Actions DO speak louder than words. He will use this as a “but I tried . . . ” moment.

  9. MI6 says:

According to a report today, he’s courting Bobby Valentine to be the new ambassador to Japan. It’s like a bad reality show.
    Oh, wait….

  10. SusanneToo says:

ivanka was there because she is First Lady/Co-President. Everyone knows that.

  11. Eric says:

Pruitt may not be sworn in as EPA chief. There’s a significant amount of backlash as Clockjerk Orange adds buffoon to his cabinet of bullies, bigots, and billionaires.

Great article btw. Can’t add much and really appreciated the snark regarding Leo’s current or past girlfriends. “P—y grabbable”… Haha!

    • Ramona says:

The problem is the House cant reject ALL the nominees. Especially when they come from a president from their own party. They’ll have to pick just one or two rejections and present that as evidence that they are not just a rubberstamping House. I dont think Pruitt will be one of the rejections, its probably going to be a couple of the outed racists or wifebeaters.

      • Lightpurple says:

The House has no say over nominees. It goes to the Senate. Paul Ryan and the House tea party gang would probably embrace everyone of his nominees. The Senate is less hospitable to Trump but even still I can see McConnnell welcoming most of Trump’s selections

    • pinetree13 says:

Yep this was probably the funniest commentary I’ve ever read from Kaiser. Bravo Kaiser! Your article was hilarious and informative! 🙂

    • Megan says:

@Eric – I think your optimism is misplaced. James Inhoff chairs the EPW committee and he will trade as many favors as he needs to get Pruitt confirmed.

Filibusters are not permitted on nominees, save those for the Supreme Court, so I expect most, if not all, nominees will sail through the Senate.

  12. Squiggisbig says:

I bet Leo is just deciding if he wants to leave the United states. He’s selling/has recently sold a bunch of properties. Maybe he was just double checking that trump would be as horrible as he thought he would be.

    • Fanny says:

Leo is selling the houses he bought for him mom. She’s got a serious boyfriend, she probably moved in with him and doesn’t need them anymore.

      • Ramona says:

Interesting. If his mother is in a relationship then Leo may now be in the market for serious relationship. Like many clingy mums, I think she provided for his emotional needs so that all he needed girls for was sex and clubbing. Welcome to the adult world, Leo.

      • Fanny says:

Nah, Leo is still glued to his Mom same as he always was. He still goes on vacation with his Mom and lets his girlfriends third wheel it. Except now Mom’s boyfriend comes along too.

  13. robyn says:

Uggggg. Mixed feelings. I guess you have to know what the enemy of the environment is thinking and try to educate/influence in some way. But pussygrabbing conman Trump is not to be trusted and he twists everything into an opportunity to advance his own humungous ego. He lies without shame.

Trump should be in jail for working with Russia to get elected, not pandered to. And Ivanka sitting in on everything is also maddening. Does Trump have early Alzheimer’s and so she is helping him remember stuff and who the heck voted this pampered princess, always getting jobs from daddy without needing to struggle, into the White House?

I think people have to learn to ignore Trump and his evil empire and just work around it somehow.

  14. bleu_moon says:

The US needs to shake off the conservative Christian influence on environmentalism. Our environmental policy has been dictated by the far right’s interpretation of Genesis 1:28 that man has “dominion” over the earth. Some progressive Christian churches argue that “dominion” is an incorrect translation and should be “stewardship” which would requires care for the earth. Regardless, since the 1980’s evangelical Christianity has had far too much influence on our environmental policy. It’s a big reason we are the land of climate change deniers. I live surrounded by Christians who believe God gave us the earth for our use and when it is “used up” Jesus will return. I doubt that is Trump’s view, he’s just easily influenced. He sees $ signs and figures he’ll be dead before the worst happens.

  15. Millenial says:

We watched Before the Flood last night, and I thought it was an admirable effort. Leo seems self-reflective, and he’s well-aware that his carbon footprint is larger than others. That doesn’t negate everything that comes out of his mouth.

WIW, I really enjoyed the documentary and afterwards my husband and I talked about changes we would make (lowering thermostat, cutting back red meat to once a month). So, it did have an effect.

  16. MissMarierose says:

I’m going to go with naive. Too naive to see that he’s nothing but a PR pawn for trump.

  17. Sage says:

Because I’m messy, I would love to read an expose on Leo. There is something intriguing about him.

  18. Franny says:

Didn’t Leo use donations for an environmental cause to finance a movie? It sounds like he’s got a lot in common with Trump.

  19. Elgin Marbles says:

I just want to say that I’ve particularly enjoyed the responses on this thread today. Lot’s of intelligent and funny readers are chiming in.

  20. Robin says:

Why would anyone take Leonardo DiCaprio seriously on environmental issues? He’s one of the biggest hypocrites out there.

  21. Kat says:

I agree with the at least he tried explanation. What can anyone really do at this point? This nomination is terrifying. I make a conscious effort every day to lessen my carbon footprint and support environmental agencies financially as much as possible. At least it is part of the conversation and even if Trump does everything to destroy maybe more people will start making small changes. This is one of the very rare posts on this site I have seen about climate change. More information is always a good thing.

  22. JRenee says:

Did Michelle Obama or Laura Bush sit in on meetings such as these?,

  23. Greed Fatigue says:

    Leo should’ve supported Jill Stein.

  24. Bitchy says:

    Why Ivanka is always there?

    Two reasons come to mind:

    1. The D is getting old and he needs help.

    2. The D has bigger plans: establishing the first-ever hereditary presidency in the US. I know this sounds perhaps comical or even worse as the USA fought tough in a bloody war to get rid of a certain British monarch. Nevertheless I wouldn’t put it beyond the Donald to try to establish Ivanka as his heir-to-the-Oval-Office.

As for Dicaprio meeting the Donald:
There are two possible effects of that meeting and I wonder which one will have the stronger impact.

    1. The Donald needs some pr polish and some Hollywood glory and approval to look better. So for Trump meeting Dicaprio is just a pr game.

    2. Environmentalism has been put on the table in front of Trump. This seems to be a strategy which many celebrities apply. The call out Trump for his sexism, misogynism and fraudulent business schemes. Hopefully this will keep Trump on his toes and on the right track. This strategy would be to put pressure on Trump.

    Ur thoughts?

    • Lucrezia says:

Re effects of meeting: I think number two will win out, because the environmentalists are being strategic.

DiCaprio’s guy is saying their meeting was all about revamping the economy with green jobs and Gore said his meeting was about establishing common ground.

They’re trying to get him to sign up for policies that don’t require a full belief in human-created climate change. That’s a much easier task than actually changing trumps mind (and getting it to stick longer than a single news cycle).

  25. Greed Fatigue says:

He’s no different to other hedonistic and materialistic Democrats who complain about other people’s carbon footprints.

  26. Tredd says:

    Yawn.
