Emma Stone in Roland Mouret at Critics’ Choice: lovely or unflattering?

La La Land didn’t sweep the Critics Choice Awards, but the film was definitely the favorite coming into and leaving the awards. La La Land picked up Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and more. But the actors lost out – both Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were nominated and they lost. Still, I think Emma is going into the awards season as a definite favorite. Emma wore this Roland Mouret dress which I’m not really crazy about. I like Mouret’s designs for the most part, and I really just want to force this dress back onto the drawing board. Like, the idea of it is fine, but the execution is… meh. Maybe it’s the V-pattern of the skirt?

I love that Evan Rachel Wood knows how to work a smart suit. And this Altuzarra suit is SO SMART. It’s got a narrow fit, the pants are amazing, and the belt is an interesting touch. She looks fantastic. Evan won Best Actress in a Drama for Westworld too – good for her.

Constance Wu (nominated for Fresh Off the Boat) wore Johanna Oritz. I saw her on the pre-show and the dress looked a lot cuter in motion. In this photo, it looks sort of cheap though.

Allison Williams’s Balmain dress is like a fug enigma. Like, I sort of see what she was going for – something somewhat mod, something different, something colorful – but the result on her body was pretty unflattering. The optical illusion of the dress is that Balmain made a tall, slender woman look thick-waisted and short-necked.

Mandy Moore is on the hit show This Is Us, so her career has new life, and she’s probably going to be all over the awards shows this season. I’m not mad about it – while I once found her style to be too twee and cutesy, she’s “grown up” nowadays, and so she’s going for a sexier look. She wore this slinky Solace London dress which seems like a perfect (albeit slightly basic) gown for this event. Simple, clean lines, nice color.

Finally, a pantsuit that’s properly hemmed!

It’s the best look here and it’s so sharp and clean and I love it.

Constance’s would have looked better with no bottom ruffle and embroidery.
Alison’s stripe dress is just no.
Mandy’s is nice, I don’t love the cut if the bodice though.
Emma’s is sequinned napkin awful. At least her lips have settled though, and her make up and particularly lip are excellent.

      Yes, Evan looks amazing.

Evan’s suit is the best look out of all of them!

    Ryan Gosling though…

Love Mandy Moore! And ERW is awesome. That one from girls is the worst… her smug face is too much.

  4. Belle Epoch says:

The pattern on Allison’s dress also does something weird in the boobage. Near miss?

ERW and Mandy for the win. Being an A lister and possibly the Oscar winner for LaLa Land is that what Emma came up with? I’ve seen this dress in the prom scene for 3 years or so.

ERW – perfection. She’s always a fashion favorite of mine, and that is one of her best, sharpest looks.
I like Mandy’s OK, and Constance’s is kind of pretty.
Allison’s is strange and unflattering, and Emma’s looks a little awkward.

i’m pretty certain that daidy ridley wore a nearly identical dress as emma stone, for the star wars premiere in london last year. although the cut of daisy’s top was prettier.

    erw looks amazing.

i love balmain usually, but this dress is ugly.

  8. Bex says:

That is some fabulous tailoring on ERW. Really suits her.

  9. Brea says:

Evan’s whole look is a showstopper. I need that suit in my life.

  10. VC says:

Used to be meh about Evan, but after watching Westworld, she is amazing!!

  11. kri says:

Yes, yes, yes ERR!! That look is one of my faves. As for Emma, that dress had such potential. Who in the hell let it go out of the studio only have finished. It looks like it is at the second to last stage of alteration or something.

  12. Rocío says:

Excepto for Allison, I think they all look great. Why are people saying Emma has her lips done? She looks the same to me, just not super skinny as a couple of years ago, which is a good thing of course. She looks beautiful imo.

  13. Jade says:

    Awesome suit!

  14. Mp says:

I cant believe how much better Emma looks with a few extra pounds on her.

And of course ERW killed it 😎 her look is perfection!

  15. QQ says:

GOD! ERW looks like a Dream… Emma actually looks pretty Good, but I’m comfortable giving ERW best dressed … Constance Wu looks Gorgeous too

  16. MellyMel says:

ERW looks fantastic! Ugh so good!

Emma Stone’s hair and makeup are lovely. She is so beautiful. But that dress looks like a project runway reject from an unconventional materials challenge. Let’s guess what that bodice is made of. I’m going to go with stereo speaker covering, spray painted grommets, buckshot hot glue-gunned into little flowers and the whole thing held up by an old swimsuit strap. I nailed this!😀
