Piers Morgan: Prince Harry & Meghan should get married & have black babies

wenn21009482

2016 was the year that I totally stopped paying any attention to Piers Morgan. To be fair, I only paid him a passing interest, here and there. But it absolutely felt like Piers just went Full Troll this year and he is exhausting, not to mention pathetic and misogynistic. So why did I even click on Piers Morgan’s Daily Mail column on Thursday? Because it was trending on the DM, and because he was writing about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Piers notably met and interviewed Markle earlier this year, around the time she met Harry for the first time. Piers surprisingly found her charming, which is so unlike him. As for this column… he thinks Harry and Meghan should get married. You know why? So they can have black babies and more. You can read the full column here (the way he writes is so tedious). Some highlights:

Harry & Meghan are serious: “A few days ago, they bought a Christmas tree together and took it back to Harry’s home in Kensington Palace. Surely the ultimate sign that this is a serious relationship? I mean, you don’t buy a Christmas tree with someone you’re flaky about, right? So rumours, naturally, are ablaze that they may be about to announce their engagement. To which I say: bring it on!”

Piers thinks Meghan is princess-material: “We met for drinks in my local London pub in the very week she first dated Harry back in June – and [I] believe her to be perfect princess material…. I think they’re superbly well suited, Harry needs to settle down (if even half the stories I hear about his wild partying are true then this is an urgent request…), and frankly, we all need a royal wedding to take the edge of these tumultuous times.”

Wallis Simpson comparisons: “Prince Harry’s only No5 in line to the British throne by default – and it’s all thanks to an American woman about the same age as Meghan. Exactly 80 years ago this week, his great, great uncle Edward VIII abdicated as King because he fell in love with a US-born divorcee named Wallis Simpson.”

An American Queen? “If anything, God forbid, happens to Charles and William, and William’s children George and Charlotte, then Harry will be King. And if Meghan Markle is his wife, then, in that eventuality, she would become Queen. Imagine that – an American divorcee becoming Queen of England! Yet, what a great thing that would be too.”

Meghan’s a different kind of girl: “Harry’s been through girlfriends like a scythe through a barley field. Most of them the typical kind of posh, polo-loving, and dare I say rather dull English roses that are usually carefully hand-picked for preferred royal partner status. Meghan Markle is a very different kettle of fish. When we drank in my pub, I found her to be a very smart, focused, thoughtful, feisty and confident woman. Ambitious about her career as an actress, yes. But there’s nothing wrong with that, and she’s genuinely talented as fans of her TV show Suits will know. More importantly, she seemed to have a real and touching concern for the future of the planet and its more impoverished and vulnerable members. We spoke about Rwanda, where she had recently travelled with the UN, about race issues, and about gun violence in America, which distresses her almost as much as it does me. Meghan was informed and strident in her opinions and determined to use her celebrity status make a real difference. She was also great fun, ready to laugh at both the absurdity of life and herself. I really, really liked her. So when I later heard she and Harry were dating, my gut reaction was: GREAT!”

He thinks the engagement rumors are great too: “There’s never been a better time for a British heir to the throne to choose a traditionally imperfect divorcee to marry…Since news of Harry’s new romance broke, barely anyone has even suggested that Meghan’s divorced status should be a barrier to marriage… As for Meghan’s suitability, consider this: she’s lived life a bit, professionally and sexually, and is not a naïve 19-year-old virgin like Diana. She also knows the media game, being a star already. And she has a proper job that allows for time out to have royal babies. Oh, and given the fact she’s from mixed race parents – her mum is African-American – there’s a real chance some of those babies might be black. Finally, the Royal Family could have non-white members to more accurately reflect the gloriously multi-cultural nation over which they reign.

[From The Daily Mail]

First of all, I totally had to look up Wallis Simpson and King Edward VII’s birthdays and do the timeline. Wallis was two years younger than Edward/David. He was 42 years old when he became king and proposed to Wallis, which would make her 40 years old at the time of his ascension to the throne and his proposal, and she had already been married twice. Meghan Markle is 35 years old and a one-time divorcee, not to mention an American like Wallis. Then again, Harry isn’t the king or the crown prince or the even the second or third in line to the throne. Harry has more freedom to marry someone like Meghan, or someone like Wallis or whatever. It does bug me that we’re comparing Meghan to Wallis though. Sigh…

As for the rest of it, Piers says that Meghan’s the kind of girl who will keep Harry on his toes, who will challenge him and not just be some trophy wife (psst… like Kate). I agree with that part, although I still think that if you have to talk about how tolerant you are of divorced people and mixed race people, you’re probably not all that tolerant?

Ugh Piers is such a troll

Hard to take Piers seriously when he just berated PTSD sufferers who were raped (read:Lady GaGa) because “only soldiers get PTSD that why it’s called she’ll shock. Ugh. Vile creature, that man.Hard to take Piers seriously when he just berated PTSD sufferers who were raped (read:Lady GaGa) because “only soldiers get PTSD that why it’s called shell shocked”. Ugh. • NastyWoman` says:

He is. But not in this piece. He actually has a glowing review of Meghan (smart, well-informed, caring, etc.) and ends it by saying that she’d be good for Harry because the world is multicultural and so is she and their kids would be also. To boil everything he said down to that one line and make it the title is what is a bit trollish IMO.

      • Radley says:

As a bi-racial person I found his comments offensive. “Might be black”??? Wtf does that mean? Shut up you old white fart.

I’m wondering why the British press is trying to sell her so hard? Is an engagement imminent? They really make her sound like she’s a big deal in the US. She isn’t. Most people have no idea who she is. She’s a working actress who has a supporting role on a cable tv show. No shade. I mean that’s just the reality.

If Harry wants to marry her, great. Congrats. Be happy. But this massive PR campaign is very annoying. The British media in general is very annoying. They’re next level shady. I like BBC news though.

      • suze says:

I found the article to be a hatchet job wrapped in saccharine.

      • Olenna says:

Radley, of all the tabloids and faux news papers, I think the DM is the worst in pushing of the engagement and marriage themes. It’s been said their royal writers are still butt hurt over the KP letter defending Meghan from harassment. Therefore, their headlines and articles are meant to incite the royalists, bigots and racists who already don’t like her. Morgan is only advancing that agenda with this article and, IMO, is being totally irresponsible in his comments about the race of their offspring, which should be of no consequence. I say this b/c certainly he knows how this type of propaganda worked in Trumps favor and how it lingers in the minds of fools and haters. That ‘lingering’ can be dangerous to others’ lives or well-being.

      • Lady D says:

Radley, she might not be well known, but she was the #1 google search this year.

      • WTW says:

@Radley @LadyD I also found his comments to be strange. All of the kids will have black heritage, whether they look like it or not. I guess he was trying to say that some would look phenotypically black. And I agree that most American folks had no idea who Meghan Markle was. If she was the top Google search this year, it’s because Americans didn’t know this actress. I’d never even heard of “Suits.” Started watching it because you can stream it for free on Amazon, and I wanted to know what the fuss was about. Before she started dating Harry, I would pretty much say Markle was a D-list actress, and I like what I know of her, so far.

      • Breakfast Margaritas says:

American men seem to know who she is more than American women do. She’s routinely on “hottest chicks” type lists. I love Suits but mainly because of the strong character Jessica, played by Gina Torres (Lawrence Fishburne/Morphius’s wife). She is such a compelling presence on the show but she rarely gets mentioned. I like Meghan Markle too. It’s unfortunate that she gets low key passive aggressive snark from some women.

      • LoveIsBlynd says:

That’s what makes him sick AF. He compliments her wildy, yet throws in racist misogynist comments- “a different kind of fish” “divorcee” “might be black”. This is patronizing old aunt front he edwardian era xenophobia. Yuck. He makes my skin crawl.

      • katie2you says:

@Nasty woman…Thank you! I thought I must have somehow ended up reading a different article than the one written about here. This happens rather frequently here.

      • dannii says:

He’s a suck up, he so up trumps ass on his twitter he’ll suck up to anyone with enough power because he thinks it will get him places.

      • dannii says:

@ Radley it may be to do with there being a lot about how britain is racist and how the establishment is all white (which is true and true) and they are branding her about to say “SEE-WE’RE NOT RACIST WE EVEN LET THEMINTO OUR MONACHY!!!”
As a WOC I agree with your sentiments but I would go further to say piers is just offensive to humanity in general.

    • almondmilk says:

Hmm…seems Piers is being passive aggressive, his agenda is to dog whistle the same alt-reich cretins that reside in his country as they do here thanks to Trump. Not because he hates minorities (I’m sure he’s indifferent) but because he thinks it will bring drama and more b.s.tabloid stories. His specialty.

For instance, Piers would love to be able to write a concern troll column about the racist attacks Meghan may face- problem is, that hasn’t happened yet…but he’s ushering it along as quickly as possible.

As for it’s possible Meghan and Harry’s as yet unrealized kids have a “real chance” of being black?

See folks, even Piers subscribes to the 1 drop rule (thank you Thomas Jefferson). But it’s kind of a screwball one where ‘black’ means *has more melanin* than your average ginger wasp.

If he means something different he’s subscribing to the racist paranoia and myth that used to scare people passing as white in the States to not have children with their technically white mates. That no matter how ‘white’ or light you and your parents and grandparents look, if you have even one drop of black ancestry you could still have a child that comes out looking like Kanye or Naomi Campbell.

Could they have olive skinned or very light brown kids? Possibly. But that fact, wouldn’t necessarily make them less black than their siblings that present more caucasian. Theyd have the same DNA.

Does it matter. No. Race doesn’t really exist.

..and for those keeping score. Queen Charlotte who Harry is descended from of course, was said to be part black. The Royal family also has East Indian descendancy.

      • Bitsy says:

        Well said my friend!

      • FrostedFlakes says:

Well said… I did a genetic analysis above, which translates what you have stated into genetic coding. Agreed, any of their babies will NEVER look like Naomi Campbell, Kanye West or even North West

      • Original T.C. says:

        +10000 @Almond Milk

Also the one-drop rule was set in place to deny Biracial child of inheritance of property or titles from their White fathers. A Biracial child could “inherit” (so gross) his or her Mother and other slaves then free them. It would allow Biracial children too to become wealthy and be a force in the racist society.

The White Moms (as Mom’s of all colors do) wanted to make sure THEIR children were the only ones to inherit and their children wanting the same would pressure the White Dads to enforce the one-drop rule.

As with everything in America-it’s all about money.

      • Jools says:

Like all things in America having to do with race, its all very complicated.

I think Piers is attempting to assimilate the American race view. Its a bit awkward in the translation.

When I show pictures of my Mother (who looks like Mariah Carey) to people in Europe, they are confused when I call her ‘black’. ‘But (they say in a french accent) “She iz not black?” I respond, ‘no, she’s not black, but she’s black. Get it?’ And of course they don’t.
In the States they know what I mean. ‘Of course she’s black.’ They nod.

And if you suggested to my Mom that she wasn’t black -you’d insult her and be told exactly what’s what. That’s her identity, her heritage and she shares it with many ‘high yellow’ people.

The ‘one drop’ rule may have begun as a disgusting example of race laws binding a subjugated people, but like so much that is ugly, these people managed to turn it into an identity and a culture that bound them together through a very dark time.

      • almondmilk says:

Excellent post @Jools, aptly stated! +1000

      • Breakfast Margaritas says:

Paula Patton and Robin Thicke’ s child looks very white, while Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez son looks more mixed. Still it’s weird that a child with 3 white grandparents and one black one would be referred to as “black babies” by pierce Morgan.

      • MoreSalt says:

@jools I had no idea of the term high yellow, so I looked it up, thank you for the education over coffee this morning!

      • derpshooter says:

Piers Morgan is *Piers Polkiss*. He’s just following the lead of real life Dudley Durselys in America.

    • TyrantDestroyed says:

Agreed, especially the part where he says that “Harry needs to settle down”. He sounds like the nosy aunt that as soon as you turn 30 and you haven’t got married or had children starts nagging you in every family reunion. And I highly doubt that the world needs another snob and expensive royal wedding in this moment to come together as humanity, he is so vapid.

  2. Fa says:

Why British media push for marriage can’t the royals family date someone and see where it goes, every time one of them is dating they’re expecting marriage immediately

    • Maria says:

I agree. They have only been dating six months and the media is already discussing their babies. That said, I would love a big romantic church wedding this Christmas at St Martins, full choir included.

  3. trollontheloose says:

I just can’t stand sexist misogynistic Piers Morgan. Especially when it was revealed he got some dirty hands in the New of the Worlds phone hacking scandal. He’s no good and is a good pal of Trump.

    • Tourmaline says:

He is gross and yes he is BFFs with Trump.
And how sexist is his handwringing about Meghan being a “divorcee” as if that is a terrible blot on her worthiness. The friggin HEIR TO THE THRONE is divorced himself! That cat is OUT of the bag Piers so get stuffed.

      • Ravine says:

You know who else is divorced? …Piers Morgan.

      • Madailein says:

I don’t think Piers, himself (who I loathe) is at all objecting to people who are divorced–he knows that the royal family DOES have a problem w it, though. And they do. That’s why he mentions divorce at all. It does not reflect HIS personal feelings about divorcees.

      • LAK says:

The royal family USED to have a problem with divorce just like the rest of the society, but they have moved with the times. Charles and Anne are divorced AND remarried to divorced new partners. Prince Michael’s wife was a divorcee when he married her.

Piers is deliberately stirring up nonsense when he is fully aware as a news person ( we hope!) that the last time the royals had issues with divorce/divorced partners was the 1950s. Just like the rest of society.

  4. Sixer says:

This is an excellent proposal for a permanent, irreversible cultural exchange. You get Piers. We get Meghan. Keepsies. No returns.

  5. Lynnie says:

Genes are a funny thing. Would have never guessed that she was half-black. Also the whole “have black babies cuz diversity!!!11!” thing is weird too. As if they were just tokens to check off boxes vs. actual human beings… and if they’re anything like their mom (and with Harry’s genes as well) I doubt they’ll look the kind of black Piers is expecting (which is dumb but then again Piers is as well). Idk, that last pull quote was just kind of weird and icky in general.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I found that quote so gross. He’s almost gleeful. As if black babies would really stick it to the Queen or the RF or something.

      • Sixer says:

It is gross. But it would really stick it to the Fail. I am assuming they have printed this to do a “that Straight Outta article we wrote about Markle wasn’t really us just being our usual racist selves, honest. Look at our balanced reporting. Piers likes her.”

      • littlemissnaughty says:

They can’t even pretend not to be racist. Good god. Piers Morgan is not the guy you send in the field to prove you’re not.

      • Sixer says:

Exactly. As others are pointing out above, this is their plausible deniability.

Never doubt the Fail’s truly evil intentions. Piers is an arsehole but he’s nothing in comparison to the organisation he edits for.

    • Fiorella says:

Me neither. Troian even less. Their kids may look like robin thickes kid as she really does resemble paula Patton

    • WTW says:

@Lynnie, she reminds me of Paula Patton and other biracial people I know personally. Also, if you see the picture of her as a teen with her family, with her naturally curly hair, it’s pretty obvious she’s black. I think people are shocked that she’s black because she straightens her hair, lighting, makeup and any cosmetic procedures she’s had that make her look more ambiguous.

      • sarah says:

I looked her up as a teen, and while she was very pretty, she looks nothing like that now!! Her face is much thinner, hair, skin all different.
I think she was really cute as she was. It makes me sad that she’s so different now.

  6. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Here here but don’t they already have him for keepsies? He rarely works in the U.K now.

  7. Mew says:

    So that’s how it works…

  8. Scar says:

Oh. She should get married to Harry and have black babies. Soo cool. And Meghan was charming and sweet until she makes a song like Formation or proclaims that BlackLivesMatter , then Piers will start implying that she’s just an angry black woman and she would do better to remain the sweet charming girl he met years ago. Just ask Beyoncé

  9. LAK says:

Piers has been trolling since the 90s or whenever he started working on newspapers.

Also, he is the editor of the US dailymailonline which shows. The entire dailymailonline website is a refelection of the Mirror newspaper when he edited it.

    • Talie says:

DM has been turned into Drudge Report lately.

    • Lady D says:

Never in a million years would I admit I was the editor of the DM. It’s the editor’s job to catch typos and correct sentence structure and grammar. I was of the impression the DM didn’t have an editor.

      • LAK says:

There are different editors for different editions of the DM. The different editions are separate from each other eg the Sunday edition, the weekend edition ( saturday), the weekly print edition, the online edition ( 3 sets: UK, US, Australia). Of all the different editions, the online editions are the closest to proper US weekly/ National enquirer tabloid style. They have elements of the other editiond, especially if you stay away from the showbiz/femail sections of the site.

  10. COSquared says:

David DIDN’T abdicate for Wallis! Please look up biographies that include quotes from state-royal letters circa ’36 – reasons have nothing with ‘loving an American’.

    • Alix says:

I believe he said in his abdication speech that he couldn’t fulfill his monarchical duties without the “help and support” of the woman he loved.

      • LAK says:

That was the ‘official’ excuse. And it held until the official papers wrre unsealed.

Poor deluded david really thought he had to make a choice between Wallis or the the throne.

The reality was quite different and for many reasons, political, national security, and his being completely lazy sod unfit for the position, he was pushed off the throne.

The establishment couldn’t exactly tell the public all this without causing major strife, so love was the excuse given and sold to the public.

      • frisbee says:

Nope LAK’s right about this, he was a closet Nazi or the closest thing to it, he had to go.

      • Liberty says:

LAK — so in modern times, if we make an tiny tiny adjustment and say, instead of Nazi, we make Lazi
the reason for unfitness , could certain royals in line be given the plush push to the pasture?

      • LAK says:

        Liberty: Yes.

When he doesn’t like to work #whateverworkmeans, and one has to sign off on govt papers delivered every single day except for christmas day, not to mention that weekly PM audience, plus having to show yourself to several organisations -secret handshakes and all ( i kid!), it won’t be long before they are pushed from the throne because they will be holding up actual govt work/processes.

Given his penchant for family time and privacy, he will make the public excuse too easy to sell. It’s already written itself.

  11. Chinoiserie says:

Black babies? It sounds like one-percect theory that if you have any black in you then you a black.

  12. Nancy says:

He fails at attempts to be witty and goes for controversial and gets ridiculed for any substance. Was shocked he took over for Larry King and not surprised one iota when he was canned.

  13. Kimberly says:

I enjoyed his article. Seems he can’t win either way. If he had been critical of Meghan, all of you would be jumping all over THAT. Maybe you all need to judge each article on it’s individual merits instead of digging in your heels over other things he’s said. Like, stay on topic, maybe??

    • Radley says:

If you can’t judge a journalist on their journalistic output then what the heck can you judge them on? Are we gonna go down some Trumpian ‘what he meant to say was…’ road? Nah. Piers Morgan is a racist, sexist a-hole who pimps gossip and creates drama for a living.

      • Kimberly says:

Not what I said. I SAID that THIS article was interesting. I didn’t go down the tired old route of criticizing him on prior articles. Read more closely. If we are discussing whether this article is good or not, whatever you think of him personally or whatever he said in other articles is irrelevant.

    • suze says:

Oh, I read the piece in question and let’s just say I didn’t find it nice at all.

If Piers had been interviewing a white man I betcha we wouldn’t have heard how he had racked up a long sexual life, and his strong opinions would never be described as strident.

    • KB says:

He brought up that she was divorced several times, he took the time to point out that she wasn’t a virgin, and that she was black and that “some of their babies could be” black (whatever the hell that means.) He is very clearly making these things a big deal by saying “these things aren’t a big deal!” It’s passive aggressive and it’s manipulative. He’s shown himself time and again to be a malicious, disgusting man that lives to stir the pot and create turmoil in celebrities’ lives.

      • sarah says:

Can you imagine Piers Morgan’s actual reaction if she and Harry had a baby who looked more black than Meghan? That poor child would be tormented by the British press his/her whole life.

  14. HK9 says:

Piers Morgan is just one of those people who even when they are trying to be nice, still sound like a complete asshat. He just can’t win.

  15. oce says:

Yesssss, have some black babies, please!! Hunny, do not let a flatiron fool you – Meghan has a whole lotta #BlackGirlMagic!! Makes me LOL that people are SO worked up about this relationship – let the true colors and feelings of our society reveal itself. ’bout time people got WOKE. #Trumpelection #Brexit #ThisLifeisNotADressRehearsal #Beyonce #GetinFormation #AlwaysStayGracious #BestRevengeIsYourPapers

    • FrostedFlakes says:

She always said that she has a LOT of hair which was quite curly … and that her 12 year old self would be shocked to see her now straightened hair, in other words her natural hair is that of any biracial curly/wooly mop of hair… (no offense – talking from experience)

From my casual observation she uses a relaxer and flat iron to keep her hair straight and tamed. I KNOW this from experience…

  16. Rocío says:

It’s awful and an absolute shame that in the 21th Century we are still talking about skin colour. It’s not on you, girls, it’s in the media and society. God forbids we don’t have white royals!

    • sarah says:

I’m sad that Meghan straightens her hair, changed her looks so much from her teen pictures. She was adorable!! I think that a woman feels that she has to do that makes me see what we are still about.

  17. C'estMoi says:

She’s never going to have a black baby if she married Harry.Their kids are going to turn out white/her colour.I hate Piers Morgan .Annoying twat!

    • almondmilk says:

      @C’estMoi

Meghan is not ‘white’ – neither literally or figuratively.

That tan or light golden brown color is not self-tanner or the sun, that’s her complexion.

    • new_kay says:

c’est moi- that is absolutely NOT true. `do a little research about genetics. it is not that straightforward. two parents who look white, but have a black ancestor could have a child that looks black and vice versa. No one knows what their kids will look like and what does it matter? She has a Hollywood look- which is a little white washed, like many celebrities of colour, that doesn’t make her white.

  18. Tough Cookie says:

“…there’s a real chance some of those babies might be black.”

What a weird thing to say.

    • FrostedFlakes says:

Not possible for her to have Black/dark coloured children with Harry and here’s why: W for White, B for Black

      Prince Charles/Diana; MM’s Parents
      Grandparents: WwWw WwWw WwWw BbBb
Parents (PH/MM): WwWw WwBb (Meghan being mixed race)

Children: Unless Prince Charles, Diana and Meghan’s Father had ANY Black genes, then the babies will ALL look White even if there was a single Black gene inherited

Its highly unlikely that the children will have BbBb genes (to make them appear Black)
Although Black genes are dominant genes (FACT!!!) in this case here, the White genes will dominate

Possible scenario (3 children) : WwWw WwBb WwWw there COULD be 1 child that would be mixed genes and would possibly be quite caucasian-looking although inheriting Black genes. Additionally Blue eyes are recessive genes, so Meghan’s brown eyes may dominate.

So no, they will not have BLACK-looking babies, genetically not possible

      • Malificent says:

FrostedFlakes, may I gently suggest that you can make a Punnett Square for some individual genetic traits, but you can’t make a Punnett Square for race.

Genetically, there is no such thing as race. You can’t tell someone’s “race” by looking at their genes. There are only groups that have stronger genetic relationships and tend to have a higher frequency of certain traits.

And we’re now discovering reasons why Punnett Squares have exceptions for some dominant/recessive traits. For example, eye color is actually controlled by over a dozen known genes. They act sort of like layers of stained glass, with darker “panes” of glass making the whole window look darker even if lighter eye color genes were also inherited.

With so many traits at play, I think their kids could end up in an adorable range of mocha ginger latte. But really, every child is a genetic crap shoot for combining the parents’ individual genetic traits.

At the very least, Meghan is beautiful enough to hopefully cancel out some of the more unfortunate inbred Windsor traits.

      • Carey says:

I’m Puerto Rican, my husband is white (Polish and Scots Irish). Our kid cane out with red hair, dark brown eyes (as in nearly black) and olive skin. No one on either side of our families has red hair. Genetics is weird and unpredictable so who the hell knows what their kids will look like, assuming they have any.

      • Tourmaline says:

@Maleficent Good post. I like the layers of stained glass analogy!

I get the feeling some of us find Piers quote idiotic for different reasons.

Here in America, ‘Black’ can look like many different things. It can look like Prince and it can look like Steph Curry. It can look like Rosie Perez and Victor Cruz. It can look like white and it can look like pure African. ‘Black,’ in this country is to be mixed raced 98% of the time.

So it wouldn’t bother me as much if he had been cheeky and just said, they could have black babies. A bit outrageous.

It’s the fact that he said ‘some of them’ might be black. As if it were a litter of lab puppies, some black some blonde. It sounded creepy. As if ginger ones wouldn’t share the same dna as the olive skinned ones. It just sounded weird to me.

      • LAK says:

The only certainty regarding the kids from this pairing is the unfortunate Windsor genes that will show themselves circa 25yrs old. Poor kids!!!

I have a cousin who is mixed. She is a little darker than Meghan. My cousin’s mother is about Oprah’s complexion.Well she had a daughter with a white guy(blonde hair ,blue eyed, fair skin) from Sweden.Their daughter is about the complexion of Halle Berry but she has sandy blonde hair.We thought their baby would be white because he is pale AF,like Anderson Cooper pale but they had a brown baby who actually looks just like him .

  19. seesittellsit says:

Re Piers, I can only quote Hermione of Harry Potter fame: “What – an – idiot.”

First of all, neither Chelsea nor Cressida were “hand picked” by anyone. Chelsea, if I remember, was South African, not English. And neither were considered particularly perfect princess material. Chelsea had a law degree and was a bit of a loud partier, and Cressida was looking toward a career in dance in some way. Kate is way duller than both, did less with her life for far longer, and, rumor has it, loathed and was alarmed by the prospect of Princess Bonas.

The “black babies” comment shouldn’t be dignified with a reply.

    • LAK says:

The tabloid narrative around Chelsea was wrong and a stitch up. Legit pics of her at a party/clubbing were captured every few months, but posted repeatedly over several weeks such that it looked like she was out partying every week or every night.

This was to serve a tabloid driven click bait narrative that pitted her as the drunk, dishevelled foil to cool, poised Kate Middleton who was written up as a homebody who barely drunk.

The truth was opposite. Kate spent her 20s drunk, partying and falling out of nightclubs when not on vacation for more of the same. There are thousands of images of Kate that prove her partying ways yet people believed her ‘pristine’ good girl PR image.

Meanwhile the one who was legitimately studying and only going out once in a while was trashed and labelled a partier.

      • Tourmaline says:

Agree LAK. Chelsy was a richer rich girl than Kate but had a seriousness about her education and career that Kate severely lacked. Kate’s modus operandi for many postcollegiate years was to be Will’s beck-and-call girl and devote all her energy to staying groomed and fit for her next vacation while Chelsy pursued and achieved a law degree.

    • LO says:

It makes me sad that people feel the need to put down Harry’s exes as a way to build Meghan up. Chelsy is a highly educated lawyer (though she has decided to not practice anymore) and Cressida also is university educated who then went on to get further training as a dancer. They weren’t stupid bimbos. Meghan’s merits should be able to stand on their own. I’m sure that if Meghan and Harry break up, she too will be put down to build up his new girl. Women can be their own worst enemies. Sigh.

      • seesittellsit says:

@LAK – well that’s interesting information about Chelsy!

So, why did the media do that – because it sold more or are you suggesting it was deliberately meant to show Kate in a better light, and why would the media AGREE to do that for Middleton when she wasn’t even engaged to Wm. yet?

      • LAK says:

Seesittellsit: For over 50yrs, there has been an official heirs vs spares media policy in the promotion of the royal siblings. The heirs are protected at all costs and often at the expense of the spares. This policy extends to whomever they are involved with.

The idea of showing the spare always at their worst is to build a narrative of the better, more mature heir who can never be as bad as the spare.

The public is therefore perpetually relieved that the heir is in their position because they have been primed to think of them as good people no matter what negative story comes out about them whilst the spares suffer the opposite narrative and public image.

This narrative extends to the people they date or marry such that Kate could never be vilified as much as Chelsy was vilified even if they weren’t being pitted against each other.

The only way this heirs vs spares PR policy reverses is where the public support/affection forces a change and or it becomes more profitable to sell ‘bad’ heir stories.

This doesn’t mean that the spares are saints, just that their faults are magnified to distract from the heirs’ faults so they have to be exceptional to overcome the institutionalised PR game played against them.

And editors love playing this game.

I don’t think Meghan identifies as black she identifies as mixed. I’m not judging in case you couldn’t tell. Its her choice and I’m just pointing out that unlike J Cole, Mariah Carey, Wentworth Miller, Tinashe etc, Meghan identifies as mixed. So this whole thing about having “black babies” is null. She’ll be having mixed babies thank you very much. And let’s not act like those babies will look black. They’ll be Caucasian af.
And look we made it this far today on the comment section without putting Duchess Kate down to uplift Meghan as the perfect woman. Baby steps, ladies

    • Rita says:

Isn’t Meghan only 1/4 black? Her mum is mixed race right?

      • FrostedFlakes says:

No she is not. Meghan is 50% Black — she said so herself. Well-documented, and she tells the story about her being told by her teacher to check the caucasian box and she refused. Her father told her to make her own box. Her mother is Black African-American with dreadlocks

      • BJ says:

Her mom is Doria Radlan. You can Google her.

      • almondmilk says:

        @Rita

Her mom is ‘mixed race’ in the sense that a majority of African Americans have European admixture. That doesn’t mean they have a parent or even a grandparent that’s white.

The whole fraction thing? Half this, a quarter that, an eighth this? Unless your parent is 100% whatever, you can’t say that you’re half of anything.

My mom is black but has a cream beige complexion. If she swabbed her cheek she might only have 35% sub saharan African dna. My dad is black, he might only have 40%. So that means I’d probably have the same percentage. Yet because i identify as black, if I had a child by a white man – someone would say my kid was ‘half black’ it would be true in the sense of cultural identity, but DNA wise, the kid would probably only have 20-25% sub-saharan dna.

To give you an example of what that might look like:
Michelle Rodriguez of Fast & Furious and Girl Fight fame, was on the Professor Skip Gates PBS show Finding Your Roots. Her DNA pie chart had her having 20-25% Sub-saharan DNA

    • FrostedFlakes says:

I did a very basic analysis above. Studied some stuff at University… not comprehensive here but you get the gist

    • BJ says:

Wentworth Miller identifies as mixed, not Black. He talks about being mixed in his essays. He says his dad is Black,His mom is White and he is mixed.I believe Jennifer Beals identifies as Mixed as well.
I read something interesting about how Black /White mixed people are always asked how they identify but nobody ask Asian/White people like Keanu Reeves ,Olivia Munn, etc how they identify.

      • WTW says:

@BJ Really, because I’ve read pieces written about Keanu’s race, and Keanu has famously referred to himself as a “white boy.” But Keanu’s ambiguous looks are widely believed to be the reason he was chosen to play roles in films like “The Matrix,” “Little Budhha,” “Johnny Mnemonic,” etc. Keanu also refused to change his name to something more “white-sounding.” Olivia Munn was called the “Asian correspondent: on “The Daily Show.” She’s also spoken extensively about her biracial heritage. I can think of other Asian actors, Kristin Kreuk, Dean Cain, who’ve talked about their backgrounds as well, so clearly some people most be interested in how they identify. Even folks like Cameron Diaz and Christina Aguilera have had their ethnic background called into question.

      • BJ says:

Black/ White mixed people are treated differently than White/Asian mixed people.Keanu is allowed to call himself the “white boy” with no or very little criticism.Because of the racist one drop rule if a Black/White mixed guy referred to himself as the “white boy” there would be backlash.A White/Asian person can identify as Asian,White or Mixed. For the most part a White/Black person would receive more criticism if they said they were White.

    • Jane.fr says:

I’m with you with the mixed thing. Being a halfie I do too identify mys self as mixed most of the time.

But you’re totally wrong about what their potential kids would look like. They could be ANY skin colour, from the whitest to the blackest. We’re talking genetics here, not café and milk.

      • LadyT says:

That’s very true. My grand niece and nephew from the same parents, one white and one black, could not look more different. Outwardly one child appears to be totally black and one child appears to be totally white. Fascinating.

      • almondmilk says:

        @ladyT

I have a feeling i know what you mean when you say ‘totally white,’ but with regards to your anecdote, it’s been my experience that you cannot have siblings who look 100% black. I guess if one parent were a 100% Kenyan, a child could come out almost a clone even with a parent of another race, but it’s highly unlikely that you’d get a sibling to a child who looks like Lupita Luongo who presents as Cindy Brady.

I think what you mean is one kid looks *identifiably* ‘black’ (which runs the gamut) and one kid looks ‘white.’

      • LadyT says:

Neither child looks mixed. Each child looks like one parent only. I’m not clear where my language went wrong in the description.

      • almondmilk says:

        @LadyT

To be clear: what you are leaving out of the equation is that the black parent is most likely not *totally black* him or herself, which is the reason why they can have a “white,” presenting child.

        It’s not complicated.

Your “language went wrong,” because it was hyperbole.

I got what you meant, then and now.

  29. Bread and Circuses says:

Gack, ack, gack, why did I even read it if I knew Piers f’ing Morgan said it? Whyyyyy?

*sigh* Okay, I did, so naturally I must now sputter in outrage. I blame myself, really.

If all their hypothetical-kids have the same ratios of genes, then it’s not a case of “some” of the children being black. Regardless of the shade of their skin, they could all identify as black or not identify as black or identify some other way. It’ll be up to the kids themselves, not random bystanders like Piers f’ing Morgan and his porcelain-white privilege.

  30. Jumpingthesnark says:

The subtle racism in this article is odious. I wonder who is behind it? And why now, since he met with her months ago, and she and Harry have been a big story for a while now? isn’t the DM the go-to for the Midds? Is it supposed to distract from the Cambridgeshire not going to Sandringham for Xmas eve? To me this has Carole fingerprints all over it.

  31. Cookiejar says:

1: It’s 2016. Who cares if she’s divorced. Only 2 people have to care. Harry and Meghan. As a natural development to the end of the “virgin bride” in western society is that people have past cohabitation experiences or marital experiences. Want a virgin? Marry someone from the gulf states, or the like.

2: She’s birracial (or certainly looks like it) and of the lighter variety (maybe one of her parents is birracial as well?). Likely to have far more “white” DNA than black. Are they still going with “one drop rule”? Pathetic. She may be (part) black, but in truth, she actually looks more like a latina. Regardless, not a problem, maybe the “extremely pale” Harry finds it appealing, and will certainly improve the overall skin tone of any of his (hypothetical) offsprings.

3 (or 2.1): We’re all mutts. Who has a “pure” lineage? No one.

    • WTW says:

@Cookiejar, Ha! I was a virgin when I got married and I’m from one of the Godless blue states.

    • Bonobochick says:

Latinas can also be Black with a skin color much darker or much lighter than Meghan Markle. There’s not one look that describes all Latinas. I’m 70% African & was born with red hair and green eyes along with being much lighter than both of my parents. Skin color is a very wide spectrum for Black people.

Also, she may relax and flat iron her hair – and it does look fabulous, whoever does her hair – but her edges give her away as Black/ having Black ancestry.

    • almondmilk says:

      @cookiejar

Many Latinas are part black as well. Which is why tons of black girls look Latina. Latinas are all over the spectrum.

Virgins live in gulf states?!😨😂 (soda pop nose fountain)

Not the ones i know. Hahahaha

  32. spidey says:

  34. weegiewarrior says:

If u live on central scotland the fact that shes black is irrelevant. The fact that she is a divorced catholic will be a huge deal.

  35. Jess says:

My goodness is she beautiful! Piers is a racist idiot so it’s no surprise he’d put his foot in his mouth. And while Harry is cute now, he’ll probably end up looking like Andrew eventually…. If I was Megan I’d have some fun and then cut out before I signed my life away to Granny Great Britain.

  36. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Ugh. Piers Morgan is a total needledick. No wonder Trump chose him as his first Celeb Apprentice. Vomitous.

  37. Kath says:

“There’s a real chance some of those babies might be black”.

What the hell? Who talks like that? If they had babies then ALL their kids would have African-American heritage, regardless of whether they came out ginger with a cherry on top.

Why does this man even have a job?

  38. Mirage says:

I’m so glad Meghan identifies herself as mixed-race, and hasn’t succumbed to that nonsensical and undermining one drop rule.
As for Piers Morgan, I think he was trying to be funny, because, black babies? It doesn’t mean anything. The concept of race and colour is becoming so redundant. We’re all mixed!

  39. Joannie says:

Who gives a shit? Shes human and he likes her.

  40. Sean says:

    More like light/medium beige babies.

  41. Joie says:

“There’s never been a better time for a British heir to the throne to choose a traditionally imperfect divorcee to marry…”
I feel like people keep forgetting that the British heir to the throne IS married to a divorced woman. Charles and Anne, both heirs to the British throne, are divorcees… right!?

    • Ravine says:

Yeah, but they were already divorced themselves when they married divorced people, so it balanced out. I think the “issue” here is that Harry is not divorced, so his first marriage would be to a divorced woman. If you subscribe to the (stupid) idea that a divorced person is less of a catch, then naturally you’ll look down on anyone, let alone the world’s most eligible bachelor, who opts to “waste” their first/only marriage proposal on a “second-hand” person. Incidentally, Piers Morgan himself got divorced and then married a non-divorced woman, so maybe it’s only a problem if the woman is the divorced party.

      • Lady D says:

I read about a lady who was so into recycling she wouldn’t even consider marrying a man who hadn’t already married at least once.

      • LAK says:

Prince Michael was single when he married a previously divorced woman at a time when he was relatively close to the throne.

And Charles as the heir getting a divorce himself and later marrying a divorced woman was a BIG deal for constitutional reasons.

One of the reasons Diana said she wanted to marry Charles was because he was forbidden to divorce. She said that she knew she could never divorce – something interpreted by the public as romantic sentiment when she was stating cold hard fact which happened to fit into her romantic notions.

The fact that he was allowed both situations indicates that times have finally been recognised constitutionally and it won’t be a problem for all others following him, including William, George, Charlotte or Harry.

    • suze says:

      “…traditionally imperfect divorcee….”

What does Camilla have to do with this?

  42. TOPgirl says:

He lauded Meghan for being a breath of fresh air, for the usually groomed, aristocratic, socialite, blonde young a** girls harry has been with…. Pier’s discussion really hit home how britain is changing like the demographic yet all we see is a painstaking-effort being made for a LILLY WHITE royal family, which simply is not realistic when it comes to governing over a growing diverse place…. and that meghan is a lovely welcome in all this….

there really wasn’t any trollage here you guys…. and Piers can be a troller.

  45. Anna says:

Looking at the photos for your blog entries, I see Kate next to Meghan and honestly, she looks like a younger, Black version of Kate. They both have a sparkle in their eye…maybe the thought of being a princess…!…or maybe their personalities are such. They both seem quite nice and like regular folk. I remember Diana’s death and the aftermath (watching from from U.S.) and how the children coped over time, the public info, that is. They both seem to be such caring individuals who continue to make choices for their careers, philanthropy, and in love based on what they think would have made their mother proud. Who knows what will happen…it is 2016 after all so god only knows…But it nice to see him happy and people in love is great to see.
