Frank Ocean referred to Baby Fists’ inaugural address as ‘that struggle speech’

I could cover celebrities’ hot-takes of Friday’s inauguration all week and laugh the entire time. In fact, I probably will do just that. Frank Ocean was and is a fan of President Barack Obama, and vice versa. Ocean was invited to a state dinner last year, and Ocean was so happy that he even spoke to CSPAN, which was his first on-camera interview in three years. So after we said goodbye to the Obamas, Frank Ocean decided to post a very special message on his Tumblr. God, this made me laugh so much.

I’M REALLY EXCITED FOR THESE INAUGURATION CROWD NUMBERS TO COME IN.

Don’t cook the books either Donald. We all know your event was dry. No matter how many times CNN anchors repeat majestic or peaceful transition of power. The world can see America divided and the chaos in the streets. Barack we love you but it would’ve been equally presidential if you would’ve just walked on out while Donald got through that struggle speech trashing your career. The majority knows man, we know you did good. We see it. The majority sees Donald for who he is too. He ain’t slick. And it’s too bad the majority doesn’t count. In any event, a first family that I can relate to will be missed. Really though.

“But it would’ve been equally presidential if you would’ve just walked on out while Donald got through that struggle speech trashing your career…” YAS. “That struggle speech” is giving me life. I seriously can’t stop giggling about it. To have a president/emperor whose inaugural address is referred to as “that struggle speech” is just next-level. I mean, if I think about it too hard, I’ll break out in a stress rash. But let me just enjoy Frank Ocean trolling the sh-t out of the baby-fisted troll-in-chief.

    Frank Ocean 2020!

Or do you not think so far ahead? Cause I’ve been thinkin’ bout forever

  2. BeBeA says:

He is right, My six year old has more depth when she is explaining to her siblings why they may not touch her belongings without asking first! The struggle is officially real America.

  3. Margo S. says:

I love frank ocean. And his comments are so true.

    • Nicole says:

I also love Frank Ocean. I follow his Tumblr and was laughing hysterically at this post. Unfortunately since AA are expected to have more class than white people (even when they are trashing them personally) I’m not surprised The Obamas sat there. Michelle couldn’t hold her disdain in though. It’s okay the struggle is real for black girls/women to hold that shade in. They got through 8 years of peak racism what was one more day.

I look forward to trolling trump every day until he’s impeached. Then I’ll move to Pence.

      • Sunglasses Aready says:

        @Nicole. I’m right behind you.

      • Lama Bean says:

Michelle’s faces during the ceremony are what the best memes are made of. I Love her even more for that obvious disdain. Barely any makeup, hair pulled back like she did it 10 minutes before appearing in public, obvious look of being over it.

  4. Rapunzel says:

Lol…”that struggle speech” is such beautiful accuracy. It would have only been better if he’d referred to it as a faux or fake struggle… maybe #alternativestruggle?

But no matter… It was a sick burn. Take note, DT: That shade from Ocean is real American carnage.

    • Esmom says:

Yes, DT, take note. Love what he said. As I lay in bed, down with the flu, listening to the inaugural speech, I became increasingly enraged for the Obamas. The darkness was astonishing to me. Thank goodness celebs are calling Trump it on his f^ckery, and calling him out so specifically.

  5. Megan says:

He summed it up perfectly. Nothing to add here.

  6. Indiana Joanna says:

    Hahahahahahahahaha. Thanks, Frank Ocean!

  7. Patricia says:

    Shades of “mein kampf” perhaps?

The small amount of the speech I was able to watch before I flew off the couch in a rage and had to go distract myself included what seemed to be a bashing of Obama’s entire years in office. The very years which handed Trump one of the best economies ever to be handed to an incoming president. The disrespect is shocking.

    • IlsaLund says:

Isn’t it ironic? Clinton handed Bush a great economy with a budget surplus and he destroyed it. We went into a Great Recession that we’re still recovering from (cause of course the black President didn’t magically fix everything all by himself). And now Obama hands Emperor Baby Fists an improving economy and we all know he’s gonna trash it as well.

  8. HK9 says:

Yassss Frank the struggle is real!

  9. BearcatLawyer says:

I am SO HERE for Frank Ocean. He nailed Cheeto Mussolini to the wall!

  10. Lucy says:

I only knew him by his music, had barely seen his face. He’s so cute!!

  11. Chelsea says:

    Frank ocean is everything!!

He’s also who everyone thought kanye was way back when.

  12. Katherine says:

Thanks for sharing, I loled, this is lit

  13. teacakes says:

I love Frank Ocean, and I love him even more for his reiteration of the word ‘Donald’ throughout that message since we know Agent Orange dislikes his first name/being addressed by it.

God help us all now, though.

  14. Nibbi says:

yeah “struggle speech” is so, so apt.
it’s funny bc of mocking a billiionaire’s whining ego, but at the same time it’s horrible – and horribly true- that it evokes hitler’s “mein kampf” – “my struggle” – thing.
    god, what have we done
and god, will any of this backlash matter?
