Katy Perry got a lot of attention in January when she claimed that she was going to be celibate for a year. In fact she said she wasn’t going to even kiss anyone – with the exception of her cat. Katy had just split with her boyfriend Travis McCoy - they’ve since gotten back together). Even before they rekindled their romance, Katy said she was joking – though apparently there is a small kernel of truth in the joke. Perry says she finds hooking up and casual sex disgusting, and doesn’t get the appeal of sharing bodily fluids with strangers.
She sang the song ‘I Kissed a Girl,’ but that’s as far as pop star Katy Perry is going. The singer, who is currently involved with rocker musician Travis McCoy, says she loves to flirt with strangers - and that’s absolutely it.
According to WENN, Perry says, “Getting your flirt on is the best thing in the world, but when it comes to sharing bodily fluids with a person I don’t know - no thank you.”
Perry explains, “For me, it’s not a past time, going out and meeting people and trying to hook up with people. That actually makes me feel disgusting. From a really early age, I was really sensitive to that.”
Of course, this is not to say that Perry has anything against intimacy in general. After teasing reporters about adopting a vow of celibacy during a temporary split with the Gym Class Heroes frontman, the singer remarked, “Celibacy for the whole year? I’d rather die.”

I really like that Perry shared something so personal. It could easily make her look uptight or prudish, given the way a lot of celebrities behave. But she’s not really condemning anyone else, just saying it’s not her thing and she doesn’t get the appeal. She’s not preaching virginity or any of that other tween pop star stuff that few people believe. She’s just saying she doesn’t care to get it on with random strangers – something plenty of people agree with. It’s nice to hear that from a celeb who’s not claiming to be ultra pure nor behaving like a skank.

It’s even more disgusting when you think about STDs– that Herpes commercial that says that 1 in every 4 sexually active adults is infected or has come in contact with said Herpes.
Probably the only instance where I’ll ever agree with Katy Perry.

Yep. I don’t judge others for it, but if I were single again, casual sex wouldn’t be for me. No way. I mean, I was semi-casual about it in my youth (but never to the point of just meeting someone and hooking up immediately), but now I can’t even imagine it. Ewww.
As long as people are safe, hey whatever floats your boat. Just not for me.

She’s fake too. “I kissed a girl, I kissed a girl…” so she’ll promote the image of casual sex… that’s a tease. But, you know, whatever, I don’t really know much about her.

nony, while i agree that you’re particularly playing chances with those odds if you’re promiscuous, you don’t have to be promiscuous to get an STD. It’s kinda not picky that way.

I was a teenager in the 70’s when it was all about free love. Problem is “free love” even if it didn’t bring about an unwanted pregnancy or STD’s - it caused a lot of shame. I felt used after waking up next to a stranger who often turned out to be a jerk or having great sex with a guy that just zipped up and walked away. After being monogamous for 22 years, sex is better than ever! Hope teen girls listen to Katy and save themselves a lot of heartache.

I find this to be contradictory.
Has she never listened to her own song, “I Kissed a Girl”? The lyrics glamorize casually making out with other people, and to make it even worse, while the lyrics are implying she’s in a relationship!
So Katy Perry’s either a liar or a hypocrite, or apparently so desperate for media attention that she goes against her own values by promoting casual sex in her music lyrics?

I agree Vibius. I don’t even think she likes girls. If she did wouldn’t she have kissed a girl in the music video? No, the video was boring. Just of her sitting around looking kinda pretty.
