Ivanka Trump will be getting a West Wing office, govt. phone & security clearance

Melania Trump is absolutely, positively moving to Washington in June or July. She’s waiting for the end of Barron Trump’s school year, and then she’ll move into the White House and assume the First Lady’s office and all that comes with it, I suppose. Which means that Emperor Baby Fists’ preferred First Lady, his daughter Ivanka Trump, will be left out in the cold. Except not really, because Daddy’s Little Girl is now getting her own West Wing office, complete with security clearance and more.

Ivanka Trump, who moved to Washington saying she would play no formal role in her father’s administration, is now officially setting up shop in the White House. The powerful first daughter has secured her own office on the West Wing’s second floor — a space next to senior adviser Dina Powell, who was recently promoted to a position on the National Security Council. She is also in the process of obtaining a security clearance and is set to receive government-issued communications devices this week.

In everything but name, Trump is settling in as what appears to be a full-time staffer in her father’s administration, with a broad and growing portfolio — except she is not being sworn in, will hold no official position and is not pocketing a salary, her attorney said. Trump’s role, according to her attorney Jamie Gorelick, will be to serve as the president’s “eyes and ears” while providing broad-ranging advice, not just limited to women’s empowerment issues. Last week, for instance, Trump raised eyebrows when she was seated next to Angela Merkel for the German chancellor’s first official visit to Trump’s White House.

As her role in the White House grows — a role that comes with no playbook — Trump plans to adhere to the same ethics and records retention rules that apply to government employees, Gorelick said, even though she is not technically an employee. But ethics watchdogs immediately questioned whether she is going far enough to eliminate conflicts of interest, especially because she will not be automatically subjected to certain ethics rules while serving as a de facto White House adviser.

[From Politico]

The Politico story is very long and it involves an in-depth conversation with Ivanka’s lawyer about how Ivanka will be in full compliance with all ethical standards. While I doubt that Ivanka will be the most ethical person to ever ethic, it also sounds like Ivanka has taken more pains to divorce herself – however superficially – from her private business interests than her father ever has. Ivanka can’t even join the Baby Fists administration as a real employee, nor can she be sworn in. She still owns her labels (which are selling well online), she can still promote those labels by wearing Ivanka-branded clothes and jewelry and shoes to White House photo-ops. She’s also releasing a new book in May, because of course she is. This family of grifters, I swear to God.

official cheap shoemaker to the king?

    • Annetommy says:

I expect she feels it’ll give her greater opportunities to drool over Justin Trudeau.

    • lavnbb says:

This is so wrong and so typical Trump, just do as he pleases, after saying Ivanka would not be official anything.

but it’s also being released now as a distraction away from the TrumpRussia Putin hearings!

IMO Her SNEAKY intention was always to behave as First Lady, but they had to reel that notion back because the public was side-eyeing it. I also think Trump wants her in there as eyes and ears, he is so paranoid. This will all end up in a MESS!

      Grifters.

  2. Qzie says:

This is just wrong. A family of grifters. You hit the nail on the head. I personally don’t think it is right that one cent of taxpayer money go to support this woman, but I guess we’re continuing to spend more than that to make sure this family is happy.

Luckily the Cheeto seems to have bigger problems coming to roost long term (wiretapping lies, Russian connections) so this may be a short term annoyance.

    • Kelly says:

I used to think the Kardashians were the biggest family of grifters I have ever seen, but these idiots take it to a whole new level. And they’re about as subtle as the Kardashians as well. 🙁

      • BearcatLawyer says:

God help me, I never thought I would ever say this, but the Kardashians look halfway decent compared to Cheeto Mussolini and his family.

      • Beluga says:

I honestly have more respect for the Kardashians. At least they have never pretended to be anything else and haven’t sunk so low as to screw over a whole country for their own gain. They just sell tat that people are willing to buy for some reason.

      • Lolo86lf says:

The Trumps are now the new Kardashians.

      • Angela82 says:

God help me for saying this but at least the Kardashians weren’t actively trying to get us nuked or kill off 24 million people who can’t afford healthcare. They knew their place and brand. 🙁

ETA: I think their biggest negative is that Americans are now so engrossed in reality tv and drama that they think it carries over to the government and that is just unacceptable. We really need to make America smart again or we are doomed.

      • Betsy says:

This to all of you! God help us, the Tramps make the Kardashians look like a family with hustle.

    • Saras says:

Tsarina gets her place in the palace! How unexpected for the Trumpanovs! It was really nice of Steve Miller to buff his fivehead to help give her the best lighting for that picture. I guess he does not hate Jews as much as we thought!

  3. Chelly says:

I wish this family could just go away.

    • lavnbb says:

They will try to take the whole Country down with them first. If Impeachment hearings ever happen for Trump, I think he will try to destroy Democracy as we know it , but he’s doing that already.

  4. RussianBlueCat says:

Move over Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, the “Trump House of Cards” is looking to take over

  5. original kay says:

I think maybe she is there to control him? like his behaviours?

then Jenns (I think, sorry if I am wrong) said that she is there because she has to explain stuff to him! and I bet that’s it, he doesn’t get it and maybe all the rumours about dementia are true?

could be. we know he has the attention span of a gnat.

    • Jenns says:

Yep. That’s my theory. I don’t think he cares, understands, or even cares to understand what’s happening in these meetings. He’s just dreaming of golfing in Florida.

Also, after the meeting with Merkel, there was a lot of questions as to why she was there since she has no official role in this administration. So this could be a move to silence those who are questioning.

    • bleu_moon says:

I think with the stress of the investigation he’s in danger of going (further) off the rails. Someone needs to be there to rip the phone from his hands before he tweets out classified info. She’s the Minder in Chief, but will grift on the side. Maybe she won’t get security clearance?

ETA: I do think he’s possibly in the initial stages of early onset dementia. Stress can’t be good for that either.

    • Lightpurple says:

I do not think she is there to control him. I doubt she sees any reason to control him. She is there to maximize profits for Brand Trump and if that means delving into arms manufacturing, so be it.

      • Esmom says:

Oh geez, I ws just about to agree with bleu moon just above you then I saw your comment and feel like your more cynical take is in fact correct.

      • vauvert says:

I’m with LP. Look, if the family “concern” was Trump’s mental state – or lack thereof, which those of us sane can easily see – they would have stopped him long ago.

They are all there to line their pockets. After Trump killed the TPP on his first day guess who has been quietly negotiating with China for billions? Kushner, that’s who. They are owned, lock, stock and barrel. Being in the WH is their ticket to become true billionaires. Kushner’s convict father has been picking people they installed in high ranking positions including but not limited to other former convicts, Nazi group members etc. It’s insane.

      • Lightpurple says:

Ivanka does not have an ounce of ethics or compassion in her body and clearly sees nothing wrong with what he is doing. She isn’t there to control him but to put a pretty face on his crap. He botched a raid and kills kids and she tweets pictures of hers singing. Yesterday, as he’s attacking intelligence agencies testifying in Congress against him, in the POTUS handle no less, she was tweeting about the joys of being an aunt when she should have been wrestling the phone out of hands. If he loses it completely, she’ll prop him up and run a shadow government, and she’ll be as bad or possibly worse, not better.

      • Original T.C. says:

        +10000 @Lightpurple

This narrative of Ivanka and Jared as the ones to control Trump has been debunked a while ago. She and her father are of the same mind except she hides behind a surgically enhanced pretty package. Many Jewish Rabbis have said if needed she and her husband can interfere with her Dad’s tweeter habits during the Sabath.

This was all planned from the get go. When has Trump ever been departed from his daughter. At work? No. On TV? No. She is trying to sneak in while the press focus is on the Russian-Trump ties. I don’t trust anything this family says nor trust them further than I can throw them!

      • JRenee says:

1000%. After this fiasco, new rules need to be put in place with regards to presidential vacations, presidential residences, doing business on personal property, redifined nepotism laws as well as enforcement of emoluments clause.
        This is utterly unacceptable behavior.
She has no business receiving security clearance.
The current Republican House and Senate are abusing every aspect of the office.

    • PunkyMomma says:

I agree. She’s there to babysit him. Give him his meds on a regular basis — clearly he’s off the rails.

    • lavnbb says:

She’s there to be his ears and eyes and spy on staff and whomever is going to turn on him and sink his ship and lead to Impeachment.

This Ivanka news was announced conveniently during the TrumpRussian-Putin election meddling to distract the press to a NEW newstory.

This family are disgusting. Total cons.

  6. Lightpurple says:

I read the attorney’s comments in the Politico article and yes, no. Absolutely not. Minimal effort to pretend to comply with ethics rules is going on here. She will be running her companies from the White House and using our resources to do so.

Giving that piece of plastic security clearance is a national disgrace. She has no training, no experience, no skills for handling that type of information.

And is she PAYING for that office? Michelle Obama’s mother had to pay rent. Ivanka had better cough up the dough.

    • Megan says:

Jamie Gorelick should be ashamed of herself. She was the Deputy Attorney General FFS. Finding legal loopholes for these grifters is worse than ambulance chasing.

  7. teehee says:

Because shes smarter than the elected men combined?

But seriously this smells of corrution, with the biggest capital T, from far away. Rich people getting their way in to where they should never have been allowed. And that, to the detriment/disregard of all those below them, whom it will impact. To quote Trump: “sad”.

  8. Snowflake says:

I am so upset by this. And people believed her when she said she had no interest in politics, she has her business to run. Bunch of con artists in the WH. Country will never be the same after this is all done!

    • Lightpurple says:

They see no difference. They believe that government should be run like a business with no realization or concern that when governments are run like businesses, people die. Donald Jr has said that government ethics rules are outdated and make no sense and need to be updated. No. The Trump crew needs to start obeying the laws. They need to conform to the laws, the laws don’t need to conform to their greed.

    • G says:

She is as bad as her father, if not worse. The surgically-enhanced, socially acceptable packaging sits better with some and makes her all the more dangerous.

  9. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

She won’t be there long as daddy will be kicked out the WH house soon enough.

    • bleu_moon says:

I wish I had faith in that. I’m not convinced anything will come out of the investigation. I no longer have faith in the FBI or Comey since the election. I really worry this whole thing is a show so Comey can say, “Look, we investigated and found nothing. Just like Clinton! Case closed.” There’s a reason Trump kept Comey at the FBI and I have a feeling it was for exactly this.

      • Megan says:

I don’t trust Comey at all. I definitely think someone in the FBI was leaking info to Trump’s campaign.

      • robyn says:

I worry about this too. Comey is not to be trusted. He cares more about how Republicans view him as “ethical” than finding the truth. He proved his loyalty to the Republicans by releasing info on Clinton’s investigation but not Trump’s.

There needs to be an independent investigation about Trump but also Comey. Also, I seem to recall there was something fishy about how the Weiner emails showed up when they did and I read somewhere that the woman Weiner was messaging with was actually a Trump supporter. That whole thing might have been another part of a set up to get Clinton. All Republicans and Trump supporters are complicit imo, including those coal miners who will get hurt by Trump in the end.

      • Esmom says:

I’m with you, not at all confident that anything will come of the investigation. No one seems willing to put country over party and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

      • Kitten says:

I feel exactly as you. Nothing will come from this, which is why we need to focus on things we can actually change without the help of politicians, like the upcoming mid-terms.

  10. cindyp says:

Home Health Aide for our lunatic POTUS. Hope she has to change his adult diapers. I am so looking forward to the day that these awful people are hauled off to prison. All of them are involved with the Russians.

  11. hnmmom says:

May she also be dragged out of the WH in handcuffs like her daddy.

  12. Who says says:

Speaking of Ivanka and her clothing line , yesterday a “California-based fashion retailer filed a class-action lawsuit against Ivanka Trump’s brand accusing it of having a trump card that gives it an unfair advantage among competitors-her father

Modern Appealing Clothing claims the First Daughter’s company, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC, is profiting off her political connections, citing President Trump and her husband Jared, according to SFGate.”

    • bleu_moon says:

This is another thing I never understood about the Trump family not divesting from their businesses. Surely they knew they would face a long unending string of law suits? Of course, that seems like par for the course for the Trump family. They must have calculated that they could grift more than they’d lose.

Ivanka has been sued for ripping off other people’s designs before too. I’m really hoping she doesn’t get security clearance- not that that will stop her from seeing classified info. Apparently you just have to have a membership at Mar-a-Lago to see the classified document floor show.

      • Ange says:

Law suits don’t worry the Trumps, they got out of them all when he was just a ‘businessman’ and you know he’s going to throw the weight of the whitehouse behind any against them now. Cheap con artists the lot of them.

  13. LAK says:

Her book has been in the works for some time. It’s initial release date was sometime last year. The date was then pushed forward to this year.

  14. SusanneToo says:

Now she’ll have an official reason to cozy up to PM Cutie Pie. But, seriously, she’s such a dedicated mother. Will this cut into the 45 minutes a day she spends with her children?

  15. Beth says:

Office? Why? Her dad won’t be there long enough for her to get this office

  16. HK9 says:

She doesn’t belong there period. She will continue to enrich her & her family’s businesses by being privy to information no one else has and she can’t be of service to the American people because she has no ‘official’ role. She can’t control El Cheeto and she certainly can’t control the power hungry fascists around him so her presence will always be suspect in my opinion.

  17. AnnaKist says:

Talk about having a bet each way… She has no official position, yet she is given an office, possible security clearance and government communication device AND already sits at the table with world leaders. The fact that she is even in the White House in any capacity is highly unethical. My god, we might have some issues with our government here in Australia, but if anyone tried this shite down here, they’d all be tossed out on their arses. Slow-turning wheels of bureaucracy notwithstanding, can nothing be done to dump the trump? I’m just….completely gobsmacked by their unmitigated gall, and that they just don’t give a toss about how they are perceived or what people think. How long are they going to be allowed to get away with their shenanigans? God, I really feel for you guys.

  18. Bluesky says:

Imagine the headline “Obama’s brother in law getting West Wing office and security clearance” the GOP would have a complete meltdown and calling for a ethics hearing. Just goes to show you ………

    • Lightpurple says:

They’re still melting down over Michelle’s mother, who paid rent.

      • SusanneToo says:

And Mrs. Robinson did not receive SS protection. And the adult children of other presidents did not receive SS protection. But the Grifter-in-Chief’s spawn are more than happy to soak us for every penny.

  19. robyn says:

Anybody vote for Ivanka? Another piece of aggravating news but since she IS complicit she might as well be held accountable as a complicit member of Trump’s seemingly incestuous/corrupt entourage.

I worry she will wiggle out of accountability, however, because I read here she will not be sworn in.

  20. OhDear says:

This feels like a modern-day version of the Borgias.

  21. Adrien says:

She got the west wing because she is the one who styles her dad’s hair.

  22. Adastraperaspera says:

I worry most about how her being in the WH and at the table with foreign leaders has eroded our standing in the world. She is a foreign policy disaster. Allies will read this as nothing but corruption. Adversaries will know we can be bought.

  23. Pumpkin Pie says:

If there isn’t a legal way to hire her, she should not set office in the WH. I cannot believe she is allowed to have one. It’s a question of accountability AND liability. There is nothing anyone can do?

    • Radley says:

I agree. She’s more getting around the rules than complying with the rules. If she was compliant, she’d stay the h#ll away.

  24. SusanneToo says:

I disagree with those saying take away trump’s twitter. His tweets provide the rope he’s going to hang himself with. Let ’em rip, donnie.
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/03/20/president-trumps-terrible-horrible-no-good-very-bad-twitter-day/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_factchecker-0603pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.45284370b051

Her job is to tell Emperor Baby Fists how awesome he looks in his new clothes.

    • Radley says:

And that his @ss isn’t wide and flat as a barn door. No daddy, it’s perky and round. God, I can’t with these people.

  26. Eric says:

Ivanka the Terrible might be taking the daily briefings and explaining the content to Emperor Zero.

“See daddy. This is Iraq and this is Yemen. You got it now! Also, North Korea has a thruster, which they would use as a booster to send a nuclear device..a nuclear device…a NUKE! to the west coast of America. I know you don’t like the west coast, but still…”

    “Where’s Justin? Yum”

  27. HappyMom says:

Can you imagine if HRC had won and Chelsea set up her own office??? Fox News would have had a field day! The hypocrisy of these people is mind blowing.

  28. Jesie says:

It’s absolute BS…but I’m sure she’s already been doing things that require a govt phone and security clearance, and she’s camped out in the oval except for during shabbat, so nothing’s really changing here.

    • Kitten says:

Right. It’s f*cked up but I’m pretty sure they’re just making her role *official”. She’s already attended meetings with world leaders and she has had a consistent presence in the Oval Office since her daddy was elected so…whatever.

Still think we need to worry more about POLICY and less about the optics of the current administration. As frustrating at it is to see the utter hypocrisy of the GOP, the truth is that they will let Trump do whatever the f*ck he wants, as long as he pushes through their vile political agenda.

  29. VegasSchmagus says:

She provides a “calming” factor for him. And puts the straws in his juice boxes.

  30. TyrantDestroyed says:

I have an honest question: How a powerful and profoundly law abiding country that is the United States of America can allow this level of rampant corruption? Isn’t anything or any institution out there that can stop the President from blatantly lie and abuse the goodwill of their citizens?

    • Lightpurple says:

Well, there is but they’re too busy right now destroying healthcare and stealing Supreme Court seats to deal with Putin’s puppet and his unethical spawn.

  31. Harryg says:

I’m so repulsed by this all.

    • Original T.C. says:

Me too. Remember these are the same people looking down on poor people, those unfortunate enough to not have been born to a millionaire. The same people who only work 30% as hard as the poor but get jobs given to them without qualification.

      • adastraperaspera says:

Yes, so true. Americans get up every day and work hard to create and sustain a peaceful, prosperous society. The thanks we all get from the (never-worked-a-day-in-their-life) 1% for this? Cynical racketeering and treasonous corruption. Not to mention the fact that it is our money they have stolen to become rich.

  32. Mary says:

The relationship between trump and his daughter/faux First Lady is very twisted. Impeach now and clear these grifters out of our White House.

    • Radley says:

I’m so uncomfortable. I just want them all out of my life.

    • Elisa the I. says:

Someone called her Daughterwife on another thread. 100% spot on.

      • SusanneToo says:

Glad you liked it. It fits.
If there’s anyone here who doesn’t yet believe their relationship is creepy, just google images ivanka and donald trump. There is picture after picture after picture that, if it were an uncle or family friend, would have you notifying the authorities.

  33. Bitchy architect says:

    I. Hate. Her.
    That is all.

  34. Radley says:

Disgusted by what an enabling opportunist she is. She knows as well as anyone that Dump Truck is unfit to serve. Is she really planning to follow behind him and clean up his messes? Is that what she’s been doing all her life? Does she think she can save daddy and make a buck while doing it? What a sick, sad woman.

This family is so effed up. I’m tired of being exposed to their dysfunction. How can they even stand to be around each other? They all ooze toxicity.

P.S. Ivanka, you’re not ready for primetime either, hunny. All of you Trumps overestimate yourselves by a wide margin.

  35. VegasSchmagus says:

    edit

  36. holly hobby says:

Wow she isn’t aging well these last few months. I hope the CIA hacks into her government issued phone. How is this ok? Seriously!

I suppose this is the Apprentice =White House edition so we need her to chime in with her two cents whenever something happens right?

Ugh seriously, when will this turd get impeached?

  37. Switch says:

I urge all American readers and posters to write your congress person if you are concerned about the role Ivanka and Jared are playing in the administration as Trumps family members. If you feel it is corrupt and unethical you need to speak up. There isn’t enough public outcry about this as there should be.

  38. Jezza says:

This is such bullshit. How is any of this legit??? Doesn’t Daddy Crepiest have enough staffers to be his eyes and ears??? She has no business being there. At all. She is unelected, private citizen and has no business being at any meeting with any foreign leaders. In any capacity.

  39. jana says:

Because if theres one thing an administration that is literally on fire with corruption needs, it’s a fashion designer.

  40. Deeanna says:

As soon as I heard about this today, I figured that Ivanka must have been unhappy about the New Yorker article about Kellyanne and her West Wing office. Kellyanne and her security clearance. Kellyanne and her attendance at “important meetings”. And most important of all, Kellyanne being called a STAR (by someone other than SNL).

    Ring, ring: “Trump here!”
IT: “Daddy? It’s me, Ivanka. Did you see this article about Kellyanne being a STAR???”
DT: “Uhh, yep, I saw it, I saw it.”
IT: “Well, I want immediate security clearance! And I want a West Wing office of my own! And I want……”
DT: “Now wait a minute, Sweetie-kins. I just don’t know if that’s possible, Honeybunch.”
IV: “Daddy?? Daddy-kins? You WANT me to continue to be your special Sweetie-kins, your wonderful Honeybunch, right?”
DT: “Of course I do, my special little Princess!”
IV: “Well then, Daddy-muffin, I better get a West Wing office and top security clearance, like right NOW! I deserve it! I’m younger and prettier than Kellyanne! These foreign leaders don’t want to look at her melty-ass face, they want to look at someone beautiful. Like me!”
DT: “You know what, my special, special Dumpling? You have made a point!”
    IT: “How soon, Daddy-kins?”
    DT: “Tuesday”

  42. Ellis says:

This is it folks, the U.S. version of the Fall of the Roman Empire, when the rule ended with incestuous, licentious, fascist, corrupt lunatics. Byzantine, Chinese dynasty, Mongol, Ottoman, Gupta, Egyptian, all crashed and burned for one or more of the above causes. False power eventually makes everyone batty. Clearly.
