Val Kilmer reveals his obsession with Cate Blanchett in a series of tweets

The 23rd Annual Simply Shakespeare Benefit

Val Kilmer is apparently feeling a lot better these days, which is good news. The bad news is that as he grows stronger, his obsession with Cate Blanchett grows. I didn’t even realize that Val has been obsessed with Blanchett all this time, but he took to Twitter over the weekend to literally turn his Twitter page into a shrine to his beloved Australian actress. He started out with this:

It went on from there. He named her his “woman crush” and and followed it up with:

He then posted a photo of Cate (a closeup of her face) and wrote: “I mean even if she couldnt act you know what I mean?” And finally, I guess people were like “hey man, you’re sort of creepy, she’s a happily married woman with four kids,” so Val wrote this in a series of tweets:

I’ve never done said or written a single idea that wasn’t of the highest respect and admiration for #cateblanchett or any other great talent. She’s a friend of mine and I’ve met her husband thru the years and we’ve all gotten along just fine. Anyone who thinks I need to curb my Enthusiasm for a great rare artist doesn’t understand how difficult the job is and how we artist[s] count on the respect of our peers. She will back up every word I say n love that I say I love her. I would love an actor I didn’t even enjoy if he flew the world to talk about a role.

Well… I mean, sure. I’d like to hear Cate Blanchett personally say that she’s okay with Val Kilmer and his crush, but generally… I guess these tweets seems relatively harmless. Maybe? I’m not the best judge of this, I guess, because I think he’s mostly just telling an amusing story on Twitter and who even knows if he really did go to Australia to meet Cate? Oh, well.

Steal her away from that fraud of a husband, Val!!

    • INeedANap says:

Besides, who among us doesn’t have a little obsession with La Blanchett?

ETA: re-read his tweets. Nope, those are creepy, even if well-intentioned. Cringe-fest.

    • Honest B says:

Yes that “happily married” tweet was a bridge too far! Her hubby was stepping out with that 20 yr old wasn’t he!?

  2. Mia4s says:

Uhhhhh, Val? If this was supposed to be endearing or humourous? Massive swing and a miss. 😒

  3. OhDear says:

    Ew.

  4. astrid says:

on the surface, this is veering towards the creepy side

  5. jill says:

Can we talk about how much weight Val lost?! Last time I saw him, he was quite puffy and overweight. The hot’s kinda coming back, non?

    • Tata says:

Girl, no! Get those glasses checked, there is not enough weight loss or anti-aging cream to make that attractive. 1) He doesn’t believe in modern medicine.

      2) that is, I think, not the first time he has been borderline creepy-/ahole, I think he has an anger management problem?

in the words of comedian /actor Donald L Glover: “Why don’t women have crazy men stories? I don’t really hear them. And then I realized, it’s because if you got a crazy boyfriend, you’re going to die. Just something about men, the second they realize they’re crazy, it’s like ‘Time to kill everything I love.'”

  6. Skylark says:

Somewhere between slightly weird and funny. The bit re the shovel is definitely funny. Plus, there’s a nice, self-aware wryness in the tweets, particularly the first 2 re Cate’s husband!

  7. KB says:

I think it’s funny. She seems to have that kind of effect on a lot of people.

  8. HoustonGrl says:

    SUPER creepy.

  9. L84Tea says:

I get so grossed out just looking at him. I have now met 2 people who have separately seen him in person and told me disgusting stories about him. One, someone who sat next to him on a flight–Val was barefoot and literally picked his toenails the entire flight and left his pickings on the floor. And two, a friend of mine used to bartend in LA and referred to him as Nasty Val because she often saw him picking his nose and flicking his boogers across the room. Once I heard those stories, I have never been able to see him the same way. Ugh, shudder….

  10. Kloops says:

These types of stories are always tone and context dependent. I have no idea if VK is funny so it reads as creepy

  11. Sage says:

It’s harmless and funny. He tweeted something similar about Darryl Hannah and Jolie.

    Cate is lovely!

  12. Anitas says:

    He seems a bit unwell.

    • sorcerer's bone says:

i’d say the same listening to all the howard stern interviews.. but something about the group dynamic.

  13. sorcerer's bone says:

actors rely on imagination to be magnanimous. maybe he just wants a shout-out.

  14. derpshooter says:

Didn’t he have a serious health scare recently? Maybe his meds just make him really friendly and uninhibited. Like the time my friend had to get morphine after ripping her ACL – Kilmer’s tweets sound just like her.

  15. Ellie71 says:

The whole thing just reminds me of that creepy YouTube video Jim Carrey did about Emma Stone . So celebrities are as human as us and get crushes & obsessions . Only difference don’t think I am going to see many of them in court for stalking . Probably just in their next movie .

  16. S says:

It’s horrible when people say very nice things about other people

  17. Bubbles says:

I follow him on facebook and he always tells silly, true stories about celebrities. I find him to be really funny, totally gives off “dad joke” vibes. I wouldn’t read too much into this.
