Will Prince Harry propose to Meghan Markle on their one-year anniversary?

Commonwealth Day Service & Reception

Sebastian Shakespeare is one of the Daily Mail’s go-to gossip columnists, and he often has some good or interesting royal gossip. His latest column is a pretty obvious one though, especially considering Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have pretty much been living together for months. Meghan keeps a place in Toronto, and Harry has stayed with her. But most of the time, Meghan flies to London and she stays with Harry at Nottingham Cottage, the small two-bedroom home located on the grounds of Kensington Palace. While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have an extensively-renovated “apartment” at KP – an apartment which is a 22-bedroom mansion within a palace – Harry has had to make do for years with smaller cottages and apartments, as befitting his bachelor life. But he’s looking to upgrade, and he wants the upgrade to feel like home for Meghan too.

Prince Harry has been courting Meghan Markle since just last summer, but he’s already impatient to settle down with the actress. I can disclose that the 32-year-old Prince is to move into a new apartment at Kensington Palace, where he will live with Suits star Meghan, 35. Harry has been taking a very close interest in the renovations to the apartment. ‘He keeps popping round and asking when it will be ready,’ a source tells me. ‘He seems in a real hurry to move in with Meghan.’

The new apartment is said to be much closer to the huge wing that will be the permanent home for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge from September, when Prince George will start at the £17,000-per-year Thomas’s school in Battersea, South London. ‘It’s sweet that Harry and Meghan will be living next to William and Kate,’ adds the source. Kensington Palace spokesmen have refused to comment on suggestions that an engagement announcement for Harry could be imminent.

Meghan, who divorced her first husband after a two-year marriage, is said to be keen to have children with Harry. William and Kate have 22 rooms and two kitchens in their lavishly refurbished apartment. A palace spokesman declines to comment on Prince Harry’s new apartment, describing it as a ‘private matter’.

[From The Daily Mail]

Regardless of wherever this thing with Meghan is going, Harry was always going to need an upgraded home anyway. I think Harry got burned-by-association by William and Kate’s need to do extensive and costly renovations to their KP apartment, which they rarely use, and so Harry wasn’t given a bigger place because no one wanted to spend the money on renovating a place for him. As for Harry wanting a bigger place so that he and Meghan can live in it together… Richard Palmer at the Daily Express says not so fast!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are deeply in love but are not expected to make a decision about their future until they have been dating for at least a year. The fifth in line to the throne and his actress girlfriend are intensely happy, according to friends but those who know them well believe they will want to give their relationship more time before making any big decisions.

Harry, 32, and Meghan, 35, have spent much of the past few months together at his cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace, enjoying cosy meals together and the odd foray out into the West End. Since first getting to know her some of Harry’s friends have believed the relationship is destined to go all the way.

But a friend said: “They’ve been dating for just over seven months now. Give it until the relationship has been going for a year and then I think we’ll have a clearer idea.”

Despite reports that he and Meghan are due to move into a larger apartment in Kensington Palace, friends have insisted there is no work under way or earmarked.

[From The Daily Express]

The thing is that we were told that Meghan and Harry started last year around this time? That was the story last fall, that Meghan and Harry had been happening since Spring 2016. We’re in the midst of Spring 2017. Their one-year anniversary is happening soon. So will we get a proposal by June? That’s my timeline for Harry and Meg – I think he’ll propose in late May.

He better hurry before I do LOLOL

  2. Brittney B says:

Well, Lainey will probably know as soon as it happens! Maybe she’ll drop a hint before it’s official.

    • HappyMom says:

Considering she’s in Toronto and friends with the Mulroneys (who are BFF with Meghan), she’s pretty close lipped. Other than the blind about the shopping trip, she doesn’t ever say anything original. She usually just analyzes the US magazine coverage.

      • Maria says:

I didn’t know she was back in Toronto. I think they start filming in April which is next week.

      • HappyMom says:

@Marie-no I meant Lainey and Meghan both live in Toronto-and travel in the same circles-yet she really never gives any kind of inside scoop.

      • Emily says:

I think she was also the first one to talk about the second set of photos from the Jamaica trip.

      • HappyMom says:

@Emily-oh that’s true. But that’s not really any insight into their relationship, right? That could just be word on the paparazzi street that there was another set of pics.

      • Sarah754 says:

I can’t remember when I read it, but I do remember Lainey writing that people expect journalists/gossips to never keep secrets, when in reality, most of the work is in keeping the little secrets and waiting for a bigger one. It’s entirely possible that she is sitting on smaller tidbits in the hope of getting a big scoop.

  3. Sage says:

People need to let this relationship develope. Just relax and wait for the announcement. If it happens then it will happen if not then…

    • Kitty says:

      I agree!

    • Runcmc says:

Seriously. The proposal has been “imminent” since like November. Just let them date, dang.

    • Beth says:

Absolutely. I don’t know why people are so over excited about them. They’ve been together less than a year. Should probably let them get to know each other before or if they decide to walk down the aisle

    • Sarah says:

I read here and elsewhere last week that Meghan was getting introduced to the Queen on Mother’s Day. Wasn’t that last week? I then read she was back in Toronto, not meeting the Queen. So what was it? Does anyone know?
There are so many BS stories out there about this couple, who knows what to believe?? If the story about her being there to meet the Queen was BS, and the story about Kensington Palace renovations and an imminent engagement were BS, why does anyone believe anything about them? It’s either her PR or people just making up stuff at the papers.

  4. Sarah says:

This relationship sounds exhausting. I can’t even begin to imagine.
Once they do get married, it’ll all be about when they’ll have a baby

    • nic919 says:

Yes and that will be even worse because she is 35 and apparently that makes you barren instantaneously.

      • Harla Jodet says:

didn’t you know nic919 that one’s uterus falls out at the stroke of midnight on one’s 36th birthday?

  5. justsaying says:

“Abolishment of the British monarchy” would be better news.

  6. Megan says:

Is Harry’s new apartment not that big by normal standards or not that big by KP standards? I definitely think Harry got burned by the Cambridge spending.

  7. Adele Dazeem says:

Has anyone made the correlation that Harry’s PR game is better now than it was a year ago? When he was getting thrown under the bus by Cambridge PR, his “numbers” underplayed by the palace crew, the Bridget Jones prince etc., and now he’s looking like the better, harder working sibling? Any thought that this is because Meghan is helping him and knows how to use their profile for good? Whether you like her or not, you can’t deny she’s educated and savvy when it comes to her profile and reputation. (How many cable tv network supporting actresses do you know with a lifestyle blog?) just a thought.

    • nic919 says:

I think you are right on the PR front. Meghan would know the PR game quite well and I bet that cancelling the ski trip after William was ripped apart was something she recommended. Charles may be helping too only because Harry was appearing with Charles after the William fiasco, which is not something he does that much, at least not without William there too.

      • Sarah says:

The fact that England just had a terrorist attack and harry and Meghan frolicking on the slopes right after it might look really, really bad probably had something to do with the cancellation – if there ever was a trip at all. We have no idea!! It’s like Trumpland!! Who knows what is true and what isn’t true. But at least this is just about a couple who doesn’t affect anyone’s lives except he is a mooch off of the taxpayers.
Are there any pics of Meghan in England after the wedding? Was the museum date after that?

    • Erica says:

You know what I didn’t think about until you mentioned it .I noticed a piece in the DM about that girl William was hanging with on his skiing trip and it try to make it look like the girl knew Harry too but nobody was buying that story . Whoever is helping him with his PR is doing a good job in showing that Harry does take his duties seriously unlike the Cambridge’s.

  8. Lainey says:

The story first was that they met in may at launch of invictus games (even though she wasn’t in Canada) then it was about June which seems to be the new accepted timeline. On other words they have no idea. But her Instagram shows she was in London then and Richards story reads like a leak to me so I think it’s as close as we’ll ever get.
Shakespeare’s story isn’t true simply because there’s no empty space that harry could be working on. All are lived in or turned into office space. He’ll get a place when he does marry but it mightn’t even be on kp.

    • Tough Cookie says:

Are the apartments Diana and Charles used occupied (8 and 9 I think?) I remember reading that Willy and Waity had looked at those before deciding on 1A.

    • notasugarhere says:

It appears 8&9 were taken over as office space for W&K + Harry. I think LAK was the one who found the info buried in a report about costs associated with office renovations. When HRP were kicked out of 1A, they had to be put somewhere in KP other than 1A or 8&9.

From what I can tell, the new building (that hasn’t broken ground yet) will be for Historic Royal Palaces and Orangery staff. Until those staff move into a building that doesn’t exist yet, I’m not sure other big moves will be made. There may be other space within KP that is available for Harry now, but seemingly not any of the big spaces currently occupied by the Kents, Gloucesters, Michael of Kent, or 8&9 offices, etc.

    • Can'tRecall says:

Actually the renovation/moving in story started with Camilla Tominey (She broke the relationship story) and YES there have been renovations requested. They are adding an underground floor to the Dolittle’s apt and staff will move there freeing up Diana’s old apt.

I certainly believe Tominey and Shakespeare’s story backs her up .

      • notasugarhere says:

The addition isn’t going under 1A, it is going under the Orangery and next to it.

There is already a bi-level (half above, half below) basement under Apartment 1A, you can see it in the pictures. There is an entirely new building being built (2 basement levels under the Orangery, 1 floor above ground next to it), that is for Historic Royal Palaces and Orangery things. The building request itself came from HRP for an HRP-related extension to the Orangery.

From the Telegraph article. ‘The planning application submitted by HRP to Kensington and Chelsea Council last week says: “The addition of a basement storey is required to allow for the accommodation of administration which must necessarily be moved out of rooms leased from the Royal Household in Kensington Palace.”’ The “administration” mentioned here is Historic Royal Palaces staff, not Royal Household staff.

When W&K kicked the HRP staff out of 1A, they had to go somewhere. They moved into other empty space at KP, and now the Royal Household wants that space back for staff.

“The 50m-long basement will be needed to free up the palace suites which HRP currently uses to make way for members of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry’s own staff.”

The staff mentioned here may be either personal household or office staff for the royals, we don’t know. It may be that W&K will then move any household staff out of their existing 1A space and into other space at KP, once the HRP and Orangery building is built. No where does it say they’re moving Royal Household office staff out of 8&9. They might eventually, but none of that is clear.

  9. me says:

Seriously enough. They don’t HAVE to get married you know? She’s been married once before and perhaps might not want to any time soon again. Let them be.

  10. Maria says:

I thought they met in June when he was here for the Invictus games. My guess is they will wait until after Pippa’s wedding out of consideration, not that they give a s…about the Middletons, but Harry strikes me as a considerate lad, and he wouldn’t want to steal her thunder.
Poor them if they have to live next to the Cambridges. They will have to listen to all the whining about how much they do, and the lack of appreciation for their hard work.

  11. Ankhel says:

    … no.

  12. D says:

The comments on DM are brutal, they really hate Meghan with a passion.

    • notasugarhere says:

A handful of negative nelly tumblr fangirls hate her, and they’re all over the DM. I think most people in the real world don’t care or think she’s fine.

    • TyrantDestroyed says:

They are so crazily invested in the relationship that is scary-funny at the same time. What a bunch of wackos are the readers.

    • Fluff says:

I don’t think it is just Tumblr fangirls, alas, but regular DM trolls, which is worse. DM race baits in the worst way.

  13. Andrea says:

These two have got to be close and sticking together, the vitriol and hate from the beginning would have killed a lot of relationship, let alone a long distance one. They are in their 30s I do believe they know where it’s going, it’s just not any of our business. Harry is glowing ever since he came back from vacation, I think they came to an agreement, that’s what my gut says the first time I say him post vacation

  14. Jayna says:

I can’t imagine moving to another country and upon marriage being stuck in the British Royal Family and all that entails for the rest of my life. While Harry’s life is not as constrained as William’s, who one day will be king, it would still be rigid and stifling to me. Not a dream scenario for someone who lived a free life. If they marry but one day divorce, can she take any children they have back to America?

    • Lady D says:

Or can they banish her and keep the children? Seriously though, I doubt it. I learned about an agreement, can’t remember what it’s called, that prevented Kelly Rutherford from keeping her children full time in the States. This agreement/law moves children all over the world to the custodial parent.

      • notasugarhere says:

Things are different when those children are in line to a royal throne. Monarch ends up with custody of certain kids iirc.

    • notasugarhere says:

Maxima, Mary, Alex-and-Marie, etc. all managed it. While the BRF has protocol like any other royal family, it isn’t a horror show. It is a very cushy, protected life where you get to do what you want most of the time in exchange for working less than 20 hpw for the country. I think she’d be fine in the role, embrace it, and not be squashed by it.

      • HappyMom says:

I’m with you. I think she’s up for it-she already does charity work, she was an international relations major, she’s clearly been able to move her life from LA, to Chicago for school, and now Toronto. Why not London?

      • Sarah says:

I watched Diana and then Fergie get crushed by the royal life.

Now I’m watching Kate become a nervous disaster and she is disappearing right in front of our eyes.

Why do you think William, and now Harry, both seem to have had a great deal of trouble finding any woman who wanted the royal life? Or at least any suitable women who knew what that life would entail?

I don’t think you can compare the attention the other royals in Europe get compared to what Kate/Wills, Harry/whomever, Diana/Charles, Andrew/Fergie get and got. Add in the racism, add in she isn’t British, I can’t even imagine the attention and criticism she will get. Harry can send all of the sternly worded letters he wants, the media in England can and probably will destroy her. I wouldn’t wish being married into that family on my worst enemy and I certainly wouldn’t wish it on a vibrant, intelligent woman.

      • notasugarhere says:

Plenty of non-Brits have married in, even a divorced Catholic. She doesn’t have to be British, she’d need to spend time publicly enjoying learning about her new country and being grateful for the opportunity to serve.

Neither Kate Middleton nor William appear suited to the royal life, nor do they put in the effort to do the job well. If the two of them are unhappy, IMO, it is related to their compromise marriage and them expending so much energy avoiding work instead of working. I don’t see someone with an eating disorder as you apparently do. I see someone who works out a lot and stays under her natural weight for vanity. Didn’t you see the muscles she was showing off in her sleeveless outfit last week? Slim but strong, not wasting away.

Both Diana and Fergie already had boatloads of emotional issues before marrying in. They were also 19 and 26, hadn’t supported themselves, and had little education. Markle is 35, supports herself, attended college, knows how to be in the public eye. Sophie has done well, minus the deliberate sting operation, and if she married in Markle would do fine as she does.

  15. Bonobochick says:

If they’re happy and in love, then they should go for it (with TQ’s approval, hopefully). At the end of the day, what her haters & “he’s mine” stans want or believe doesn’t matter.

  16. Talie says:

When you’re older, the usual rules are thrown out the window. These two are old enough to know whether marriage is a good idea or not, especially her since she’s done it already. I think an engagement could happen at summer’s end with maybe a wedding in early spring next year.

  17. V.B. says:

Stop trying to make the proposal happen.

    • Can'tRecall says:

No one here can make a proposal happen any more than tumblr trolls can prevent them loving one another or getting married.

  18. Andrea says:

I don’t think an engagement would happen before she finished suits for the season. They would have to secure her house and that’s expensive and cause too much controversy. I like them together, I think she would make a fantastic partner. Harry’s lucky

  19. Jess says:

Love these stories – Prince Harry stories are my happy place these days. And I love her boots!

  20. Citresse says:

If Suits was such a great show then most people would know it. I never heard of that show. Is it on CTV? I’ll check my local library and see if it’s available on dvd.

    • Maria says:

Citresse, it’s on Netflix if you get it.

      • Citresse says:

No Netflix but I did find it on dvd at library I think….If it’s about a law firm that hooks up with someone who doesn’t have a law degree. It appears low budget but I’ll give it a try.
Markle’s history and close ties with the Mulroneys is more interesting beginning with the first question: How on Earth did that happen?

  21. PrincessK says:

I love the fact that Meghan is moving around London without the paps getting pictures, I bet herself and Harry are happy to outwit everyone. I would be very surprised if they are not engaged before the beginning of summer. This would allow Meghan to experience some high profile Royal events like Ascot, and she will be able to attend Wimbledon, Trooping of the Colour and other stuff. I believe that a great deal is being sorted out behind the scenes. Also there a have been zero pictures or info about her parents since her mother visited her in Toronto, which I think is a sign that preparations are afoot. I think they will marry this year in September.
