Jessica Chastain in McQueen at the ‘Zookeeper’s’ premiere: stunning or flawed?

Premiere Of Focus Features' "The Zookeeper's Wife"

I love Jessica Chastain but I usually hate her style. She’s an attractive woman, but she usually gets at least one thing totally wrong on any given red carpet, whether it’s her hair, her makeup, her shoes or even her dress. These are photos of Chastain at last night’s LA premiere of The Zookeeper’s Wife, the historical WWII drama (which I honestly thought came out last year). The film is based on the successful non-fiction book of the same name, about a zookeeper and his wife in Warsaw, Poland during World War II. They used their zoo to hide hundreds of Polish Jews when the Nazis came. It looks like a heartbreaking movie.

For the premiere, Chastain wore this Alexander McQueen dress which… because of the black background and the black blocking on the dress, I actually thought she was wearing a knee-length cocktail dress over a pair of black dress pants. I was excited because Chastain rarely takes those kind of style-chances. But it’s not that. It’s just a dress. I don’t really like the black border – this would have been beautiful without it. The green fabric is gorgeous.

So what did Chastain get wrong here? Honestly, in full length photos, she’s totally fine. Her hair is good, the dress is fine-to-pretty, the shoes aren’t offensive. But in closeups, you can see the one bad thing: her makeup! Specifically, her pink eye makeup. Chastain is a pale redhead!!! DO NOT PUT PINK EYESHADOW ON HER. Even if she wasn’t a pale redhead, you still shouldn’t put pink eyeshadow on her or anyone else. Throw out your pink eyeshadow! It makes you look sickly.

Also: Jessica just turned 40 years old a few days ago. Happy birthday, girl!

Not fashion related but, in my newfound love for James McAvoy (I don’t know what I was doing with my life before that) I have come across a little movie called The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, starring James and Miss Chastain here. Looks really good, definitely seeing it tonight.

its HEAVY on drama and very slow moving…at least thats what i thought

I loved it, but I like slow movies in general. You should watch Him and Her, not the Them version. (And welcome to McAvoyeur-land!! :D)

Jessica is gorgeous (AND 40!! HOW??!) but the dress is the wrong cut for the wrong fabric.

I love JC, also, but I loathe those cut to the waist or pubes fashions. Not quite as much as I loathe trump, but close.

Meh! Her makeup is super pretty all I see here is a Drab dress generally speaking it isnt doing a thing for her

You can pry my various pink eyeshadows (from pale petal to electric hot) from my cold dead fingers.

I really like this on her. I feel that usually the fit of her dresses are of, but this looks perfect.

The more I looked at it the more I liked it. I think because she is standing against a dark wall it doesn’t show off the dress. But I’ll be glad when the deep V neckline has run its course.

    OMG she is SO pretty!!!

I like her. I just saw Miss Sloane. She is good. Great actor actually. Despite the film being a glamourised and sexualised portrail of very unsexy business. And she is pretty. She sure seems like a down to earth and hard working lady. And well loked in the business. That leads me to think that she should not have a problem finding a new and much better stylists.

  8. Sage says:

She’s gorgeous. Cate Blanchett and Jessica can do no wrong.

I think she almost always looks beautiful. I love her clothes and makeup in this. On my monitor, her makeup looks peachy glittery not pink, which is super in. Love her!

Make up looks lovely. Would have liked it more with her hair romantically tousled against her face. I didn’t realise she’s 40, she could pass for between 29 to 32 very easily in my eyes. Beautiful.

  11. Mocha says:

She’s always so beautiful. I find her fashion choices interesting even when they’re not on point, which for me they usually are. Talented lady.

Oh so not related to Zoolander.

Seriously this movie sounds great but they should change the title.

Co-signing the awful makeup. She’s so darn gorgeous though. I saw her on The Graham Norton Show a while back and I could not stop staring at her. Just stunning.

  14. Anare says:

The dress is beautiful but the shoulder straps are too wide. The outer black border doesn’t help there. Not a huge fan of that eye shadow. She is so pretty though.
