Trump voter claims Sen. Chuck Schumer was really ‘rude’ to her, poor baby

Page Six is part of the New York Post, which is part of Rupert Murdoch’s conservative media empire. Page Six loves to talk sh-t about certain people in the Democratic party or people in the more liberal/mainstream media. A favorite target is “anyone on NBC” and specifically Brian Williams. Page Six and the NY Post have also done a lot of reporting on Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin, most of which I believe. Anyway, that’s your background on how Page Six has reported this story on their New York senator, Chuck Schumer. Schumer is currently the Senate Minority Leader and Emperor Bigly really wants to bully and attack Schumer all the time. As it turns out, Senator Schumer can give as good as he gets.

Sen. Chuck Schumer caused a scene at a Manhattan restaurant when he began yelling at a wealthy and well-connected Donald Trump supporter that the POTUS is “a liar.” Schumer, the top Senate Democrat, lost his cool on Sunday night at Upper East Side restaurant Sette Mezzo, according to witnesses.

He was dining with friends when he encountered Joseph A. Califano Jr. — the former US secretary of health, education and welfare under President Jimmy Carter and domestic policy adviser to President Lyndon B. Johnson — and his wife, Hilary, who were having a quiet dinner. Onlookers said Schumer was incensed that Hilary — the daughter of William S. Paley, the founder and chairman of CBS — had voted for Trump, even though her husband, Joseph, is a well-known Democrat.

One witness said of the restaurant rant, “They are a highly respected couple, and Schumer made a scene, yelling, ‘She voted for Trump!’ The Califanos left the restaurant, but Schumer followed them outside.” On the sidewalk, Schumer carried on with his fantastical filibuster: “ ‘How could you vote for Trump? He’s a liar!’ He kept repeating, ‘He’s a liar!’ ”

Hilary confirmed the confrontation, telling Page Six, “Sen. Schumer was really rude . . . He’s our senator, and I don’t really like him. Yes, 1 voted for Trump. Schumer joined us outside and he told me Trump was a liar. I should have told him that Hillary Clinton was a liar, but I was so surprised I didn’t say anything.”

Joseph didn’t return calls for comment. Another diner insists that Califano and his wife approached Sen. Schumer’s table. The diner said, “It was a pleasant conversation. Joe said the senator was doing a good job on health care. Joe joked that Hilary voted for Trump. The conversation continued outside because everyone left at the same time.”

A spokesman for Schumer said, “[He] and his wife ate at the café on Sunday, engaging in unremarkable conversation with patrons who approached their table. There were no heated exchanges with ‎anyone.”

[From Page Six]

My guess is that the incident was probably a little bit of everything. I doubt Senator Schumer – who does not seem to have a short fuse – would suddenly start screaming at some acquaintance just for being a Trump voter. I think it’s far more likely that the Califanos came over to Senator Schumer’s table and they were all chatting together, and Mr. Califano told the senator that his wife voted for Trump. Sen. Schumer probably mocked her for that and if he did… um, I don’t blame him. If Hilary Califano is confirming Schumer’s “rudeness,” then that is her right. But honestly, if you voted for Trump, don’t you say one g–damn thing about how “rude” people are. You were the one who chose to vote for the bully-in-chief, a serial sexual assailant and a devastatingly evil moron who is destroying the country.

So Trump supporters can attack anyone but if someone says something back, they play victim? And yet they call us snowflakes….

    • Krakken says:

And It makes the papers no less. That unfortunately offended rich white lady. I hope Someone offer her a tissue for her tears and humiliation. Khizr Khan and 10000 refugees from conflict zones feel your pain white lady.

    • Zip says:

This is what right-wingers do in other countries as well. Here in Germany (for example) they love to throw out insults and defend that by screaming “freedom of speech!” (sorry, but insults and incitement are not covered by that) but immediately start crying, playing the suppressed victim and try to shut up (!) anyone who does not agree with them.

      • Cara says:

Sorry Zip but insults are fully covered under freedom of speech. There was no incitement in this example so I’m not sure how that is relevant. Inciting violence is not allowed, saying things leftists don’t agree with is totally allowed.

      • Persephone says:

@ Cara, I’m not sure which country you are in but freedom of speech laws are different around the world.

      • lyla says:

@cara, i think zip is speaking of freedom of speech laws in Germany, not the US

  2. t.fanty says:

Schumer has a loud voice and a bitchy, NY sense of humor. This sounds like a storm in a teacup.

    • antipodean says:

On point as always, t.fanty. These people (sensitive Rethug types I mean), need a very large dose of cutting edge wit. On another note, how come we don’t see much of you these days? I used to look forward to your daily salty bon mots! Lately, not so much, we need you to help keep us sane.

  3. RussianBlueCat says:

The thing that jumped out at me in this story, is that a woman who happened to be named Hilary who voted for Trump was arguing and yelling with a Democratic senator. Not saying it did or did not happen, but this seemed a little too perfect. Who was the witness, Steve Bannon in a trench coat and sunglasses?

    • Betsy says:

Steve Bannon in a trench coat wearing the glasses with the eyebrows and the fake nose. That guy looks like Rudolph.

    • Sarah says:

Bannon, with a huge alcoholic drink in his hand. Headed straight for his liver, hopefully.

  4. Patricia says:

I love that she said “I should have told him Hillary Clinton was a liar” hahahah like ” I should have pulled out the nonsensical rebuttal that all us Trump supporters use when we can’t find any words to actually defend the man”. Oh what a missed opportunity to not address what a horror the man you voted for is.

  5. INeedANap says:

Honestly even if he had randomly started yelling at her, it would be great to see a Democrat in the Senate have a bit of fire and conviction for once.

  6. Deb says:

The trumpanzees are really really getting scared of #Russiagate so expect a lot more of this BS

  7. PHD gossip says:

    Sounds like he was drunk.

  8. slowsnow says:

I don’t know this man but I love him.
Picturing this scene healed some stuff today.

  9. QQ says:

At least in my Job it keeps happening that the Trumpers keep coming and just asking me “what I Think about..” I decline to engage in any way cause, F*ck em Im busy doing labor elsewhere *side eye* and they go off by themselves on themselves like wind up toys til they are done

  10. Jenns says:

All Trump voters deserve to be yelled at.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

I hope little Ivanka and the other Trumps have to deal with people impolitely speaking unpleasant truths such as “Your father is ruining this country!” every time they go out in public for the rest of Trump’s presidency, whether they’re on a plane, at a restaurant, at a store, at an event, wherever . (Can you believe that some of the Trump supporters and their sympathizers call that statement ‘spewing hate’ and even tried to falsely equate it with the hate speech/ racial slurs on here?)

  11. lisa says:

better to be yelled at then have your health care or civil rights stolen

  12. SusanneToo says:

Is this Hilary a longtime Califano wife or a newer, younger, dumber replacement? Because I don’t understand how someone who’s been around politics since the 60’s could possibly think trump was a viable alternative.

  13. aang says:

Ha! I love Schumer. When Hillary was still our congresswoman my brother would needle Schumer whenever he saw him around at an event by asking “where’s Hillary?”. Schumer did not see the humor in being eclipsed by the jr. Senator. He’d usually reply with some variation of “you’re stuck with me”.

  14. Veronica says:

Eh, as much as I’m all for behaving with decorously, I’m beyond patience with people who can trot out Hillary as an excuse at this point. “They’re both liars” is not an adequate rebuttal when one of them was quite literally utilizing totalitarian rhetorical tactics to stir up disenfranchised segments of the population. You voted for Trump for one of three reasons, 1.) You legitimately supported everything he stands for, 2.) you were frustrated with the state of Washington and wanted to “stir things up” in a way that didn’t actually require you to be politically active in a meaningful way, 3.) you’re an idiot who thought his madness wouldn’t touch your privileged world.

    • Betsy says:

You should put that on a billboard. Trumpies are really having difficulty figuring it why no one likes the idiot they voted for.

  15. minx says:

I don’t believe Hilary Califano said anything like that to The Post. Her father was William Paley, who had a famously short fuse. Her mother was Dorothy Hirschon, a Manhattan philanthropist, socialite and staunch Democrat. She married Democrat Joseph Califano, who worked in the Carter administration. Hilary has been a fixture on the N Y and DC society scene for decades; she has socialized and done charity work with both Democrats and Republicans. Her first husband, stockbroker Jeff Byers, killed himself by jumping from the family’s apartment window in 1977. My point is that she is a sophisticated woman (albeit a Republican) and I don’t believe she and Schumer got into any such scene. Sound like they were joking and the Post fabricated the whole story.

  16. kimbers says:

Dontknow about thos story. Would have to witness myself

  17. Beth says:

Wish I was there with him. I would’ve joined in with yelling at her and watch her melt like a snowflake in the hot sun

  18. holly hobby says:

One of my co-workers has a friend who voted for Orangino. However she’s married to an illegal immigrant (lapsed student visa. Married years ago but never corrected the status. The sheet idiocy of that should be discussed another time). Anyway, when he went into INS to check in, they arrested him and deported him (he’s European descent).

That lady voted for Orangino and thought he’d just get rid of the “bad illegals.” I’m sorry but the law doesn’t work that way. If you’re here illegally and they started this campaign, honestly every single illegal would be deported. I bet she regrets her vote now. I don’t feel sorry for her and her ilk.

    • Beth says:

Unfortunately, lots of Trump supporters didn’t think he would really do that if they weren’t criminals, so they would have no problem and would get to stay. They also believed he would stop tweeting, acting like a brat, and stop his offensive comments.
I also don’t feel sorry for people who carelessly screwed themselves and the country up by not paying attention to what was so obvious. Trump voters deserve no pity

      • Tiffany says:

@Beth. The undocumented/illegal immigrants were allowed to stay under the Obama Administration. He said that he was going after one that committed federal crimes or multiple misdemeanors ( of course the GOP spun it to something ridiculous) and that there was no money to go after law abiding ones who have been here for decades and have set up homes, life and family. In fact, he said it was cruel.

  19. Otaku Fairy says:

” if you voted for Trump, don’t you say one g–damn thing about how “rude” people are. You were the one who chose to vote for the bully-in-chief, a serial sexual assailant and a devastatingly evil moron who is destroying the country.” This. This is exactly what any Trump supporter who dares to open their mouths about the Trumps or his voters being ‘victims’ of liberal rudeness need to be reminded of every time.
If this story isn’t totally fabricated to begin with, I can easily believe that Schumer took on a mocking/condescending tone when calling out this idiot Hilary for the decision she made, but I’m not sure if there was screaming involved. It’s probably just another case of someone who’s pro-Trump reaching for victimhood status that isn’t there just because someone dared to criticize them.
