President Obama is headed to a private island to chill out & write his memoir

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama at the Presidential Inaugural Ball
For the past few months, I haven’t allowed myself to think about the Obamas. It still hurts too much to really contemplate how far we’ve fallen since Emperor Bigly took the oath of office. The Obamas do seem okay, though. I imagine Michelle Obama cried a bit the first few days, but she and Barry went to Richard Branson’s Necker Island for a relaxing vacation in those first weeks of the Bigly Administration. Then they came back to their new home in DC, and they’ve been in New York a few times too. When President Obama walked out of an office building in New York last month, hundreds of people were waiting for him and they all applauded for him, because g–damn you guys, everyone misses him so much.

So what’s next for Barry, Michelle and even Hillary and Bill? Hillary and Bill seem to just be chilling out in New York, going to see Broadway shows, having lunch with friends and going for hikes. I would assume Hillary is also hanging out with her grandbabies. As for Barry, he’s planning a long vacation half-way around the world. He’s going to chill out on a private island in the South Pacific and write his memoir. God, take me with you, Barry.

With his multimillion-dollar book deal in hand, Barack Obama has found his ultimate hideaway to pen his White House memoir: Tetiaroa, a private island in the South Pacific once owned by Marlon Brando. While Tahiti, Bora Bora, and the other islands in the archipelago—collectively known as the Society Islands—are imposing volcanic towers cloaked in a heavy armor of lush tropical canopy, Tetiaroa is low-slung and sandy, a small necklace of coral islets strung together around a quiet lagoon.

A short 20-minute flight on a puddle-jumper links Papeete’s international airport (on Tahiti) to Tetiaroa’s private runway, where miles of navy blue waves suddenly give way to the island’s palm-studded halo and minty green shallows. Something funny happens as you begin your descent—you giggle, marveling at nature’s ability to create the most idyllic island enclave from an unimaginably vibrant swatch book of colors. Marlon Brando surely giggled when he first laid eyes on the place while scouting locations to shoot Mutiny on the Bounty. Seven years later he purchased the island for around $200,000, which had long been considered a sacred site for locals—in fact, the ruling family in Tahiti often used Tetiaroa for holiday retreats.

Barack Obama first visited in March of this year and presumably giggled too. It’s easy to understand why such an intense spell is cast on all who visit, especially since the island swapped its Crusoe vibe for an ultra-luxe retreat (the eponymously named The Brando in 2014).

[From The Daily Beast]

Apparently, Michelle isn’t going to join him, which answers some questions I had about who is staying around DC during Sasha’s last years of high school. Michelle is sticking around DC for Sasha, and Barry is off to the South Pacific for some rest, relaxation and writing. Of course, it will also be nice for him to get out of town as Emperor Bigly tries to destroy everything that Obama ever accomplished. But Barry probably doesn’t want to watch the impeachment hearings either.

I hope he’ll sell a lot of copies of his memoir – it would annoy Drumpf.

  2. Green Is Good says:

I’ll read the hell out of this.

  3. QQ says:

YES CHOCOLATE CINNAMON KING!, YOU DESERVE!! I LOVE how the Obamas are working on their tans and got sexy steezy clothes now that they don’t have to pander to Middle America

Meantime a Walking talking crossbreed of Rotting pumpkin and Cheeto puff factory Malfunction had to keep the aging model he was gonna trade in this year cause he has to appease those same folks LOLOLOL Oh Well

  4. Nicole says:

He deserves it. He can relax on an island while the US implodes from stupidity. Its not like he didn’t try and warn us

    • original kay says:

If anyone ever deserved anything, it’s him. What he has put up with for his entire career, least of all the last 8 years, and still maintains grace and dignity, he deserves the peace and tranquility of a private island.

  5. Neelyo says:

There were shots of them on their way to lunch with Bono in NYC looking relaxed and gorgeous. The accompanying story had people again standing around and cheering for them.

After Trump is run out of office on a rail, he’ll never have that sort of adoration and that must eat at his bitter empty soul daily. And that makes me happy.

  6. Bettyrose says:

I remember reading his first memoir when he’d just been elected Senator. I didn’t live in Illinois but a bookstore had it on their recommendations shelf.

  7. HappyMom says:

Take us with you! Don’t leave us with Trump!

  8. vava says:

Good for you, Barack! Looking forward to reading your book!

  9. Shambles says:

I miss you. Come home. It’s not the same without you. I need you. Babe…

  10. Kitten says:

Every time I see a pic of Barack smiling, I get an overwhelmingly sad feeling in the pit of my stomach. 🙁

I’m so happy that he and Michelle and his girls will get some time to chill, just sad that we went from a POTUS and a First Family that we could proud of to our current nightmare. Sigh.

    • cindy says:

Me too. Seeing his face lately makes me want to cry.

    • Nancy says:

Damn Kitten, me too. He was like a safety net. His face radiates calm. How could we go from that to this. Mind boggling.

    • Giddy says:

I know what you mean. It was lovely to be so proud of our POTUS, and I miss their whole family. But I’m glad he is having such a great post-Presidency. His Secret Service team has such a great assignment.

    • PunkyMomma says:

I call it grief, like after a serious relationship. A huge hole is in my heart since President Obama left town. But I will always wish him and his family everything good in life. He made me proud to be an American again. I’m one of those people who wrote a note of apology to Chancellor Merkel.

      • Lady D says:

Are the Obama’s breaking up? Serious question. He’s not going to bang out a book in a few days or even a few weeks, and he went a long way to do it. Am I the only one that finds this separation somewhat alarming?

      • Who ARE These People? says:

Let’s hope not! Writers need privacy, and he’d probably be a pain in the ass to Michelle if he were at home yet mentally checked out. I also think he’s staying way out of the way during these first few critical months of the Trump regime – a wise strategy.

  11. Tila says:

If I could vote for this man to be the prime minister of UK…

  12. Lena says:

I love how he’s looking all “Mr. Steal Yo Girl” these days. *sob* I miss you Barry!

  13. Who ARE These People? says:

His memoir, “Dreams of [from?] My Father” is really good — thoughtful, insightful, informative. He’s a good writer and I’ll read his book. (I skipped the political book – The Audacity of Hope.)

I’m sure this private island has broadband and he’ll check in now and then.

And yes, what a contrast, to go from a world of relative sanity and dignity to a world lead by Batman villains. It’s always night in Gotham City now.

  14. Beth says:

I wish I could go with him! He beyond deserves this time to do whatever he wants. Can’t wait to read it

  15. Bluesky says:

WHY LORD, WHY??????? I miss them so much!!!!! (In a fetal position under my desk eating chocolate)

  16. robyn says:

A reasonable rational exquisite intelligence behind that million dollar smile. Miss Obama in these troubled times but glad he is staying out of it for now.

  17. Darkladi says:

I thought he was hiding in Africa trying to avoid arrest for treason for trying to destroy Trumpty’s presidency.

  18. homeslice says:

His book and Michelle’s are going to be HUGE! and I can’t wait for the book tours!!

  19. Cannibell says:

Sounds like the prettiest writer jail ever! (My novelist girlfriend always refers to it that way when she goes off to work on her latest creation.) Go forth and bring back the words, Mr. President. Safe travels to you and thanks to you and your family for everything.

  20. nikzilla37 says:

Jumping on this Obama love! Miss them!

    • G says:

Seriously. I just adore them so much. So glad they are finally getting to relax, even though I bet they can’t stop worrying about Trump.

  21. greenteaandrosehip says:

I’ll bet Michelle can’t WAIT to watch the impeachment hearings. With popcorn!!

    • Betsy says:

Oh my god, I would pay $50 to watch her watching impeachment hearings.

Come back Obamas. We miss you!

  22. SolitaryAngel says:

OMG I miss them too! I am under my bed with my phone surrounded by non-perishables. Can you believe it’s been such a short time from the graceful, thoughtful Obama to what we are facing now? *sob* I, too, am grieving for the Obamas, my country, and the world.

Maybe he should write quickly–who knows what America will be like when he returns. Books without pictures may be banned/burned. I wish I was joking…

  23. IlsaLund says:

I hope his book is a true expose of all the BS he had to endure while President. I pray he doesn’t hold back and tells the unvarnished truth.

I wish the Obamas well and thank them for their service. They did their best to help us.

  24. Leslie says:

I’m sure that he’d like to give out a big middle finger to those who gave him such a hard time while in office and tried to block him every step of the way.

Still think that Key & Peele’s Obama Anger Translator is spot on. He was so calm, cool and collected on the outside. I’m sure that many times was so angry on the inside but he never lost his cool.

He’s so “I haven’t got time for that” now. Not my circus, not my monkeys. Not my problem.

    • corporate stepsister says:

Thank God he is out of that mess and after the abuse his wife took, he should be nonchalant. He owes no one anything and frankly I believe there comes a point when the Republicans are going to have to face facts that no one runs for President (who can actually accomplish something ) is because of the relentless factions that swamp the House of Congress.

  25. tweetime says:

Just out of curiosity – do former presidents receive Secret Service protection for the rest of their lives? Does anybody know?

    • SolitaryAngel says:

      Tweetime, yes they do.

    • corporate stepsister says:

Yeah, so are the spouses; mainly because they are privy to so many secrets (so are the spouses via pillow-talk) and it would be a horrific disaster if any former president were abducted.

      • Annetommy says:

That won’t be necessary after Trump. Melania is so distant and uninterested that she doesn’t know anything interesting, and trump will have told the Russians everything anyway,

  26. corporate stepsister says:

He doesn’t owe anyone and explanation how he lives his life now. He’s no longer President, he’s no longer head of this country (or responsible for it) and frankly I do not think anyone has any business thinking that he should live his life the way they think he should.

    • mary mary says:

Corporate stepsister: Obama and family spent eight years of their family life being in the public eye. They are once again private citizens and their privacy should and hopefully will be respected.

I believe many Obama voters are still kind of in shock at the transition, from a Presidential President, to a bumbling, incoherent, former businessman who found himself in the White House.

Wish Obama and his family well.

I am also looking forward to both Obama’s memoirs.

      • corporate stepsister says:

The very essence of my earlier post :).

I’m glad Obama is free from all that BS and frankly at the very least, no one can blame him for how things go from out here.

      • mary mary says:

Corporate stepsister: Obama and Michelle gave their best. No one could ask more of a First family.

The blame game begins and ends with Trump and Republicans. The psychological term is projection of their own misdeeds and blaming it on everyone but themselves.

The current administration, has not set a presidential tone but lowered the bar with an unprecedented amount of lying and blaming others, that is both insulting and infuriating to all of us who know better.

I have never seen so much disrespect for our former president, his family and for the American people as displayed by the current president.

        Signed,

        I sometimes pretend I am Canadian 🙂

  27. Snowflake says:

I would definitely buy that book

  28. Nibbi says:

God, god, god, god i miss him.

    i miss THEM.

good for him, though, to get away and do his thing for a while. few people on the planet earth deserve some quiet time in a tropical paradise more than he does. i can’t even imagine what it must be like for him to watch trump attempting to dismantle, piece by piece, his legacy and outright attack the good of causes he defended (god, yesterday’s attacks on obama’s environmental efforts, participation in the COP21 agreements, etc., so infuriating, disgusting, and sad…), not to mention outright impugning him with the claims about wiretapping and all that ridiculous, un-evidenced shit. after the birther thing, obama must just shake his head.

also, i feel like it’s sort of appropriate that he absent himself for a while- not give the deplorables the slightest molecule of ability to ridiculously claim that he’s leading a counterinsurgency or anything. they love painting him as a bogeyman and i’m glad he takes that away from them.

and i feel kinda like crying too when i read too much about him or look too long at his fantastic smile. the contrast of his decency and charm with what we’ve got now is just so awful.
