‘Spider-man: Homecoming’ has a second trailer: are you into this at all?

Sony Presentation at Cinema Con 2017

Here are some photos of Tom Holland at Sony’s presentation at CinemaCon yesterday. Holland is the new Spider-man, because I guess if we don’t recast the Spider-man role every three years, a kitten cries. This time, Spider-man is part of The Avengers though, and everyone’s hoping that Robert Downey Jr.’s extended cameo/supporting role in Spider-man: Homecoming will bring a new era to the Spider-Man franchise. When the first trailer was released, I basically just felt like… do we really need another g–damn origin story for Spider-Man? No. We do not. Thankfully, the second trailer was released and it seems like they’re doing a better twist on the origin story. Plus, this is the first big look at Michael Keaton’s villain, Vulture.

It looks okay. What do you expect me to say? This wasn’t made me for me. This was made for 13-year-old boys who identify with Peter Parker, his awkwardness, his try-hard, his “I wanna be in the Avengers, pretty please!!” Because I guess those boys don’t get enough films aimed at them, right? In any case, Holland seems to be doing okay work at Peter/Spidey, and RDJ is doing his thing, whatever. It sort of feels like RDJ – or possibly the Tony Stark character – is just phoning it in at this point. Keaton’s selling it though. Keaton seems to know that he’s supposed to be campy. Oh, and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May… that’s still a really strange casting choice.

    Looks boring.

  2. PIa says:

Nope! I grew up with the 90s Spiderman cartoons which were great…but also looked at Peter Parker’s life as an adult in college.

I am a bit over the high school iteration/origins of Parker.

  3. Bethy says:

Normally I am NOT a Spiderman fan. He’s too whiney in the comics for me, but second trailer has peaked my interest. Michael Keaton is bringing it as Vulture.

  4. Sarah says:

    Meh, I’m not impressed.

  5. Jenny says:

Probably won’t see it in the theater until the hype dies down, if I don’t, I’ll wait until it’s on Redbox.
Also I know SpiderMan isn’t British, but what if Tom kept his accent?
    Love Marisa Tomei

  6. detritus says:

sweet. Another movies about a poor man being a nerd and therefore no one recognises his coolness potential.

does this story resonate with anyone other than 20 something guys?
And do we need another retelling of this exact story? If they must make a movie based on an already written fantasy story, can someone make Alanna the Song of Lioness instead? Or Anita Blake (early books only pls)? The Night Angel trilogy, or the Name of the Wind or Sassinak or really anything. Give me Rogue and Gambit, give me Shadow and Dagger (although that’s coming, please don’t be a mess).

  7. Guest says:

Tobey Maguire will always be THE Spider-man to me.

  8. Lightpurple says:

I want to see how they fit him into the MCU.

    And more Marisa Tomei!

  9. Melody says:

Keaton chews the scenery when he wants to – love him.

  10. Sam says:

I’ll pass. This is clearly not aimed at me. Spider-Man and Deadpool are my favorites but this is just a no from me. My favorite Spider-Man was Tobey….although Andrew Garfield wasn’t bad….the movies just weren’t on par with the original spider man films. Oh well. I got my Deadpool film last year so I guess I can’t have everything lol

  11. Lucy says:

Not really, but Tom’s a very talented young lad, so it’ll be nice to see him do well with this.

  12. Originaltessa says:

There was something so wonderful and weird about Tobry Maguire as Spider-Man. He was really and truly awkward and a huge dork and that came a cross. Andrew and this kid are too cool or something, like in no way would you believe they were nerds or outcasts.

  13. inka says:

The original spiderman will always be my spiderman( I don’t like the actor but he pulled it perfectly). This spider costume sucks. And iron man the diva? No thank you.

  14. Green Is Good says:

Did anybody ask for a Spider-Man reboot?

  15. me says:

Why do they keep rebooting Spiderman? How many damn Spiderman movies do we need? It’s the same story over and over again.

  16. Amanda DG says:

So tired of super hero movies… especially the constant reboots…

  17. Jag says:

I must be a 13 year old boy, instead of an almost 48 year old woman because I think that looks very entertaining. lol

I don’t like the casting of Auntie May though. And I do wish they’d quit with the origin of Spider Man; I’d rather they just show us him after he’s already established and move on.

Won’t watch in the theatre, but will see it at some point.

  18. Merlin'sWife says:

According to my bf, who reads all the Spider-man comics, they have borrowed a lot of elements from the new Spider-man comic book series- like his friend and the bit with him trying on the suit- but the new Spider-man in the comics is a Hispanic/black kid named Miles Morales. I wish they’d gone with him instead of another Peter Parker origin story.
