Duchess Kate in Temperley London at gallery gala: Katie Keen in green?

The Portrait Gala 2017 - fundraising dinner

Here are some photos of the Duchess of Cambridge last night at a gala dinner at the National Portrait Gallery. She’s the royal patron for the National Portrait Gallery, and she manages to do two or three events for the gallery a year, almost always some kind of “gala” or “party.”

For this event, Kate chose a doily dress by Temperley London, one of her favorite labels and one of her favorite suppliers for lacy doily dresses. Kate has such a thing for lace, I don’t even know how to describe it, actually. Like, Nicole Kidman loves lace too, but Kidman changes up her look enough where I’m not constantly like “enough with the doilies, Kidman.” This Temperley gown is similar in design to the black lace Temperley Kate has worn several times over the years. The big difference is that last night’s look was a Christmas-y hunter green and this one doesn’t have a V-neck like the black gown. As for the Christmas vibes, I thought I was hallucinating, like maybe I was the only one who would think Kate looks like she was headed for a Christmas event. But no – look at her Kiki McDonough earrings! She put red-jeweled earrings with a green dress. Christmas in March.

Meanwhile, it was just announced yesterday that Kate is now set to visit Luxembourg in May. Kate rarely makes solo trips, so it’s noteworthy that the British government thinks she can handle herself on what will probably be a one or two-day trip. William and Kate’s itinerary is filling up for the spring and summer, and it seems like they really are going to be the Brexit ambassadors. Well played, Poor Jason. I laughed at the idea months ago, but it’s happening.

    Weeooo weeooo wiglet alarm!

I wonder if she gurned and gargled her way through her interactions with staff hahaha.

    • Nn says:

      Lol wiglet alarm
Seriously, she would look so much better if she got rid of the wiglet.

    • PIa says:

Honestly can we stop with the wiglet shaming? I mean, first O’Reilly and this too. I am being honest, there is nothing wrong with wigs/weaves/extensions, and making comments like this makes it seem like there is something wrong.

      • LAK says:

The wiglet is a running gag on the royal threads ever since the Palace officially denied it’s existence. It’s ridiculous that out of all the things that are written about her, true or untrue, and there have been some truly mean things written about her, THIS was the one that provoked a Palace statement within hours of it being pointed out.

No one who comments on it on CB thinks she should be ashamed of it or that she shouldn’t wear one and it’s never been mentioned in that spirit.

      • bluhare says:

Exactly, LAK. I’ve taken a turn or two on the wiglet wagon myself. It’s called having fun. And Kate’s the one who made a big deal of it — as you said — by denying it.

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

As LAK and Bluhare say we are taking the p!ss. She made a big deal over this when the media pointed it out, she even fired her hairdresser when he inadvertently confirmed the press reports. Of all the things to get offended about and it proves her vanity, hence why we also take the p!ss out of her style etc..

I think if she was out and proud over her wiglets then no one would care.

      • TryingToThink says:

Well, as a Royal Kate should be somewhat above showbusiness celebrity vanity. But instead she taps into everything: false hair, false teeth, false cheeks (fillers) and false style (no style).

Additionally nobody would mind a little bit of vanity if Kate would use her “beauty” in order to generate headlines for her royal duty work. But Kate does nearly skip out of all duties and manages to make headlines for her vanity issues (clothes, hair, makeup) only. And even for that she lacks style.

      • mary mary says:

Thank you Pla for calling out the obvious hypocrisy. Shaming and tearing down another human being’s appearance should not be okay

What Bill O’Reilly did was shame Maxine Waters, that is not okay. He should have stay focused and on point about the issues, but instead took the low road to shame her on her appearance.

      • bluhare says:

        Q. Where did I shame and tear down this woman for wearing extensions?
        A. Nowhere.

    • INeedANap says:

For a high necked lace dress like this she really should have worn her hair back. There’s a lot going on near her face and neck and it’s confusing, rather than elegant. For such a tall woman she really doesn’t take advantage of the space and clean lines her build affords her.

      • TryingToThink says:

She doesn’t want to be tall. She longs to be the little petite country aristo that is why all the doilies and sausage curls come out. She wants the Jane Austen costume movies style and not modern Paris. She isn’t elegant.

      • INeedANap says:

        @TryingtoThink

As a short woman myself (albeit with the build Kylie Jenner paid for #shade) I would be delighted to have Kate’s height and build. I would spend my days dressed as Auntie Mame.

      • JustBitchy says:

        Trying to think.
I disagree. Kate loves to be tall and wears very high heels all the time and ends up embarrassingly taller than all others she meets

      • Nn says:

She wants long legs. Not height. There is a difference.
Someone can be tall and have short legs (like kate) and some can be short and have long legs and I believe kate would like to be short or average height with long slim legs.
Feminine and petite enough to look cute and not be taller than men but slim and long enough legs where she can wear short skirts and look good.
Heels, especially nude ones, give the appearance of longer legs. She always gets the nude shade wrong though because she insists on tanning and then piles on the pink blush. It’s like she can’t decide if she wants an English rose princess diana look or a tan medditeranian look. Someone should tell her you can’t have both at the same time.

    • Mary mary says:

I think she looks nice. Her hair looks glossy, the green dress emphasizes the green of her eyes.

There are more important things going on in the world than criticizing another woman’s appearance.

      • R Rice says:

        Right!

      • LAK says:

So what are you doing here?

      • amy says:

This is a gossip website, Mary. Just saying.

      • nic919 says:

There are also more important organizations and people who deserve UK taxpayer money instead of this work shy adult woman.

      • mary mary says:

Where is the gossip? amy ? lak? Plenty of appearance criticism, but no gossip 🙂

What am I doing here? Expressing opinions different than the bashing of another’s appearance. Criticism of lack of work ethic is one thing, but going the Bill O’ Reilly route is hypocrisy.

        Just saying 🙂

      • LAK says:

And i repeat, what are you doing here? Just saying.

And who is Bill O’Reilly? Please connect the dots for me because i do not knowingly know a Billy O’Reilly nor do i know how discussing Kate’s wiglet is doing a Bill O’Reilly hypocrisy.

      • Megan says:

@LAK, if you don’t know who Bill O’Reilly is, please keep it that way. He is a revolting piece of human garbage. No one needs O’Reilly in their life.

      • Megan says:

        duplicate comments

      • Megan says:

        another dupe

      • Megan says:

        dupe to

      • LAK says:

Megan: I genuinely don’t know who he is, and was about to google to find out. I shall take your advice and remain ignorant (urban and oxford dictionary definitions) of him.

      • JustBitchy says:

Mary Mary au contraire. Digital Unicorn and Detrtitous have loads of gossipy stuff

      • Graymatters says:

Okay, I’ll not criticize her appearance. Instead, I’ll comment on what the Art History major had to say when she visited an art museum. She looked nice and had a lot of interesting things to say about…. ?

Some of the other attendees looked gossip worthy. Can we talk about how Erdem dressed up Rosamund Pike in a gothic nightie?

    • Miko says:

The difference is Kate and her UK loving press are always going on and on about how amazing Kate’s HAIR is. Well it’s NOT ALL HERS, so if someone wants to call her on the Wiglet, I have no problem Especially when that’s what she showcases the most and even went to the press to deny/complain when the extensions were exposed by her hairdresser in the UK.

Please don’t compare Kate to Maxine Waters. Maxine is a women who struggled, pulled herself up by her own strong will and hard work ,into a honorable position in government. Maxine Waters who tirelessly helps those on the edges of society, those in need, those who don’t have a voice. Maxine Water’s speaks for those who can’t be seen or are neglected or voices are not heard or listened to in society. Please don’t compare Maxine Waters to Kate. Kate is a person who lived for a decade being supported by her parents, clubbing, vacationing, partying, waiting for the phone to ring so she could meet up with her Prince boyfriend.

      • India Andrews says:

People need to stop feeding the troll who says it is illegal to criticize a shallow woman on her appearance.

  2. Lightpurple says:

Doesn’t she have this exact same dress in three other colors?

  3. sarri says:

The Botox and filler injections are so obvious.

    • Alex says:

      Kate Wildentein

    • MinnFinn says:

I’m bad at spotting that. What are the signs in Kate?

    • notasugarhere says:

She’s looking extra tan here. She had an event on the 23rd, not sure if she got away for another sunning weekend? Either that or extra spray tan.

    • Maria says:

My comment is this: why does a thirty-five year-old woman, a very pretty woman, feel that she needs to have fillers and hair extensions? She doesn’t need fillers, nor does she need extensions. It seems to me that some in this generation make it all about how you look. My generation (baby boomer) fought for women’s rights, equality etc. Maybe Waity is responding to what the public wants, thin, beautiful, wrinkle-free, with lots of beautiful hair. We are not about equality if we continue down this road. Men can be fat, bald, they don’t have fillers, do they? And as many have said before, maybe we are making about her looks because she lacks in her professional (almost non-existent) life. But, honestly, what will she look like at 60 when she has had years and years of fillers. And what we don’t know the long-term health effects at this point. Why can’t we just age normally?

      • Soothie says:

You have no idea if she has fillers and hair extensions other than photo speculation. Unless you are her doctor or hairdresser?

      • notasugarhere says:

Her former hairdresser was known for doing extensions – that was basically all he did at that salon. When that was outed, he was fired.

      • Polly says:

@Maria, have a look at most Kate threads and there are endless comments about her bad skin, her jowls, her wrinkles, her size and shape, etc. I agree we should be allowed to age normally, but I can certainly understand why a woman in the public eye would choose not to.

      • bluhare says:

She also had 6 hour hair appointments at times. I remember reading that — it was so she could get her hair cut and colored. It does not take 6 hours for that.

      • mika says:

Her hairdresser is the one who said she had EXTENSIONS, he broadcasted in the press and he was swiftly fired, albeit quietly after the uproar she made about it. So yes she wears extensions.

      • Olenna says:

I’m not ragging on her for getting fillers or botox or extensions, but let’s be real, Soothie. I, myself, am considering getting botox to lessen my marionette lines, albeit subtly. But, Kate? Her new and very prominent apple cheeks are a stark contrast from photos taken just days before. That is clearly fillers. Once you lose the youthful fat and it’s natural contours in your cheeks, it’s difficult to restore it artificially without being noticeable. She still looks pretty but not the same, and I personally think the fillers were done with a heavy hand.

  4. Guest says:

She really loves her lace dresses, doesn’t she?

    • minx says:

IMO it’s too much lace. My daughter just got her prom dress (red). The top is lace, like Kate’s, with the long sleeves. It’s two piece, bares a little midriff. But the skirt is plain, sort of satin. So the lace really pops on the top. Kate’s dress is too fussy for my taste.

      • TryingToThink says:

Kate in doily usually looks like she nicked some doily tablecloth and wrapped them around herself.

  5. Alleycat says:

I know people on here have to make fun of everything she does/wears, but I like this dress. I don’t necessarily think every time you wear green, it’s Christmas themed. I’m also a fan of lace so I may be biased. But it’s a nice cut and color, and her hair looks nice here too.

    • Millennial says:

I agree, she looks lovely here.

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

She suits green but she overdoes it with the lace.

    • runcmc says:

Yeah I absolutely love this look. I’m not a fan of her public self (get to work, lady!!) but she looks gorgeous in this dress.

    • Chaine says:

The color is great on her but the lace makes this a granny dress to me. Too old for her.

    • bluhare says:

I agree Kate looks nice in it. But isn’t it almost the same as a black lace with nude lining she wore before? I noticed the same seaming in the front.

      • LAK says:

WWKD had a side by side comparison of the lace pattern, and it is the same, but in different colours.

    • HappyMom says:

I think her hair and face look great. (and fillers, and extensions-blah, blah, blah-I live in SoCal-most of the women I know do the same.)

      • Nic919 says:

The women in SoCal don’t have taxpayers fund their beauty regimen. Kate does. And she pretends that she never wears extensions or gets Botox. If she owned this stuff then people wouldn’t say as much.

      • HappyMom says:

@Nic919-I find her useless, so I’m no Kate apologist: but why in the world would she have to confirm that she uses Botox or extensions?! That’s insane.

      • nic919 says:

Until she spends her own money on what she does to herself, then yes, people have a right to question why she needs the botox, extensions, many expensive gowns that all look the same, etc.

Because she is a public person, who is supposedly working on mental health issues, her presentation of a false image, also further contributes to the unrealistic portrayals that push young girls and women toward eating disorders and other psychological issues. If you have to lie about using botox and hair extensions, and she fired one of her hairdresser for confirming the extensions, then she is a part of the problem that she is supposedly trying to help solve.

    • seesittellsit says:

@Alleycat – partially agree – the dress is nicely cut and fitted, and while the color is somewhat dull on her complexion (she looks better in either brighter or more pastel colors, IMO), it’s hardly an eyesore. But lace patterns against bare skin can look a bit . . . um . . . scrofulous in darker colors, and this is the case with the upper part of this dress.

    • Shirleygail says:

It’s only Christmsassy because she added red earrings!

    • R Rice says:

      I think she looks great

  6. Badoosh2678 says:

She looks great and I love the earrings

  7. Sarah says:

Time for a haircut, her hair is a long mess.

    • Embee says:

In the picture on the main page her hair looks like it is lobbed and it looks SOOOOOOO freaking good and stylish!!!! CHOP IT!!!

      • minx says:

You’re right, it looks really flattering. She needs to get at least 6 inches off, if not more. Maybe William likes long hair, but too bad–let him grow it (har!)

    • HappyMom says:

I think her hair looks great in these pictures.

    • M.A.F. says:

Her hair is not a long mess. If anything, she needs to stop curling it that way.

    • Maria says:

I agree that her hair is too long, too full. I don’t care if she gets extensions or not. She has a pretty face, so why hide it with all that hair. Get it cut to shoulder length. A chignon would have been more appropriate. The dress is very nice, she looks good otherwise.

  8. Snowpea says:

Oh my god why is Kate so boring? Does she not have any interests, any hobbies, any pursuit of higher leaning that doesn’t involve dieting or shopping at Zara?

I cannot believe the future Queen of England (or whatever her title is) is this vacuous, this dull, this poorly educated and with such a dearth in curiosity about the world in general.

Plus she’s a terrible dresser! She wears a variation on this dated, old lady, lace frock every single damn time. Or a coatdress for day duties.

Seriously, Ive said it before, Ill say it again… this woman is as plain as pumpkin!

    • Birdie says:

Ever heard of, if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything? I get that she is not popular, but how do you know she has no hobbies? I think she looks lovely here and she’s harmless. Why take the energy to hate on someone, who has no connection to your life?

      • notasugarhere says:

Having someone this poor at their job – a job representing 60+ million people of the UK on the global stage – is not “harmless”.

      • original kay says:

She’s not harmless when she says things like “I have a good life because my husband takes care of me” or to the like.

And I am a Kate apologist, but I can’t forgive that comment.

      • Nn says:

“I have a good life because my husband takes care of me”

But it’s true and the first honest thing to come out of her mouth.

      • notasugarhere says:

Nn, I think it is clear he doesn’t take care of her. She is financially supported by the taxpayers, and it appears to be her mother who caters to her and her husband’s adolescent whims and immaturity.

“How interesting” in response to a child telling her they’d been deliberately maimed to make more money as a beggar. Harmless? No.

      • Starlight says:

There is an error she does have hobbies she colours in adult colouring books and makes homemade chutneys plays tennis and swims. She has to do something when Wills is off with the lads at Newmarket

      • Lady D says:

““How interesting” in response to a child telling her they’d been deliberately maimed to make more money as a beggar.”
That remark cemented for me her stupidity and heartlessness. She was despicable that day.

      • nic919 says:

She gets millions from the UK taxpayers for an extravagant lifestyle and does nothing to earn it. There are people in the UK who won’t get the proper services because they have been diverted to her and her family. So she actually is not a harmless person at all.

And that doesn’t even include the stupid things she has said about mental health and other causes.

      • HappyMom says:

This is Celebitchy. The whole point is to engage is bitchy critiques and commentary. You are on the wrong site if you want all positive.

      • Birdie says:

@HappyMom, so your name is meant to be sarcastic, right?

      • HappyMom says:

        Ohhh, burn, Birdie. Eye-roll.

    • frisbee says:

That’s completely unfair! She enjoys colouring in books dontchaknow….

      • Deedee says:

Don’t forget she takes pictures of her kids! And pictures during her expensive tour vacations! And she likes to shop!

    • Mathilde says:

Well, if you go back in history you’ll find plenty of useless, vapid, indulgent and even crazy kings and queens, so she ‘s in good company for sure. They are there because of an accident of birth or through marriage, not because of their admirable qualities.

  9. Capepopsie says:

    Well, I Love lace too!
But She could have had other earrings
    to avoid the Christmas vibes.

    • Olenna says:

Yep, the earrings should have stayed home. Before I even read the article, my first thought was she looks like a walking Christmas tree, ornaments and all.

  10. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Katie Keen loves lace but lace does not love Katie Keen. Whenever she wears lace she looks like she’s playing dress up in Grandma’s clothes.

Am in no mood for Katie’s keeness today – our EU divorce has kicked off and I expect it to get nasty pretty quickly over money and rights of EU/UK nationals.

    *Think of the children!!*

    • Capepopsie says:

I feel your pain, but you can hardly blame that on her?

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Well she’s going to be bringing her ‘keeness’ to Brexit by being a ‘Brexit Ambassador’ with loads of nice little trips to the EU looking out of her depth while wearing very expensive high fashion clothes that she has to change every 5 mins. Its estimated that she spent around £40K+ on clothes/accessories for the 2 day Paris trip.

Considering how much the divorce is going to cost us I expect her to start wearing Zara to her engagements from now on, or at the very least repeat all the coat dresses that she has in the same style but different colours.

    • eXo says:

Have you read this article? It’s so ridiculous:

Kate’s Brexit tour continues! Duchess to visit Luxembourg in May as the royals continue their European charm offensive

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4356678/Duchess-Cambridge-visit-Luxembourg-May.html

      • notasugarhere says:

Maria-Teresa in Lux is an easy mark, just like Willem-Alexander in the Netherlands. MT always seems so kind, and she’s been used before as a gentle way to break in new royals.

Mary’s first event was Lux visiting Denmark the month F&M’s engagement was announced. MT wore a very unfortunate bright green and purple dress, but her smile was lovely as always.

    • notasugarhere says:

The view from the back is very unflattering. With the ribbon where it is, plus the line of lace around the back, it looks like she has an incredibly long and droopy bum.

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Yes, it wasn’t flattering from the back. Made her bum disappear. She has the figure of a model but still looks crap, she really really needs a professional stylist.

      • Disco Dancer says:

Kate has a flat pancake butt. This lace dress would look lovely on a lady that has more curves and you need booty to pull off a dress this fitted. Kate actually looks a lot nicer with the wider skirts.

    • Cee says:

Today’s a sad day. I’ll be backpacking through the UK in August and even though I CAN’T WAIT the whole Brexit mess is making me a bit anxious so I can’t imagine what it’ll be like for those living there.

  11. AfricanBoy says:

I don’t like this dress. It looks like curtains were used to make it and head-to-toe lace is overkill.

    • RaeRae says:

Exactly. Too much lace. Would work a lot better if it was knee length pencil skirt. Or just lace for the top half, plain fabric at the bottom?

    • minx says:

      I don’t either, too much.

    • vava says:

I agree. She’s overdone it with all the lace dresses, long and short. Just like she’s overdone it with all the coat dresses that seem to look way too similar.

Kate is just plain boring at this point.

  12. eXo says:

That’s just too much lace, I like the top of the dress but that’s it.

  13. Megan says:

Brexit ambassador is a great job. Tons of free vacations.

  14. Viivi says:

My feeling as a French (so not much of an expert about royalties), after the Verbier incident/disaster, Catherine has been handling the things pretty well in Paris (no drama, all smiles…) My opinion this girl is surprisingly tougher than people think, time will tell anyways if she has guts.
The queen is happy, she is giving her more responsabilities. William must be heating his hat at the moment .

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Kate has always been tough – she would never have gotten this far if she wasn’t. She put up with a lot from him and the press. He has never ever treated her well and spent most of their dating years cheating on her and putting her down.

I don’t think The Queen is happy, neither Kate or William have shown any interest in stepping up to their duties willingly. They step up because they are forced to. They only way they can learn about/be comfortable in their future roles is to actually participate. Its obvious to me that Kate thought she could live the life of a celebrity when she married him – I don’t think she ever really understood the expectations that comes with being a member of the RF and as such was never ever prepared for public life.

      • notasugarhere says:

That’s my read as well. This isn’t a shrinking wall flower. What we’re seeing is them very very very reluctantly agreeing to work – as long as it involves lots of vacations-disguised-as-work. Day trip to Lux to have lunch with MT? Easy.

      • sophietta says:

Last year when I discovered this site I said that Kate was quite as tough as nails and my opinion hasn’t changed. To put up with the disgraceful way Willy had and continues to treat her bears witness to the fact she was in for the long haul and wasn’t letting go. I also think she’s bright in a street sense sort of way, as is her mother thus enabling them to win their William campaign.

I also think it’s possible she might, in the years to come and, provided she is forced to adopt the role of ambassador, indeed step up to the plate. Fame, popularity, idolatry are an addiction this type of woman would find enthralling.

      • notasugarhere says:

sophietta, I agree she loves the fame and giggling fangirl adulation. What she’ll never like is the work that goes along with the job.

      • Tata says:

@sophietta@vivi is it a cultural divide on how we view her? To me she seems like a doormat, not tough.

She was in that boat race thing when she and William broke up, then he wanted her back and “the publicity disrupted the training” so she dropped out in a hot second.

Or william wanted to see her, she flew to where he was, he saw her an hour then told her he changed his plans, she cried and had to fly right back out.

It would be one thing if he treated her differently pre versus post marriage, but he treated her like crap the whole time and she let him.

Seems like this Verbier thing is nothing new, just part of their arrangement where he treats her badly, and she gets to buy a new dress (thr same dress in green instead of black).

      • Maria says:

Don’t know about her being tough. She seems unable to do much without Wily’s help or her mother’s. And I don’t know if a tough person would have been able to waity all these years. She has endured a fair amount, but I don’t know if she is tough. The Queem Mother, now she was tough, there was steel in that backbone.

    • TheOtherOne says:

Serious question – Where is WILL? He has been MIA since Paris. I am not a royal watcher but his absence seems strange especially after the terrorist attack last week and his blonde high-fiving buddy is extending her 15 minutes of fame (good for her haha). Is this normal? Doesn’t the French trial start in April?

      • notasugarhere says:

It has been delayed until May, but I don’t know when in May. We’ll have birthday pictures of their daughter taken by her, trip to Lux May 11, and Pippa’s wedding (will the kids be in the wedding, etc.) used as PR distractions.

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Probably pretending to work as his helicopter co-pilot job.

      • bluhare says:

He had an engagement today; laid a wreath in memory of the police officer killed last week, and was at a school.

    • bluhare says:

I have always thought she’s no wilting flower, but she’s disappointed me with her willingness to step out and show us. I do agree she handled the Verbier fall out well.

      • notasugarhere says:

She’s spent 15 years being okay with him doing whatever he wants, in exchange for the status and title she gets. Is that handling it well? Or just doing as she always has, because this is bargain they struck.

      • LAK says:

Nota: i agree with Bluhare. Whether or not this is the bargain they struck, it will be a cold day in hell before Kate shows us a frowny face because of her life imploding in some way.

She will smile, gurn, sparkle brightly no matter what, because that is what she has trained herself to do. See her response at every negative turn of her life.

      • notasugarhere says:

To me, it isn’t that she has a great game face. It is that to her thinking, there is nothing to see here. Nothing unusual. Nothing to be upset about because this is her life and she has no problem with the deal she struck (other than being required to work).

      • Nic919 says:

She is handling it, but her security hair blanket, crotch clutching and constant slouching are not the sign of someone who is confident, so the garbage Will is dealing is taking it’s toll on her on some level.

      • bluhare says:

No, nas, I disagree. Whether it’s business as usual only they know, but if it is, this one played out publicly. I don’t know about you, but being played out in public would be a total game changer for me.

      • Mathilde says:

What is it that played out in public though? I don’t think he did anything that would even require a comment. We also have no idea if Will was in contact with Kate during that weekend and how much, or what even happened, if anything. But going by the pictures and if that was my husband, I would not have a problem with it.

      • bluhare says:

Mathilde (a) her husband missed an important event so he could party in Verbier. (b) photos of him in all his glory were all over everywhere, complete with so much mockery I almost started feeling sorry for him.

I would have been furious at him, and if you’re more tolerant than I am, then I applaud you. Seriously. If my husband was doing all that so publicly everyone was commenting, I’d be mightily annoyed.

      • notasugarhere says:

He embarrassed her many times before during the dating years, she always willingly chased him until they were together again. He didn’t do the chasing, she did. She was free to walk away to a better man, and chose to keep chasing William.

      • bluhare says:

I assume you’re responding to me, nas, and it still doesn’t really address the point. His behavior played out publicly. I think that’s different than now as (a) they weren’t married, and feeling up women in bars is a bit different than when you’re playing in bars with your wife and children at home. Maybe I’m traditional or old fashioned, but that adds an entirely different dynamic to it.

      • vava says:

I’m not sure she handled the fallout all that well. What sort of woman just grins and bears it? Not someone I would admire, that’s for sure. I think the message she sent out was a very mixed message. If he was my husband he would have been in the dog house, BIG TIME.

      • notasugarhere says:

His behavior has always played out publicly, both before and after marriage. Hunting with Jecca instead of at family vacation, Jecca’s wedding instead of daughter’s first Easter. This is just the latest, and given what we’ve seen for 15 years, she gets that it is the deal she signed.

  15. Anitas says:

How to show your keenness: Sink your head in your shoulders, pull down a curtain of hair around your face, hold your clutch in front of you like a barrier.

  16. annabanana says:

Is it just me or is there something weird going on in her chest area. Looks really odd.

  17. Citresse says:

Sufferin succotash 70s I can remember the doily craze on nightables.
Kate’s dress is Frederick’s of Hollywood met born again virgin prom queen – again it’s Kate mixing styles with the usual bad hair. She’s had some hits however. I still believe one of her best looks was in Adelaide. She wore that nicely tailored pink outfit with poker straight hair worn away from her face. Kate looks best in simple lines, very tailored and if she wants to keep her hair long then lose the curls.

  18. Alexandria says:

I love laced long dresses. You’re just haters…she can wear whatever she wants and her hair however. She’s not a fashionista. Like Sophie and Anne, all she has to do is work hard, put in the numbers, give coherent speeches, not flash people…oh wait.

    • MunichGirl says:

You’re just haters = I don’t have any good arguments that’s why I call you haters

    • Indira says:

Well Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Queen Maxima, etc. also have to do the same things like Kate and they manage to look modern, not frumpy like Dolittle.

EDIT: If it was sarcasm, I apologize.

      • Mathilde says:

I think Maxima looks frumpy quite often and typically queenish in the kind of getup that I wouldn’t wear even if I was paid for it. Queens and princesses are not meant to be stylish but to represent history and tradition.

      • notasugarhere says:

Maxima’s fashion is enthusiastic, if not always good. Queen Mathilde of Belgium is the one who seems stuck in the 1950s fashion-wise for the last few years. Her evening looks can be simple and stunning, but day-wear can be bad (giant orange hat, giant pink hat, bandage hats, etc.).

    • notasugarhere says:

I think Alexandria was being sarcastic, esp given that last line. Sarcasm doesn’t always come across in text.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

LOL You almost got me. Excellent.

  19. Redgrl says:

    Like the colour. That’s all I’ve got…

  20. Indira says:

Why do pretty dresses on her always look frumpy? I don’t know how she does it.. is it her posture or the hair (which is too long)?

  21. bread says:

I think this shade of green goes beautifully with her hair colour. That’s about it.

  22. Mikasa says:

Wow, talk about bad posture. She could wear the most beautiful dress in the world but it would look bad because of her poor posture.

  23. JustME says:

She had beautiful hair when she was studying, now it’s just long, fake and should be cut.

  24. Montréalaise says:

I think that this dress – like the ice-blue evening gown in Paris – has a real mother-of-the-bride vibe. I do like the colour, however; one of the things Kate gets right when choosing her clothes is knowing which colours suit her best.

  25. amy says:

Is her favorite movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame? Stand up straight, girl!

  26. Rosey says:

There is too much lace for me, but the colour looks nice on her.

  27. cindyp says:

Ugh, she just never gets it right; prom dress, big hair, bad posture, maniacal smiling…

  28. Pumpkin Pie says:

What happened to her mouth? Her smile is not the same as before.

  29. Stacy Dresden says:

With the gold accessories (esp uninspired design of that clutch) this is a solid Mother Of The Bride look!

  30. NOLA says:

I do like Kate in green. But this dress seems out of season. The heavy fabric; dark green; and the long sleeves scream winter to me. Is it still cold / wintery in London? I live in Louisiana, and we’re hitting mid-70s right now so in my mind we are in the midst of spring.

    • Mathilde says:

It’s not exactly warm, but not that cold either and the green is really not an appropriate colour for this time of the year. There’s nothing wrong with it, I think, but I’m a bit tired as well of lace. Not her best look!

      • NOLA says:

Gotcha. Totally agree that the dark green is not seasonally appropriate. Maybe a jade green or something brighter.

Side note: another person posted as NOLA, which makes me irrationally annoyed.

  31. Cee says:

I love lace but with Kate it’s always taking it too far. She’s being swallowed by the dress. However, whatever, it’s what she likes but that bow belt thing is terrible and adds even more pattern and texture to a fussy LACE dress. I just wish she would show interest in something more relatable (HeadsTogether is the exception, that’s a really good cause!) and prepare better. She could do so much with so little.

Anyway, today’s a very sad day, personally, so I’m not up to really dissecting Kate and her new Soft Power role.

    • R Rice says:

You would be complaining if the outfit was too expensive and how you had to pay for it.

      • Cee says:

I don’t pay for it, so… Some Royals amount to something, Kate, on the other hand, not much. But hey, we were talking about a dress, which at this point is all we can talk about regarding Kate.

    • Why do her belts always ride up her waist in the front? They never come straight around her waist.

      • Cee says:

mmm perhaps because the belt is there to change her figure. Many women do this to make their bodies look hourglass, but I honestly think the belt was way too much for this dress.

      • HappyMom says:

Because she’s long waisted. She’s trying to give the illusion of shorter torso.

  32. LanaK says:

    Terrible posture.

  33. Tiffany says:

That damn hair. Goodness, do something with it.

  34. Beckysuz says:

Her posture is just appalling. Stand up straight dear(I sound like my grandma)

  35. The Original Mia says:

Boring lace doily for a boring person. Her cheeks are ridiculous. I hate those Kiki earrings. They look cheap.

  36. Starlight says:

Actually the girl that stole the show from Kate was Alexa Chung she wore this gorgeous spring off the shoulder dress, so pretty feminine and the fabrics really shouted spring evening wear. So effortless in comparison to this heavy festive green Lacey number. A complete comparison of seasons

  37. PettyRiperton says:

I can’t with this woman sigh If all my job required was to look pretty, shake hands, cut ribbons and give a speech or two I would be the best at that because that isn’t work. I would be the baddest royal in history fashion icon, I love clothes and it irritates me that she has all the resources but no style. That’s like having a chef’s kitchen and equipment but don’t know how to cook a waste.

    • HappyMom says:

This is why I got into it with someone else on another site who said “Oh I’m no good at public speaking either.” Um-she has very few responsibilities. When I had a job that I had to do public speaking (which I hated) I practiced all the fricking time! And I got so much better. All she has to do is show up, wear something appropriate and pretty, act interested and give a decent speech. And for that-she has a life of luxury! She’s a princess! Act like it.

  38. Sushi says:

All the royals are powerless so how royals meet royals helping Brexit.

    • TryingToThink says:

      It is a big fraud.
Allegedly the Royals don’t govern. In truth nobody knows what is going on behind the scenes.
Nobody knows which policies are supported by the Queen and which ones are not. No transparency.

I have no idea why the Royals suddenly seem to want to help to buffer the consequences of a Brexit. Why would they care? What investments do they have that might be affected by Brexit?

Nobody knows. Nobody knows the fortune of the Queen as nobody is allowed to see her accounting books. The Queen allegedly pays income tax voluntarily. But you can’t check if she pays it all as nobody knows how much she earns per year. Nobody can check her money affairs.
I find such intransparency in a head of state absolutely disgusting.

  39. Merritt says:

I like this dress but I like lace.

  40. Cerys says:

Yet another new outfit. A bribe to undertake more duties?? It’s a nice dress but very similar to others she has worn before. The whole effect is ruined, as usual, by the hair and posture.

  41. Rocio says:

Nope. I don’t like lacy doily dresses and the colour is awful. Sorry, Kate, you look like a 60 year old lady in that dress. She should have repeated the Jenny Packman she wore in Paris.

  42. KiddVicious says:

The dress looks like a Christmas tablecloth in the first photo. Once you see the detail up close it’s very pretty. I like it, but still think it’s a bit too Christmassy. And heavy.

  43. Tough Cookie says:

    Frumpy as usual.

Although I have to admit Rosamund Pike might look worse. Actually none of the fashion shown in this slideshow impresses me

    http://www.vogue.com/slideshow/kate-middleton-duchess-of-cambridge-alexa-chung-national-portrait-gallery-london-gala-2017-photos#1

  44. TryingToThink says:

So Kate got new hair and new cheekbones because the apples of her cheeks are too big to be her own skinny self.
I suspect Kate also got some subtle fillers for her upper lip. The latter used to vanish completely when she smiled. Now her upper lip is present when she smiles – at least a little bit.

Green dress and gold clutch and red earrings are christmas. The make-up is all bronzed summer make up.
    The combination is just awful.
Had she used some light green accessoires (clutch, shoes, scarf) then I might have passed it off as spring-green ensemble. But that is just awful. Kate is ruining Britain’s reputation for fresh and edgy style.

    One addition:
Luxembourg is a banking tax haven. For some of those documents you need to go to Luxembourg in person and sign them. They won’t tell your tax office in your home country. Perhaps Kate is going to get a personal tour of certain royal documents?

I really can’t imagine what Kate would be doing in Luxembourg. There are some Luxembourg-ish Royals but that is about it.
Luxembourg is part of the EU and Jean-Claude Juncker who is a former prime minister of Luxembourg (= former presiden of L.) is the current President of the European Commission. He did prevent the introduction of more transparency in the banking sector. He kind of protected tax fraud from legal persecution.

  45. Skylark says:

Seriously, stop with this narrative that people in the UK regard either of these two Morons of Uselessness as ambassadors of anything. I’m Irish but I live and work in London and not one single person I know, whether it be family, friends, work colleagues or random people I come across/talk to in the pub, has the tiniest bit of interest in the non-doings of the Dolittles and, most specifically, in the context of Brexit.

My heart is truly broken today that my beautiful, adopted city, so joyfully filled with everyone from everywhere, is now on high alert for the summons that will tell them they’re no longer safe and bonafide members of what makes my beautiful home so beautiful.

  46. Sharon Lea says:

Does anyone know of lace dresses are more en vogue in England? Lisa Vanderpump has been wearing lace blouses over bras on Real Housewives for several seasons. Its made me wonder if it is big over there. I figure with all their money, why not branch out a little?? IMO, it is a tired look on LVP.

  47. HK9 says:

This has a nice colour and it’s appropriate but it’s boring AF. Her hair is beautiful but it gets busy looking against the lace and it’s just a bit much. When you combine it with red from the earrings, and it comes off looking Christmasy in March which is not unpleasant just weird. And for goodness sake, I wish she would stand up straight. uggggh

  48. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Just curious about her smile & cheeks first pic. Wtf? (whispering…)

  49. bluecat says:

I Wish she would get her evening wear altered probably both this dress and the white one she wore in Paris were far too long for her. I really think she takes the point of Royalty not showing too much flesh too far, one of these days she will trip herself up.

  50. HannahF says:

For me, I think that she looks okay. I even like the belt. Apparently I don’t have doily issues. That said, I have no problem with the criticism of Kate both in terms of appearance and activities. Her life is underwritten by the British taxpayers so, yes, what she does with that money is fair game for criticism. I’ve noticed that those most critical of her here are our friends in the UK and the Commonwealth.

  51. callmeishmael says:

Ok, I’m cranky today so here goes, in ascending order of uncharitability:

    1) “They’re MY portieres now!”. Ok, I know curtains aren’t generally made of lace but still, I see this dress and think: drapes. Southern Gothic Drapes With Wiglet Fringing.

    2) She looks medicated. If that’s what it takes to dial down the gurning to something approaching a normal smile, so be it.

    3) THE CLUTCH. She might as well be carrying a favourite teddy or a teething blanket. For the love of god, Kate, leave the clutch at home, throw back your shoulders and walk tall. Please.

    • minx says:

Ha! I’m home today so I keep returning to CB and seeing this dress. I don’t like the color (for evening wear) nor the lace. As others have said, the accessories make it look Christmassy. I hate her fake/real/tan/spray/whatever. It’s too heavy, doesn’t go with the overall look of the dress. Her hair is just awful, so schoolgirl. And stand up straight!

    • Sarah says:

Anyone cheering on Meghan on to marry Harry should look at before and after pictures of Kate. She was more full-figured and was really, really pretty and happy looking in her college years. The media attention and scrutiny must be excrutiating. I pick on her here, too, because she really is useless, but to be living in that golden jail cell – ugh. No way. I can’t even imagine. And I think the worst part would be to worry that your husband or your, God forbid, children are targets of terrorists or even plain old kidnappers would make me pace the floors every single night.
I think royal life at the level of Will and Harry would have many, many downfalls.

      • notasugarhere says:

Sophie thrives as a member of the British Royal Family. Why assume Meghan would crumble, when she is an adult who already knows how to handle public attention. Why assume it would all be terrible, where there is evidence to the contrary?

Kate Middleton chose to marry William, she wasn’t forced. Why act like she was a lamb to the slaughter? She doesn’t shy from media attention, she and her family have always sought it. William is the anti-media person, not the Middletons. Again, look at KM’s arms in the sleeveless dress from last week. She’s not wasting away. She’s slim (IMO too slim for her frame) but clearly strong and muscular.

      • msthang says:

Me thinks it’s KAPUT for Meghan and gingerboy!!!

  52. Missmarirose says:

First I want to preface this by noting my utter distaste for Melania Trump.
But when watching her speech about women today, I was struck by how much better she was at delivering her speech than Kate was at the speech that was posted here yesterday.
It’s a pretty sad state of affairs when someone whose job for the past 6 years is giving speeches can’t do better than some one who has only done it for 6 months in what is her 2nd language.
And it’s not like Melania is setting the world on fire with her oratory skills, either.

    • msthang says:

Missmarirose, English is Melania’s fifth language, not her second, in other words she has got 4 others she learned before English. Chutney does not care a fig for the job itself, she just lives for the celebrity part of it and not much else!!

  53. Kaz says:

Looks like a piece of seaweed.
    So so green. All over.
    Topped by all that hair.
    It’s just too much.

  54. dorothy says:

I think it’s a gorgeous looking and she is so fit

  55. LILAG says:

She really needs to fix that posture my gosh. Someone send her to do some pilates or rpg!!!

  56. sunshine gold says:

I think she looks pretty. No complaints.

  57. Sarah says:

Everytime I see her I sit up straight. She has horrible posture, reminds me I do too and to fix it!
