During the Obama presidency, a special breed of Republican was born. That’s what they’d like you to think, that the so-called Freedom Caucus of the GOP was so very different than the regular GOP. The Freedom Caucus was and is referred to as The Suicide Caucus or the Kamikaze Caucus, both of which are more accurate names because these people are unhinged morons who will kill us all if their agenda is ever enacted. Their platform is based on ultra-right Christianity, a deep hatred of the government, ending Obamacare, ending Medicare, ending Medicaid, punishing poor people for being poor, punishing women for being women, and letting business do whatever they want. Also, most of them are pretty racist.
The Kamikaze Caucus is one of the reasons why Trumpcare/Ryancare failed. The caucus couldn’t agree on what to do, but most of these hard-right wingnuts wanted to simply repeal the ACA and leave nothing in its place, so that’s why they wouldn’t vote for Trumpcare. So, funny story. Emperor Bigly just declared war on the Kamikaze Caucus.

Well, this is an interesting development, I guess. It’s widely believed that Poor OG Orangeman John Boehner quit the Speaker of the House position because dealing with the Freedom Caucus was like bashing his head into a brick wall every g–damn day. It was believed that Paul Ryan would be some kind of Freedom Caucus-whisperer, that he alone could tame their intemperance. Turns out, not so much. While I loathe Bigly with all of my soul, I don’t hate this development at all – if Bigly is going to war with the biggest lunatics in his party, we all win. I wore a shirt with the American flag on it to Target right after the election. One guy in the checkout line actually said, “I’m a Trump voter too” as he pointed to the flag on my shirt. When did the flag somehow get co-opted by Republicans?
These Tea Party people and Trump supporters somehow think they’re the most patriotic Americans, bringing it back to what this country was founded on, etc. Sure no rights for black people, women, poor people, etc. It just made me mad!

It hurt my eyeballs to read about the Rep Trump voters in Kentucky who all love Obamacare and admit it saved their lives. Literally. Before Obamacare they were not able to pay $6000 / mth for the medication and treatment needed included – get this!!! Oxygen, which the husband needs after working in a mine. BUT they voted Trump, just hoping he would leave ACA alone. I am a hateful person – I think they deserve to lose every benefit a Dem president gave them. They should rely on the kindness of Reps. See how far that will take them….

I’m really hoping this results in the GOP consuming itself in one glorious moment of self immolation and takes out the Freedom Caucus, 45, Ryan, McConnell, Pence and every other right winger that spent the last eight years trying to screw Obama (and by extension, the entire country) because they couldn’t deal with a black man telling them what to do.
My only concern is this getting twisted into “see how crazy and extreme these nutjobs are? But you can trust us “regular” republicans!”, when their agendas are not dissimilar.
I’m sure that’s how Trump is “selling” it but does it even matter at this point? Trump’s supporters have proven that they will turn a blind eye to literally ALL of his behavior, no matter how unconstitutional, how unethical.

I agree & Trump will try to make them the problem & the extreme but I think Trumpers have lost all credibility with the rest of us by now. I know people who really wanted to know why & what the logic was to support him but we got our answer & there is no turning back, at least for me.
Trump should absolutely go to town on the Freedom Caucus. Nothing stalls bad legislation like party infighting. This really is a win for all of us.

Hmm most important now is that if Trump moves to the left the Democratic Party must not roll over for him. In 2018 we have a shot at the Senate and even a small chance at the House (which means impeachment).
I’ve read the reverse, that chances for the House are possible but the Senate is unlikely.
Either way I hope something changes.
House is okay, because we can still block things in the Senate right now. We need the House.
House is the least likely. There are a lot of houses in straight Republican voting districts (gerrymandered to hell) that can’t be flipped. Senate seats aren’t subject to gerrymandering since they are statewide elections.

The Democrats need to be working as a team to develop some policies they can bring forth in opposition of what the Republicans are doing. They can’t just sit back and scream and do nothing. They need to use this time to lay a foundation for 2018 and 2020..

If you aren’t already doing so, I recommend attending town halls: ask your reps questions, listen to what they are doing to protect the Americans who didn’t vote for this guy, but remember that their hands are essentially tied right now.

I’ve read that Trump has no interest in history. And he doesn’t read. Maybe somebody ought to read him the Cliffnotes version of “All the President’s Men” along about now? It wasn’t the actual Watergate burglary that caused the eventual downfall of Nixon and his henchmen. It was the cover-up and the lies they told to support the cover-up.
