My son loves music, so I play him music videos at home. Because he is likely to have seizures if exposed to the bright blinking lights of a concert, even though I know he’d love the show, I don’t take him there. Quite possibly, because he is legally blind, he may not compute those lights and avoid a seizure. However, due to the chance of a dangerous or unpleasant reaction, I find other, more appropriate, ways to allow him to enjoy music. I would love to hang out with my son at the weekly concert series on the boardwalk, but knowing I’m risking my child’s health and happiness would zap the enjoyment out of it. I think that is what most parents do. You weigh the pros and cons and make the best choice for your child.

I don’t think people need to attack other people’s parenting choices, but maybe this encounter will make Katie realize that her less informed parenting choices are not celebrated by all. My guess is the constant ego stroke by the paps combined with the flashing lights may have confused Katie into thinking her parenting is celebrated instead of just exploited.

if you bloggers really care about the safety of children, stop making stories about them and posting pictures of them. the only reason the paps go after them is because there is demand for it. try taking a stand for these children and helping them, rather than sitting around the office having “concerned” discussions about them while posting their faces on the web.

When my son was 3 years old, he wanted to light the fuses of all the fireworks at a fireworks stand at the same time. I, however, being older and wiser, knew that wasn’t a really good idea (but it would have been really cool to see) so I nixed it. He also wanted to sleep in the doghouse with the dog and go butt naked day in and day out. Sometimes you just have to, you know, be a PARENT.

I agree with “dew” in that Katie is not too bright a bulb. I believe she’s the on featured in a Blind Item that didn’t realize a drag show she saw was actually men dressed as women. She didn’t know what a drag show is. Explains a lot, actually.

um…….no. she doesn’t have to take her out.

she can spend time with her at one of their many homes around the country. plenty of space to play outside or inside, and NO CROWDS, CAMERAS OR PAPARAZZI.

I think Katie is just barely smart enough to be able to act, and complete simple sentences on her own.

She made the unfortunate decision to marry TCruise, which I’m not going to bash her too much about, because she probably had a crush on him for a long time, and he was quite the superstar for many years.

Mentally she seemed fine in the beginning of their marriage, but after he continued making a butt of himself and his credibility tanked, he started the desperate photo ops, which his wife and baby seemed to be who the public wanted.

I give her a bit of credit for trying to keep herself going, but then she goes out looking incredibly depressed, dragging her young daughter along, not dressed appropriately and her hair covering her eyes.

Although it must be rough during all this, she doesn’t seem to be as strong mentally as the average person, combined with not seeming that bright.

I’m betting it was her that was so excited about getting to watch the final in person, and her daughter seemed interested, plus she’d get bonus points from her insane hubby for the photo ops, that she probably didn’t even give it a second thought about how an overly-excited crowd would overwhelm a young child.

The woman that chastised her probably didn’t do it right away, but most likely waited a few minutes to see if Katie might do the right thing to protect her daughter from being so scared. She probably stayed despite her daughter trembling in fear, which irked the lady to tell her off.

I’ve told off a stupid, non-caring mother once for leaving her baby unattended in the car while she was inside a store — this is on the Gulf Coast, so in addition to the risk of kidnappers (lots of pervs here), there’s also the risk of heat stroke.

Katie needs to stop feeling so sorry for the mess she got herself into, and start making decisions based on what’s good for her daughter, rather than what she wants, and will make good photo ops.

Hmm. At least Katie listened to the advice. She could have told her to F off and mind her own… but she left.
I like Katie, she seems very sensitive and I don’t think that she would intentionally try to endanger Suri.

The fact is, Suri was born to two very famous people. The concert thing was a tad extreme, but if Katie actually wants to spend time with Suri, she has no other choice but to take her out with her, thereby coming into contact with the scary paps…. Lets face it, even if Tom Cruise tried to quit this business, he would still be recognized everywhere he goes. So, it’s kind of better that Suri get used to this kind of attention from a younger age.

But yes, I think she will grow up with emotional problems. Most people who NEED fame to the level of Tom Cruise have mental problems to begin with.

According to Scientology, children are to be treated like little adults. Thus, she was brought to the show as if she were an adult. This is just the tip of the iceberg in the bizarre parenting of Suri. Poor, little girl.
