Alex Rodriguez calls Jennifer Lopez ‘an amazing girl’

As many are aware by now, we are in full Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez relationship rollout. A J.Lo rollout always has an accelerated timeline so she’s right on track. The News Leak happened last month, followed by photographic evidence and then a romantic, childless getaway. Friday saw A-Rod’s confirmation of the relationship while appearing on The View so we only have J.Lo’s confirmation and then ring speculation to go!

Rodriguez publicly confirmed their relationship on The View Friday, and the former Yankees player couldn’t hold back his praise for the pop superstar.

“It’s obvious. We’ve been having a great time,” he said when asked directly about whether or not he and Lopez are officially an item. “We’re having a great time. She’s an amazing, amazing girl. One of the smartest human beings I’ve ever met and also an incredible mother.”

Rodriguez added that the Shades of Blue actress is also down-to-earth, despite her megastar status, something that he very much appreciates. “She just likes simple things,” he said. “I mean, she’s a very, very simple person. Loves family. Is a great sister. Is a great daughter.”

As far as facts most people don’t know about Lopez, Rodriguez shared that she ran track in high school and is actually very athletic, before divulging her guilty-pleasure snacks.

“She would kill me if I said too much,” he said, before spilling that she indulges on “chocolate chip ice cream and chocolate chip cookies.”

You can watch the clip here. When I read these quotes, I was ready to pull out my feminist soapbox and trounce this guy. But if you watch it, the nonsense is on The View’s panel, not A0Rod. For instance, as I mentioned in the Mayim Bialik post, I’m not crazy about people publicly referring to women as “girls.” (I am not crazy about it in private but I understand that could fall under ‘friend-speak’ preferences.) But Sara Haines introduces the subject of J.Lo by saying, “Supposedly – you have a new lady boo?” So A-Rod’s answer wasn’t bad. And his checklist of her ‘accomplishments’ being to whom she is related is an attempt to bridge the idiocy of the panels’ questions and his admiration of a very accomplished woman. The bit about J.Lo being a track star was in answer to being asked for some deep secret about J.Lo. I’m not surprised that she’s athletic but I didn’t know she was a track star so it was a good, non-invasive secret to spill. I came away from the clip feeling better about Rodriguez… and distaste for everyone on The View save for Joy who basically gives up trying to ask anything relevant a quarter of the way into the inane grilling.

J.Lo and A-Rod were spotted (and photographed – you can see the pics here) on two separate dates this weekend. They make a striking pair, not that that counts for anything but does make for great photo-viewing. And, of course, we already know, “They definitely see a future together.” I wish them both well. This relationship comes with more baggage than a socialite on a cruise but they are both adults, accomplished and protected financially by good teams so God bless.

Oh sweet jay-sus. This shot is from two weeks ago – what is that on her third finger? Guess they decided to skip ahead just to spice things up?

This has got to be a faux romance for mutual publicity. This woman cannot be this stupid to think this ‘relationship’ has a future.

  2. Mia4s says:

Sigh….so when’s the wedding? It’s just…I’ve got a really busy August and beginning of July so maybe late July? Or at least hold the divorce until September. 🙄

The “girl” thing is a tricky one. Depends on context. It shouldn’t be used in a professional setting…ever!! But in a relationship context? As an endearment? Meh, I’ve got bigger concerns. Plus considering JLo’s fondness for dumb relationship stuff (the whole “bear” thing with her last piece?) I’d say we got off easy.

    • AreYouForReal? says:

I hate the word girl for a woman. No woman I know goes around saying “boy” when it refers to her significant other.

      • lizzie says:

i agree. she’s a woman – a powerful, rich, well respected one. she is not a girl. lets not pretend that hyper masculine A-rod who wants his “girls” to feed him popcorn and roid up to look like body builders and get breast implants for him isn’t knocking her down a peg by calling her a girl. i hate this pairing.

      • Ange says:

But you know JLo would love it, she loves being the coquettish girl swept away by romance ad nauseum. He might just be playing right into what she wants.

  3. Spunk says:

All this commotion will be over in 4,3,2….

  4. Donna says:

They’ll marry within 6 months. Then comes the endless barrage of how-much-we’re-in-love stories, and separated within 18 months. She’s so much more smug in the pics of them together than she was with Smart. It’s inevitable.

  5. smee says:

    A 47 year old girl.

I too call bs on this “relationship”. They went on two dates, told everyone and fell in love. Could happen, but seems a little contrived.

“This relationship comes with more baggage than a socialite on a cruise” 🙂

  6. Skins says:

Say what you want about J-Lo, but she is always working, and that’s what this is, work. You know, this might be the best work she has done for years, constant coverage on TMZ and the like. The Drake fiasco was just too transparent, but this one isn’t as bad so she can make some good mileage off of it. Good Work J-Lo!

  7. bacondonut says:

it’s all that la mér that keeps her oh so girlish

  8. Mmm says:

Neither one of them can be alone for more than a week. Pathetic.

  9. Stella says:

I admire her hustle but not her taste in men.

  10. Who ARE These People? says:

The picture at the ball game is funny — Marc Anthony looks like their morose teenager acting out being dragged to the Yankee game by wearing a Mets jersey.

  11. ERICKA123 says:

I think they are perfect for each other and make a great couple. They are both good looking Latinos who always need to have someone by their side, both of them millionaires, famous and It looks like they are just having fun, nothing serious will come out of this relationship. I think Alex Rodriguez (big time womanizer!) is a better fit for J.LO than Marc Anthony, enjoy it while it last Jenny!

  12. Twink says:

I love her hair/extensions. She has the best in the biz.

  13. Pandy says:

I refer to myself and my friends as girls, so I’m not upset over that (I’m in my 50s). I think this relationship makes sense weirdly enough. They are both douches imho, so a good match.

  14. Nikki says:

He’s a great boy. Ugh: women are not girls.

  15. Sage says:

J-Lo’s taste in men has always been odd. Hopefully she doesn’t put too much emotion into him, cause this will not end well.

  16. PettyRiperton says:

They’re perfect for each other. He’s Latin, he has his own money, he’s ok with doing the pap stroll with her and since Jennifer doesn’t seem like she wants to be married again which I doubt he would want to as well they work. She got someone around her own age which shocked me since she’s been into boy toys lately. On paper they actually make a lot of sense but who knows how long they will be together. The use of girl doesn’t upset me.
