Now that I live in Colorado, I can appreciate the “live coast-to-cast” gimmick! Kind of excited that it’s actually going to be live for us over here too.

(After moving here from the East coast, I really thought all my programming would stay about the same… or at least that I’d stop seeing commercials with the “9/8 central” tag, and start seeing commercials that reflected Pacific and Mountain time. I didn’t realize I’d have to subtract 2 from every showtime from now on. The world really does revolve around NYC!)

  2. Hecate says:

*side-eyes Kaiser * Harry is MY inappropriate boy band crush! And that song is shockingly good.

    • Kaiser says:

The song IS shockingly good! It’s a ripoff of Pink Floyd, but still.

      • Ripley says:

I keep hearing David Bowie when they play it here in Qatar… which, pleasantly, is quite often.

    • WeAreAllMadeofStars says:

Yeah, if it were by (fill in the blank authentic hipster band) everyone would admit to loving it up front. It’s really good, especially if you can block out that it’s him.

      • SM says:

I never had any experience of one direction. I just learned about that since I enjoyed this song. So, lucky me, i can just enjoy it without any baggage of prior knowledge about who this guy is. Now I realise it sounds like I come from another planed.

      • SM says:

I never had any experience of one direction. I just learned about them since I enjoyed this song. I am not sure I am hearing Bowie here (that was got me interested in this song, the guardian droped bowie’s name when discussing this song) but it does have a strange feeling of being from the last century). So, lucky me, i can just enjoy it without any baggage of prior knowledge about who this guy is. Now I realise it sounds like I come from another planet.

But there’s nothing wrong with Harry Styles…? He’s a good dude who does good things, watch this video and I think you’ll change your mind about him https://youtu.be/yD4-9nLbu-Y

      • WeAreAllMadeofStars says:

I don’t have anything against the guy, I’m just saying that the transition from Boy band boy scout to dude singing about the bitter and melancholic realities of young adult life can be a bit jarring. I have never heard anything about him or his behavior that would lead me to believe he’s anything but a nice and studious guy.

  3. Hmm says:

Really? I found the song awful. And too long.
For a moment i thought tyga was arrested for being a creepo. Sad.

    • Skylark says:

      You’re not alone.

The idea that this Harry Styles derivative tripe is being promoted as innovative or good music is seriously depressing.

Does America really not have a ‘Later with Jools Holland equivalent’ to school them and guide them towards what good music looks like?

      • Tiffany :) says:

I looooooove Later with Jools! I have had spotty access to it depending on my cable provider.

      • WeAreAllMadeofStars says:

Dude, he’s English. Why half the people on this blog love to blame America for everything is beyond me. Next week Theresa May and fried fish will be all our fault.

    • Hannah says:

I totally agree. The hype is so over the top, its the whole repackaging of boybander to please take me serious I am an adult artist thats so transparent.
Personally I found the song pleasant but ultimately underwhelming and forgettable.
And i can’t with music that sounds like pastiche of some old tune.. There is nothing original about copying old school artists. His record company keep trying to comparing him to these old school innovators but if they were young today they wouldn’t be copying music from 40 years ago. They would be making innovative original music.

  4. OhDear says:

Gah, why does he look like Mark Walhberg in the last photo?!

  5. Lucy says:

    So am I!! Zayn Who??

  6. QQ says:

Resident Zayn Stan here says : It’s aight but I don’t see this putting him over my Boy in Musical presence terms?

    • burnsie says:

I’m a lowkey Zayn stan too, but his solo music has been underwhelming. This Harry song is killin it though, reminds me of David Bowie/Space Oddity

    • Mika says:

I second this. I loved Mind of Mine and I’m ready for album #2, apparently for this summer? I’m not into Harry’s single but I wasn’t into Pillowtalk either at the start, so you never know.

  7. Onemoretime says:

Nothing about the passing of Charlie Murphy? Rest in Power Eddies older brother you were funny/hilarious and will be missed!

    • Moneypenny says:

I was sad not to see it mentioned here too. Not even a link on this page?

    • QQ says:

He was one of the greatest storytellers and Comedians and truly one of the best comedic sketches ever, period… is also doubly sad as his children lost their mom ( Charlie’s wife) to Cancer as well

      • Onemoretime says:

Yes I feel so devastated for his children. Both parents lost to cancer. So very tragic.

    • Ange says:

Yes! So sad. He came out here for one show only in Melbourne I think and I was tossing up whether to spend the money, wish I had now. I didn’t know he was sick but then saw stills from that powerless show he was in and yeah, he was not a well man 😔 RIP Charlie.

  8. Narak says:

I didn’t have my glasses on and thought he was Thor.

  9. Originaltessa says:

It’s a beautiful song, but I feel like the chorus is a little weak. It needs a more soaring climax for such a build up. After the first three minutes, you’re waiting for something to happen and it never does.

  10. Jess says:

He looks like River Phoenix here, creepy!

  11. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Jeff Varner of Survivor really is a snot.

    • detritus says:

well sh*t. Just ruined last nights survivor for myself.
Varner is so close to being decent, and then he just goes and jackasses over everything. Like I keep seeing a twinkle of likeability, then boom.

  12. Norman Bates' Mother says:

I’m surprised by the sound of his voice. I expected him to have a typical boy-bandish voice like Malik, but he sounds pretty good and mature – he could pull off a good rock song. I’m glad you recommended this song – not my favorite, but stil pretty nice. To be honest – otherwise I wouldn’t click out of sheer prejudce.

    • Jayna says:

I agree. I love the tone of his voice, good range. I thought it was a good song.

    • Jess says:

Really? I don’t think you are familiar with 1D. Malik is influenced by R and B and hip hop.Its well documented that he wasn’t allowed to do his style of singing in 1D. He hated the music and eventually left to work with frank oceans producer. Harry was the one had the most influence over the music in that boyband and at the end they literally did Dad Rock- light, pretty much the direction he’s going in now.

  13. wow says:

    He sounds like Robbie Williams.

    • antipodean says:

I totally agree with you @wow, he is definitely Robbie-lite, with none of the talent! It’s all been done before, and better! Another meaningless ear-worm from a would be if could be. Manufactured tripe.

  14. Tiffany says:

So, Lorne thought that it was a good idea to give a live coast to coast episode of SNL to Jimmy ‘I cannot keep my laughter or liquor in check’ Fallon. Okay then.

  15. Mia says:

No offence but this song is boring, repetetive, derivative and forgettable. The lyrics sounds like something out of a middle schoolers diary, cringe.
He’s just another example of how white male mediocrisy is celebrated on the Internet, kendrick Lamar isn’t getting half as much attention for his new music.

  16. YepIsaidit says:

The song is boring but I do wonder if he can actually pull off the vocals live.

there is so much hype around that guy and his music is mediocre at best… He has an excellent pr team.
