Did Harry Styles write some blind-item songs about Taylor Swift?

HARRY.STYLES //12.MAY.17//

A post shared by @harrystyles on

In the links yesterday, I declared that I AM HERE for Harry Styles. Right now, I’m here for him. I’ll probably be over him in a month or two, once I hear the other music from his new solo self-titled album. But I actually love his first single (“Sign of the Times”), which I think sounds like a rip-off of Pink Floyd. Some of you have said it sounds like a ripoff of David Bowie, which I can understand. The truth is… he might as well copy from the best and as long as no one is getting sued, have at it.

Anyway, as you can see on the above Instagram, Harry has been posting stuff about the album on his social media. He posted the track list yesterday and… really read through the song titles. People think that Styles is doing some kind of confessional album about his exes. One of his exes? Taylor Swift, who OWNS the blind-item song thing. So it’s a little bit funny (right?) that old-school Haylor (Harry + Taylor) fans are losing their minds over the song names.

Personally, I hope that Harry did write at least one not-so-blind-item song about Taylor Swift. I always believed – and no one can convince me otherwise – that Harry dumped Taylor during one of her melodramatic outbreaks while they were on a New Year’s Eve holiday. No one can convince me otherwise that Taylor followed Harry around for months, trying to get back together with him and he wasn’t interested. I hope his blind-item songs reveal ALL!

He could prove me wrong, but I find it annoying that the words “New York” are the reason fans/media think it’s about Taylor. She doesn’t own that city, no matter how hard she tries to trademark it. They dated five years ago. If it is about her, I’m only interested it gives me juicy gossip.

  2. Nicole says:

Well if she can dish it she can take it. *grabs popcorn*

  3. TheOtherOne says:

I’m with you, Kaiser. I’m so here for Harry Styles. And I hope the song is about her. It’s about time. Is she going to label every one anti feminist again if we don’t love her and only say nice things about her? I’m a feminist and I’ve been sh*t talking her and her brand for years.

  4. RussianBlueCat says:

The best blind item song was Carly Simon’s “You’re so vain” and had people guessing(maybe still guessing) for decades. Taylor Swift, Harry Styles etc. can only hope their songs will have that type of longevity

    • Lightpurple says:

Carly is the Queen of Blind Item Songs. “You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you.” Many of her songs are about guys she was involved with. A good number of them were about Jessie Winchester and she explains them at length in concert.

    • bluhare says:

She’s got another one too. Legend in Your Own Time. Always loved that song. Some think it’s about Cat Stevens and others think it is more generic. I should go look and see if she ever explained it.

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

She has admitted that it was based on several men, one of them was Warren Beatty (she confirmed this is her autobiography). She won’t reveal who the other men are. I think each of the verses relate to a different man.

      • outoftheshadows says:

I think actually part of that song is about David Geffen. He owned the label she was on but Joni Mitchell got possessive and he dropped the other women, according to something I read.

      • TrustMOnThis says:

cool story, yo. except Geffen, uh, bats for the opposite team

  5. grabbyhands says:

    I hope he does too.

I mean, if it is dangled out there she’ll take the bait because she is one of the queens of making everything about her. The downside is of course, that it just gives her more victim ammunition and whining about what guys can get away with. She’s made her career off writing “poor me, done me wrong” song about literally every single high profile guy she’s dated, but no one is allowed to defend themselves or say anything negative about her in reply.

It will be funny to see her own tactic thrown back in her face if this is true.

  6. Aims says:

I hop so to. Why is she a precious snowflake ? She can dish it out, but she can’t take it .

  7. Jeesie says:

I mean, I’d really love for her to keep getting a taste of her own medicine, but New York is basically a fixture in song titles, right up their with Paris, and given Taylor’s New York song was one of the few songs not about Styles on 1989 I doubt he’d choose that one to reference.

  8. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

As much as I’d like her to get a taste of her own medicine it’s highly unlikely. Styles seems to have moved on with his life. If he was as classy as she is he would have done a Calvin Whatsisface long ago.

  9. Tiffany says:

Is this where I am suppose to say Harry should take the high road. Well, I am not. Go get her Harry. I am looking forward to this release.

    • teacakes says:

Yeah, how many years (and albums) did she milk their five minutes for?

And if the claim that they dated for “months” in secret in 2012 is true, he was 18 or not yet 18 at the time – so at 19 she could write songs whining about how SHE was “too young” but turns around and dishes the blind item song to an 18 year old?

  10. Sarah says:

Harry and Taylor were strictly PR. She milked that brief time period for all of the 1989 promo as well as songs that had nothing to do with him (“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” was written before she met him but she did her coy blind-item bs to lead people to think it was about him).

I doubt Harry’s New York song has any reference to do with her, but the way his solo marketing has been going, I wouldn’t be surprised if they let the speculation build.

  11. Sam says:

Whether it’s about Taylor or not, his PR team is going to let the speculation go on. He needs all the attention he can get at this point considering how poorly his first single is doing. His lead single has already tumbled down the charts despite just being released. Shame.

    • Nancy says:

That is a complete lie. His lead single is doing just fine. He will debut in the us in the top ten, possibly top five and gaining air play on the radio. He will debut in the U.K. At number one. How is his pr going to milk this, when the only people who came up with this idea are 1d/Taylor fans. All Harry did was release a track listing.

      • Sarah says:

His single dropped to iTunes #115 this morning. One week after it debuted. That’s not great, considering how much Sony has riding on it. Maybe if he was engaging with fans on social media, it would do better. And I’m a 1D fan! Just disillusioned with his marketing and how this solo Harry was rolled out.

      • Sam says:

@Nancy umm his single is already outside of the top 100 on it iTunes and it was just released. Sure it’s getting airplay but that’s because the studio pays for the songs to get airplay in hopes of getting folks to buy/stream the song which folks aren’t doing. You can twist it anyway you want but thus far folks don’t care about solo Harry Styles.

    • Jeesie says:

His single’s still in the iTunes top 10 in my country.

    • Exxie says:

Thats because they removed the singles version and add the album version in the us itunes, its already at 44 now, he just became no.1 in the uk and most likely he will be in top 3.

    • Scout says:

So he’s just going to use Taylor’s M.O. of letting blind items/insinuations hang in a shameless ploy to drum up publicity? Keep checking those charts for Harry Styles, sis. Sad!

  12. Lucy says:

Oh, boy. I’m here for Harry too!!

  13. SM says:

Oh. Now I know where I heard about Harry Styles before hearing his solo. He was the one Taylor was milking for fame (just like any other boyfriend she ever had). As much as it would be satisfying to hear her ex call on her bs I hope the song is not about her and that he will say that upfront at some point in the future. Because I hate that teenage self-victimising, fake faminist Swifty and everything she stands for. The best for her would be to realize that all her ex boyfriends moved om and their life are not evolving around her anymore. That would be the greatest thing anyone can teach her. She is stuck in her teenage drama and her revange plans, it would really be the best of she realized other teenagers she used to date actually do grow up and drop the silly competition act.

    • wow says:

She is more famous than any of her boyfriends, including this guy. So how is she milking them for fame?

      • SM says:

How about by writing songs about all her boyfriends. I am sure there is an album in the works about Tommy. By parading her boyfriends like nice accessories. By portraing her self as a victim and a snowflake who was dumped. She wants to appear like an independant woman and a feminist and really would she be as famous if she did not pass her teenage love diaries as pop songs to teenage girls and provoked some kind of high school drama? Milking something does not mean that the person she is has to be mpre famous than her. It’s how she uses the people around her to feed her image and her career. I am sorry but whoever runs and shouts about their breakups fromthe rooftops is a famewhore

      • mar_time says:

She got famous by writing songs about her more famous ex-boyfriends…joe Jonas, john Mayer, harry styles, Taylor lautner…it doesn’t matter that she’s more famous than most now, she wasn’t at the time

      • Scout says:

Taylor has more fame/success but she remains relevant because of her relationships with these ~lessers. There’s a reason why she always seems to date dudes with rabid fan bases. Well, except for the Kennedy child, but he was still in high school while Taylor was a grown adult.

      • wow says:

Taylor Swift has sold over 33 million albums. It’s gross to attribute her success as a musician to the men she has dated. She is popular because people enjoy her music and buy her music, not because she once dated that guy from Twilight. Songwriters use their relationships for inspiration. They always have and they always will.

  14. SaraInAToga says:

Well look up “Perfect” by former band One Direction, that was already a Switfy not-so-blind item song!

And another song is “Carolina”… one of his first rumored gfs was UK TV presenter Caroline Flack.

I so hope we’re getting a blind item album! I live for the drama!!!

    • Millie says:

I remember watching him and Caroline Flack on the x factor after show. That interview was very…let us just say I felt like I was intruding on a very private moment. It was so awkward for me. I can’t imagine how it was for his band mates and the other host Olly Murs.

  15. QQ says:

Meh! Twas good for the Gander So im assuming it’ll be quite alright for the goose *shrugs on shrugs* (I Like this Fella’s aesthetic … very Of the Moment ( Millennial pink/baby blue softness)

  16. detritus says:

    The song was… underwhelming.
It’s fine, but it’s Floyd gone acoustic, or Bowie without the soul.

I still will inappropriately stan for Harry though, look at that grin

  17. Moll says:

I went thru a phase of fangirling for harry about 2 years ago and while i think he is harmless for the most part, his interviews are such a boner killer. He is just not very bright at all. I think his fans like to pretend he is really deep and intellectual the truth is he really has nothing interesting to say. His fans are also batshit crazy … can’t be bothered following him with those ball aches saying he is the second coming. The song is average imo.

  18. Marianne says:

*Gasp* What if Harry’s trying to tell us he’s a Sinatra Fan (New York, New York). Maybe Taylor Swift was writing about Billy Joel (New York State of Mind). I mean c’mon guys. New York is a popular f****** city and having 2 singers that used to date both have New York in their titles means absolutely nothing.

I have no doubt that Harry probably did write something, do you think all the One Direction songs were just completely random and didn’t stem from some truth? Besides, its very common for singers/bands to write about past relationships. This isn’t some shocking revelation.

  19. Katherine says:

Sign Of The Times is instant classic, love it so much, probably won’t like anything else from him, but we’ll see, I like being surprised. Hope he didn’t write a song about Taylor S though, ugh. Also, I somehow feel that ‘Carolina’ is about me, although we’ve never met and my name is not Carolina, lol

  20. Snackers says:

The New York song could be about meeting louis in new York when they are in the US. Your know they do have apartment there.

  21. V.B. says:

No. He didn’t. Stay in your lane.

  22. Shannon says:

Is it just me, or does everyone kind of overthink Taylor Swift and her songs? Maybe they are blind item, but so what? I think all artists write about their relationships. I listen to a few of her songs, and nothing every stuck out to me as particularly different from any other artist’s music as far as calling anyone out. But I don’t pay a ton of attention, so maybe I’m missing something lol. *shrug* I don’t have a problem with her.

  23. Tanakasan says:

    Who is he?

  24. Erica_V says:

So he can write blind item songs and it’s awesome but she writes blind item songs and it’s lame & try hard – gotcha.

But for real his new song is soooo good. I heard it and was really surprised it was by him.
