Carmelo Anthony made LaLa sign a harsh prenup when they got married

New York premiere of 'Chi-Raq'

This Carmelo Anthony situation is not great. A few days ago, Carmelo and LaLa Anthony basically confirmed that they have been separated for months. And by “basically confirmed,” I mean that they haven’t confirmed anything officially but they’re not formally denying anything either, and both “sides” have been talking off-the-record to media outlets. Everyone sort of agrees that Carmelo cheated on LaLa constantly, although his side claims that he did not get a gentleman’s club dancer pregnant. The last we heard, LaLa was waiting to see what Carmelo would do or say next and that sure, divorce was on the table but who knows? Now TMZ is talking about their prenup.

When, not if, Carmelo or La La Anthony pull the divorce trigger, there will be a road map on how they will divide their $200 plus million fortune. Sources connected to the couple tell us they signed a prenup before getting hitched in 2010. We’re told the prenup benefits Carmelo way more than La La, and for obvious reasons. He in the middle of a $124 million contract with the Knicks and has earned north of $200 in his career. elo has a lot more in the money dept. He’s been a top brand ambassador to the Jordan brand and Foot Locker.

As for La La … she was making money as an MTV VJ when they met and has continued to work through the marriage as an actress, model and producer, but obviously she’s made way less than him. All that said, prenups are not necessarily airtight and are frequently challenged by the person who ends up with the short end of the stick. These challenges almost always result in a settlement where the person with the money antes up more than required under the written agreement.

One other thing. Some prenups actually include “cheating clauses,” which entitle the non-cheating party to more money if the spouse strayed. As we reported, a woman claims she’s pregnant with Melo’s kid. We don’t know if this clause is included in their prenup.

Yeah… from the way LaLa has handled everything thus far, I don’t think money is her biggest concern. Like, she definitely cares about the money (who wouldn’t?), but it’s not her top concern. I think that if and when they file, Carmelo will probably give her a tidy settlement and then pay child support and hopefully there will be little drama on that front.

Money money money money moneyyyyyy…..She better get a nice little share and extra for their child in a trust fund, I can see him going bankrupt very very soon

Made??? Please stop with the titles that suggest she was forced to sign. She wanted the title of the OFFICIAL woman despite knowing this dude was never gonna be faithful except to his desires. She knew what was up and if she got screwed in the doc then she should not signed or got a better attorney.

Wow, are you the pregnant lady?

    • Honeybadger says:

YES!! It’s called free will. She could have chosen not to marry him if the prenup was offensive. She chose to sign and chose to marry him.

    • Susan says:

Exactly, Carmelo *asked* her to sign a prenup and she evaluated her options and clearly decided to sign it. She could have remained unmarried and in a relationship with him no doubt.

Since we criticize women’s bodies all the time – is it me or does Carmelo have a little gut for a top athlete?
As for the rest of it, I couldn’t care less.

Stuff gets re-negotiated all the time. I see no problem with her getting more than she signed for in the pre-nup. I hope she will. To me, Trump getting “so-called” elected to the presidency is a bigger travesty and injustice than Carmelo emptying out his bank account for La La. Big, frigging deal. I also think La La or Carmelo would make a better president than Trump. I’d vote for either of them today. Seriously.

It’s interesting how people who have never been involved in prenup discussions always say, “Oh she shouldn’t have signed it or her attorney should have fought harder.” Unfortunately this isn’t always realistic. Having experienced a prenuptial negotiation myself that didn’t go 100% the way I wanted it to I can say it’s far more nuanced than that. In my negotiations it got to the point where my fiancee and I were angry at each other over it and our families were getting involved. All this fighting was caused by negotiations for how much money I would get if we were to get divorced before we even got married. In the end I said F**k it…I’m not marrying him for money so why am I fighting for it now? If we end up divorced I guarantee I won’t be thrilled about it but I did what I thought was right at the time.
