Remember a few weeks ago, when an Arizona teenager made an elaborate, La La Land-themed “promposal” video to attempt to entice Oscar winning actress Emma Stone to be his date? The video that sent Jimmy Kimmel off on a rant against kids asking celebrities to prom? Well said teenager, Jacob Staudenmaier, did manage to get a prom date – who probably doesn’t have any IMDb credits. Jacob attended the annual rite of high school passage this past weekend.
Emma Stone may have politely declined the invitation, but she didn’t forget about Jacob. Prior to his big night, she sent Jacob a wrist corsage and boutonniere. Phoenix NBC affiliate 12 News posted a photo of the thoughtful gift on its Twitter feed. Along with the flowers, Emma sent a handwritten note that read, “Jacob, a little something for you and your lucky date tomorrow. Have a great time! Much love.” This proves that Emma Stone is just as awesome as I thought she was.

Jacob posted a photo wearing the blooms with his prom date on Instagram. In the “caption” of the photo, which was embedded in a YouTube video, Jacob said, “I suck at captions but prom was fun except for when our bus driver break checked us and we went flying.” Captions in YouTube videos? Ugh. I agreed with the random IG commenter who said, “That was the most effort I ever put into reading a caption.” You’re not completely wrong about your caption skills, Jacob. Two things I got from the photo: 1. Jacob’s prom date is lovely. If you can’t get Emma Stone, he certainly got the next best thing. 2. He doesn’t really look like Ryan Gosling as previously assumed. It’s a cute picture though.
Yeah, yeah, that’s sweet and all, but you won’t see anything sweeter today than the photo of this abandoned baby otter that I found on 12 News’ Twitter feed. You’re welcome.

This was extremely sweet of her, but I really like that people finally began calling on young people to stop this crap. Celebrities don’t owe you a date to your event. Putting them on the spot and trying to guilt them into it is gross.
