Katy Perry is in talks to join the American Idol judging panel

The judge’s table for the reboot of American Idol has been looking a little barren. Simon Cowell has stated he won’t be back on Idol to crush dreams and OG idol Kelly Clarkson, as well as Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, will be lending their talents to The Voice.

American Idol, which ran for 15 seasons on Fox and will be on ABC this fall, is looking for some new blood, with Katy Perry allegedly in talks to join the show. According to TMZ, ABC considering arranging the show’s filming schedule to accommodate the 32-year-old singer’s tour dates. This sounds like a sweet deal, it seems all that’s left to discuss is the matter of pay. ABC might want to meet the singer’s demands, as Kelly reportedly went over the The Voice after salary negotiations over at Idol fell through. As for Simon, he was asked, but cited his obligation to America’s Got Talent as one of the reasons he said no. He did, tellingly, confess to the TODAY Show, “When I really, really thought about it, it was kind of like, ‘How can you go back again?'”

The ratings for the last season of Idol were down over previous seasons and Katy could probably give the show a much-needed shot in the arm. There’s been no word yet as to whether the other season 15 judges – Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. – are coming back. However, Ryan Seacrest miraculously has enough hours in his day to return to his hosting duties. (Although, if he feels a bit overwhelmed, he can feel free to cancel that show he produces, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, to free up some time.) ABC hopes to make the deal with Katy final prior to upfronts and this week is allegedly hoping to launch the revamped Idol after the Academy Awards ceremony on March 4, 2018.

Katy already has Idol experience on her resume. She filled in for Paula Abdul for a few episodes of season 9. She’s also managed by the same group that manages the career of Idol alum Adam Lambert. According to Variety, industry insiders say that show’s producers are courting the managers of “a handful of superstar music acts.” I believe the judges table isn’t going to be big enough for two musical divas like J-Lo and Katy, so I’m curious as to who might take her place. I think Adam Lambert would be a good addition. Of course, I’m not sure if America has been chomping at the bit for a reboot of Idol. I sure wasn’t.

I actually think Katy would be a good judge on a show like this (although the American Idol ship sailed LONG ago…) – she has banter and is pretty smart. I just hope she can keep her foot out of her mouth and avoid making stupid/offensive comments like she has dome in the past.

As I’ve said before, she earned my respect putting her money where her mouth was before/after the elections…but boy she has a penchant for saying stupid shit.

      ” and is pretty smart”

You lost me there lol. She really isn’t that bright. She’s learned some buzz phrases recently, but there’s a giant disconnect in this woman’s brain.

“All these songs are very personal, they’re straight out of a “dear diary” situation…[but] my Anne Frank is now being exposed to the world”

“I guess I happen to be attracted to high-frequency men.”

“Oh my God, when [the show] talks about the sky people , how everyone comes from the sky and how the Pyramids were used for star observations, it’s too much for me. It all seems to connect the dots. It’s blowing my mind.”

Hopefully she’s at least smart career-wise, but her recent stuff really hasn’t been great. Then again, it’s American Idol – so it’s not really like these kids have a chance of going all that far. The contracts they got locked into with AI are enough to really stifle them when they’re at the top of their fame, and by the time they’re free to do whatever, they aren’t a hot commodity anymore.

If i had to choose though, for me as a fan of Adam Lambert, i would prefer for him to do even more touring around the World, than doing Idol.
But if would do Idol, i would of course watch it.

I don’t really care about Idol, I just came here to say that I don’t understand that yellow outfit

I didn’t even bother reading the article I just wanted to say Perry looks like that big chicken guy in that old cartoon who’d always say ‘Bor, I say Bor!” ha ha.

No but seriously…what’s going on with her style? She looks ridiculous in that yellow thing.

Considering how quickly Kelly signed with The Voice I doubt she was negotiating with Idol. I think they were used for negotiating with the Voice. I don’t think Idol will be a hit. It still had really good ratings when it went off the air but I don’t think people will go back.

I’m glad Idol is coming back. I like the fact that Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson will be on the Voice, but I’m surprised Kelly chose The Voice over American Idol. Maybe American Idol wasn’t something she was even considering though.

      • WeAreAllMadeofStars says:

She had a massive falling out with the Idol producers and changed her record label, no? Perhaps it’s animosity from all the way back.

That hair kind of ages her…

No surprise, talent shows are where all artists go when their career is in downward spiral.
