Prince Harry broke the Ramadan fast with an iftar meal in Singapore

You might have missed it, but Prince Harry was actually in Singapore for a two-day visit this weekend. He had a full schedule, and it honestly seemed like there was little to no coverage of his trip in the British media. To be fair, the media was focused on the London terror attack and the Manchester concert (as they should be). But if this was the Duchess of Cambridge on a two-day trip, there would have been wall-to-wall coverage.

Harry did some great work in Singapore – he met with Muslim leaders, met with kids and volunteers at a youth welfare program, visited a mobile, rapid-HIV testing unit, and took part in an iftar meal after sunset during Ramadan (we’re currently in the month of Ramadan). Oh, and he played polo and raised money for Sentable! He did all of that in a two-day trip. Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge’s wiglet just fetched some smelling salts at the thought of a 40-minute trip to one of her charities.

I love the photos of Harry doing the iftar meal. It looks like the woman was trying to explain what dates are and how to eat them. Harry is so good when he travels.

He’s got such a nice, natural, down to earth way with people-definitely like his mother.

Honestly I’m glad that he did the work but didn’t force the coverage. With all that is going on in England, I want to scream as Carole with an E is pushing Pippa’s honeymoon. It’s like there are real world events going on – an upcoming election, terrorist acts to name a few – and we have to still deal with these two idiots. Ughh. But congrats to Harry. And as an American, those Middletons are really starting to irk the ish out of me. I’m sorry for those of you who have endured them longer than I have.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Good point. It’s like the people who on Facebook since the US election who push happy stories aggressively, “look how normal, life goes on life goes on!” Well, for them it might.

Seriously? As an Canadian the president you elected irks the hell out of me. I can watch the news and not read anything Middleton because its mostly click bate and can be ignored however your president is all over the news and its impossible to not see him spew. You dont have to deal with Pippa at all! Trump affects us all whether we want him to or not.

I think she’s telling him about more than what they are about to taste…his power is in his going about his business without the dog and pony show that is the Cambridges

Singaporean here, not sure if this was front page coverage because I only read the online news, but his visit was reported without too much fanfare. I did not even realise he was coming. Overall, well received.

I love dates. I always know it’s Ramadan when our grocery store has them to sale. I buy lots! Honking for Harry. He is truly one of the best embassadors the U.K. has.

Happy Ramadan everyone (although I think the proper greeting is “Ramadan Mubarak”). Hopefully someone will correct me if I got that wrong.

    • Jessica says:

Ramadan Mubarak is the traditional end of Ramadan greeting. Ramadan Kareem is the beginning greeting. 😉
Not Muslim myself, but my sister-in-law and extended family is, so sorry if I got that wrong too.

Harry has done a few solo trips that don’t generate huge amount of publicity, but this one was short, and occurred during a time when the public was distracted, rightly so, by more serious issues.
