Lena Dunham got more big tattoos: ‘it gives me a sense of control’

Lena Dunham has increased her artistic expression three-fold. Back in February, Lena mentioned in her Vogue 73 Questions the significance to each of her nine tattoos. Since then she has added three more fairly sizable bits of ink that she showed off on her Instagram Stories. The first in an underboob tattoo that she referred to as a “t-t chandelier” and admitted was inspired by Rihanna. Although I love the tattoo itself and without trying to sound too much like a jerk, I’ll just say that IMO, you need Rhianna’s attitude to work a t-t chandelier. More recently, Lena’s added a hip full of Kewpie dolls while her right, upper thigh was adorned by a very large rose (photos below). All of the tattoos are black ink, no color and the work is nice, even if they wouldn’t be my first choice of art. But it’s the reason she got the art that I appreciate. Lena, who suffers terribly from endometriosis, said that getting the tattoos gives her a “sense of control.”

Lena Dunham has added to her tattoo collection, revealing two new designs on her Instagram Stories on Friday.

“Been tatting myself up like crazy this month,” the Girls co-creator and star, 31, captioned the first photo of her upper thigh, which revealed two designs: a blooming rose and Kewpie dolls, baby cupid characters that appeared in comic strips in the early 20th century.

Her next image zoomed in on the Kewpies, which surround a bucket, one doll appearing to tote a pail labelled “tears.” She wrote that the tattoo has been on her for “a few weeks.”

“I think it gives me a sense of control and ownership of a body that’s often beyond my control,” she captioned her third photo, which provided a close up of the rose. The comment was likely a reference to the star’s painful and ongoing battle with endometriosis.

Kaiser posted on Lena’s new drastic haircut the other day. As has been mentioned here a few times, women are cutting their hair and it seems to be indicative of the political climate more than just a fashion trend. I think a lot of people are looking to feel in control right now because so much seems beyond our control. If you add this to Lena’s on-going health struggles, as I said, I really appreciate what she’s saying. I know I’m not Lena’s biggest fan but I do feel bad for what she goes through health wise – nobody should have to live in pain. And I fully support anyone’s efforts to feel in control of their lives or bodies. I use fashion to this end. I have plenty of outfits I use as armor. So I give all her work, including her refreshed Eloise “tramp stamp” (her words) two big thumbs up.

Lena’s has been showing off her new art in various photos that I can’t include because of our advertisers. I don’t have any problem with Lena’s love of posting nudes and showing off her body. In fact, I love her body confidence, it’s something that endears me to her. She recently posted a nude with strategically placed decals to Instagram that she captioned:

Just wanted to share that one of the reasons @eatingboys has inspired me so much is because of the way she mixes her humor and sexuality. I spent so many years loving my body but thinking it wasn’t lovable by others- its sole purpose was to be fodder for jokes. I performed the insult so no one else could. I don’t regret any of it- that’s my art and that was my truth- but now, at age 31, having been through hell and back with my health and other people’s perceptions of my physicality, I feel deeply comfortable with the idea that this pear-shaped pot of honey is equally good for making people laugh and laying out like a Suicide Girl circa 2004. Love it all.

And therein lies my issue with Lena. I really like what’s she saying and want to double fist pump the idea behind this. But she always speaks with a “come at me” tone. I wish her body positivity messages didn’t accuse me of harassment before I open my mouth.

I can’t stand the expression on her face when she takes these “sexy” pics.

I do really like those striped pants in the top pic. They would look awful on me but I think I love them

  2. Andrea Benson says:

Love her hair like that. She looks good.

It’s a very Lena Dunham haircut. I mean that in a good way. It suits her persona.

And I love her curtain tassel earrings in the last pic.

Love her hair, too. I want her curtains. And I can identify with the need to have some control over a body out of control.

Nope. Everything about her is annoying and needy.
We get it Lena… you got a haircut! Good lord, how many posts does she need to make about the damn haircut?

And she’s beyond a point where I want to listen to anything she has to say about bodies, feminism, politics, self exploration etc. It’s all just too annoying.
